super long post of me complaining abt totk irt to my totk playthru bc I <3 Complaining ❤️❤️

maybe its cuz i played like a fuckton during the first week (tho i only have 65 hours total so idk how that compares to the average playerbase) or maybe its cuz ive been playing in an unconventional way, but totk is starting to feel boring to me... (or maybe the game design just sucks..?)

i play unconventionally in that i have disregarded the plot.. bc in botw it was so boring to me. and i watched all the totk cutscenes online anyways and it was as i suspected, i wouldve been disappointed and annoyed if i wasted time collecting all those memories just to get some half-baked story.

im on the fence for doing dungeons tho.. i see my sister doing one, and it does actually look kinda fun, but i worry how satisfying it will actually be, and if i finish the dungeon's boss, will this game's final boss(es) be too easy? (thats what happened in botw.. but maybe ill just do the dungeon and skip the boss? if i can do that?)

i did do the beginning of the gerudo main questline, and it was rly.. boring.... fighting the gibdos was rly boring.. i guess figuring out that mirror puzzle with little help was fun. but it was overall pretty (._.) have yet to enter the dungeon. again idk if i want to

but also another thing is that like its rly rly Really hard for me to gaf abt any npcs in this game LOL.. they just like. say a whole bunch of nothings..... bc like in older games, dialogue helps w worldbuilding since theyre so technologically limited. but in a game like this, you see the world that you get. theres not much that their dialogue adds on, and its only sometimes funny anyways. and i always find myself mashing thru it anyways, bc i just.. dont care.. and also, even if they are saying something supplemental to the world, a useful tip or whatever, its 1.) a teeny tiny tip that i probably could or wouldve learned online or 2.) a mini questline with the most eh reward ever.

i guess cuz in older games you Had to talk to people to figure out what to do next. theres no 'what to do next' in this game so i just.. yeah. im just often unmotivated to know what theyve got to say. of course theyve helped me here and there but its like.. in most games i play, i try to talk to as many npcs i can. but i never feel the need to do this in totk, from either how uninteresting they are, or bc the info they tell me tends to be something i already know.

and my apathy of npcs unfortunately extend to the main quest as well (gorons rito etc), and although i say i wish this game gave me more reasons to talk to npcs, i still end up disliking how totk/botw goes around w it in their main quests; cuz now theres like, a break in the gameplay, where i Must speak to NPCs to advance the 'plot'. my gameplay of exploration, engaging in combat whenever i please, and so on, has to be paused to do this quest. and arguably these quests do provide me the opportunity to explore and whatnot, but its no longer done by Myyyy pace. i have to follow whatever pace and order the game has set for me to do. which Sucks. it really sucks to have a game which im enjoying bc of the freedom, to restrict my freedom like that.

(and this is also why i disliked shrines in the first game.... my regular gameplay gets broken up in order for me to enter shrines (which all look the absolute same as every other one btw, so theres no motivator of 'ohhh i wonder what this shrine looks like?'). and i have to solve the shrine in whatever way its making me to. and obvs some shrines have multiple solutions but more often than not it tends to be limiting.... anyways this is why i deeply prefer shrine quests in the overworld over basic shrines. i much prefer solving puzzles as im exploring as opposed to having to essentially pause my gameplay just to earn hearts and stamina.

in terms of exploration + combat (bc the two go hand in hand).. after getting all the towers, i feel that theres little left for me to do. now that i have a decent amount of hearts and stamina (8 hearts + 1.75 stamina wheels), theres nothing tht really motivates me to do more shrines. the shrines in this game are a lot better than botw's (most of the time), but once ive lost the desire to do shrines as well its a bit.. (._.)

and ive explored most of the west side of the depths, i think roughly 30% overall, but that has gotten a bit boring as well. which is a shame, bc i think its a lot of fun to explore in pitch-black terrain. but as ive said before, it visually stays the same throughout the entire terrain which ends up making it feel very monotonous. same ol grey and purples forever and ever... i wish there was a variety of biomes and landscapes or something (itd be nice if the east looks drastically different but i sincerely doubt it). so far its just grey stretches of land and monster mine camps and maybe the occasional flux construct boss like :/

and combat... ergh... EH.... well just like botw its a blast in the beginning when everything is still hard. but like... all my weapons are pushing 40 atk power now. im like. Ripped. the monsters.. do not reflect this. like firstly u still get those annoying one hit monsters like chuchus, keese, and bokoblins. which is whatever i guess.. annoying but theyre there to spice it up. so whateves. but its when the monster camps still have red monsters like.. what?! even having blue monsters is pushing it honestly. the red ones dies in one hit, and the blues dies in 2-3 hits. black ones are starting to catch up in this regard, but are still a challenge. but there just isnt enough silver ones which ideally should be spawning at this point...

