It's official... Pesterquest Rewritten has existed for ONE WHOLE YEAR. (Give or take a few days. I was sick.)

But that leaves the question...

What now?

Well! The short answer is, nothing's changing. I'm still working on the game in my free time, I'm still juggling it against other projects I'm equally passionate about. I took the summer off from working on PQR, but as of a few days ago, I did actually start updating Kanayaroute once again -- the Good Ending is actually pretty close to being finished!

(We're doing the bad ending second, so even though you technically CAN progress to Tavros Route once you beat Kanayaroute, you're gonna still need to wait for the bad end to be finished before we move on.)

And then after Tavros route, that's the halfway mark of the trolls! Six whole volumes done, another six to go -- we'll put something special in between Tavros's route and the next troll's, to help break up the pace. Hopefully that experiment will pay off. :)

In other news, progress on Bonus Route 3 is going nice -- I recently finally fixed all the animations for the currently-implimented dialogue, and @flaringk did art of the first bad end. I'm so thrilled to be working with @megasuperhappyfuntimestuff on it -- it's a blast. :33 (EDIT: AND GEVRENS DAD @ezramire DID THE ART OF GEVREN'S OFFICE!!!! IT'S REALLY GREAT STUFF)

And... Yeah! One whole year of this game. I think I'll give more detailed thoughts on what this all means to me personally elsewhere, but for now I'll just say... Thank you. Thank you to everyone who's played it, who's left comments, who's been supportive. It means the world.

Taking Pesterquest and turning it into a deeply personal story is... risky, but I'm glad it's resonated with so many people. :)

wait wait everybody hold the phone. hold your horses. what if Fozzer is the masterclass player?

There has been speculation for a long while that there is a masterclass player in Hiveswap. The most logical idea would be MSPAR, and i still stand by that claim that MSPAR has a masterclass. but there are two masterclasses, the Lord and the Muse. 

What if Fozzer is a Lord (or more likely a Muse) of Heart?

ive always thought that the masterclass player might be Boldir but... she only needed to be tampered with directly after she started fucking with the fourth wall and travelling into Hiveswap into Pesterquest.

the only thing Fozzer did was dig some holes for fun, and he needed to be entirely rewritten because of how much potential Doc Scratch saw in him.

Sorry to my four followers that all I’m doing is just posting abt Homestuck disk horse, I’m just 👀 because, the biggest thing I have about Homestuck^2 is that the writers cannot pick a lane, and are also just really pretentious, which maybe seems ironic considering I’m gonna go in and waste an hour or two writing this, acting like I’m on some high ground of any kind about writers and their takes on the Homestuck story, but I digress.

My criticisms have been voiced before, and have been done much better by other people, I’m just having a brain moment, it’s the same shit, different day. I also wanna preface this by saying you’re allowed to like Homestuck^2, and you shouldn’t feel bad about it. I have more gripes with the writers more than I do with the story because it’s not the story’s fault that I have problems with it.

That being said, writers claim that content after the ending of Homestuck is not canon, and that the story exists out of canon, and that we can choose to ignore it. But we can’t. Just because you say it’s not canon, doesn’t mean that it’s not canon. When the OFFICIAL writers are writing the OFFICIAL story, it means it’s canon. But they keep saying it’s not when they obviously want it to be.

Furthermore, the writers keep saying that the story is intentionally written to be inflammatory, and that it’s supposed to be bad, and I’m just sitting here, thinking, “Okay, and...????” Because they get so upset when WE get upset. And I don’t understand WHY. So are we supposed to like the purposefully bad content that is meant to make us feel bad, or not ???

I’m gonna bring up some stuff about the timelines. Keep in mind that this is speculation, and that it’s implied, but if it’s not this way, it just goes to show that the writers don’t know what they’re doing because this is literally the only explanation I can think of as to what the takeaway is from the Epilogues and HS^2.

So, even though the general theme of the candy and meat timeline is ( implied ) that they both represent too much of a particular group of story elements ( candy = drama, fluff, fan service, meat = substance, all the intricate details ) and the supposed idea is that the ending will have things get better, as the characters aren’t in control, it doesn’t make me or anyone feel better about it, especially considering it doesn’t make any sense as to why the timeline is split like that. The writers are so caught up in the metaphor and in the meta, that they forgot to write an actual reason as to why it’s happening at all.

Meat and Candy are two timelines which are supposed to eventually be joined together to create a better story, as their representations are, when combined, what make a balanced story. The metaphor is all fine and well, until you run into the problem that is Ult!Dirk, because his influence seems to be primarily locked into the Meat timeline, as he never had control in Candy. Assumably no one did as far as I’m aware. So why is it that Candy, despite it being liberated from any manipulators, is still stuck in an active case of OOC ??? The metaphor shouldn’t be the explanation, because it’s not a valid excuse to explain why the characters are so poorly written. What would make sense is the idea that there’s a third party puppeteering the Candy timeline, but it’s implied once in the writing from what I remember, and the only third party is in Pesterquest where we see the “Director” but I doubt the woman behind the slaughter is messing with the Candy timeline.

So I guess to fit the theme of “pick a fucking lane”, the question here is, “If Candy is supposedly outside of influence of anyone, then why are the characters still so OOC ?” The only answer I can see here, is because the writers wanted the metaphor, even though the metaphor doesn’t have a reason to happen. And for the purpose of argument, let’s entertain the idea that Candy is OOC because it’s considered not canon. Okay, cool. But also, not cool, because Candy isn’t a timeline that’s not supposed to even be written. It’s not canon. It’s not supposed to matter if it’s not canon, but it does, so why is it OOC, which hey ! Also matches the “pick a lane” thing. I suppose it’s similar to how John retcons the timeline, rendering the pre retcon events non-canon. Except, no, because the pre retcon timeline is three things:

1. It’s not a separate timeline like Candy, it’s still one timeline, it’s just John changing things up.

2. The actual events of pre retcon have a direct effect on the post retcon timeline, thus it doesn’t matter if it’s rewritten or non-canon when it has direct influence over the plot.

And 3. It’s characters pre-retcon are still in character, even if you consider it non-canon.

Candy timeline is literally none of these.

There’s also the implication that we don’t have to take it seriously because it’s non canon, but it’s hard not to when you’re writing about important, serious topics.

And I don’t know about you guys, but Homestuck^2 and the Epilogues don’t give me bad fanfic vibes, because at least bad fanfic is funny and entertaining. None of this is, because to me, unlike most bad fanfic, it doesn’t have the same feeling of it being unintentionally bad. A lot of the writing feels like it’s specifically trying to highlight the discomfort.
