Resume Screening: A Beginner Friendly Guide for Recruiters
Resume screening is a critical step in the recruitment process, playing a pivotal role in identifying suitable candidates for a job opening. Mastering resume screening is essential for recruiters to streamline the hiring process and ensure that the most qualified individuals are selected for further consideration. In this beginner-friendly guide, we will understand the critical aspects of resume screening, providing insights and tips for recruiters to enhance their skills in this crucial aspect of talent acquisition.
Understanding the Purpose of Resume Screening:
Resume screening serves as the initial filter in the recruitment process, enabling recruiters to evaluate a large pool of applicants quickly. The primary goal of resume management software is to identify candidates whose qualifications, skills, and experiences align with the job requirements. Effective screening helps recruiters shortlist candidates efficiently, saving time and resources for the hiring process.
Critical Elements of Resume Screening:
Job Requirements Analysis
Before getting into the resumes, recruiters must clearly understand the job requirements. It involves thoroughly analyzing the skills, qualifications, and experience needed for success in the position. By establishing a solid foundation of what the ideal candidate looks like, recruiters can effectively screen resumes based on these criteria.
Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)
Many organizations use Applicant Tracking Systems or resume management software to manage the influx of resumes. These systems automate the initial screening process by scanning resumes for keywords and specific qualifications. Recruiters should be familiar with ATS and optimize resumes to increase the chances of passing this automated screening.
Effective Keyword Search
Recruiters should perform a targeted keyword search to identify relevant skills and qualifications in resumes. It involves searching for specific terms related to the job, such as technical skills, certifications, and industry-specific jargon. A well-executed keyword search ensures the thorough screening process aligns with the job requirements.
Prioritizing Core Competencies
While assessing resumes with the help of an automated resume screening software, focus on core competencies crucial for success in the role. Look for relevant achievements, projects, and responsibilities demonstrating the candidate's proficiency in critical areas. It helps prioritize candidates with the essential skills needed for the job.
Clear Communication Skills
Effective communication is a vital aspect of most roles. Look for clarity and precision in how candidates present their experiences and achievements. Please pay attention to the structure of their resumes, as well-written and organized documents often reflect strong communication skills.
Relevant Experience and Achievements
Evaluate candidates based on their relevant work experience and notable achievements. Look for quantifiable results and specific contributions to previous employers. It provides insights into a candidate's ability to have a positive effect in the new role.
Cultural Fit
Consider cultural fit by assessing a candidate's values, work style, and personality traits. While technical skills are crucial, a candidate who aligns with the company culture is likelier to thrive and contribute positively to the team.
The Bottom Line:
Mastering the art of resume screening using automated resume screening software is an ongoing process that needs a combination of technical knowledge and a nuanced understanding of the organization's needs. By employing these essential elements and using the resume shortlisting software, recruiters can enhance their ability to identify the most promising candidates, ultimately contributing to a more efficient and successful hiring process. Continually refining screening techniques, staying updated on industry trends, and leveraging technology will empower recruiters to build a strong foundation for successful talent acquisition. — when he stands up for you
Tumblr media
Masterlist.
Ahh this is the first one from these little drabbles I’m posting! I really hope you enjoy these as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them💕
Warnings: none.
Pairing: Bakugou Katsuki x f!reader.
Word Count: 1.3k.
Tumblr media
Recruitment days were always a busy time in Dynamight’s agency. Most of the time Bakugou was lucky and could avoid doing the hiring and firing, his HR department more than happy to take care of the payroll. But looking for new sidekicks was important, and these were interviews that Bakugou wanted to deal with personally. He’d already spent the better part of a fortnight shortlisting candidates, Pro-Hero Red Riot had arrived into the agency to help him go through the shortlist. Although you were unsure whether he was more of a help or a hindrance, as the redhead would give you a bored smile whenever he’d escape to refill his coffee mug.
You’d never seen so many interviews scheduled, all appointments for the day postponed in favour of hiring a new sidekick. Smiling softly as you offered each new up and coming Hero a seat as they waited for their turn to impress the number two Dynamight.
