Lila and “The Butterfly Effect”

I’ve noticed that every episode with Lila as a prominent character, some kind of butterfly effect is involved in the story (arguably).

In “Daddy Dropoff,” if Bandit hadn’t played wind-up Bingo, Lila and Bingo would have never become lifelong friends. This is implied even moreso with the conversation he and Bluey have about what would happen if he hadn’t played it afterwards. “Probably nothing I suppose.”

In “Pass the Parcel,” if Pat had never been selected to stop the music at Lila’s birthday party, his version of the rules would have never become more popular in the neighborhood/class.

In “Slide,” if Bingo and Lila hadn’t gotten Bandit out of the way of the caterpillar, it would have never gotten the chance to grow into the butterfly we see at the end of the episode.

This last one is quite literal, making me think the writers are aware of this recurring theme of Lila and the Butterfly Effect.

Trigger warning: Mentions of rape and grooming, mild violence.

Synopsis: After a crying Stevie calls Nora, seeking comfort when he finds out about Nova and Lukas affair, Nora decides she needs to step in and attempt to prevent the inevitable from happening. But unsurprisingly, it doesn't exactly go over well for Nora.

Nora paced back and forth in the center of Novas office. Repressing the urge to tear into the extravagant decor and priceless awards hanging on the wall. Her anger only fueled more by her current environment. She pulled out her phone to check the time. Impatiently tapping her foot on the expensive wood flooring. How much longer was she going to have to wait here? Where was he? Nora frustratedly chucked her phone at a wall just as the door to the office opened. Nora whipped around to face Nova who stood in the doorway.

"My secretary mentioned you were waiting for me in here," Nova's voice was a bit ominous as he clicked the door shut as softly as possible. His energy sent a chill up her spine and almost made her question if she still wanted to confront her brother. Still, Nora didn't back down often, and she wasn't going to now.

"Yeah, sorry, I didn’t exactly feel like hanging out there with the blonde bimbo so I just let myself in. I figured we needed to have a talk, since I had a sobbing Stevie on the phone the other day… What do you think you're doing with Luka?" Nora pushed from her chest. Scowling as she crossed her arms. 

Nova pinched the bridge of his nose. Waving her off while crossing the room to his desk. Organizing the papers strewn about. "And here I thought it might’ve been important. If that’s all, you can go." 

The dismissiveness made her scoff in disgust. "Are you serious?" Nora stood her ground, feet planted firmly in place. "You have to know the history between him and Stevie. Do you seriously have to stick yourself in every aspect of his life? Both literally and figuratively?"

There was a hefty sigh from Nova, rolling his neck in a dramatic version of an eye roll. "Why don't you butt out of Stevies personal life and get yourself a girlfriend for once."

“Tch- yeah- so you can go and fuck her too? Or are we waiting on another rape allegation?” 

Nova aggressively slammed his hands down on the mahogany desk. A glare shooting at her from across the room. Despite Nora’s confident stance, he still managed to make her jump. The image of him possibly jumping over the desk to attack her played on repeat in the back of her mind. 

"What do you want from me Nora?"

"I want you to leave them alone! I know what you're doing Nova! It's cruel and despicable. And no matter what you do, you're not going to make Stevie hate Luka. I know you don't know how it feels, but those two are a lot closer than that."

The executive's eyes narrowed at his sister, contemplating how he wanted to respond. Allowing Nora to keep going. He wanted to see where she was taking this.

Nora’s biggest difference from Nova was that she was a hot-headed loudmouth. And that often played to her detriment when it came to Nova who was cold and calculating. Of which,  would prove to come to fruition when Nora kept talking. 

"It really has been 10 years hasn't it? 10 years since Andrews ceremony. 20 since Giovannis." Her voice hissed at him as she leaned over the back of one of the office chairs on the other side of Nova’s desk. "And now you're getting busy because it’s your turn. That's what is, isn't it? You think Stevies perfect to be turned, don’t you? You're trying to make Stevie more malleable for your stupid cult."

"And how would you know what i'm planning, princess?"

"Because I've been there! I remember what it was like to be prepared for your special ceremony!" Nora practically roared at him. Throwing the chair to the side as she seethed with every breath. "I'm not going to sit here and let you rip another sweet boy to shreds!"

The room fell silent for another moment as Nora calmed herself down from yelling at her brother. Shoulders moving with every deep, frustrated breath. “Why, Nova? Why him? There are so many others out there. So many others signed to the label even, that would be willing to participate in your ceremony. Stevie is so soft. And sweet. And gentle. What makes you feel good about ripping something so rare anymore out of someone?” 

Nova stood up straight, fixing his tie and suit. His lip quirked into a snarl at her. Feet gliding across the floor as he walked around the desk to face her nose to nose.

"Why I chose Stevie really isn’t important here… I mean, I won’t be the one ripping into him this time…” Nova snickered, flicking stray hairs out of his eyes. “And I would've thought you'd know all about ruining innocence, you know… Given your history." 

Her face contorted from disgust to rage. Nervously backing up from him as he got too close for comfort. Any time he got close enough to touch her, bad things happened. And this time was likely to be no different. 

