made my number one safe food wrong two times in a row a couple months ago and i still can't bring myself to eat it again... i didn't even make it bad it tasted adequately fine which is why i still ate it, but apparently i shouldn't have bc it was still just wrong enough that the whole food is basically evil to me now. fuck my baja blasted life

quickie question-
Anyone got any blog recommendations that have a focus on posting/writing about neat things like bugs, plants, space, architecture, etc? I'm aiming broadly at science-adjacent topics but tbh I'm always open to curiosity about things unfamiliar as well :v
I'm specifically looking for such accounts that post that sort of stuff, and don't post/reblog a lot of misc, memes or news stuff. Especially the latter, my main goal is to refocus my online experience away from constant doom-news-spam and into a place of rest and learning, while keeping news reading boxed into its specific place and time.

Hey y'all! Another weird question for you: How long do you have to fast for a blood sugar reading to count as a fasting blood sugar measurement? Also, does drinking soda (like, full sugar soda) slowly over the time before the blood test count as not-fasting? Asking because I keep testing* in the fasting blood sugar range when I am pretty sure I am not supposed to. Like, two hours after eating a meal when I've been slowly drinking soda the whole intervening time, or half an hour after drinking a whole full-sugar gatorade *with the home blood sugar test thing, not like doctor's office tests. though I test in the fasting range there too? I do know the word for the tester thing but I am brain fogged at the moment

I take the salt pills. but sugar is iffier. like there are sugar pills but I suspect#that's probably not the best way to increase my blood sugar

I am. Feeling so bad today

got a bunch of tomatoes to ring in summer for my household but didn't wear my walking boot to the store. major tactical error
#mol.txt#crps i am TIREDDD of you!!!#the doctors and the pt all like you don't have to wear the boot!#and i don't around the house like i am a barefoot around my own home person#but anything out and about i've been in the boot#and yesterday i went on a tomato adventure and i wasn't in the mood to deal with the boot and it does make my hip sore#bc the height difference#so i said fuck it let's try going out without the boot#which. the boot sort of is 50-50 on the crps stuff bc sometimes the texture etc of the boot is too much#and i felt pretty good yesterday! nothing terrible pain wise!#waking up today tho wowwwwwww the nerves are so fucking mad#just some throbbing pain at first now some stabbing knife needle type pain#i can feel the foot heating up#also i have hair on my foot that i've never had before? like my other foot has. light hair downy barely there#now on my left foot it's like. anyways the fact that I can't go more than a few days without meat before I start to feel like my body is slowly breaking down is part of why I'm so vehement that any movement that insists on one diet for everyone is inherently ableist
not everyone CAN eat meat
some people absolutely need to

Probably one of the more horrific food related things just happened to me
#random post#k so I have these drinks right? nutritional ones with high protein so I like. yknow. don’t die or whatever#anyways I pulled out one. keep in mind I’ve been drinking this brand for YEARS AND YEARS. anyways I get one and shake it as you do#and the lol carton had a give to it. and it just sounds really sloshy and weird. but I can’t really see any punctures or openings#like I squeeze it and nothing shoots out or whatever. anyways I go to open it#these drinks have a deal on the inside yes? the lid has these sort of prong things that break the inner seal and safety ring#when I tell you there was NO give or resistance when I opened it???? AND THE SMELLLLL OH MY GODDD#my sister wanted to see it so I poured a bit out. but as in bits. chunks. there were chunks in my drink#I CANNOTTTTT THIS IS LIKE WHEN THE BREAD HAD MOLD I CANT DEAL#EUGGHHGGVVHEVEE PAIN AND SUFFERING. YOU CANT DO SHIT LIKE THIS TO ME#WEEPING. SOBBING

#p#i also need to start eating more than two meals a day 😬#hmmm ok what have been my go to protein rich snacks/meals#deli meat for one#high protein yogurt#beans and chickpeas time to try to make hummus again???#i also need to make sure some sort of protein is a large part of my dinner#im thinking i need to incorporate more shrimp along with the chicken#maybe find some way to make higher in protein pancakes without protein powder??#theres got to be a way to throw in some greek yogurt in there#theres also high protein milk at the store i have thought about getting but i am afraid lol i just dont know if if would be good#if i can find some way to make eggs tolerable to me on a regular basis that would be nice

So on the plus side I did correctly identify a thing I was experiencing (low blood sugar) and how to treat it (food and sugary beverages) but on the minus side I did not identify it immediately so I made a very, uh, not great pierogi plushie? Apparently low-blood-sugar-me is similar to benadryl-me in that I'll forget things like "limbs for a hamster plushie" or "making the pierogi look like a pierogi and not just a beige blob" I'm okay now, my blood sugar didn't even get to what technically counts as hypoglycemia, it's just been a while since it got to the very shaky hands stage without me noticing it