You gave him a small smile each time you’d introduce a new interviewee, laying their file and information down in front of him so he could read through their history.
A few hours later you’d finally managed to work your way down the list of candidates to the last name- a young, cocksure hero with a strength quirk. The standout achievements on his resume was that he’d managed to get his hero license before everyone else in his class, saving a coach full of people from falling to their deaths by bending the girders on a bridge. On paper, he sounded pretty impressive. But face to face—
“Oi, how much longer is he gonna be? I got shit to do.” The man shouted from across the room.
You were sympathetic to him, he’d been waiting about fifteen minutes already and usually Bakugou had prompt timekeeping. But a last minute, unexpected call from Uravity had him delayed.
“He’ll be ready to see you soon, thank you for your patience.” You gave him a warm smile from behind your desk as you continued to type out an email to Red Riot’s agency.
“Why don’t you stop checking your Facebook for five minutes and go let him know I’m waiting.” He rolled his eyes.
“Mr Dynamight knows you’re here.” You clenched your jaw to stop yourself from giving a sarcastic retort.
Who the fuck did this guy think he was? You were already hoping that he wouldn’t get the position, already dreading the prospect of having to work alongside this man.
“If he knew I was here I’d be in there already,” He sighed, “So fucking incompetent.”
“Excuse me?” You were used to dealing with all sorts of irate people as Dynamight’s secretary, but you’d never experienced such attitude from a potential recruit.
“Is it too hard for you to understand, sweetheart?” The man scoffed, “Now hurry up and let him know I’m here.”
You were certain this was going to be the day you lost your job, a slew of angry words on the tip of your tongue as you tried to keep your disposition cheery. But you could feel the corners of your lips drooping down as your brows furrowed in a glare.
“Who do you think you’re talking to?” Your professionalism was slowly morphing into anger as you stood from your chair behind your desk, glaring at the ma n.
“What did you say?” Your head snapped towards the door to Dynamight’s office which was now wide open, your boss stepping out onto the floor as he’d cleverly heard the commotion.
“Dynamight, sir!” The man’s sneer quickly turned into a disingenuous smile as he made his way over to Bakugou in quick strides, reaching his hand out for him to shake, but Bakugou’s gaze remained focused directly into his eyes.
“Is that how you talk to my staff?”
“She wasn’t doing her job—” The young sidekick dropped his hand as he turned to glare at you, “She wouldn’t let you know I was waiting.”
“She,” Bakugou mimicked his tone, “Was doing her job perfectly. With that kind of attitude you’ll never make it as a hero.”
You felt your heart racing as you watched the scene in front of you, swelling with pride that Bakugou was defending you in front of his asshole as you couldn’t help but admire how pretty he looked when he was irate.
“Get out.” Bakugou spoke over the man who was currently talking about his work history, his patience already thin as he walked directly past him and made a beeline for your desk.
You’d never felt so glad that Bakugou was such an excellent judge of character, thankful that you wouldn’t have to deal with a man like that inside the agency each day.
“— I recently finished my work study with Fourth Kind.” He continued.
“One call and no one in this city will hire you,” Bakugou snarled.
The young man looked as though he might cry as his lower lip wobbled, frozen in place as Bakugou crossed his arms over his chest.
“I won’t repeat myself again,” He continued, “Get out.”
You felt vindicated as you watched the man leave, the once cocky persona reduced to nothing as the elevator doors dinged to close. Your entire body felt as though it was on fire from how protective Bakugou had been over you, a heat rising to your cheeks as you avoided eye contact. Afraid you’d give away your feelings for him if you met his gaze.
“Hey,” Bakugou rasped, “You good?”
“I’m okay,” You smiled, “Pretty used to assholes like him.”
“That don’t mean it’s right,” He continued, “Fuckin’ prick.”
“I mean, he was your last interview so at least on the plus side you’re done for the day.” You smiled.
“Let me grab us some coffee and you can help me pick someone.” Bakugou smiled back, already walking towards the machine at the end of the hall.
“I don’t think I’m qualified for that—“ You called out to him.