its come to a point where i just end up ignoring most monster camps, bc the reward drops just aren't very good either. like i do not explore in a conventional order, so im already stacked with royal gear. i do not need traveller sword #5. and the game has not adapted with that. i wish it did, bc man the game is getting boring 😮‍💨

there is more to say. maybe ill be more coherent after i get off my bed LOL. but yeah totk still has the same issues as totk which is... erm. not great

i almost went up 3 years on school. i should have graduated high school at 15 and college at 19, but here i am at almost 20 having a middle age crisis because i didnd accomplished anything in life (im not planning on living past my late 30s so 20 is middle age for me), i could have been so much more but im just wasting away on a shitty-good-for-nothing online college. it doesnt matter that i speak portuguese and english and am learning french and russian, or that i've read charles darwin just for fun, all that is useless and mean nothing when im trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life.

my therapist told me to think about my future for my next session, but that bitch doesn seen to understend that if i could think ofanything for the past 2 years , i simply wont discover a solution to all my problems in a week

i cant even kill myself because i have a fucking cat that i love more than anything and that would think i abandoned him. he likes to cuddle with his face on my hair and only accepts to get picked up like a baby with his head on my shoulder. i have to separate him him from the other cats when feeding them because he has an allergy and his food is different. i also have another cat that i love just as much, but hes kinda untisocial and doesnt depends on me a lot.

I kinda keep wondering when I'm allowed to be angry or upset about things people do to me, or things people leave me with

They're my own feelings to deal with at the end of the day since I'm used to being abandoned by a lot of people, which hits differently than the kind of distance I'm used to manifested from a lack of regular communication wherein I can reconnect at a later date. that's a different demon though, not here to talk about that one while I stand on this little crate I stole from the market

tbh the first person I tried talking to about this assumed me being upset was directed at the person, and they made me feel like I was overreacting, but I was more hurt by the situation than anything, I get that people figure themselves out whenever, I'm not throwing blame, but all that build up, getting a green light, immediate silence, and then a shutdown afterwards and tbh I would've just preferred getting rejected from the get go because maybe I wouldn't still be sitting on it. which left me wondering if I'm allowed to be upset, and can I do that?

of course talking to other people about it and saying I'm allowed to be upset helped a little, but then I'm kinda reviewing all the build-up by myself, and I'm stewing, trying to find where things went awry so I can avoid them next time next time next time, always avoidance, always trying to be better for others but not better for me and that's!!! A problem!!!!!

like this is the exact type of instance I didn't want to be caught up in and I thought saying as little about myself as possible would prevent that from happening, like, if people don't know who I am maybe they'll be less willing to kinda dump everything on me whenever they're having a bad time, ya know who would want to tell all their shit to a stranger online, new friend or not? but I think my need to be helpful and my need to always have a solution to a problem opens that door for people anyway

And I think my younger fear of not wanting to be wrong just morphed into "needing to have a solution/explanation for everything" even the small slights that I don't really fester on because what I find malicious is not going to be the same as everyone else. Giving advice once is one thing, twice is another, always trying to have advice on hand busts the info dumping door wide open whether or not I've said anything about myself. In fact saying nothing about myself seems to give the implication that I have nothing going on, so there's more incentive to just tell me everything and I'm experiencing this in real time at work with a coworker who will NOT shut up

and I allow myself to be annoyed(dramatics sometimes included) but angry and upset is constantly put a stone's throw away like I don't have the right unless it's a big injustice or because someone is nice, or because I care about that person, or even because I like that person, and that's a different kind of unhealthy as with that last one I'm still figuring out how much I'm letting my boundaries bend and move to accommodate as well as wondering if I'm doing the same to their boundaries while hoping that I'm not

since this keeps fucking happening to me, of people seeing this sign over my head that reads "trauma dump" I kinda wonder if I should just take all of it as a red flag no matter the circumstances, close myself off from new people I meet, stop giving advice when they start coming to me for everything because when it more specifically comes to people I care for or people I might like, I'll often realize the playing field is uneven, that I've said as little about myself as I can get away with, that I've made myself a stranger but not, an attractive prospect of being helpful without many problems of their own

And tbh I don't have a lot of problems, usually a lot of shit happens around me all at the same time, and when it happens to my family theres that depression induced emotional distance that doesn't make it feel real until I talk about, of course at this point multiple things are happening at once so to suddenly go from 0 issues to 56.5 issues, all temporary but nonetheless weighted, literally wrecks that image I put up from never talking about myself prior. I get that I'm a lot to handle, that I'm annoying, kinda clingy, loud, in real life I've been called intimidating or hard to read, but I view myself more as a wannabe know-it-all, yet I don't think these things make me hard to like, I think hiding these things make me hard to like

I think hiding myself isn't the greatest decision, I think if people who started to get close to me knew or could see that I also get messed up that maybe they wouldn't try and tell me freaking everything only for me to misconstrue that info dumping for a certain kind of connection. I think if people questioned their ability to afford the same treatment I give them for their hurt by understanding that I need it too by previous experience of me opening up more that this would happen a lot less.

