Introducing the Boyfriend to the family! It goes…okay?
DK is cool with it, but Rayman is unsure if Cranky likes him. 😬
I think Rabbid Cranky Kong would see Peaches as a granddaughter. DK is like a brother to Rabbid Peach! Just a silly little family in another dimension. She misses them quite a bit sometimes, but won’t admit it. 😔

So. There’s an theory regarding Phantom that is kinda common I think? And I wanted to hear what you thought about/if you knew about it before.
Said theory is that the relic of goodness now known as Phantom’s gramophone was originally Crankey’s gramophone.
Tumblr media
And it is supported by the fact that Phantom starts of with “whose done me a thousand wrongs ever since Donkey Kong”
I find it a fun enough theory so I thought I’d see if you hade heard it before.
I think I've heard this thrown out there, yeah! They look very similar, don't they? And we know at least a lot of the devs were big DK/Rare fans. Associating gramophones with Cranky Kong is common (I mean for me certainly DKC was the first time I ever saw one); according to a Cuphead artbook, Elder Kettle having one was supposed to be a direct reference haha
On the one hand it makes a lot of sense as being the origin of Phantom's meanness and his irrational hatred of Mario, lol. Cranky is mean to everyone and, as the original Donkey Kong, probably bears a grudge. So something owned and touched and treasured by Cranky could carry that over.
On the other hand I feel Cranky is the type to be very guarded and protective with his possessions, especially anything important to him, so I don't know why his gramophone would end up in some spooky backwater of the Mushroom Kingdom. It's pretty iconic so I also think it's likely we will see him with it again someday, that is if we EVER get a new DK game lol. So I feel like I can't commit to this theory too hard.
Also just as a fanon thing, I like to imagine Cranky's is well worn and well loved and a little scuffed (especially from when DK knocked it away during DKC's intro), and Phantom's is well preserved and pristine and shiny and lovely, thus contributing to his vain and beautiful nature.
Not to disprove the theory or anything, it's a good one! I'm just not entirely sold on it personally I guess :p

HOW I CLASSIFY MAIN CHARACTERS OF MARIO ON THAT LIST IF YOU CARE
7- Star Children (not because i put any stock in yoshis island ds but simply because The Prophecy happens to include what i would consider the core cast) and Toad
6- Non-star children that are recognizable to rando's and/or important to mario history in a meta or real sense, most if not all have appeared in mario kart (e.g. daisy, waluigi, kamek)
5- Iconic Mario Enemies (mostly those that appeared in smb, but my benchmark is "could i buy a shirt with them on it not online"), pom pom + boom boom, babies from smw2 yoshi's island, main villains of non-rpg games, diddy
4- Rpg partners and fawful, Iconic Mario Bosses (appear in spinoffs in addition to their debut game - not necessarily playable, for example King Bob-omb shows up in mario party minigames), babies from yoshi's island ds, cranky kong, piantas because they were apex predators during the entire gamecube-wii era
3-remaining enemies and allies from mainline(subjective) games, kongs that appear in spinoffs, remaining guys from rpgs, capt. syrup, rudy, scienstein, stanley
2- alternate forms of main characters (except metal mario that was a 3), your wariolands and wariowares
1- sports humans, Foreign Interlopers (e.g. rabbids, bomberman), most remaining kong stuff

Lately I've been doing a lot of Mario Kart-style icons for characters that'll more than likely never get into Mario Kart, at least anytime soon. Here's some of the icons I've done in the past two days: the Rabbids from the Mario + Rabbids games, and the extended members of the Kong family!
For the Kongs, they were pretty fun to work on. The iconic "DK" symbol has a specific style that was really fun to replicate for the other Kongs. I think I did the style justice! I also had to come up with some two-letter acronyms for some of them - Cranky already has "CK" for his icon, so Chunky gets CH and Candy gets CD.
Smaller note about Candy, her icon's colors are based on her top! Thought that would be a neat touch.
Tumblr media
As for the Rabbids, as you can see all of them incorporate the iconic "R" of the Rabbids logo in some way. It would theoretically be a crossover if they got in, so I thought it made sense. Most of them just stick the R somewhere in their original character's icon, like with Rabbid Mario, Rabbid Rosalina, and Rabbid Kong. Others were just made from the ground up, like Edge or Rabbid Yoshi. The latter of which is my favorite icon, I think the Yoshi head and tongue look great!

