Shri Venkateshwara University/Institute concluded the 4 day (March 8-11) women’s excellence award ceremony 2024 with full fanfare and fervour.

The Venkateshwara Group organized the women’s excellence award ceremony 2024 to mark the International Women’s day on March 08.

Through street shows & poetry recitation, students depicted women's empowerment that made the event memorable.

The focus of the street play was the prohibition of female infanticide.

We honored 132 women achievers with a Patka, turban & a memento for doing exemplary work in their field.

The Hon’ble Founder President of Venkateshwara Group Dr Sudhir Giri, Chief Advisor Dr VPS Arora, & the Pro Chancellor Dr Rajeev Tyagi inaugurated the event by lighting a lamp to Goddess Saraswati.  

The VC, Dr AK Shukla & the Registrar, Dr Piyush Pandey, joined them to unveil the women’s excellence award closing ceremony.

Dr. Sudhir Giri, the Founder President, highlighted that the President of India, Her Excellency Madam Draupadi Murmu, reinforces the fact that women hold top positions in India.

Through the honorable PM’s Bet Bachao - Beti Padhao–Beti Khilao & Nari Vandan schemes, the stature of women in our society has improved.

Women took on leadership roles and had prime seating during the 4-day women's excellence award function, as directed by the Founder President. While their male counterpart’s bolstered women's empowerment by assisting them & occupied back rows.

The Pro Chancellor Dr Rajeev Tyagi asserted through the honorable PM’s Bet Bachao - Beti Padhao–Beti Khilao & other women's empowerment schemes, the women are making their presence felt in every sphere.

    Mahendra Singh Dhoni  is an International Cricketer who captained the Indian National Team in limited over formats from 2007 to 2016 and win test cricket from 2008 to 2014.

Full name: Mahendra Singh Pansingh Dhoni Born on : 7 July 1981, Ranchi Bihar India, Role: wicket keeper batsman.

Dhoni studied at DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Ranchi, Jharkhand where he initially excelled in badminton and football and was selected at district and club level in these sports. Dhoni was a goalkeeper for his football team and was sent to play cricket for a local cricket club by his football coach. Though he had not played cricket, Dhoni impressed with his wicket-keeping skills and became the regular wicketkeeper at the commando cricket club (1995-1998). Based on his performance at club cricket, he was picked for the 1997/98 season vinoo mankad Trophy under -16 championship and he performed well. Dhoni focused on cricket after his 10 standard.

    In 1998, Dhoni was selected by Deval Sahay to play for the Central Coal fields Limited (CCL) team. Till 1998 Dhoni, who was in class 12th in school, had played only school cricket and club cricket and no professional cricket. Playing for CCL, he got a chance to bat up the order. He grabbed the opportunity and scored centuries and helped CCL move to A division. During the series between India and Australia in 2009, Dhoni hit an aggressive 124 runs in just 107 balls, in the second ODI, and a measured knock of 71 runs in 95 balls, along with Yuvraj Singh. And saw India home by 6 wickets in the third ODI. Dhoni took his first wicket in international cricket o  30 September 2009. He bowled travis dowlin of the west Indies during a match of the 2009 championship trophy. Dhoni had an excellent year in ODI's in 2009.

    He is the only captain in the history of cricket to win all ICC trophies. Under his captaincy, India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the 2010 and 2016 Asia cups, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions  Trophy.

He is also regarded by some as one of the best wicket-keepers and captains in modern limited-overs International cricket. A right-handed middle- order batsman and wicket-keeper, Dhoni is one of the highest run scorers in One Day Internationals (ODIs) with more than 10,000 runs scored and is considered an effective ‘finisher’ in limited over formats. He made his ODI debut in December 2004 against Bangladesh, and played his first Test a year later against Sri Lanka. Dhoni has been the recipient of many awards, including the ICC ODI player of the year. Award in 2008 and 2009, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratana award in 2007, the Padma Shri, Indian’s fourth highest civilian honour, in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian of the ICC World Text 11 in 2009,2010 and he has also been selected a record 8 times in ICC World ODI 11 teams, 5 times  as captain. The Indian Territorial Army Conferred the honorary rank of Lieutenant colonel to Dhoni on 1 November 2011. He is the second Indian cricketer after Kapil Dev to receive this honour.