I don't know if me being a wannabe know-it-all is a stage in my twenties or a permanent personality trait, I think I'll still give advice but I hope I can get better about setting my boundaries and keeping them for what I'm willing to listen to or put out emotional labor for because I don't think I ever want to stop being compassionate to other people new or old

does anyone else with adhd have major difficulty learning things without someone to teach them?

I have so, so much trouble teaching myself things on my own; even with tutorial videos and reference blogs, I just get so overwhelmed and lost and I can hardly retain any of it. it seems to go in one ear and out the other and I cant put any of it into practice.

I dont ever really talk about this because it makes me feel stupid and hopeless. everyone else seems to be learning languages and sciences and arts and history online, but I cant manage to read a full blog post, even on topics I'm interested in. and the barriers of entry to having actual teaches tend to be "prove that you are already good enough at the thing that you deserve to be taught" or just astounding amounts of money, usually both. even if this is an adhd thing, I always figure theres not another solution.

I really want to be able to learn things without a person standing next to me and teaching me. people keep responding to "I dont know how to do this" with "just look at this list of tutorials and guides!" which...doesnt really help. I dont know how to teach myself. I dont know how to be my own school.

Reflection

This 10 weeks have been very interesting because of this course. I feel that i learn so much in the 3 months i’ve been in this class. From learning how to make engineering drawings, to drawing perspectives and even 3d printing — something that seemed so daunting to me at the start, this course taught me so many practical skills that i can apply in myother courses, amd hopefully in my work as a designer in the future.

While i must say, many of the tasks given have been really difficult for me to complete, i am glad to say that I faced each task with the same will and determination that i will complete was is required of me. Not just done, but done as well as i could. I tried to assess every piece of work i submitted with an analytical mindest, always trying to see what improvements i could make to my work.

Eventually, I realized that i overcame some of my phobias, including my fear of hi-tech computer programs that i can’t imagine myself understanding. 3d rendering used to be such a foreign concept, something that I couldn’t see myself touching, or even accomplishing. But at the end of 10 weeks, i have so much more confidence in myself and my abilities, i know i can do it. If i have any concerns, theres always a solution that can be found online, through tutorials, or by asking friends.

Besides the more technologically related stuff, my drawing abilities have definitely improved too. I now know how to represent my work better, and in a way that factories or clients would understand how to interpret it and produce it. It no longer looks like a child’s drawing or a design that seems impossible to create. With my newfound skills, i can turn my imagination into something physical.

The use of tumblr has also, very surprisingly, taught me a few things. I learnt how to organise my thoughts and how to record my thinking/designing process. This helps very much when im trying to figure out what i did wrong or what i could do to make my work better. As someone that is always super critical about my work, by analyzing and judging my work without any bias, i can see the flaws and the improvements i have to make. But more importantly, i can see what i did well. I can recognise the effort i put into my work, and the beauty in the things that i create. It feels great.

The course has been very beneficial in making me understand the basics of being a designer. Even though i feel like i missed out on more information and tips as the course is online, i definitely learnt so much more from this course than i would have learnt on my own. I’m very thankful for the opportunity to learn, and the guidance given to me from my tutors, Rob and Miles. This has been an amazing journey, and i wonder just how much more i would have learnt, had we had the opportunity to have offline classes.

50 Ways To Be A Better Boyfriend

1. I may hang out with your friends like one of the guys or play video games like one of the guys, but I am not one of the guys. I am your girlfriend. Give me attention outside of hanging with your friends, do things with me other than what you like to do with your friends, and spend quality time with me away from your friends. Otherwise, it makes us feel like we’re just a nuisance to you. I get that communication is a learned skill that requires experience. In short- encouraging & practicing open, honest, and respectful communication on both sides.

28. Don’t lie or hide things from her. She knows, she always knows because she knows you so well she can tell when you are being shifty. Just be open and honest and vulnerable. She will love you the more for it.

29. When you’re in the store, don’t call and ask what to bring. Hopefully you have paid attention and know what she likes/what the household needs and just bring that. 35. I’m a big believer in equity theory. Do as much for her as she does for you! 36. My husband sends me little gifs online when he sees one that he thinks I’d like. It always makes me smile because he was thinking about me enough to find something I’d smile at and send it.

I’m not saying not arguing ever is normal, but it definitely isn’t normal when people yell and cuss as a communicative norm.

