This one was hard to write. The previous day's story was such a failure in my eyes that I scrapped the planned second chapter and almost didn't write anything at all, until I threw this together at the last minute. I liked it quite a lot, in the end.

Here is a spotify playlist of all the music I used, most of which fit the stories or characters in them. They do not flow into each other at all and there's an over-abundance of BRMC (they're my favourite band, shoot me), but these are all songs I really love. Apart from Let it Snow. That's there because I didn't plan any of this.

Final thoughts

Whumpuary2024 is the first month-long challenge I've undertaken, and it was extremely hard and really rewarding. I aimed to average a thousand words a day and blew clear past that most days, and a few times I barely stumbled across the line as beaten and bloodied as the people I was writing about. I'm incredibly glad I did it and I will probably try again next year (though maybe not a prompt a day next time!). Thank you @whumpuary for the fun event and for randomly crossing my dash at a moment when I was feeling creative enough to sign myself up

If anyone made it this far, thank you for reading! I hope you like the stories. It's not a secret that I'm adding a secret 18th story as a follow up to the Wolfwren series, but this is your special confirmation that it'll be out February the first and second

Rookie-Critic's Top 20 Films of 2021: #17 - The Card Counter (dir. Paul Schrader)

Maybe a bit of a wildcard (ha), but Paul Schrader's character study into the life of a card shark with a shadowy past won me over. Oscar Isaac never ceases to amaze me with how much range and skill he possesses as an actor. This movie is just a constant build of tension that, in my opinion, manages to successfully deliver on its promise of something worth all that tension in a way that's much more satisfying than The Power of the Dog's ending. Tiffany Haddish and Tye Sheridan also turn in career-benchmark performances and Robert Levon Been's score/soundtrack is possibly the best of the year. How "Mercy of Man" didn't even get a nomination for Best Original Song is beyond me and the Academy should feel ashamed. Same for Oscar Isaac in the Best Actor category, a category that contained multiple snubs this year.

Score: 9/10

I remember reblogging a Riverdale gifset of the canon bisexual/lesbian relationship characters and tagging it with something like love them but they're so tokenistic and op got mad at me for that. I was always a bit miffed like whatever it's my blog I'm going to put in the tags what I want. Someone just reblogged a photo of Robert Levon Been from BRMC and tagged it with the same sort of 'i hate it but am reblogging anyway' vibe that I did with Riverdale but I can't even be mad at the tags