Quick Review- "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" (SPOILERS ALERT)
Tumblr media
Anyone who knows me already knows how much of a Mario fan I am. Hell, my family could probably tell you some wild tales about my Super Mario Bros. addiction during my grade school days. But even the announcement in 2018 that Nintendo was going forward with Illumination to make an animated feature length film based on their flagship franchise made me more that a little overly cautious; after all their previous effort (the live action 1993 film) did not exactly do them ay favors either (and while were at it, the TV shows, while memorable, still leave much to be desired). This also is not the first time that the Mario Bros. would be in an animated film (Back in 1986, there was an anime called “The Great Mission To Rescue Princess Peach!”, which never got a US release. Doug Walker actually reviewed it so if you want you can look it up)
Fast forward to now. The movie has now made about $600 million at the time of this review and has yet to be released in Japan. I have a feeling though that after it is released it will make a lot more. And I’m not just saying that because I’ve personally seen this movie twice. That’s something I very rarely do as far as my movie theater habits go  and if I do that its most assuredly a sign the movie in question is worth my time.
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” serves as an origin story for the two Brooklyn born plumbers, the plot being straightforward and simple much like the mainline Mario games: the two siblings somehow find themselves whisked away into another parallel dimension and get separated, with Luigi ending up in the Dark Lands and Mario landing in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario enlists the aid of Princess Peach and, along with Toad, sets off to save Luigi from Bowser, the king of the Koopa tribe, who just acquired the Super Star. The group journey to the Jungle to enlist the aid of the Kong Army, led by Cranky Kong and his son, Donkey Kong.
As I mentioned before, the plot is pretty straightforward and to the point: at 92 minutes there is quite a bit going on and it comes at you fast. Not too much time is spent on character development for certain individual members like Luigi and DK. We get a revelation about Peach’s backstory (not being from the Mushroom Kingdom is certainly an eye raising reveal) and hints about the relationship between DK and his dad, but its not really a focus. You get the sense that Nintendo wanted to play it safe with the story, but at the same time you want just a little bit more. Thankfully the story is enjoyable as it is, and has enough humor, action and equally touching moments to sustain itself. A lot has been said about the choices for casting in the film and for me, while the choice of Chris Pratt was very questionable when I first heard about it I was glad I took a wait and see stance to it. He did quite a good job in the role and so did Jack Black as Bowser in all of his evil, kinda hammy. Scene chewing role. Of course, his demeanor changing whenever the subject of Princess Peach being brought up is also VERY notable. I mean dude practically sung a love ballad about her (TWICE) and stole the damn Super Star just to try to impress Peach. I can understand that though, given how she is in the movie. Princess Peach, voiced by Anya-Taylor Joy, serves as Mario’s guide and possible love interest in the movie and instead of being the person who has to be saved for most of the adventure, is the more action oriented and confident character accompanying Mario. If the prospects of Peach jump kicking Bowser, using power ups and generally willing to throw down with a gang of Koopas at a wedding reception seem to be alien to you or out of character, I will assume you have never played Super Mario Bros. 2…
…or Super Mario RPG…
…or Super Paper Mario…
…or any Mario Party games…
…or Mario Strikers…
…or Super Smash Bros…
…or the Mario + Rabbids games.
You’re lucky I didn’t even mention the stuff she did in the Super Mario Adventures manga! Anyway the point is, she is pretty darn awesome in this film. Fred Armisen’s take on Cranky is…well…ok why does he sound like Larry David? I half expected to hear "Frolic" by Luciano Michelini play when he got caught oy the Para Koopas on Rainbow Road.
Visually, the movie is animated very well and does a great job of animating the worlds in great detail, including familiar locations from across the games that you may immediately recognize. There are also TONS of audio and visual easter eggs and references not just from Mario history, but Nintendo history as well. (Quick show of hands, who found the Wave Race reference? The Hidden N64 Controller? Who found Mr. Game and Watch or recognized Disk Kun) The movie happily, and with no shame, throws in all of these nods to Nintendo’s past and I have no issue trying to find them all. Which says a LOT about my attention span. There are 4 different licensed songs used in the movie though but their inclusion doesn’t really detract from the enjoyment. (Ok 5 songs. One of them is directly tied to Chris Pratt and another certain movie series he is involved with.)
The movie is not exactly perfect and that’s ok. I was not expecting a huge scale thought provoking movie that makes me question the motivations of humanity (I’ll save that for whatever DC movie comes out next) I just wanted a fun adventure anyone and everyone can enjoy. And this movie certainly delivers on that.