There was no way you could pick his new sidekick, especially if you picked an annoying one. You’d never hear the end of it.
“You saw the list of people.” Bakugou continued, “And you met them all today, same as me.”
“Well yeah, but—”
“So, it’s settled.” He grinned, checking his watch, “Shit, I didn’t even realise how late it was.”
“Yeah, it’s been a pretty long day.”
“Okay, so new plan.” Bakugou smiled, turning towards you as the coffee machine was still heating up, “Dinner at that little ramen place and you help me pick my new sidekick.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to ask Kiri- Red Riot?”
“I trust you.” He gave you a genuine smile.
The words had you melting beneath his gaze, crimson eyes locking with your own as you felt your knees begin to go weak. Trying to push your feelings for your boss to the back of your mind as you prayed the butterflies would stop fluttering against your ribcage.
“Okay, but you’re paying.” You grinned.
“As if I’d ever let you pay, sweetheart.” Bakugou smiled back.
Tumblr media
If you’d been paying attention you would’ve noticed the way Bakugou stood a little closer to you that night as you walked side by side to the little hole in the wall ramen bar, he’d blame it on the brisk winter air if you asked, but it was really because he wanted to wrap an arm around you to shield you from the biting chill.

THE PHILON AWARDS ARE BACK!
KiScon is honoured to announce the relaunch of the Philon Awards. Established by Jenna Sinclair and Shelley Butler in 1997, they were an annual event organised by The K/S Press to honour outstanding authors and artists in K/S fandom. With the permission and support of Jenna and Shelley, KiScon is resuming this beautiful tradition.
There are 8 categories:
Short fic (word count under 10K)
Long fic (word count 10K-50K)
Novella/novel (word count over 50K)
Podfic
Traditional Art
Digital Art
Poetry
Zines
For each category the voters will determine a Gold (first place) and a Silver (second place) winner.
Rules
Nominating and Voting:
Nominations are open until 31 August, 2023. Each fan can nominate up to 3 works per category, but you cannot nominate the same work twice.
For a work to make it onto the voting ballot, it needs at least 3 nominations. Before we add it to the ballot, we will get in touch with the creator to ask whether they are fine with this!
Voting is open from 10 September to 1 November, 2023.
The winners will be announced during KiScon 2023. Each winner will receive a certificate and a small prize.
Nominating and voting both take place via Google Forms, and you need to be logged in in order to submit the form; this ensures that people do not nominate or vote multiple times for the same work. If we suspect sockpuppet activity, we will get in touch for clarification. We keep the nomination and voting process completely confidential! Only the KiScon concom will see the submitted forms.
You can submit the nominations form only once, but you can edit your responses if you need to add or change something (just follow the link in the email you receive after submitting the form). Please make sure to include every fanwork you want to see on the shortlist. You cannot edit your responses after nominations have closed.
Fanworks:
The work must focus on the pairing Kirk/Spock or Kirk & Spock. Slash (romantic and/or sexual relationship) and gen (friendship) are equally eligible. If a fic includes Kirk and/or Spock in relationships with other characters, be they canonical or original, this does not disqualify the work for the Philon Awards, as long as the focus is clearly on Kirk and Spock's relationship.
Art must feature Kirk or Spock or both of them; additional characters in the artwork are allowed, but no depiction of Kirk/Other or Spock/Other.
All universes are welcome: TOS (series and movies), TAS, and reboot, Discovery and Strange New Worlds. AUs and mirror universe are equally allowed. Crossovers between different Trek franchises or between Trek and other media are permitted, as long as Kirk and Spock are the work’s main characters.
RPF works (e.g. Shatnoy) are not eligible.
All ratings and genres are allowed. If a work among your nominations includes strong elements that would merit a warning on the AO3 (e.g. rape, major character death etc.), we'd appreciate a heads-up on the nominations form, so that we can make sure to include the warning on the shortlist.
The work must be complete. It can be part of a series, but the work itself must not be a WIP (missing chapters or a draft/unfinished sketch).