49. Just take a moment to reflect on what conversations you’re having and what you’re bringing to them. I know there’s this idea that your partner is the person you can vent to but is that all you’re doing? Try to be mindful that your partner also has difficult times; are you as available to listen to them as they are for you? Do all (or even most) of your conversations turn into a back and forth of complaints about work/traffic/etc.? Are those complaints really worth the time you’re dedicating to them?

I recently suggested to my boyfriend that, hey, let’s make the bed a no-complaining zone. I brought it up because every single night I would find myself just laying in the dark rolling my eyes as he went on and on about the same issues with the same coworkers every single night. Even nights when he didn’t work would end up this way.

Now we have a rule of “if this is really something that you want to talk about right this moment, we’ll go sit on the sofa and talk.” It gives you a moment to just consider if it’s really that big of an issue or not. What he’s found is that usually it’s not worth it, and I’ve seen a positive change in him. He seems happier now that he’s not dwelling on small stuff.

The Times, They Are A Changing...

Today's update is brought to you from Hanoi, Vietnam, where I am anxiously awaiting the late night arrival of my dear friend Channa! Channa is a former lab partner turned great friend (though she put up a valiant effort to remain work proximity associates forever), and our schedules didnt allow each other to get together while I was home over Christmas. Apparently she had to go to the Caribbean or something appalling like that! So, were going to make up for lost time while she's here. And, nearly equally as exciting, she will be bringing me my new debit card! I am less than 24 hours away from being able to access cash, which is great because I am down to less than the equivalent of 20 USD. I decided to spend a few of my precious dollars (dongs) on laundry because that situation was beyond dire, so that card cant come soon enough!

In my previous update, I alluded to some big changes coming my way. Now that the major details have been worked out, I figured I would share with you all. One, because thats the entire point of the blog (if I was just hashing out my feelings here you would be horrified), and two, because my new opportunity presents you all, or anyone you know, with an opportunity as well! Let me explain...

I cant even begin to describe the changes that have been happening to me over the last 6+ months. My entire mindset has been altered, and I mean that in the best way possible. I am so, so pleased with where Im at in life, and the decisions Ive made that have gotten me here. Ive been loving this life of travel and adventure, and feel so grateful to have been given (/earned myself) this opportunity. With that being said, in the last month or so my thoughts around travel began to shift. Skipping my flight to Australia gave me the chance to see Asia (so great!) but it also completely changed my plans for volunteering. I got caught in the trap of "tourism travel" (traveling with no purpose other than to see new places), which is great in the short term but is absolutely not sustainable. Tourism travel involves a LOT of partying. Sounds fun, and it is, but only for so long. I missed having a purpose. I found myself spending extra money to avoid hostels, which I normally love. I felt overwhelmed with the constant need to move around, because you cant justify staying in one place for a month when youre shelling out for your own accommodations. Making a decision on where to eat each meal became a burden. And I realized: I’m burnt out.

I needed a break. So I ran through my options: Option 1: Quit traveling, go home, and get a real job. Nope. I dont think I need to explain why. Option 2: Continue traveling and push through. Get back into volunteering. This one was a possibility. Option 3: Take a small break in a place that feels comfortable, get my head back on straight, then continue. Also possible.

The factor not discussed here is the upcoming event of my 30th birthday. I LOVE birthdays. Mine, yours, everyone's! And this is a big one. Its a new decade, and its my first birthday where I am 100% free and fully immersed in this new life I so painstakingly built for myself. Which brought me to option 3, which led me to option 4 (which I did not know existed).

I reached out to a good friend. He is sailing around the world, and our paths crossed while we were both in Bocas del Toro. I told him about my burnout, and about my birthday, and that I just really didnt know what to do. I asked if maybe I could come down to the boat for a little while, spend my birthday in the Caribbean, and just take some time to relax and get my head back on straight. He said of course, and then threw me a curveball: Around the time I planned on arriving, he planned to start chartering his boat in San Blas. And he needed another person to help out. Someone who could cook, clean, and entertain. And it was a paying gig.

As soon as I heard this, I knew it was the perfect solution. I felt such a sense of relief that some stability and purpose was coming my way. I LOVE cooking. I LOVE entertaining. And I am at least capable of cleaning. I hope. Plus... I get to live on a yacht in one of the most beautiful places on earth. So I accepted.

What does this mean for you? Well, duh, youre invited! Were open for business sooner than you can plan a trip. I will cook you great food, we will drink great drinks, and we can show you one of the most beautiful places in the world. We can snorkel, dive, fish, or just relax on the beach. Im really excited for this new adventure, and also to wrap up my time in Asia in the best of company. Im not intelligent at all. In the conventional sense. The ramblings of a girl who just has sooo much going in in her head it's constant. But im not a genius. Or that confusing.

