'Moneyball' - One of the Best Baseball Movies Ever
WRITER’S NOTE: This movie review was written in 2012. I present it now as the latest baseball season has now begun. “Moneyball” is, for my money, the best baseball movie since “Bull Durham” as, like Ron Shelton’s 1988 classic, it takes a very unique look at this American pastime and the players who inhabit it. Whereas most baseball movies are about rising to the occasion and winning the big…

Sara, you’re in Rolling Stone!! What did you think of the article? I’m shocked you agreed to this since I thought you cherished your privacy.
I know, right? Here’s an anecdote that didn’t make the article that spans from before I even knew Sara very well until shortly after the Homeland finale. (And continued this week when I asked for her parents’ address.)
- Can you give any examples of things she said that were memorable back in the beginning of your relationship? Not really, actually... we were mostly acquaintances at the beginning. However, one memorable Sara moment occurred in October of that year. I had a couple of friends who were going to the Homeland panel at PaleyFest, but I was unable to join because Peter Brook had a production at BAM and he was doing a talk afterward. I'd gone to the Drama Bookshop earlier in the day and I'd found a couple of author-signed copies of "Dry Powder," which I knew Sara had seen. I picked them up and sent them with my friends to Paley, and they had Claire sign it for Sara. I messaged her the next day asking for her address, and she was deeply suspicious. She was like, "my e-mail address?" I told her I wanted to send her something, but she went completely silent on me, so I had to take a picture of the play with the inscription to Sara. I'd wanted it to be a surprise, but whatever. She gave me her address after that. I assumed it was because I was basically a stranger, but I asked for her address in the UK recently, and she asked me why I wanted it... like, at this point she knew there was nothing nefarious going on, I've been to her apartment in the UK, what does she think I am going to do with this information!?

Benedict Cumberbatch says it's exhausting playing drug addict in 'Patrick Melrose'. (Source) Pictures : 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6.
Several scenes in Showtime's new "Patrick Melrose" series make Benedict Cumberbatch's famously hyperactive Sherlock Holmes look sedated.
Each episode of the five-part show, launching Saturday at 9 p.m., is based on one of Edward St. Aubyn's quasi-autobiographical books. They focus on Patrick, a wealthy British scion who is sexually abused by his father as a child, develops a deep drug addiction as a teenager and battles to put his life back together.
In the first episode alone, we see Patrick trapped in a desperate and reckless quest for heroin on a visit to New York. He lapses into incoherence on a date at a fancy restaurant. He barges into the worst part of town. He weighs suicide and finally explodes in a manic frenzy of violent destruction. "Playing it was exhausting," Cumberbatch tells the Daily News. "Although, to put it in perspective, not as exhausting as actually living that life. I'm wary of saying, 'Yes, it was so trying,' because all the best roles are."
Executive producer Rachael Horovitz says of Cumberbatch, "After one particularly long scene, the crew gave him an ovation."
And does the actor let go of that intensity once the camera stops rolling?
"Hell, yeah," says Cumberbatch, 41. "Can you imagine taking that beast home with you?"
He adds that off-camera, he'll "sit quietly in a corner" calculating how someone who's not addicted to heroin portrays someone who is.
"You don't learn how to act like a drunk by getting drunk," Cumberbatch says. You do it by figuring how to portray the potential psychological and physical effects."
"In this case, you also need to remember this isn't just a story about addiction. It's about whether we are ultimately capable of changing."
Rounding out the cast are Sebastian Maltz as the young Patrick; Jennifer Jason Leigh as Patrick's distracted mother Eleanor; Hugo Weaving as Patrick's abusive dad David; Anna Madeley as Patrick's wife Mary; Allison Williams as Marianne, the woman he wants; and Blythe Danner as Nancy, Patrick's rich American aunt.
And while it may not seem possible, "Patrick Melrose," against all logic and unlike almost every other tale in the crowded field of abusive childhood dramas, is funny. Patrick has a rapier wit and no boundaries for employing it.
"He has to have a sense of humor," says Cumberbatch. "That's what makes it all bearable."
The humor comes directly from St. Aubyn's books, which Cumberbatch calls some of the most riveting writing he's ever read.
"Edward's words are what made me want to play Patrick," he says, and a happy coincidence smoothed his path.
"Edward had approached us about doing a series," says Horovitz. "We thought about Benedict, who may be the busiest man in the world, having no idea he also wanted to do it. So we had a meeting, where normally you have to convince an actor to come on board, and it was all 'Yes, yes, yes,' on both sides."
Cumberbatch adds, "All meetings should go like that."
Since 2010, the actor has starred as private detective Sherlock Holmes in the crime drama TV show "Sherlock." Some three or four years ago, from the enviable position of being solicited for almost every TV, film and stage production in the universe, Cumberbatch narrowed his focus to two.
"I was set to have a go at Hamlet," Cumberbatch tells the Daily News. "And I knew I would love to attempt Patrick Melrose."
Cumberbatch dove into "Hamlet" with 92 performances at London's National Theater in 2015. Then he was ready for "Patrick Melrose."
As for what happens next, don't assume the busiest man in the world is through with either Hamlet or Patrick Melrose.
"With Hamlet," he says, "there's such an incalculable number of variables. After 92 performances, I'm still not sure I've gotten it."
And Patrick Melrose?
"You have a secret wish that perhaps people who see this series will clamor for more books, like they did with 'The Night Manager,'" Cumberbatch says. "I could imagine Edward revisiting him, perhaps 25 years in the future.
"That would be intriguing. But this story doesn't need it. It's a unique event around a unique and wonderful series."