I did FINALLY get a second meeting between myself accounting and IT to actually talk to both at once#because I keep getting conflicting instructions. so we got that sorted. but oh my gosh#my blood sugar wasn't technically low it was 86 by the time I measured it

no more than 4 hours of sleep <3
#i fell asleep around 11. then had this dream about firefighter body horror? and it made me feel miserable so i woke up#at about 2:30/3. and then couldn't fall back asleep . maybe got half an hour around 6 am. gave up at 7#the worst part is also i'm going to have suuuchhh a long day#i traded my shift at work tomorrow so i can go on this activity with my friend. so today i have to work during lunch#i have a class that ends att 11:10. then work either till 1 or 1:30 idk. then another class at 1:45.#then a little time from 3 to 4:30 before i have to go to a talk for a different class bc it can count against an abscence/low grade to go#and then 6 pm i'm going to trivia at this used bookstore with my friend.#where lunch and dinner factor into this i do NOT know#so i went to the dining hall for breakfast even though i usually don't. and made an omelette sandwich for the protein (2 eggs!)#which forced me to sadly miss my favorite choclate chip pancakes that they havent made at all this semester and i don't think i've had sinc#2023.#and they had chocolate croissants there too. literally not fair#but of course i'm full from the 2 eggs + mushrooms + cheese + peppers + bagel that i had so i couldn't take a little extra#i was planning to take a banana to eat at lunch but they didn't have them. literally what sort of dining hall doesn't have bananas#i have a granola bar in my bag and the building my afternoon class is in has a cafe that does lunch but idk if any of their lunch#sandwiches are vegetarian#talkin

We had a nutrition class at cardiac rehab today and usually I'm like "UGH I KNOW stop lecturing me" but today a few people got involved in discussion and it was kinda neat
Someone said they didn't know how to replace red meat in their diet cuz they don't like fish, people suggested chicken or pork or Impossible Beef or seitan (sp?). One lady commented that she'd never tried chickpeas and didn't think she'd like the bean-y texture and I was like "Oh you gotta try them roasted they get so crunchy and tasty" and she was like "Ooh, I like crunchy!"
I mentioned I find lentils too mushy, and one of the therapists was like "Were they red lentils? Try the green, they stay firmer!"
And I could go on but like
Instead of coming out of that nutrition class feeling browbeaten and annoyed, I'm kind of excited to go to a nice grocery store tomorrow and pick out some new foods to try :)
#i also suggested to the no-red-meat lady that if she couldn't incorporate new proteins into her meals#that she could snack on nuts and stuff to get her protein and she liked that suggestion :)#i struggle with that too and almonds are very tasty#man. i really want a big green salad with nuts on it now#i ate a lot of fast food the last 36 hours and now i am craving a big ol pile of veggies#will def have to grab some spring mix or smth tomorrow#mod post#food#nutrition#diet talk#sort of?#it's a cardiac program so we're trying to learn to eat more heart healthy#cardiac rehab

Either my meds or my body are trying to ruin me today so it seems a perfect opportunity to test the theory - can I make a full meal via the instapot rice cooker setting and nothing else
#ive made a gochujang garlic chicken broth and added rice and sausage in hopes of getting some kind of soup#i need heat comfort and protein that will be substantial enough for the night and possibly tomorrow.#like of it tastes good ill add an egg and have it for breakfast sort of thing

There will be, eventually. I swear it! I'm just genuinely still getting fucked by bronchitis rn. Good news I finally finished most of the meds I was prescribed (except an inhaler who is my best friend and I love her because she helps me breathe), meaning I'm on the mend. Bad news, the withdrawal from one of the meds is kicking my feeble ass.
I will say this: I'm finally going to go see Bikeriders this weekend so hopefully some inspiration will hit and Biker!Gale will have his day.
None of my projects are ever abandoned btw. A/B/O fic is slowly getting worked on in the background as is the silly fic I mentioned a few days ago. Biker!Gale will get published I promise.
#so one of the withdrawal symptoms for the meds i was on is like intense emotional upheaval? idk how to describe it but it a lot like a#depressive spiral of a sorts so its not amazing to go through#i talked to one of my friends who does medical research about who said a high protein diet would help and recommend some shakes#so we're getting through this gang#she speaks#asks#also i love how this came like minutes after i tagged something biker!gale lol y'all were waiting y'all have been waiting for 84 years