It just sounds like I am bc fandoms have this issue where they can JUSTSO point out the issues in soletiing. They can pick and prod and go oh problematic! But then you go to name the problems and the difficulties within society like for ex: the idea of representation in general. Salivating over it. How fucking sad that is. How we are trained to accept it. So in a BL and also RACE in the bl genre they exploit viewers naivete both domestically and internationally. Ive seen tons of people liken being asian to being a person of color. However, in their predominantly homogenous society (or intentionally publically homogenous society), they are not "poc" (also name the of color; i dont use bipoc idc if u do but it's called being asian guys cos yall aint talkin about black ppl lmao)

They as humans seeing other humans who look like them everywhere, engage with the world differently than an american in asia or asians living outside of their home country (like bae doo nanwhen she worksnin the US is not the same as the bae doo nanworking on a korean program) I dont complain about it in everything i see bc ppl say it ALL THE TIME. but it is NOT the same. Being a person of color is very distinctly an american concept. This is all stuff people will get to know on their own if they choose to dig more.

I know this is a complaint that I am not alone in. I know it's the internet. I just don't get how people can write really heavy analysis but they refuse to actually probe the underlying issues. Not everyone is me, or like my friends, but if there's way fewer people talking about this stuff it seems absolutely glaring when theres few people engaging in the way i do. People bringing up thai actors snd actresses leaving the industry and doing acting as something quick. As an artist~ who went to film school with insanely wealthy ppl and isnin tons of debt you have to understand how shitty that is. People have monetary access and they just fucking do whatever just because they want to. Meanwhile you have young people being coerced into this bullshit mainstream life to LITERALY just make money bc they dont come from a rich background. The wealth gap in thailand is BAD, theres a dictatorship, they had a fucking coup. The governments like here do not respect their people. Their marginalized groups. No nothing can be perfect but if it's going into our eyeballs and we can view the worlld critically then why the fuck not!???

Idk im sorry. I dont see how i can change how i view things. I really wish people would expand their palettes too and go deeper into other means of art from places! Things not in the mainstream! Theres a lot of good thai artists and a lot of them critical as fuck about their country as they should be. Authority, austerity, patriarchy, capital, racism etc like that is central to a power thats interested in growing gains and fiscal and social power. Theres rly radical or left leaning etc ppl out there in the world and these countries in these communities. So they exist. No people in these countries dont have NO clue whats going on. Cultural relativism is alsos something people should understand. I had a good talk with ppl on here a while ago about that. Talking about shit, critiquing, but being respectful to a group. Part of thay is realizing these groups CLEARLY know their own issues and all our cultures share the same goal. Guess what it is. It rhymes with acquiring wealth. Money means you hurt people. In the post, we talked about use of "wife" and "husband" which is a stupid joke that has been "explained" a billion times and yet the explanations still dont seem to answer or justify a minor problem (it's very funny to me that a language that doesnt have gendered pronouns is now very specific about two men. Hmmm wonder why. It is annoying.)

So im not the only person on the planet doing this. Or the few ppl ive seen that do. Im not new my thoughts arent new. Ive gotten to see another side to a culture i knew not much about and that means i can put the context of my beliefs and life and try and understand thheirs. For ex i learned from ITSAY because of a sign that said 'french food' that they were the only country to not be colonized back then. Do you know how integral that history is to their region? That was an interesting detail (i didnt finish itsay bc ihad a lot going on and i was rly upset that i would see hownrich they are and i hate that.)

Anyways thats my complaint. It used to feel like a sting of rejection. I left online for months in 2019, i started organizing more, joined a union, trying to do some panther work shit like that. I learned a lot in those months and it changed my life! But when I came back, I felt so isolated. It wasnt my true friends tho sometimes theyre ANNOYINGGGGG (love u) but it was me being like "if we are going to complain guys then lets put our money where our mouth is" lets be fucking serious about it then. No say it with your chest dude. It isnt difficult. Go with the fucking flow, talk about it, critique it, think. You can still fucking like itnor love it.

I am BLACK ok and i love rap. I am a black woman. I will continue to clown black men that cant seem to not clown themselves and listen. Insecurities in general but some shallow thoughts (?) on discussion in "fandom" space. FYI, this will most likely stay the same. I tend to stay in my own bubble socially IE me and my friends are similar in our views. During this awful year while running my union's account, im surrounded by like minds. Me and my friends? I dont believe in solutions because the solution is to abolish capital or just divest. However with technology and stuff this puts another layer onto things. Tech, social media, this shit....it THRIIIIIIIVESSSSSSS off of conflict and shallow readings of the world. We are literally primed for it. Engagement in bites. Impossible for me with my brain; i got used to it and i paid for it by limiting my scope. In regards to my sad dumb brain

I remember reading some essay from Tolstoy where he was describing his existential crisis, and he said that academic smarty-pants types seemed to be a lot more depressed than the regular, lower class working people. He figured that the working class people were able to be content in conditions far worse than the academics because they were simple minded and had a lot of faith in God. He theorized that their internal monologue must be something like: Doesnt matter if life sucks because its all part of Gods Plan, and il go to heaven when i die so it wont be as shitty as this life on earth. His answer, he thought, was to seek faith (even though he said it was illogical) to create meaning in ones life and not want to kill yourself.

