STEVESTON VILLAGE PHOTO WALK
… Hello photogs and photography admirers, and a good official, calendrical Summer to you. Enjoying the hot weather? Me, no, not really, as usual.
Okay, it's not been so bad. A while ago, a photog friend convinced me that having a photo walk in June wouldn't be so bad, and that going to Steveston Village would be lovely. And it was; our morning was cool, cloudy, and breezy, and the sun did peek from the clouds to shine on our caps and remind us of the first day of Summer.
We visited Steveston Village, that quaint, historic fishing community where we didn't explore the wharf, the docks, the vessels, or the cannery but rather walked the paths not usually taken by photogs (I think) and explored the streets and alleys. We experienced the local architecture and saw lots of cultural artifacts, so we've photographed things the rest of us have never seen before. Some of us even continued to witness the changing makeup of houses and shops as they've been coming to Steveston Village since they were children. That was cool; to listen to their family stories. As well, the photo amigos and I haven't visited the community in a while, nor Garry Point Park or the Britannia Shipyards, so it was very nice to take in the saline air, touch the clapboard siding, and have a delish lunch of fish and chips with fruity ales.

This is our second time skiing at Whistler with the kids. We love flying into Vancouver because of the yummy Asian food. We flew in at night and stayed in Richmond, just across the bridge from the Airport.
We are happy to finally go to Yue Restaurant for dimsum, having called to make a reservation this time around. Turned out it might not be necessary this time. Check out their heated teapot, unique shrimp rolls with shrimp on top, and perfect shrimp dumplings.
We checked out both fancy Asian Malls like Aberdeen Center with a fun Japanese home goods store...
... and more traditional Supermarket 2000 that felt to Mike and myself like the Asian grocery stores that we grew up with. There's even a store that only sells ginsengs.
There's even a boba row with boba tea shops right next to each other:
Our favorite restaurant in Vancouver, Kingyo, is a Japanese izakaya place with Kobe Beef you cook on a hot rock. They also have yummy sushi, and delicious Tan Tan noodle. And if they have the corn on the cob, be sure to get that!
On the way back from skiing, we ate at Guu Original, which my husband's gone to 15 years ago along with Kingyo. Amazing they kept up the quality of food for so many years. We loved the seafood salad, the perfect uni, and a unique stir-fried udon.
Our last meal we had at Richmond just before we got on the airplane was at Tin Tin Seafood Harbor, which opens at 9am. Besides excellent shrimp dumplings, we enjoyed.
They also have the perfect lava buns.
Next, on to Whistler for skiing.

Minor detail I absolutely love is that after Sam and Jamie make up after the Dubai Air protest, they’re constantly next to each other or grabbing onto each other.
Other fun moments:
Jamie snapping for Sam after he talks about his favorite romcom actress.
Mid-game high fives.
How dare you interrupt my best friend’s special haircut moment.
Sam putting himself in front of Jamie so he doesn’t get hit after picking a fight with the other team.
And, of course, my favorite:
Jamie waiting for Sam so they can leave practice together.
They’re best friends, your honor.
Also, I get the sense that Jamie hasn’t really had a lot of close friends so as soon as Sam forgives him and they become friends, he gets immediately clingy. He’s like this is MY best friend I DO need to be touching him at all times or making sure he knows I love him in some way.