The work must have been created and published (print or online) after KiScon 2022. So everything from 7 November 2022 onwards until the end of the nomination phase (31 August 2023) is eligible. Reprints or uploads of earlier works (e.g. a fic you wrote and published a few years ago and uploaded to the AO3 only recently) cannot take part in this contest.
For podfic the creation/publication date of the actual podfic counts, not of the written fic that inspired it.
AI-generated fic is NOT allowed.
Traditional art means that it was hand-drawn or hand-painted; scanning or photographing the finished work in order to publish it online is allowed, of course.
With digital art, we mean art that was created by a fan artist directly on a tablet or computer, or art that started out as hand-drawn and underwent significant digital alterations in the next steps. We do NOT allow AI-generated art! Manips based on still images or photos of the actors are not eligible in this contest.
Zines: Both e-zines and print zines published between 7 November 2022 and 31 August 2023 are eligible.
Last but not least: these awards are meant to be fun and a celebration of the K/S fandom. The shortlist will double as lovely rec list! We get to talk about our faves and let the creators know that we love their works.
You can fill in the nominations form embedded on the KiScon website, or (if your device does not display it properly) you can find it directly at this link.

I DID REALLY GOOD IN THE INTERVIEW.
Almost any question I answered, they said "excellent answer", and at the end when i asked if 1. There was anything more they wanted to know and 2. Anything in my interview or resume that'd make them less likely to hire me, they said "no, you did great".
I also found out that only 3 other people made the shortlist, and this interview is for two potential roles, so I have like a 50/50 chance of getting a job. And the interviewers were two women, and they seemed to really like me, so I'm feeling good.
I find out whether I've got the role or not in TWO days.

I've been meaning to get to this all month, so let's do these first 10!
Henshin! A Sentai RPG - I haven't played this one yet, but its on my shortlist of games to run.
Paranoia (Red Mongoose Edition) - I GM'd for this Sunday and we did mission de-brief, which is one of my favorite parts of the game.
Fellowship - I've run one campaign of this and played in two more in the past couple years.
Mouse Guard- Maybe it is cheating to choose a game based off an already gorgeous graphic novel series, but I don't think it is.
Paranoia - The writing in this is just so fun, it's a joy to read and i find myself laughing every time I go back to check anything.
The Quiet Year - I love the quiet year, and try to bring it and run it at a convention. I also played it at my local public library, where three of the people were brand new to TTRPGs, so i saw first-hand how easy it is to learn.
Murders and Acquisitions OR Paranoia - I'm not really sure what this question is supposed to mean so I'm going to take it overly literally. The former has a Resume Form you fill out for character creation, and the latter has a lot of forms you can fill out, such as the Pre-emptive Alibi Declaration Form.
Paranoia RAM deck - I really like all of the cards for Paranoia, but The R A M deck i bought last year is probably my favorite. It has suggestions for things to happen when The Computer Die is rolled, but they all Very Paranoia. Stuff like requiring every character to end whatever they say with "I am not a traitor". My favorite is one that gave every player one minute to draw "A Traitor" and whoever i decide did the best job gets a bonus card.
I'd really like to see some resources to better use physical cards online. Roll20 has a function to upload and create your own deck, but i've found it to be a bit glitchy. There are a few games I play that have some custom cards, and its a little annoying whenever i want to use them.
Capers, Paranoia, Mouse Guard - Capers is a game about 1920s gangsters with super powers, and so would be a blast to watch if done well. A Paranoia show would be great, but I think it might be hard to get the tone right. I'm still salty about the Mouse Guard movie getting canceled.

Cress opened her eyes, feeling the final sweep of a brush across the swell of her cheek. The makeup artist held a mirror up, and Cress pretended to examine herself, hollow smile gracing her lips. In truth, they had done a good job. Her eyes weren't so puffy, the rims of them no longer red. The splotches of her skin had been smoothed, airbrushed away, flawless again. No one would know she'd spent the night crying. No one would know she'd mourned the living -- and the dead.
