I'm still not well so this isn't going to be articulate, but I wanted to say something anyway.
In the wake of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies (amongst other titles) being purged from streaming I've seen countless posts saying "This is terrible, we need to stop this practice -- they might purge a good show next!" and yeah, for sure a lot of titles being impacted by streaming purges/lack of physical media/a decline in archiving right now aren't going to be remembered for changing the world.
However, I think it is vital that we fight to preserve these titles for their own sake not just because "What if next time it's something we actually like?!" There is value is preserving things widely regarded as "bad" not just because I have firm beliefs about the absurdity of taste, but because who gives a shit if something is deemed "good?" Actual human people put their time and energy into realising these artistic visions. Even if the results are arguably not "good" or "popular", should the efforts of these artists be lost to the sands of time? No, no they fucking shouldn't.
I share a lot of art on this blog from titles very few people consider culturally important or valuabe. However, I don't look at the things I collect & share like that. Even some of the most objectively absurd titles I own are still pieces of art that were developed, published, and consumed by humans in the real world. Whether they've turned out to be broadly memorable or not is irrelevant because they existed and that in itself makes them worthy of preservation so that others can choose to familiarise themselves with them long after the original creative team is gone.
So yes, we should all be trying to preserve the media that's important to us and not let corporations try to stamp out every trace of a financial (though not necessarily artistic) misstep. However, it shouldn't take the threat of something we, personally, like being taken away to stir us into giving a shit.
Even the demise of less admired works should concern us and make us start to burn copies of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies because it might not mean anything to you or I right now, but to some kid in 20 years it could be a seminal experience that leads them to follow their dreams. Or it could become a cult classic that people reflect on at watch parties years in the future. Or it could continue to be a footnote in the history of television that nobody really cares about.
Ultimately I don't think it matters what level of value we arbitrarily assign to media now or in the future, we should be trying to preserve as much of it as possible so that generations from now people can enjoy the option of engaging with these titles should they so wish.

The Fat Controller catches wind that the engines at Tidmouth are refusing to come out, pondering what on earth they could be striking about this time he bods down to the sheds to see what the problem is.
Much his utter disbelief, the engines are in the midst of a fierce battle of monopoly that they refuse to part from, with the engines' crew members rolling the dice and moving the pieces for them. Are the humans more than aware that they'll probably get in trouble for this? Yes of course. But the sight of Gordon having a full on meltdown after landing on income tax for the fourth time while Percy is struggling to figure out what to mortgage next as Edward sits with his abundance of hotels is way worth the disciplinary.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Limbus Company. The humour is extremely blatant, and without a solid grasp of classic literature most of the jokes will go over a typical gamer's head. There's also Vergilius's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Dante's Inferno, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Limbus Company truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Outis' existential catchphrase "The Odyssey had a purpose..." which itself is a cryptic reference to Homer's Greek epic The Odyssey. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Project Moon's genius wit unfolds itself on their phone screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Limbus Company tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

