Trust in God under Adversity
1 The psalm of David, when he fled from the face of Absalom, his son. Lord, why be they multiplied that trouble me? many men rise against me. (The song of David, when he fled from his son Absalom. Lord, why be there so many who trouble me? why be there so many who rise up against me?)
2 Many men say of my soul, None health there is to him in his God. (Many say of me, There is no help for him from his God.)
3 But thou, Lord, art mine up-taker; my glory, and enhancing mine head. (But thou, Lord, art my defender; my glory, and the one who lifteth up my head.)
4 With my voice I cried to the Lord; and he heard me from his holy hill. (I cried to the Lord with my voice; and he answered me from his holy hill.)
5 I slept, and rested, and I rose up; for the Lord received me (for the Lord had protected me).
6 I shall not dread thousands of people (en)compassing me; (I shall not fear even thousands of people surrounding me;)
7 Lord, arise thou; my God, make me safe. For thou hast smitten all men being adversaries to me without cause; thou hast all-broken the teeth of sinners. (Lord, rise thou up; my God, save me. Thou hast struck down all who be my adversaries; thou hast broken all the teeth of the sinners.)
8 Health is of the Lord; and thy blessing is on thy people. (Victory is from the Lord/Salvation, or deliverance, is from the Lord; and thy blessing is upon thy people.) — Psalm 3 | Wycliffe Bible (WYC) The Wycliffe Bible is in the public domain. 1 O God, my enemies multiply in number. So many keep coming against me! 2 They scornfully say, "God will never save her!" 3 But You, O God, are my wall of protection. I glory in You, and in Your strength hold my head high. 4 I cry loudly to You, and You answer me. 5 I lie down and sleep in safety. You keep watch over me until I wake again. 6 In spite of the violent people who surround me, I am not afraid, nor faint-hearted. 7 I know that You will rise up and save me, breaking the power of violence. 8 Salvation belongs to You, Shaddai! Your blessing abides with Your people.
Possible uses of this psalm:
Conquer all fears (read psalm by a red candle, focusing especially on verse 3)
Have a peaceful, safe, and rewarding day (repeat each morning, saying before and after "God, grant me a sympathetic heart, gentle words, and ready hands that I might help my neighbor in need. Amen.")
Relief from severe headache or back pain (don't use in place of conventional medical care)
Prayer for protection

Feeling Blue, Seeing Red
“Lord, how many are my foes!Psalm 3:1 Longing for a purple world? I wouldn’t plan on it. For instance, meet Betty. Betty leans red, but the rest of her family is firmly blue. Judging by the signs in people’s yards, the neighborhood around them is clearly red. That’s surprising, because their city tends to vote overwhelmingly blue. Which doesn’t seem to matter, since the county they live in is…

Devotional: Psalm 3
O Lord, how many are my foes!     Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul,     “There is no salvation for him in God.” But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,     my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the Lord,     and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah I lay down and slept;     I woke again, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of many thousands of…

Thou Adonai are a shield for me. Psalm 3 is a psalm of David, written during a time when he was fleeing from his son Absalom. In the psalm, David expresses his trust in YHWH for protection and deliverance from his enemies. He declares that Adonai is his shield and savior and that he will not be afraid even when he is surrounded by enemies. The psalm also includes a request for YHWH to hear his cries for help and to save him from his oppressors. It serves as a powerful reminder of the need to turn to YHWH in times of trouble and to put our trust in Him for protection and salvation. Enjoy this song, sung by Michael and Viktoria.

Psalm 3 - A Meditation
Trust in God under Adversity
A Psalm of David, when he fled from his son Absalom.
1 O Lord, how many are my foes!     Many are rising against me; 2 many are saying to me,     ‘There is no help for you[a] in God.’Selah
3 But you, O Lord, are a shield around me,     my glory, and the one who lifts up my head. 4 I cry aloud to the Lord,     and he answers me from his holy hill.Selah
5 I lie down and sleep;     I wake again, for the Lord sustains me. 6 I am not afraid of tens of thousands of people     who have set themselves against me all around.
7 Rise up, O Lord!     Deliver me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;     you break the teeth of the wicked.
8 Deliverance belongs to the Lord;     may your blessing be on your people!Selah
Footnotes
Psalm 3:2 Syr: Heb him ** ** ** ** **
One of the reasons I find the Bible such an interesting record and feel it captures actual history, is David is such a complex character. There are great things he did, but also some deeply screwed up morally reprehensible actions as well. Then you have the part where King David had to flee for his life due to a son of his starting an insurrection.
Sitting here, drinking my coffee, trying to stay awake on a Wednesday morning in an American suburb, I don't think I could be further away from the place David wrote this Psalm. I'm not a father, I'm not a king, and I don't have anyone actively trying to murder me.
My fears and concerns are about lack of income, ever increasing inflation, and fear that one of this days I will try to pray and No One will be there to listen.
I have been in a place where this Psalm was accurate. You know, active fear for my life, active fear of what was next, and a non stop dread. So, to not have that kind of fear currently... it's nice.
Step by step, I hope to make some progress towards something that makes sense on every level.

Learning to Trust God
24 “If I have made gold my trust     or called fine gold my confidence, 25 if I have rejoiced because my wealth was abundant     or because my hand had found much, 26 if I have looked at the sun when it shone,     or the moon moving in splendor, 27 and my heart has been secretly enticed,     and my mouth has kissed my hand, 28 this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges,     for I…

Monday, 7/24/23
SCRIPTURE:
(Morning Prayer of Trust in God.)
Salvation belongs to the Lord; Your blessing be upon Your people!Selah. ~ Psalms 3:8
OBSERVATION:
Salvation belongs to the Lord...
It's not something that I own or earn - but I can claim it...
It is His blessing to give - and He has given it...
To His people - to me...
...through Jesus...
Selah:
Pause and listen...
Reflect
Exalt
APPLICATION:
Claim His blessing...
Pause and listen...
Reflect...
Exalt...
PRAYER:
(Referencing verses 3, 5, and 6)
Shielding Father God - my Glory and the One who lifts my head - I seek Your forgiveness for taking You sustaining gifts for granted... May Your Holy Spirit strengthen me when my selfishness sets itself against me and my desire to be who You would have me - loving You first and foremost with all I am, and loving those around me as I ought to love myself - as one forgiven and blessed and saved by Jesus... In His Name, Father, and for Your glory...
Yours, in Him - gratefully and joyfully...
