Einer muss dran glauben: Hamburg, Gießen, Weißenfels und Göttingen - Kellerkinder im Fokus15.11.2019

Aktuell gibt es vier Klub für mich, die in dieser Saison um den Verbleib in der Liga bangen sollten – und genau diese vier Mannschaften stehen sich am Samstagabend in zwei direkten Duellen gegenüber (Gießen – MBC, Hamburg – Göttingen). Grund genug, die aktuelle Situation der vier Sorgenkinder zu beleuchten.

Zugegeben: Es sind noch drei weitere Teams schlecht in die Saison gestartet, aber da sieht das Gesamtbild positiver aus. Bayreuth beispielsweise hat sich mit zuletzt zwei Siegen stabilisiert - die Rückkehr des verletzten Nationalspielers Andreas Seiferth und die Nachverpflichtung des in der Wagnerstadt äußerst beliebten Nate Linhart sind die beiden Faktoren, die dafür sorgen, dass die Schützlinge von Raoul Korner nicht mehr wie ein Abstiegskandidat auftreten. Bonn und Ulm konnten bislang jeweils auch nur einen Sieg verbuchen, verfügen aber über zu viel Substanz um bezüglich des Klassenerhalts bangen zu müssen. Mittelfristig sollte es für beide Teams nach oben gehen. Bleiben also Gießen, Göttingen, Hamburg und der MBC als aktuell „heißeste Kandidaten“ für den Abstiegsplatz.

Hamburg Towers (2:10 Punkte, Platz 13)

Nach den bisherigen Eindrücken sind die Towers die schlechteste Mannschaft der Liga. Mit nicht einmal 73 Punkten pro Partie stellt der Aufsteiger die mit Abstand schwächste Offensive. Die Wurfquote aus dem Zweierbereich ist überschaubar (48,5 Prozent), die von Downtown unterirdisch (25,6). Mit beiden Werten ist man Ligaschlusslicht. Auch von der Freiwurflinie (70,8) läuft es kaum besser, nur Frankfurt weist hier einen schwächeren Wert auf. Leider stellt die Verteidigung mit durchschnittlich 92,7 Gegenpunkten auch kein Fundament, auf das man bauen kann.

Die Mannschaft benötigt dringend eine Infusion und entsprechend haben die Verantwortlichen Jorge Gutierrez nachverpflichtet (47 NBA-Spiele zwischen 2013-16). Der Mexikaner soll die Defensive stärken und offensiv mit seinen Drives Optionen kreieren. Aber es bleiben Fragen: Wie wird er mit Heiko Schaffartzik (auch Gutierrez gilt als „Zocker“ und „Gambler“) harmonieren, und wer soll Würfe von außen treffen?

JobStairs GIESSEN 46ers (2:10 Punkte, Platz 15)

Schon nach der Auftaktniederlage gegen Crailsheim kündigte Geschäftsführer Heiko Schelberg an, dass diese Saison für Gießen „ein Ritt auf der Rasierklinge“ werden würde. Die Personaldecke ist im Vergleich zur Vorsaison deutlich kürzer. Auf den deutschen Positionen stehen lediglich die Youngster Bjarne Kraushaar und Alen Pjanic zur Verfügung – und natürlich John Bryant. Aber der Kapitän steht aufgrund seines immer noch unzureichenden Fitnesszustandes im Mittelpunkt der medialen und öffentlichen Kritik. Sein Back-up Kendall Gray ist jedoch so schwach, dass man auch auf einen unfitten „Big John“ angewiesen ist. Die Mannschaft sollte jünger und athletischer werden. Das ist sie zweifellos geworden, aber angesichts des Entscheidungsverhaltens einiger Spieler wird offensichtlich, dass dies nicht auch automatisch besser bedeutet. Für den ausgefallenen Luke Petrasek steht mit Power Forward Matt Tiby gegen die Wölfe ein neuer Mann zur Verfügung.