    In 2013, under his captaincy, India became the first team in more than 40 years to white wash Australia in a test series. In the Indian Premier League, he captained the Chennai Super Kings to victory at the 2010,2011 and 2018 seasons, along with wins in the 2010 and 2014 editions of Champions League Twenty20. In 2011, Time magazine included Dhoni in its annual Time 100 list as one of the “most Influential people in the world. India cements is the owner of the IPL team Chennai Super Kings, and Dhoni has been its captain since the first IPL season. Dhoni is the co-owner of Indian super league team chennaiyin FC. In June 2013, when India defected England in the final of the champions Trophy in England, Dhoni became the first captain to win all three ICC limited overs trophies. After taking up to the Test captaincy in 2008, he led the team to series wins in New Zealand and the West Indies , and the Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2008,2010, and 2013.     In November 2013, Dhoni became the second Indian batsman after the Sachin Tendulkar to aggregate, 1000 or more ODI runs against Australia. During the 2015 cricket World Cup, Dhoni became the first Indian Captain to win all group stages matches in such a tournament.

Dhoni is a right handed batsman and wicket keeper. Initially, Dhoni appeared as a lower order attacking batsman but he gradually changed his playing style to deal with high pressure scenarios and his growing responsibility as a captain. He is a powerful hitter of the ball and is one of the fastest men in running between the wickets. He made use of the helicopter shot technique.

    Dhoni married Sakshi Singh Rawat, his schoolmate in DAV  Jawahar Vidya Mandir. At the time of their marriage, she was studying hotel management and was working as a trainee at the Taj Bengal, Kolkata. Dhoni became a father on 6 February 2015 to a baby girl named Ziva. At the time of her birth, Dhoni was in Australia as the captain of Indian team with 2015 cricket World Cup only a week to kick off. He decided not to travel back to India and was famously quoted saying that “ I am on national duty, other things can wait.”

For her Gold Award, Sakshi S. from Girl Scouts of Northern California, created Project GREET (Girl Rights: Engage, Empower, Train), which engages and educates audiences around the world on the root causes of  human trafficking and child marriage, the staggering prevalence of the problem, and ways to stop it—all while promoting gender equality.

Her curriculum, “Guidelines to Rehabilitate Young Trafficked Girls,” provided tools, including a website, documentary film, YouTube playlist, and training materials, for crucial job training programs to financially empower both previously trafficked girls and those still at risk. These guidelines, along with her documentary film (for which Sakshi interviewed activists, lawyers, and social workers from around the world), website, and YouTube playlist were distributed to more than 59 partner organizations worldwide and many United Nations delegates from countries such as Thailand, Cuba, Cameroon, Pakistan, Bhutan, Jordan, and more.

Project GREET has already impacted, directly or indirectly, approximately three million people, and will continue to spread awareness and provide urgent solutions for girls at risk of child marriage and human trafficking around the world.

Q: Why did you choose this topic for your Gold Award project? A: Since freshman year, I have been involved with my local Amnesty International group and my High school’s Girls Learn International (GLI) club. Through my work with Amnesty International, GLI, and through facts I have heard about forced child marriages and girls being trafficked, I understood deeply how the two vile practices directly violate girls’ rights.

However, most individuals cannot relate to these issues. I strongly believe that almost every social injustice or global issue disproportionately hurts women and girls. Being an action oriented activist, I started an Amnesty International chapter at my high school and also led the GLI chapter at my school.

I undertook this Gold Award project to address these global vile practices one step at a time.

Q: What kind of impact has resulted from your project, and how will it be sustainable? A: My project focuses on root causes, trends and key identifiers of trafficking, child marriage and gender inequality. Hence, its educational tools will be useful even 15 years later, unless these vile practices are entirely eradicated by then.

My project is a framework for education and empowerment and not a one-time event. To sustain Project GREET’s impact after initial film screenings and distribution, I used an automated calendar service to send reminder emails on Women’s Equality Day (August 26), International Day of the Girl (October 11), and International Women’s Day (March 8) until 2033. Project GREET’s partner organizations will also be reminded to screen my film and share the website's educational resources on the aforementioned dates, though they are encouraged to use them more often. Additionally, an email will be automatically sent at the beginning of every month, detailing a women’s rights initiative that historically took place that month, and a supplementary reminder to use parts of my resources to engage and mobilize communities. Since these organizations already have detailed take action plans, this reminder will help them use my project to train different communities on trafficking, child marriage and gender inequality.

