Slim apartment-towers visually separate the old blocks from newer ones. The old were constructed during the communist era (pre 1990) and some of them are getting fresh and better insulated facades. The newer buildings on the right side of the first picture are all made after 2000.

My Top 50 Songs of 2024*

Nearly a decade of the Top 50 Songs from [insert year here] that aren’t necessarily from [insert same year here] playlist! I honestly cannot believe that it's been 9 years. I actually had to remove a song from this list because I discovered that I had put in on a list back in 2019 (and meaningless rules are kind of my thing if you read the previous post).

But here we are again with 50 songs that I really dug this year, whether they came out in 2024 or not. Like last year, I did some rough sequencing that doesn't always work out (it's terribly hard to follow something as quietly brutal and, unfortunately, prescient as "Neighborhood") but, on the whole, I think it flows pretty well.

Check it out if you want. I personally think it's an excellent way to spend 3 hours but, like everything else on this blog, that's totally subjective.

Have a wonderful new year and you'll hear from me again in December of 2025. (Or maybe earlier? Been dabbling with a "Best of the 2020's so far" type thing...)

Year number 8 of the Top 50 Songs of 2023 that aren’t necessarily from 2023 playlist!

The biggest change this year is that I did my best to try and actually sequence the playlist so I recommend turning off the shuffle I've suggested in years past and let the thing play in order.

To be totally honest, I didn't fall in love with that many albums this year BUT I did fall in love with a ton of tracks, most of which are represented here (especially the end of the playlist which skews very 2023).

Hey party people

I feel like an alien all the time. Sure we can call it autism or whatever, I'm not even diagnosed, so I'm not calling it that. We can call it mental illness, but I'm only diagnosed with ADHD, doesn't explain anything! So I guess I am an alien lol. I know I'm a human, I know I can go to the human doctor and I have a central nervous system, epithelial cells, a heart, what have you, but oh no. Look at us interact. Not a human interaction at all. The trained professional comes to ask about self reported physiological responses. That's about as silly as asking what color the sky is. But we still do it. We still look at the world objectively even though we are creatures of subjective nature. Or are we? Or are they, I should say... I don't think that though. I know I'm not an alien. This is a human body, not very "alien" compared to the species I interact the most with. I know this body is human, but is this mind? What is a human mind? Are humans even honest with themselves? What defines honesty? Then if the human is too subjective, it starts experiencing emotional distress due to the line of questioning. Is that all humans? All I've interacted with so far. I've never gotten to know a stable human. My body feels human, but this mind, it does not.

Eventually there will come a time, when you’ll feel the need to escape. The weight of everything around you, will get more and more heavy. Maybe you’ll watch the birds, on a sweet sunset and wish you had wings, to fly away with them. There are plains, trains, ships and cars, that can take you anywhere these days. Still, you just can’t bring yourself, to do it. Your luggage gets too big with time. There are things that hold you down. Things like family, friends, assets, connections, career, that park you hang out every afternoon or even that old, dirty rooftop. The more you get attached to your home, the harder you can start over.
