Samsung vs Apple: Why Samsung is Better than Apple
Tumblr media
The world of smartphones is dominated by two major players: Samsung and Apple. Both companies produce high-quality devices with cutting-edge features, but they cater to different user preferences. This blog explores why some users favor Samsung phones over Apple's iPhones.
It's important to note that before diving into the world of repairing these complex devices, consider a mobile repairing institute in Delhi like Hi-Tech Institute, an ISO and MSME certified institute with over 20 years of experience, can equip you with the skills to diagnose and repair both Samsung and Apple devices! Now, let's delve into the reasons why some users choose Samsung:
1. Android vs iOS: Openness and Customization
A key difference lies in the operating system. Samsung phones run on Android, an open-source platform that allows for greater customization. Android users can personalize their phones extensively, from launchers and themes to widgets and icon packs. This level of control appeals to users who enjoy tailoring their devices to their specific needs and preferences.
2. Hardware Innovation: Pushing the Boundaries
Samsung is known for its constant innovation in hardware. They've been at the forefront of features like foldable displays, high refresh rate screens, powerful processors, and multiple rear cameras. For users who prioritize cutting-edge technology and features, Samsung phones can be a compelling choice.
3. Wider Price Range: Options for Every Budget
Samsung offers a wider range of smartphones at various price points. This caters to users with different budgets. From the high-end Galaxy S series to the budget-friendly Galaxy A series, there's a Samsung phone for everyone. In contrast, Apple's iPhones tend to be positioned in the premium segment.
4. Expandable Storage: Avoiding Storage Woes
Many Samsung phones offer expandable storage via microSD cards. This allows users to easily increase storage capacity without having to upgrade their entire phone when they run out of space. For users who store a lot of photos, videos, or music on their phones, this flexibility is a major advantage.
5. Dual SIM Functionality: Staying Connected with Multiple Numbers
A feature often found in Samsung phones is dual SIM functionality. This allows users to have two separate phone numbers active on one device. This is particularly convenient for users who need to keep their personal and professional lives separate, or for those who travel frequently and want to use a local SIM card.
6. Headphone Jack: A Reliable Classic
While Apple removed the headphone jack from its iPhones several years ago, Samsung has continued to include it in most of its phones. This is a plus for users who still prefer wired headphones for listening to music or making calls.
7. Fast Charging Technology: Power Up Quickly
Samsung's fast charging technology allows users to recharge their phones quickly and efficiently. This is a major advantage for users who are on the go and need to get their phone back up and running quickly.
8. Integration with Samsung Ecosystem: A Connected Experience
For users who own other Samsung products like tablets, smartwatches, and laptops, Samsung phones offer a seamless integration experience. Users can easily connect their devices and share data or control them from one another.
Tumblr media
The Final Word
The choice between Samsung and Apple ultimately comes down to personal preference. If you prioritize an open and customizable Android experience, cutting-edge hardware features, and a wider price range, Samsung might be the better fit for you. However, if you value a premium build quality, a user-friendly closed ecosystem, and seamless integration with Apple products, iPhones might be your preference. Regardless of your choice, remember that a mobile repairing course in Delhi from a reputable institute like Hi-Tech Institute can equip you with the skills to troubleshoot and repair both Samsung and Apple devices, opening doors to exciting career opportunities in the mobile repair industry.

I came across a discussion that made me think today. I don't know if you know Måneskin. They're an italian rock band that recently won Eurovision and has kind of blown up (as they should). And I've noticed double standards in how the gp treats them as opposed to bts. Of course you can't really compare the two situations because they're completely different. There are so many factors that keep a lot of people from listening to bts' music, be it racism or all sorts of prejudice, which Måneskin don't really have. But I do want to touch on the reception when it comes to sexuality. The members of Måneskin are openly bisexual, they've kissed on stage too, but somehow that detail flies over most people's head (keyword most. There are still a-holes around) because they're manly, there's a girl in the group and the music is good (plus bi erasure, but still). They also wear heavy make up, but it's part of the rock attire. Meanwhile, we know absolutely nothing about bts' sexualities, but because of their image they are commonly assumed to be gay... And that makes their music bad too? On one side you have homophobes calling them girls and homosexual, and on the other side you have the outrage of "fans" whenever someone so much as jokes about them being anything other than cishets. You see the double standards here? This is a huge problem. I've always known that homophobia's everywhere, but why does it seem to jump out only in certain situations? Like our fandom is unnecessarily homophobic if you think about it, the hate is based on mere assumptions. When Lil Nas X's song and video came out, everyone flipped. But somehow, when the lead singer of a rock band kisses both the bassists on tv with the whole world watching, the hate doesn't even make noise. Am I making sense?
Yes it makes sense what you say anon, completely.
I do know who the band is, great presentation and honestly they deserved to win.