Now this isnt so much to do with the religion aspect, but it feels like he implies that dumb people dont suffer as deeply as smart people. So, im a fucking dumbass, why do i feel like killing myself?

Im certainly no academic, my school performance is not very good, and im pretty sure im dumb. I know that performance in school isnt indicative of someones intelligence, at least that seems to be the the common consensus nowadays, but i feel like it can at least give a general idea of how smart someone is. Its the best tool we have to sorta measure someones abilities.

Usually, when a smart person sucks at school, their intelligence is clearly displayed in some other aspect with something that interests them. Ive met a lot of people like this, where they just cant do school, but even just speaking with them you can tell theres something special goin on in their head. And if not, it doesnt take long to find out they are absolutely amazing at something. Lots of people, not just smart people, have things they are very proficient and knowledgeable about. Not just lots, most people do. I do not.

I am mediocre in school and flat out disappointing in real life. Unlike most other people, my greatest asset is my mediocre school performance. Thats all i have going for me. So, im not smart, odds are im at least a bit below average IQ (if you believe in that sort of thing, that is. i dont really, but it still is the only thing i really know about to generally measure these sorts of things). Then, if one's capacity of depression is proportional to how smart one is, why do i want to die?

Well, there could be multiple reasons:

1. The deepness of ones depression is not proportional to intelligence

2. The required amount of depression to have the desire to kill one's self is low, so a Smart Depression will have a stronger desire to die

3. Im not dumb (the least likely reason)

To me, it makes sense that a simple minded person will have a simple depression. A depression about some specific things, or a general non-suicidal sadness. I may have depression about certain, easily identifiable things, but it does not make it any easier.

After typing out this post, it seems pretty clear that this idea is Gatekeeping depression. Saying that someone shouldnt have the mental capacity to want to kill themselves sounds very elitist. So i wonder why i wanted it to be true? If it were, i guess i wouldnt have to desire to die, which would be nice. I am simple minded, but my depression does not seem to have a simple answer. Or perhaps it does, but, for some reason, a simple solution is being jumbled up so that it is invisible to me. I could also be too stupid to see a clear solution.

When i read my own post, i think the most striking critique from another person would be this: "you're dumb for reasons you dont even know about". I think it hurts the most because it would mean the reason im stupid is because of my own way of thinking and how i investigate my own ideas. So far up my ass that i cannot see the problems in me that are clearly read by anyone else.

This idea originally came to me after reading something online. In the comment, the user said that "academic achievement and acceleration should not be confused with intelligence. It mostly has to do with the fire in one's belly". I thought it was an agreeable and pretty safe opinion, until i read the comment that followed: "if we're not going to call that intelligence, then what is?" It made me realize that my idea of intelligence was not practical. I had transformed the concept of intelligence into something that was useless, because it was so vague. The way i was looking at intelligence would just mean that everyone is intelligent and above average. Thats not really a useful way of thinking about it if it describes everyone, is it?

The real problem, I think, is a huge emphasis I have on intelligence. Whether its due to our culture focusing in on it or whatever, i dont know, but its clear that my thoughts on it show an insecurity. I feel like i have to prove my worth to other people, and that the only way to be deemed worthy is to demonstrate intelligence. I cant demonstrate that. It frustrates me, and makes me feel worthless. If i cant do calculus, do i really have anything to contribute at all? These are things I need to unpack, and it definitely implies that I think artists and social scientists have less worth, which is awful. Even then I am reminded that for most humanities majors, calc 1 and statistics must be passed.

In conclusion: nothing, really. I was wrong, probably. Im still a dumb bitcj and i want to die.

further down the road

I feel like any blog or journal I’ve ever had has a significant amount of posts or entries that begin with some sort of reference to the concept that I don’t write in them/post to them nearly as much as I would like to/intended to.

I also feel like I use the construction “I feel like...” a lot.

At this point, I’m 2.5 months into HRT, which consists of solely taking estrogen in pill form, without t-blockers.  The first four to six weeks left me feeling fairly disappointed, as not only was I not feeling as much as I would have hoped or expected... I wasn’t feeling ANYTHING.  After speaking with my therapist, it turns out the the dosage I was started on was EXTREMELY low, even by the most conservative standards, most especially considering I wasn’t utilizing t-blockers.  I was started on 2mg a day, and according to my therapist, a more standard starting dosage for someone in my position he would have estimated to be closer to 4-6mg per day.  Of course I wasn’t feeling anything.  Pissing in the ocean.