SYNTAINICS MBC (2:12 Punkte, Platz 16)

Die Weißenfelser verfügen von den gefährdeten Teams über den klar besten und tiefsten Kader. Nach der undurchsichtigen Trennung von Wojciech Kaminski steht beim MBC mittlerweile mit Björn Harmsen ein neuer Head Coach an der Seitenlinie, der den Standort, die Liga und den Abstiegskampf kennt. Seine wichtigste Aufgabe wird es sein, bei seiner Mannschaft eine defensive Mentalität zu etablieren. In der Offensive stecken genug Pfeile im Köcher. Mit WM-Teilnehmer Kaza Kajami-Keane, Strahinja Micovic, Michael Gbinije und Andrew Warren stehen vier Akteure zur Verfügung, die immer für 20 Zähler gut sind, dazu zwei exzellente Vorbereiter mit Kajami-Keane und Jovan Novak (wobei einem bei Novak natürlich zuerst diese Skurrilität aus dem Video rechts einfällt). Da ist es auch zu verschmerzen, dass Rookie-Center Cameron Jackson Erfahrung und Zentimeter fehlen. Der MBC wird sehr wahrscheinlich nicht absteigen. Er verfügt vorne über zu viel Talent, und inklusive einer verbesserten Defense sollte die Mission Klassenerhalt geschafft werden.

BG Göttingen (2:12 Punkte, Platz 17)

Am vergangenen Wochenende fuhr die BG Göttingen als letztes Team ihren ersten Saisonsieg ein – und das mit einem treffsicheren Auftritt gegen Oldenburg (Video rechts). Für Coach Johan Roijakkers war der erste rosa Zettel nur eine Frage der Zeit, denn er attestierte seiner Mannschaft zuvor fast durchgehend gute Leistungen. Dennoch ist zu befürchten, dass die Veilchen auch in dieser Saison sehr lange werden zittern müssen. Nach dem fantastischen Saisonstart von Bennet Hundt kommt jetzt Kyan Anderson immer besser in die Gänge. Mit beiden Point Guards gemeinsam wären die Niedersachsen zwar klein, aber dafür mit mächtig Dampf unterwegs.

Beim Sieg gegen Oldenburg startete erstmals Dylan Osetkowski auf der Centerposition und lieferte mit 20 Punkten und acht Rebounds fett ab. Es ist davon auszugehen, dass der Rookie fortan eine größere Rolle spielen wird. Der 23-Jährige könnte die Physis einbringen, die am Brett bislang schmerzlich vermisst wurde. Göttingen fischt die wenigsten Rebounds (30,0) der Liga und nimmt als einziges Team mehr Dreier als Zweier!

Kochs Nachschlag

Alle vermeintlichen Abstiegskandidaten machen drei Kreuze, dass in dieser Spielzeit nur ein Team in den sauren Apfel beißen muss. Aber wer wird es am Ende sein? Es ist noch zu früh für eine belastbare Prognose, aber in Hamburg scheint das Talentlevel am niedrigsten zu sein. Derzeit sind die Schützlinge von Mike Taylor der erste Kandidat – allerdings könnte sich dies ändern, wenn Jorge Gutierrez sich als echter Difference-Maker entpuppt.

Stefan Koch war zwei Jahrzehnte lang Headcoach in der ersten Liga und wurde 2000 und 2005 als Trainer des Jahres ausgezeichnet. Er erreichte mit seinen Teams regelmäßig die Playoffs und trat sieben Mal im Europapokal an. Sechs Mal nahm er am TOP FOUR teil und gewann 2000 mit Frankfurt den Pokal. Zudem war der Hesse drei Mal Headcoach des All-Star-Games.

Awakened during a thunderstorm, youngster David MacLean witnesses a flying saucer disappear underground in the large sandpit behind his home. When his father investigates, he returns a changed man; soon David's mother, a young neighbor girl, and others begin to act in the same way. Begging the police for help, David's panicked story is heard by Dr. Pat Blake, who takes him to astronomer Dr. Stuart Kelston. David soon convinces Kelston, who comes to believe this is an invading vanguard from Mars.

Your Decades of Horror: The Classic Era Grue Crew all prefer the original 1953 version of Invaders from Mars to the Tobe Hooper 1986 remake. Jeff points out the somewhat surreal parts of the score contributed by Mort Glickman, while Joseph describes the kindertrauma he experienced after viewing the “golden head” Martian. Chad seems to be unduly disturbed by the pronunciation of the word “mutants” used in the film.

The 1953 version of Invaders from Mars is definitely worth your time. At this writing, it is available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