Once upon a time, she remembered how gentle Nova could be. How sweet he was when she was hurt or scared. His touch used to comfort her when they were children, a mixture of love and care that combined into a special kind of closeness that no one else could touch. She longed for the brother she once knew when they were growing up. But now, it set off alarms in her head and she stumbled backwards with wide eyes. The motion pulled a rumbling chuckle out of Nova's chest. 

“Yeah that’s what I fuckin’ thought.” His voice turned into something of a predatory purr. Meeting her every step with one of his own. “You’re so cute Nora. You’re so cute, because you always seem to conveniently forget why Stevie got so wrapped around my finger so easily. Rape accusations? Yeah. Perhaps. But at least I own it right? What about you, princess? Where was I when you were touching him, hm? Now surely, that wasn’t all my influence? I wasn’t even in the picture yet. I was too busy getting groomed by our uncle.” Nora was choking on the air she tried to breathe, flinching under Nova’s looming energy. It was enough to make anyone buckle under pressure. Soon she felt the door knob to the entrance of the office pressing into her lower back. Painfully intruding against her spine, as Nova didn’t let up his intense interrogation of her. 

“You want to act all innocent, but you’re no better than I. You want him all for yourself too. You want to act like you just care about his safety but I know better than anyone how fucking obsessed you are with him.” Nova's hand slid to Noras hips and dragged along to the small of her back. Feeling her shiver under his fingertips. Her eyes tightly shut as Nova dipped even closer into her, ridding them of any space left. His lips brushed against the outside of her ear. “Did you think no one heard you touching yourself to the thought of him in the middle of the night. Mewling his name like a desperate fucking whore? Did you think I didn’t hear when you made him suck your cock? And call you mommy?” “Stop it Nova.”

“Or what about the way he cries out for you when he’s had a long day? How he begs for you to make him forget. To fuck his ass and call him puppy. Did you think I didn’t know about all that?” 

Nora forcefully put her hands on Nova’s chest, trying to push him away from her. Though her efforts would be in vain. Tears fell down her cheeks, beginning to panic being entrapped between the door and Nova’s body as he pressed into her even more. Uncomfortable feeling something twitch against her thigh. The sensation of disgust that he was getting turned on by this only intensified her fear. 

“The next time you come in here in an attempt to threaten me about those boys, I want you to remember something--” Nova took this moment to switch hand placements, from the small of Nora’s back to the doorknob that was still digging into her. A quick twist and it opened under the weight of their bodies. Nora falls back onto the ground right outside the entrance to his office. 

“I could ruin your life with one fucking press release.” The door slammed shut, leaving Nora on the ground staring up in complete shock. She covered her eyes as she sobbed silently. Giving herself a moment to gather herself on the floor before pushing herself up to her feet. Wide eyes as she felt around on her person. Checking her pockets.

”fuck… fuck fuck… My phone…” She said in realization. She couldn’t go back in there. Or knock again to get it back after all of that. No, Reluctantly, she whipped around and left as quickly as she could. She would have to retrieve that some way or another, later.

ACGAS S5CS speculation

The S5 finale was set in July 1941, six months before the CS. That’s a fair amount of time. Here is what I suspect we may see.

Having seen some BTS photos from the S5CS, I have this sinking feeling that the most interaction Mrs. Hall has in the CS will be with this new character called Paddy. I’m getting a S3CS Eva vibe. As it is December 1941 and we know Edward was on the HMS Repulse, we will either go into the CS knowing Edward’s fate or having her not know yet. Either way, not the happiest season for our dear Mrs. Hall. Helen and James will be preparing to celebrate Jimmy’s first birthday and possibly welcoming Jenny back as it looked like she was going away earlier in the series. Tris? No idea. I suspect though that Tristan will learn he is doing quite well in his role and will stay put. His luck continuing. I do wonder about the fate of Maggie’s husband, and I wonder if there may be something there for him. And Siegfried? Well, I fully suspect we will either join Siegfried ensconced in a relationship with Ms. Grantley, having followed Tristan’s advice and winning her over. Possibly spending a lot of time at the Grantley estate. He seems quite taken by the adventures she has had. Could she be offering him the opportunity to go with her? Would he be tempted? OR he goes out to the estate on a call and they meet again. She has had time to think, she appreciates his feedback…they both agree they are at a point where they would like to see where things go. Maybe he invites her to dinner but excuses himself as he is needed at Skeldale or , dare I say, invites her to join them for Christmas as she is on her own.

I could see them all ending up at Pumphrey manner to help the recovering troops celebrate Christmas. In the end, Audrey learns Edward’s fate, or commits herself to helping these boys as they return home.

And what of Siegfried and Mrs. Hall? I could see him asking, How are you Audrey? If ever he is to call her Audrey, this would fit. Offering his hand for support. A brief scene where they shine, but I don’t anticipate anything more than that. I think as we head into S6 we will see: James and Helen either discussing anew baby or learning she is expecting again. Tris thankful for his luck and determined to make the most of life. I have this thought of Tris eventually joining the MAG. Siegfried splitting his time between Skeldale and the Grantley estate. Maybe they pursue the story of him becoming the racetrack vet. And Audrey? Either incredibly thankful for a Christmas miracle in learning her son is okay, and committed to doing more or grieving and committed to helping soldiers in memory of her son, that his sacrifice is not in vain. Supported by her community.