Statement by Director General of the World Intellectual Property (WIPO, Mr Daren Tang.
It is with deep appreciation and respect that the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) joins today in celebrating the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.
This year’s theme is - “Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self-determination”.
Indigenous youth play a vital role in preserving and transmitting the living identity and cultural heritage of their communities. At the same time, by drawing on new ideas and perspectives, Indigenous youth bring a fresh outlook to their communities’ practices and activities, finding new ways of bringing their unique heritage to the world.
WIPO supports Indigenous Peoples to make strategic and effective use of intellectual property in support of their community and tradition-based businesses. This includes through our Training, Mentoring and Matchmaking Program for Indigenous women entrepreneurs (the WEP).
The involvement of young Indigenous women in the WEP is significant: more than 20 percent of beneficiaries were under 30 years old at the time of selection. This includes Wakangay
Santi, a 19-year-old woman from the Indigenous Community Kichshuar Amazanga in Ecuador. Wakangay’s experience of being part of a community enterprise, as well as the practical intellectual property skills that she honed through one of the regional editions of the WEP, is an inspiring example of how by supporting our youth to succeed, we support entire communities to succeed as well.
We also reach out directly to Indigenous young people, including through the WIPO Photography Prize for Indigenous Peoples and Local Community Youth. Last year’s competition attracted more than 250 submissions and raised awareness among young participants on how copyright can protect their creativity. We also organized exhibitions of the 30 shortlisted works, as well as a bespoke training program on photography and copyright. I am pleased to report that this year’s edition, themed How We Wear Our Culture
is How we Tell Our Stories, received close to 300 entries, with our final shortlist to be announced in the autumn.
As part of our Covid-19 response package, at last month’s WIPO Assemblies, we launched “Uchi CreActive” a new intellectual property-related project with the Government of Peru that
will support children from the Awajun Community in Urakua, Peru
As well as supporting Indigenous youth through bespoke and impact-driven projects at the national level, the results of WIPO’s normative work through the Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (the IGC) promise to deliver better outcomes for Indigenous Peoples across the generations and around the world.
We welcome the decision of Member States to renew the IGC’s mandate for the coming biennium, as well as the landmark decision reached last year to convene a Diplomatic Conference on intellectual property, genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge.
A successful outcome at the Diplomatic Conference supported by all Member States will not only demonstrate the power of multilateralism, but also show that the global IP framework is
capable of evolving to be more inclusive. We are working hard to support all Member States on the preparatory work ahead of the Diplomatic Conference next year.
Given the nature of this work, it is important for Indigenous Peoples to participate widely and effectively in these discussions, as well as in the work of the IGC. To help make this a reality, we have created the WIPO Voluntary Fund, which recently attracted further contributions
from Germany, Australia, and Mexico. We warmly welcome these donations and encourage others to follow suit.
On this International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we are proud to reaffirm our commitment to building a balanced and effective intellectual property ecosystem that works for everyone, everywhere. WIPO’s work in support of Indigenous Peoples is an integral part of this mission and we will continue to provide platforms where Indigenous youth can highlight their ideas and the wisdom of their communities in a strategic and respectful manner.
Daren Tang, Director General
World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

Read the Project 2025 manifesto RIGHT NOW
It's MUCH worse than y'all have been hearing
There is so much here you'll have to look at it for yourself, but the climate policy alone is nightmare fuel.
The republican coalition wants to essentially end funding for green energy, dramatically promote and expand fossil fuel industries, and eliminate funding and regulations in all sectors promoting climate change mitigation. Task forces and offices related to clean energy and lowering carbon emissions will be eliminated and replaced with offices for promoting fossil fuels.
They want to LOG NATIONAL FORESTS TO "THIN" THE TREES TO STOP WILDFIRES.
THEY WANT TO FORCE OREGON AND CALIFORNIA TO LOG THEIR NATIONAL FORESTS AND TREAT THEM AS FOR TIMBER PRODUCTION
There are specific provisions in Project 2025 to essentially destroy the Endangered Species Act, causing it to defer to the rights of "economic development" and "private property." The plan includes delisting gray wolves, cutting the budget so that a "triage" system is used to determine which species will get protection, removing funding for research, removing experts and specialists from the decision-making process, and preventing "experimental" populations of animals from being established.
This is so much worse than I expected it to be and there's much more past that: They want to deregulate pesticides and remove much of the EPA's ability to regulate pollutants as well.
Also included in the manifesto is that we should
withdraw from nuclear weapons nonproliferation agreements, build more nuclear weapons, and resume nuclear weapons testing
The manifesto comprehensively outlines the scorched-earth elimination of abortion access, down to ensuring doctors aren't even trained to perform abortions. There are plans in here to disrupt abortion access GLOBALLY, not just domestically.
Not only that, the Republicans plan on reframing family planning programs around "fertility awareness" and "holistic family planning."
I can't even describe it all. I'm trying to give screenshots of the most important things but there's so much.
The foreign policy is a nightmare. They plan to push fossil fuels onto the Global South and promote the development of fossil fuel industry in the "developing world."
It is aggressive and antagonistic towards other nations, strongly pro-military, proposing that we INCREASE (!!!!!) defense spending, improve public opinion of the military and military recruitment, and increase the power to fund new weapons technology.
Just read the Department of Defense section. It's about greatly increasing and strengthening the military-industrial complex, collaborating more closely with weapons manufacturers, removing regulatory barriers to arming our allies and to inventing new military weapons, and recruiting more people into the military. They include provisions to develop AI technology for surveillance. And of course, continuing to support Israel is in there.
Elsewhere it proposes interfering in foreign countries with creepy pro-USA propaganda campaigns, even establishing international educational programs where faculty have to pledge to promote USA interests.
There's a line in here about getting rid of PBS because SESAME STREET is LEFTIST for God's sake.
HOW are people claiming democrats have the same policies. I feel like i'm losing my mind.