All partner organizations have expressed interest in using my curriculum to expand their

outreach. As of late 2017, Amnesty International Burkina Faso and Brazil chapters have decided to add a vocational training program for trafficked girls, and Girls Learn International is happy to add Project GREET resources to its chapters’ curriculum for U.S. high school students to use as an advocacy tool.

Additionally, the Catholic Network to End Human Trafficking will host a vocational training fair for potential trafficking victims in mid-2018. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is considering creating a vocational training to protect against trafficking (for both boys and girls). They are using my curriculum to plan their program. All the United Nations delegates have agreed to further expand the outreach of my project and reuse it with an objective to stop these horrid practices.

Q: What have you learned from completing your project, and how has your Gold Award prepared you for the future? A: I have gained more confidence to be a risk-taker, a trait that will help me in my future to form connections, thereby complementing my current skills.

When I interviewed experts from across the globe on the topics of child marriage, trafficking, gender equality, governance and film-making, I learned that a leader continually learns and reflects.

Previously, I had never delegated so many tasks, let alone to many adults. I had primarily communicated with peers in past leadership roles. So, through this project, I’ve significantly improved my leadership and team building skills.

During this project, I also built relationships with individuals from different religions, ethnicities, cultures and communities around the world. This has inspired me to choose a job in the future with an international aspect that will immerse me in different cultures.

I also learned new technical skills like website building, movie making, and video editing, improved research skills and became an expert on trafficking, child marriage and gender inequity. Through the extensive use of Excel and email archiving methods to stay organized, and PowerPoint presentations to pitch my project to team members, I was able to manage a large number of people, and thus vastly bettered my record-keeping and organization skills. These skills have given me a new outlook.

As a future leader, I hope to become more compassionate and gain greater perspective from others to tackle pressing global issues such as climate change, lacking representation of women and minorities, war and poverty, unscrupulous business practices, and social evils beyond trafficking and child marriage.

Q: What have you learned from being a Girl Scout? A: Girl Scouts has given me the confidence to learn, lead, and serve, and the courage to take physical and operational risks.

    Mahendra Singh Dhoni  is an International Cricketer who captained the Indian National Team in limited over formats from 2007 to 2016 and win test cricket from 2008 to 2014.

Full name: Mahendra Singh Pansingh Dhoni Born on : 7 July 1981, Ranchi Bihar India, Role: wicket keeper batsman.

Dhoni studied at DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Ranchi, Jharkhand where he initially excelled in badminton and football and was selected at district and club level in these sports. Dhoni was a goalkeeper for his football team and was sent to play cricket for a local cricket club by his football coach. Though he had not played cricket, Dhoni impressed with his wicket-keeping skills and became the regular wicketkeeper at the commando cricket club (1995-1998). Based on his performance at club cricket, he was picked for the 1997/98 season vinoo mankad Trophy under -16 championship and he performed well. Dhoni focused on cricket after his 10 standard.

    In 1998, Dhoni was selected by Deval Sahay to play for the Central Coal fields Limited (CCL) team. A right-handed middle- order batsman and wicket-keeper, Dhoni is one of the highest run scorers in One Day Internationals (ODIs) with more than 10,000 runs scored and is considered an effective ‘finisher’ in limited over formats. He made his ODI debut in December 2004 against Bangladesh, and played his first Test a year later against Sri Lanka. Dhoni has been the recipient of many awards, including the ICC ODI player of the year. Award in 2008 and 2009, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratana award in 2007, the Padma Shri, Indian’s fourth highest civilian honour, in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian of the ICC World Text 11 in 2009,2010 and he has also been selected a record 8 times in ICC World ODI 11 teams, 5 times  as captain.     In 2013, under his captaincy, India became the first team in more than 40 years to white wash Australia in a test series. In the Indian Premier League, he captained the Chennai Super Kings to victory at the 2010,2011 and 2018 seasons, along with wins in the 2010 and 2014 editions of Champions League Twenty20. In 2011, Time magazine included Dhoni in its annual Time 100 list as one of the “most Influential people in the world.