I messaged my doctor through the nifty online portal thingy to let her know that although I had an upcoming appointment, I also needed to go in to get my prescription refilled, and I was hoping she could up my dosage based on some personal research I had been doing and the the fact that I wasn’t feeling any sort of difference or effect.  

Fortunately, she obliged, and pushed my appointment out a month or two further down the road, which was ALSO helpful because over the course of this period, I ALSO learned that my insurance is NOT helping me out nearly as much as I was hoping they would, and every time I go in to see this doctor that doesn’t really know what she’s doing and is handling my case like she worried she’s going to break me, it costs me about 500-700 out of pocket. 

I’m still trying to figure out how to handle that, how exactly to work that out.  Maybe next time I go in, I’ll see about what the absolute least I could possibly go in would be, and discuss the fact that I can’t sustain those kind of medical bills, and that I might need to find another solution if there’s no way around it.

At the end of the day, at least at this point in time, I’m happy with my dosage and I don’t have any concerns of any kind, so if she’s happy to “be my doctor,” but that her only duties therein would be refilling my prescription every few months, that we can rock it like that, no problem.  This seemed like a cool solution because she was going to serve as my primary care and kind of just become my all around doctor, but there’s no way I’m gonna go in to see this bitch every time my throat hurts at 500 per visit.

I keep mentally checking in with myself, and of course, those that know what I’m going through keep asking how I’m feeling.

“Great!” I tell them, and I mean it.  But I can’t really talk about specifically why.  It’s a general sense of ease and clarity that I can’t really pin down and, frankly, can’t specifically attribute to the estrogen itself, either.  But I’ve gotten to a place where I don’t think that’s really the point, and I don’t think that really matters.  It’s more about this new space that I’ve created by deciding to embark on this journey, and by following through with my decision.  There’s this new safe space, this new home, that I’ve created for myself that collects all the thoughts and moments that have to do with self-love, self-actualization, self-identification, self-expression... just all the good, warm SELF stuff... that all kind of ends up getting tied to or at least abstractly related to and synonymous with gender and gender exploration in my spirit.

I can say that I feel a new sense of relief.  I can say that I am seeing with a new clarity.  I can say that what used to feel like fighting a battle uphill, or with my hands tied behind my back, or hindered in some way, now feels more levelled out.  I now feel unencumbered by a sloggy haze that used to get in the way of how I was perceiving and navigating life.

Whether this is specifically, physiologically effect of the estrogen, I don’t know, and like I said, truly believe doesn’t matter to me.  What’s important, what I’m thankful for, is the fact that I found this thing that is helping me continue to find and BE the truest version of myself that I can possibly be, and of course, in that, it will all become a cascading, domino effect of this changing that, and so on.

I know that I’m familiar with the feeling of “I’m not getting enough, this isn’t making a difference.”  Now I don’t feel that way.  I feel like I don’t want MORE, either.  I feel like I don’t know where this is going to ultimately lead me, but that uncertainty doesn’t even for a minute make me wanna stop or slow down.

My nipples have starting hurting, and I can feel the buds of breast development starting.  I wouldn’t say it’s noticeable at this point, but it has got me thinking about how I feel about breast development, and again I say, I don’t really know.  I don’t know what to expect, I don’t know where it’s going to lead.... I’d say if it was just me myself and I, and I was only considering my own, internal thoughts and feelings about it, it wouldn’t bother me.  I might even be a little excited about it, I’m not sure.  Any hesitation or trepidation I feel about it is directly tied to the anxiety surrounding what other people are going to think, are people going to notice, how am I going to navigate and explain to people, etc.

But again, any anxiety or hesitation I feel is not enough to make me want to stop.

So here we go.  Further down the road.

(Mom has some sort of cognitive disability that includes memory loss, but which the doctors have been unable to diagnose.) For the past seven years, Mom has lived at Happy Acres in a comfortable apartment with her cat (Bonnie) and her television. When I see her, I often ask if theres anything more she needs or wants. She assures me that this is all she needs to be happy.