‘A Wilderness of Error’ premieres tonight at 8pm EST, and Next Day FX on Hulu. I play the titular role of Jeffrey MacDonald in this docuseries, centered around a now 50 year old case, to which there seems to be virtually no closure. ABOUT THE SHOW From Emmy® Award winning producer Marc Smerling, Emmy Award winning studio Blumhouse and UCP, comes a five-part documentary series, A Wilderness of Error, based on the best-selling book by filmmaker and author Errol Morris who also appears in the series. When Army surgeon Jeffrey MacDonald is sent to prison for killing his family, a storm of swirling narratives challenges our very ability to find the truth all the while overshadowing a chilling possibility: MacDonald may be an innocent man. Marc Smerling directs, and executive produces the series alongside Blumhouse Television and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Additional executive producers include Michael Jackson and Rachael Horovitz, who acquired the rights to the book; Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Marci Wiseman, Mary Lisio, Dawn Olmstead and Jessica Grimshaw.

Showtime Networks has ordered Melrose, a five-part limited series toplined and executive produced by Sherlock and Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch.
The project, a co-production between Showtime and Sky Atlantic, is based on the Patrick Melrose series of semi-autobiographical novels written by Edward St. Aubyn. David Nicholls (Far From the Madding Crowd), who called Cumberbatch “the perfect Patrick Melrose,” is writing all five episodes of the TV adaptation. Search is underway for a director.
Melrose skewers the upper class as it tracks the protagonist’s harrowing odyssey from a deeply traumatic childhood through adult substance abuse and, ultimately, toward recovery. Cumberbatch’s Patrick Melrose is an aristocratic and outrageously funny playboy who struggles to overcome the damage inflicted by a horribly abusive father and the mother who tacitly condoned the behavior. Each episode will follow one of the five novels, and take place over the course of a few intense days in the life of the protagonist. The settings range from the South of France in the 1960s to New York in the 1980s and Britain in the early 2000.
The limited series will begin shooting in New York, London and the South of France in August.
“We have been huge fans of these books for many years and David Nicholls’ adaptations are extraordinary.” said Benedict Cumberbatch and Adam Ackland of Cumberbatch’s SunnyMarch TV.
Indeed, asked in 2013 if he could play any literary character ever, Cumberbatch shared in a Reddit Q&A that it would be Patrick Melrose.
Michael Jackson and Rachael Horovitz (Moneyball) executive produce alongside Cumberbatch and Ackland. Melrose will be the first production for Two Cities Television, the drama banner recently formed by Jackson, former Channel Four and IAC executive.
The Patrick Melrose series of novels consists of Never Mind, Bad News, Some Hope, Mother’s Milk, and At Last. Mother’s Milk was made into a feature film in 2012, with Jack Devenport as Melrose.
Cumberbatch also recently signed on to star in and executive produce a 90-minute TV movie adaptation of Ian McEwan’s award-winning 1987 novel The Child In Time for BBC One and Masterpiece written by Stephen Butchard. He has amassed four Primetime Emmy Award nominations and one win for his title role in BBC’s Sherlock, whose Season 5 is up in the air. He also received an Oscar nomination in 2015 for The Imitation Game. Cumberbatch, whose feature credits also include Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Star Trek Into Darkness, and 12 Years a Slave, is repped by UTA, Conway Van Gelder Grant and Sloane Offer. UTA and Conway Van Gelder Grant handled the U.S. deal around the limited series.

From the Deadline article: ‘Michael Jackson and Rachael Horovitz (Moneyball) executive produce alongside Cumberbatch and Ackland.’
From Variety: ’Cumberbatch will also serve as an exec producer along with Adam Ackland, his production partner in SunnyMarch, and Rachael Horovitz and Michael Jackson of Two Cities Television.’
What I was thinking was that if BC and AA are exec producing, it would be, on their end, under the banner of SunnyMarch TV, which StudioCanal has invested in, not that it was a SC production.
The thing about the legal firm is mentioned along with his agents and managers at the bottom of one of the articles.  The firm, Sloane Offer, do legal work for film productions.  You can look them up on IMDB.  Not, unfortunately, divorce attorneys ;)

Thanks for clearing that up WFW Anon!
And thank you to the Nonny who also sent me a clarifying ask about the law firm!

Benedict Cumberbatch to Star in ‘Melrose’ Drama for Showtime, Sky Atlantic
Cynthia Littleton FEBRUARY 28, 2017 | 05:15AM PT
Benedict Cumberbatch is set to star in the limited series “Melrose” for Showtime and Sky Atlantic.
The five-part drama is based on the series of novels by Edward St. Aubyn. David Nicholls is set to pen the series adaptation.
The semi-autobiographical novels follow the character of Patrick Melrose, who makes a “harrowing odyssey from a deeply traumatic childhood through adult substance abuse and, ultimately, toward recovery.” Each episode will cover one novel and a few intense days in Melrose’s life. The time frame spans the south of France in the 1960s, New York in the 1980s and London in the early 2000s.
The Showtime-Sky Atlantic production will shoot in New York and France. Cumberbatch will also serve as an exec producer along with Adam Ackland, his production partner in SunnyMarch, and Rachael Horovitz and Michael Jackson of Two Cities Television.
“We are delighted to be part of this incredible series,” said Cumberbatch and Ackland. “We have been huge fans of these books for many years and David Nicholls adaptations are extraordinary.”
Cumberbatch has earned Emmy nominations and a win in 2014 for his work in the PBS anthology series “Sherlock.” He nabbed an Oscar nom and numerous other kudos for his work in 2014’s “The Imitation Game.”
“I’ve been a huge admirer of Edward St Aubyn’s novels for years, and can’t wait to bring these dark, witty, brilliant books to the screen. Benedict is the perfect Patrick Melrose,” said Nicholls, known for penning such films as 2015’s “Far From the Madding Crowd” and 2011’s “One Day.”
