The misconception that Republicans are “good for the economy” or “good for business” survives among some people despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.
Ron DeSantis’s feud with Disney is going to cost the state roughly $1 billion and will have a ripple effect further down the line.
On Thursday, Mr. Iger and Josh D’Amaro, Disney’s theme park and consumer products chairman, showed that they were not bluffing, pulling the plug on an office complex that was scheduled for construction in Orlando at a cost of roughly $1 billion. It would have brought more than 2,000 Disney jobs to the region, with $120,000 as the average salary, according to an estimate from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.
The project, near Lake Nona Town Center, was supposed to cost $864 million, but recent price estimates have been closer to $1.3 billion. Disney had planned to relocate as many as 2,000 employees from Southern California, including most of a department known as Imagineering, which works with Disney’s movie studios to develop theme park attractions.
If you were a Disney employee in California, would you want to move to the homophobic, book-banning, gerrymandered hellhole which DeSantis is attempting to create in Florida?
Most of the affected employees complained bitterly about having to move — some quit — but Disney held firm, partly because of a Florida tax credit that would have allowed the company to recoup as much as $570 million over 20 years for building and occupying the complex.
Disney felt that despite the tax credits from Florida, it would be a bad move overall.
While Disney, so far is not exactly disinvesting in Florida, it is clearly investing less than anticipated there.
Disney is also in the midst of cutting $5.5 billion in costs as it seeks to improve profitability, pay down debt and restore its dividend. Later on Thursday, for instance, Disney said it would close an underperforming luxury hotel at Disney World. The 100-room property, announced in 2017 and opened last year, simulated a two-night trip on a “Star Wars” spaceship.
Meanwhile, Gov. DeSantis signed a slew of homophobic bills into law on Thursday.

Bob Iger returns as CEO
That’s right, Iger takes over for two more years (as far as I know) as Bob Chapek steps down. So many Disney fans see this as a gropsend, so maybe we should, too.
He was CEO when Phineas and Ferb, Fish Hooks, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, the Tangled series, 2017 DuckTales, the Big Hero 6 series, and every Disney Junior through 2018 got more than 2 seasons. He was also CEO when WOY got the green light back in the early 2010s and when it got unfairly canceled just because the higher ups “didn’t see the need to make more.” Well, now that he’s back, and assuming Craig is not yet given the okay to start production on the PPG revival he’s been developing for a little while (yes, I am aware of his status), we still have a chance at making him fully aware of the show’s unfinished business so he can inform the people in charge of the television branch of the cliffhanger that’s still waiting to be resolved because one more season was planned out.
My curiosity is greater than that of just about everyone, so forgive me for coming off as persistent. Iger just has to realize that not all Disney fans demand more content from Marvel, Star Wars, or anything ubiquitous and that pandering to fans of overappreciated/completed shows isn’t the best option. Some of you might think sending him politely-written letters is a waste of time and effort, but if we do absolutely nothing to make him aware, he’ll continue to assume WOY is better off done after two seasons, which it isn’t, at least to those who saw the cliffhanger.
On another note, I recently found that Gary Marsh, the man responsible for greenlighting/cancelling shows, no longer works for Disney’s television branch. Now it’s Ayo Davis who’s in charge. If you want to make her aware of Wander’s unfinished business, it’s not too late to do so.

Bob Iger Is Back At Disney
But @RobertIger will only be CEO of @Disney for a few years.
Disney reappoints Robert Iger as CEO for the next two years, ousting Bob Chapek.
Iger was CEO of Walt Disney Co. for 15 years before he stepped down in 2020. He will serve with a mandate from the board to select a successor, the company said in a news release. (Washington Post)
Bob Chapek was more or less more concerned about money than the art or artists who made Disney the money.

Wow can't believe Dana mentioned Tragic Youth Robert! Totally wasn't talking about anything else
(The real Sad Boy Bob she's talking about (Bob Iger) is currently part of the gang of robber barons trying to starve and evict striking film and TV workers, and treating people like my sister and me as collatoral damage. Please support the WGA, SAG-AFTRA, and entertainment workers in general as they strive for better conditions!)

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts Says Comcast "More Likely Than Not" To Sell Hulu Stake To Disney
Earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that everything was on the table, with regards to the future of Hulu, and potentially selling it. But following the news that Disney is planning on making Hulu an add-on to Disney+, to provide subscribers with a one-app experience, there has been lots of speculation about Disney buying out Comcast’s remaining 33% stake in Hulu.
This week, during a MoffettNathanson TMT conference, the CEO of Comcast, Brian Roberts has said that it’s “more likely than not” that it would be selling its stake in Hulu to Disney.
“I think it’s more likely than not that we go through with what we said all along. That … they’ll put, we’ll call at the beginning of next year.  I think Disney recognized as anybody else would recognize that Hulu is really valuable”.
He added:
“The fact is that Bob Iger, on his earnings call last week, said that they’re now back interested in general entertainment, which is no surprise,”