"Divine! Let's reset. This time, Miller, why don't you put your hands on her stomach? Let's get a tight shot," the photographer chirped, voice bright, cheery with a Capitolite lilt. They'd been at it all morning with hair, and makeup, and wardrobe -- and now they were already thirty minutes into the actual shoot. It was, admittedly, the most Miller has spoken to her since he'd agreed to the task. Or maybe he was talking to the reporters -- the magazine editorial staff who were going to break the news -- and Cress had just been nearby. Another prop in the room.
Either way, she inhaled, glancing at Miller, expression empty and pleasant as the session resumed. The writer, with their notebook and their shiny pen, sat on a stool by the camera, throwing questions out between camera flashes. Cress found they were an easy mark, a good focal point for her eyes with their neon green hair that teetered sky-high like one of Sateen's wigs would.
"Now, tell us, is there a name picked out?” The reporter asked, and Cress shrugged. “Maybe a shortlist for our readers to speculate over?"

Top 10 Benefits of Working with a Finance Recruitment Firm
Tumblr media
In the dynamic world of finance and accounting, securing top-tier talent is more than just filling vacancies; it's about finding professionals who can drive your business to new heights. The stakes are high, and the recruitment process can be intricate and overwhelming. However, partnering with a specialized recruitment firm can transform this challenge into a strategic advantage.
At BJRC Recruiting, we leverage our expertise and extensive network to connect businesses with exceptional finance professionals. Here are the top 10 benefits of working with a finance recruitment firm, demonstrating why this partnership is essential for your success.
1. Access to a Vast Talent Pool
One of the primary benefits of working with a finance recruitment firm is access to an extensive network of qualified candidates. Specialized firms have cultivated relationships with top finance professionals, enabling them to tap into a broad talent pool. This access is particularly valuable in a niche field like finance, where highly skilled candidates are often in high demand and low supply.
2. Industry Expertise
Finance recruitment firms specialize in the finance sector, meaning they have in-depth knowledge of industry trends, salary benchmarks, and the specific skills required for various roles. This expertise allows them to provide valuable insights and advice, ensuring that your recruitment process aligns with the latest industry standards and practices.
3. Time and Cost Efficiency
Recruiting the right talent can be a lengthy and costly process. A finance recruitment firm streamlines this process by handling everything from candidate sourcing to screening and interviewing. This efficiency not only saves time but also reduces the overall cost of recruitment by minimizing the risk of a bad hire.
4. Thorough Screening and Assessment
Recruitment firms conduct rigorous screening and assessment processes to ensure that candidates meet your specific requirements. This includes evaluating technical skills, experience, and cultural fit. By providing a shortlist of pre-vetted candidates, firms save you the hassle of sifting through countless resumes and conducting initial interviews.
5. Faster Hiring Process
In the fast-paced world of finance, filling vacancies quickly is crucial to maintaining operational continuity. Recruitment firms have the resources and networks to expedite the hiring process, often filling roles much faster than in-house recruitment teams. This speed is particularly beneficial for critical positions that require immediate attention.
6. Reduced Hiring Risk
Every hire carries a risk, but partnering with a finance recruitment firm can mitigate this risk. Recruitment firms offer guarantees on their placements, meaning that if a candidate doesn't work out within a specified period, they will find a replacement at no additional cost. This assurance provides peace of mind and protects your investment in new hires.
7. Market Insights and Salary Benchmarking
Understanding current market conditions and salary benchmarks is essential for attracting and retaining top talent. Finance recruitment firms provide valuable market insights, helping you stay competitive regarding compensation and benefits. This knowledge ensures that your offers are attractive to high-caliber candidates.
8. Confidentiality
Sometimes, businesses need to fill roles confidentially, whether for a high-profile position or a strategic new role. Recruitment firms offer the discretion required to manage sensitive recruitment processes without publicizing the vacancy, protecting your company’s interests and reputation.
9. Specialized Recruitment Strategies
Different roles require different recruitment strategies. A finance recruitment firm tailors its approach to the specific needs of each position, whether it's temporary, contract, or permanent. This customized strategy ensures you attract the right candidates for your specific needs.
10. Long-Term Partnership
Working with a finance recruitment firm like BJRC Recruiting fosters a long-term partnership that benefits your organization beyond immediate hiring needs. Firms get to know your company culture, values, and long-term goals, enabling them to consistently provide candidates who are qualified and aligned with your organizational vision.
