Long rainy days of the typhoon season means it’s also time for our local SOUPer heroes. Here are 6 soup suggestions to help fight colds, wet commutes, or to help melt the clouds away in our own minds.

Bisaya halang-halang brings spice, lemongrass, and coconut milk to our lives. Batsoy from Iloilo and Kinalas from Bicol brings us rich, meaty, noodle soups. Tiyula itum from Tausug and Muslim cooks brings us unique flavors from Southern Mindanao, while Luzon’s Tinola and Sinigang make a vegetable-rich soup duo, full of varying shades of green and spice. The names of these soups are illustrated with their names either in Badlit from the Visayas, Basahan from Bicol, or Tagalog Baybayin.

So nakarating ako sa Quezon City from Laguna na halos wala nang pamasahe. Napansin ko na wala nang laman ang wallet at halos wala na rin ang barya. Naiwan ko sa bahay ang ATM cards. Buti na lang may load pa yung Beep Card at nakauwi pa rin.

so context kfcs here have (or HAD) like unlimited gravy and filipinos tend to be. deranged with it. like "using it as a sabaw and literally pouring it all over rice" deranged. literally filling plates full of it. one time some guy literally walked into a kfc i was in filled up a bowl w gravy and left to a different restaurant 💀

Sabaw ng Kapon

Another of Tatay’s rather exotic voodoo food is something he called “sabaw ng kapon”. It is a cold soup made from sliced fresh tomatoes, tap water, and salt to taste. (If anyone from Pangasinan particularly from the town of Asingan is reading this, please please please do shed some light into the etymology of this soup or confirm if there really is such a thing. tsaka yung mga gantong request ko sa family ko. kakauwi lang ng tatay ko pero ako yung maraming demand haha. Pati yunf paghiling ko ng lutong may sabaw sa nanay ko, go agad at yung specific pa talaga na gusto ko ang granted. Hinahanap ko sa labas o sa iba mga ganitong bagay pero sa mga malalapit lang pala rin matatagpuan. Akala ko di na ko makaka-request ng pagkain na lutong bahay pero ayan. I'm so grateful, really.