At this point, Mom struggles with routine personal hygiene, so theres no way she can take care of tasks like signing up for Social Security or taking withdrawals from her retirement accounts. As her sons, thats now our job. (And were happy to do it.) You might think that this process would be easy but youd be wrong. I suspect that in most cases, getting retirement benefits started is easy, but its much less so in our situation. In March, about a month before Moms birthday, I spent an afternoon at the local Social Security office. I took all of the documentation that I could gather. I arrived to find the waiting room was packed with other folks applying for benefits. It was standing-room only. Rather than get frustrated, I sighed and resigned myself to waiting. And wait, I did. I waited for two hours before my number was called. (It was all fine, though. I spent the time absorbed in a good book.) When my turn came, I sat at the desk and talked to the clerk. Im here to apply for Social Security benefits for my mother, I said. Is your mother with you? the clerk asked. No, I said. But I have Power of Attorney. I pulled out the paperwork to offer proof. The clerk waved her hand and shook her head. The Social Security Administration does not recognize Powers of Attorney, she told me. To conduct business on your mothers behalf, you must be a designated representative, a legal guardian. What does that mean? I asked. For all practical purposes, it means you probably should make an appointment to bring your mother in with you. Thats going to be the easiest thing to do. Okay, I said. But shes not really going to be able to carry on a conversation or to make an informed decision about anything. Still, lets make an appointment. Even if shes not mentally fit, she has to be the one who applies in person, the clerk said. She clicked at her keyboard, searching for appointment times. Im sorry, but we dont have any appointments available. I was puzzled. Let me get this straight. Mom has to apply in person. To apply in person, we have to make an appointment. But there are no appointments available? Well, there three other options, the clerk said. She can do what you did today and wait in the lobby. She can call each morning to see if there are any cancellations. Or she can apply online. However, she has to apply herself. You cant fill out the application for her. Ill admit that I was both baffled and a little steamed. Shes not able to fill out the application herself. Shes not capable, I said. I dont think its a good idea to have her wait here with me for two hours as a drop-in. And calling the day-of to get an appointment is problematic. It would take roughly three hours from the time I called in order to get her here. The clerk shrugged. I dont know what to tell you, she said. Those are your three options. Skirting the Law When I returned home, I called my brother to explain the situation. I feel like theres no way we can get this done, I said, unless we fudge things a little. What do you mean? he said. Well, theres no way for Mom to complete the application hereself, right? Legally, shes required to. But what if we completed it for her while shes in the room? Im okay with that, Jeff said. And thats what we did: Jeff and I sat with Mom and worked through the online Social Security benefits application. Much of the application asked for standard stuff, such as age, mailing address, and so on. It was easy for us to answer those questions. But some of the questions required sleuthing. At first, he directed his questions to Mom (as he should have), but when it became clear that Mom couldnt answer for herself, he addressed me instead. We want to get her set up in the system so that she receives everything shes due. The clerk interviewed us for about twenty minutes. The next time I see that Mom is having a lucid day, I want to ask her what we can buy her to improve her life. She says shes content sitting in front of the television with a cat in her lap, but I feel like there must be something more we can do for her. Maybe get her a second and third cat? Maybe get her a super-deluxe television? Or how about buying a fancy chair with built-in massage? Mom has some money now. Itd be awesome to use that money to give her a better life. Important footnote: Dad died in July 1995. Mom has missed out on 23 years of Social Security survivors benefits because we werent aware that she should apply for them. Thats crazy! I go to school in Florida and have employer insurance in FL (ever since Sept 2008), but it's an HMO. The PPO my job offers has no deductible but is 80/20 coverage, so I opted the HMO. For the average person, it would make no sense to have 2 policies, but I'm not ordinary. I have many pre-existing conditions (some I was born with), hence the Illinois coverage. In Dec of last year, before my FL insurance kicked in, I had a multitude of issues which caused me to have to use my BCBS of IL in Florida where I'm attending school. Many of those things are at bay now, but for doctor visits, exams, etc to arise other than routine check ups, should I start using my FL HMO insurance and just use my IL insurance for when I visit home during breaks? Or should I just drop my FL insurance altogether? I expected the monthly premiums to rise a little, but what happened next confused and angered me and I really need to know if there is anything I can do......he we go....they said they could no longer insure me and my husband and that they would cancel the policy and were gving me 7 days notice before this happened, (why cant it just be amended, i know loads of people that have done this) they said it was a special deal for me because i had a provisional driver as my named driver..(to me this makes no sense, they work on risk, surely they wouldnt give special deals for unexperienced drivers?) but the icing on the cake they want to charge a 40 cancellation fee, however i am not cancelling they are??? also i can take out a new policy with them which i have to pay an admin fee for making a change to the policy, however it is supposedly a brand new policy??? My mother in law was driving my wifes car on our insurance pollicy. She was hit on the passenger side of the car and puched in to the roundabout by the cab on a 14 wheller. MY mother in law was not to blame as the lorry was in the wrong lane and there are witnesses who saw the accident. The car is a 1996 renault clio and there is some heavy denting and scratches on the passenger door and front wing. Nothing that has effected the driveability of the car to my knowledge. since the car was pushed up over the kerb and on to the roundabout it could have knocked the tracking a little. I dont know how much it will be to repair but the car is only worth about 600 and the insurance policy on this car has an excess of 350 cause it was the named driver who was driving and not my wife. There also is no protected no claims bonus. If i was to put this claim through the insurance how would this effect the pocket and the no blaims bonus.