Finding the right finance and accounting talent is critical to your company's success, but it doesn't have to be daunting. By partnering with a specialized finance recruitment firm like BJRC Recruiting, you gain access to a wealth of benefits, from industry expertise and a vast talent pool to time and cost efficiency.

>|<  The Art of Recruitment  >|<
Let’s discuss “The Art of Recruitment.” This is a topic that is rarely reviewed, and I wanted to do a deep dive, so let’s talk about it!
Recruitment is an essential and crucial aspect of any firm, the process bridges the gap between employers and potential employees, playing a pivotal role in shaping the workforce; and the effectiveness of the recruitment process can significantly impact an organization's success.¹
An Industrial & Organizational Psychologist or (I/O) Practitioner can play a crucial role in recruitment, I/O Practitioners utilize psychological principles and employ research methodologies to enhance productivity, well-being, and the workplace equilibrium between work and personal life.⁶ As I’m evolving into an experienced I/O Psychologist, I’ll be delving deep into the many characteristics of the most effective recruitment process, and how organizations can attract top talent from diverse backgrounds, also technology's role in the recruitment process.
Effective Recruitment Process:
An effective recruitment process is a strategic approach that organization need to use in order to attract, select, and hire the most suitable candidates for open positions; this process is precise, transparent, and inclusive.¹ This process should also be designed to attract a diverse pool of candidates, signaling an organization's commitment to inclusivity.⁴ It must begin with a thorough job analysis, which provides a clear understanding of the job requirements and the ideal candidate profile; now this process typically involves several key stages.¹
Key Stages:¹
Job Analysis: This is the initial step where the requirements of the job and the skills needed to perform it are identified. This type of information is used to create a detailed job description.
Sourcing Candidates: This stage involves advertising the job vacancy to attract potential candidates. This can also be done through various channels, such as job portals, social media, recruitment agencies, etc.
Screening and Selection: At this stage, resumes are reviewed, interviews are conducted, and candidates' skills and suitability for the job are assessed. This process will help to shortlist the most qualified candidates for the job.
Job Offer and Onboarding: Now at this stage, a job offer is made once a candidate is selected. And once the candidate agrees to the offer, the onboarding process commences.
Attracting Diverse Top Talent:
Organizations that are dedicated to diversity and inclusion tend to attract highly skilled individuals from various backgrounds which usually increases the pool of potential candidates.⁴ When an company includes specific cues in recruiting materials that highlights DEI and are openly communicating about their efforts towards maintaining commitment in equity and inclusion, these actions can positively influence candidate based on perceived compatibility with a suitable professional working environment.⁴ Also companies leveraging employer brand personality via social media as opposed to the usual corporate website or career webpage, this is more likely to appeal directly to many qualified talents, not only internally but also externally, allowing engagement of all potential applicants as diverse demographics are represented.² Attracting top talent from diverse backgrounds is more than just filling quotas or being politically correct, overall, attracting top talent will foster varied organizational cultures alongside welcoming work environments which provide the necessary tools for creativity, increase decision-making, and improve company values.³
Technology in recruitment:
We all know that technology plays a necessary role in the ever-evolving modern recruitment process. It can definitely streamline the recruitment process, making it more efficient and effective. Moreover, technology can help organizations facilitate and build a diverse and inclusive workplace culture by supporting unbiased screening and selection processes.³
Conclusion:
To sum things up, it’s imperative that the recruitment process is run efficiently; this creates a strong positive view that will attract highly skilled individuals while building a diverse workforce. Leveraging technology and strategic recruitment practices can ensure organizations remain appealing to potential employees alongside fostering a culture of inclusivity and fairness during recruitment processes.⁵ As a rising I/O Psychologist, it is my role and duty to make sure that corporation/organizations are maintaining fair an equitable hiring practices, and I am looking forward to getting started, however, “My Journey Continues”….. “Tune in next week as we go deeper down the rabbit hole of “Recruitment” RE: Using Technology.”