Listen Mario fans be eating good Tonight.
Mario kart 8 deluxe getting a beeg house track with Petey, Wiggler, AND Kamek? Stunning. Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon getting a remake? Stunning. Mario+Rabbids dlc? Beautiful. A NEW WARIOWARE GAME SO SOON AFTER THE LAST ONE? BRILLIANT! PEACH GETTING A NEW GAME FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2005? BRILLIANT! SUPER MARIO RPG REMAKE!?? SUPER MARIO FUCKING WONDER!?
I'm so hyped and this direct as well as the movie are pushing me deeper into my Mario universe obsession.
HOWEVER, not trying to sound greedy here; but I'm kinda disappointed we didn't see a new Wario Land or Donkey Kong Country, since we haven't seen either since 2009 and 2013 respectfully. HOWEVER! I have a theory; a very crack-y theory but one regardless; is that Wario and Donkey Kong are going to be playeble in Super Mario Wonder With their move sets from WL and DKC respectfully.
The evidence for Wario;
Tumblr media
This was the twitter user who originally leaked Super Mario Bros Wonder as well as Super Mario RPG Remake. Of course we know what the Daisy, Elephant, and Caterpillar Emojis mean; being playeble Daisy, the Elephant powerup, and the Crawling pipe. We don't know what the Star, Purple, and coin Emoji mean. Alot of people have been speculating that this is a hint towards playeble Rosalina, Waluigi and Wario respectfully. PLUS Wario was originally planned to be playeble in both NSMBWii and NSMB2, particularly stated to use his Wario Land moveset (atleast in NSMB2's case) Peach was also considered to be playeble In NSMBWii and later became playeble in here. Also having Wario being in a mainline Mario game isn't unprecedented *cough* SM64DS *cough* Also WarioWare Get it together! Had Wario preforming his iconic shoulder bash, so likely the Wario Land games are in public conscious. and, atleast according to jack black we are likely to see Wario in the second Mario Movie, and I feel like would get references to WarioWare and Wario Land, as well as a Lego Wario set and Wario Land/ WarioWare charecters in Mario Kart Tour...speaking of which;
As for Donkey Kong;
Tumblr media
Nintendo has been advertising Donkey Kong Country like CRAZY! there's the Mario+Rabbids DLC, there's now Lego Donkey Kong sets, Dixie Kong AND Funky Kong got in Mario Kart Tour, He was a Huge part of the movie, which also featured Cranky Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and oh yeah, Chunky Kong and Swanky Kong!? Really Really deep cuts. There's atleast Something brewing with Donkey Kong for them to do nothing with him, and to be far the rumors of a new 3d Donkey Kong are probably true. But it seems odd to have nothing be done with him until then. I think that Donkey Kong being in Super Mario Wonder would be a great way to tide fans over, plus the movie showed him using Mario Powerups!? Like Nintendo had to approve that to some capacity.
Another sub theory I have relating to the Mario Movie and potential could be true for Super Mario Bros Wonder or a new Donkey Kong game;
Tumblr media
I feel like the reason why they put Dixie, Diddy, AND Chunky right next to eachother was because either In Super Mario Wonder or a new DKC; They'll be playeble alongside Donkey Kong to reference the original Donkey Kong Country (with Chunky replacing Kiddie, since let's face it no one likes Kiddie Kong and Chunky Kong is better in every single way)
Ok I'm sorry for the funny wahoo man brainworms I'm just REALLY excited for Super Mario Bros Wonder.

I just dropped two submissions from the Mario franchise, how are they doing?
Cranky Kong has 4 submissions (maybe 5? Is Rabbid Cranky the same person? I don't think so, but you never know I guess), Professor E Gadd has 3, and Admiral Bobbery and Toadsworth have one each

Family Far Away From Home…🌺🏝️🍌
Silly little doodle comic about my Raypeach (Rayman x Rabbid Peach) fankid, Phoebe, meeting her great grandfather (Rabbid Cranky Kong) for the first time!
For context, Rabbid Peach did not give birth to her kid. Instead, Phoebe was created by Mr. Dark as a sign of peace between him and Rayman! This is just to give explanation for Rabbid Cranky’s worries about his grandbaby in case it wasn’t clear.
For him to suddenly find out that she had a kid AND didn’t tell them anything about her potential pregnancy nearly gave him a heart attack!! It broke his heart to think about her going through something this scary without them… 😔
Rabbid Peach’s family in another dimension…I think about them a lot. I’ll have to draw Donkey Kong being the world’s best Uncle to Phoebe someday! Maybe she’d get along with Diddy Kong too? Idk! We’ll see! 🤔
I’ll make a proper design page for Phoebe one day, but for now, enjoy my silly little doodles of her and her family! I love them all so much.

Well might as well give you my nicknames for all the Rabbid counterparts-
Rabbid Peach = RP Rabbid Mario = Remmy Rabbid Luigi = Louie Rabbid Yoshi = Royo Rabbid Rosalina = Lina Rabbid Kong = RK Rabbid Cranky = Cranks
I gave them all nicknames 'cause all that "Rabbid _____" would just be redundant-
I have these too, but yours are way better lol. Mine just kinda developed organically as shorthand when I was streaming the first game five years ago (except for Rosie's obv) so I didn't have to say "Rabbid X" every time.
Petch, Weege (like "Weej" not "Weejie"), Merry-o, Yoshy (yosh as in josh), Cronky, RK, and Rosie (or Rabsalina)
They are very silly and most of them are more like just different pronunciations of their counterparts' names. Yours are more like nicknames they would actually have for each other. I just call them by their full names or abbreviations (RM, RL etc) when posting on here usually so people know who I'm talking about.
