Back in 2006, I made a cover version of the ring of death tune from the Japanese horror flick, One Missed Call (着信アリ Chakushin Ari), composed by Koji Endo, just months after seeing the second film. This here is the ringtone version while the other one is a Hardstyle/Hard Trance version which was previously only uploaded to my old SoundClick page (RSTrax) in January 2006 and then updated in January 2008 to coincide with the release of the American remake of the film. Now 15 years later it's been spruced up a bit and available on Bandcamp and SoundCloud!

i get bummed out thinking about the decade or so between the late 90s and the late 2000s where there were dozens of different sites for hosting music which have all mostly crumbled and the music lost with them. songs i downloaded from soundclick or myspace, or some random server from a forum post, which i can still hear snippets of in my head but which literally Do Not Exist online anymore in any format

about ten years ago i tried tracking down a song from around 2005 called How Long Will I Wait For You ("you bring me down so much and i always lose") and could only find passing mention of it in old forums. archived posts, inactive accounts, dead links. now the forums don't even exist anymore and the search engines don't return any results at all.

someone somewhere in the world will have that song on a CD or on their old hard drive. someone somewhere wrote and recorded it. or maybe they don't. maybe no one saved a copy anywhere, and the person who wrote it is gone now, and the only way it exists at all is a faint memory of the chorus in my head and the way it made me feel.

it's the same story for millions of other songs, stories, art, videos. one day youtube will start deleting old videos, spotify will delete old songs, and then one day those libraries will shut down altogether and so much will be lost, some of it forever.

anyway. everything is feeling transient today. pour one out for that artwork you found that one time and could never find again

Something different. This is a song I made between 2003-2005 (my original pc I made the song on is currently out of order so I don’t know the exact date. Could be newer lol). Ironically, music was the original direction I wanted to take my career but unfortunately the music production course I wanted to take in college was delayed. So I become a photographer instead lol. I still love music tho I never got really good at making it. Probably with more practice, like everything, I would have gotten better. This is one of my more popular tracks I made on SoundClick. Reach #1 on the subgenre charts and #12 on the entire website’s charts 🙌🏽 lol

Okay that's actually a little bit cool. My highest ranking ever in the SoundClick charts was #53 with "Dawn and Catastrophe", whose production was a lot better, so I'm honestly impressed that my scrappy bedroom demo of "Seven" made it into the top 100 this week. I'm not sure how many artists I'm competing against there – I scrolled down to try to reach the end of the Acoustic chart, but gave up once I got past about #900 or so.

To be fair, probably many of those songs rank lower because they don't have any listens at all, I imagine. I don't have that many listens myself. But at least I've got a few fans who do regularly support me by listening and sharing, and that means a lot <3