In my opinion those double standards you mentioned that definitely exist are due to several things:
Xenophobia
Racism
stereotypes
Misconception of BTS
Racism and Xenophobia in my opinion, are the root of the whole problem. Western countries have always thought that they are better than Eastern countries, especially Asian countries. Western countries, according to Western people, are better. An example I always like to give when I have this kind of discussion is Samsung vs Apple. I don't think I need to say any more.
There are some stereotypes established in the West about Asian artists, Korean in this case, which is wrong of course. For the West, everything that comes from Korea is cute, delicate, feminine and superficial. It is under the lens of those stereotypes that they see BTS.
BTS as well as Måneskin break the paradigms that Western society established as masculinity or how a man should look, but more importantly how he should behave and dress. In my opinion, Måneskin challenges those paradigms much more than BTS, but unlike BTS, they are accepted as rock rebels, who don't care about anything and who live up to the stereotype of those who play the music they play. Whereas with BTS there is no such concession or acceptance, they are too pretty and feminine according to many.
The issue of their sexuality is then somewhat similar. Måneskin is a rock band, I bet manave said: Ahh that's how rockers are, don't you remember... and proceed to mention various bands or singers who were also like that, it can be said that the way they dress and behave is "expected" so not many are... surprised.
BTS on the other hand is a boyband, or is considered as such. In general boybands are not respected or taken seriously by the industry, everyone thinks they are pretty boys with often empty songs, with no message behind them and a bunch of teenage fans behind them. From a rock band they don't think like that, do they? That's also one of the reasons why many people refrain from listening to any BTS song.
BTS dresses "pretty" but they have deep songs and they have rappers. We all know the criticism Joon and Yoongi received in the past for being idols and rappers, they don't fit the mould of what a rapper should look like, with BTS it's the same thing. Although with BTS there is also the problem that their music doesn't fit the stereotype of what a boyband sounds like. Many people find it hard to accept that an Asian "boyband" is so much better than many of the boybands the West has seen in recent times, which brings us back to the issue of xenophobia.
Another reason why many people refrain from listening to any BTS song is the language, if it's not in English at least, it's not worth it. And only if it's in English at least, it's good. It's one of the reasons why many Latin artists, for example, had to release songs in English to be taken seriously by the English market. I mean, BTS had to release dynamite and now butter for radio stations in general to play their music, for example. But we can all agree that those songs are really aimed at the palette of the Western market, not their general fans. We know what these seven men are capable of when it comes to their music. In my opinion, BTS had to lower their quality standards so that the industry in general and western people (I know BTS has millions of western fans, but I'm talking more generally here) would pay more attention to them. I digress.
BTS fandom is a small society and as in every society there is diversity. Of thought, religion, lifestyle etc. That's good and that's also bad. Homophobia is something present in this fandom unfortunately and it jumps out a lot more in some cases more than others. Joking that all members have a polyamorous relationship is fine but a shipper believing a ship is real is not. Members are seen in a certain way by many of their fans and any threat to that image is immediately rejected.

Technology and science are ever-evolving in times of digitization and globalization. For keeping in pace with the demands of the consumers as well as stakeholders of a business, the law comes in handy. This article will project some light on the intermingling role of Intellectual Property (IP) in the domain of brand protection in the form of not just trademarks but also other forms like patents, copyright, trade secret, and so on, which may help you to choose and device the strategy best suited for you.
What is Brand Protection, and from what is Such Protection Sought?
Brand protection is the strategic means to safeguard the IP and non-IP assets of an entity and its associated brands against real and potential infringers. The brand protection strategy plays a prime role in harnessing the economic value of a brand along with its name, image, reputation, and overall value.
The protection is majorly sought against all kinds of brand abuse against which the entity should remain vigilant at all times. These may include but are not limited to:
Tumblr media
1.     Brand Counterfeiting: It refers to the imitations or duplicates of a branded product utilizing fake trademarks without authorization to deceive consumers. By the year 2022, the global counterfeiting industry is predicted to be worth $4.2 trillion.
2.     Malicious Websites: Malicious websites are created by infringers to damage the brand and may take the following different forms:-
·        Cyber-squatters
·        Typo-squatters
·        Imitation websites
3.     Piracy of Copyright: Copyrighted articles like art, literature, computer programs are often sold at cheaper rates by illegitimately utilizing proprietors' rights for unauthorized profits and gains. The same holds for books and DVDs.
4.     Trademark Squatting: Squatters register names that are a sound-alike or look-alike of authentic marks with bad faith attached. For example, the Jordan case where the squatter used the Qiaodan mark.
5.     Online Impersonation: It happens when the infringer poses himself to be the actual proprietor of the brand by using its trademarked logos and copyrighted assets.
Role of IP in Protecting a Brand
Tumblr media
IP plays a crucial role in devising the brand protection strategy. Different IP routes can be taken in furtherance of the achievement of this goal. They are:-
1)    Trademarks: To put it straight, trademarks and brands are not the same and hence, cannot be used interchangeably. Where a trademark will help differentiate between the goods of two proprietors and identify the source of origin, brands have more complex features. The image building, status, value of the personality of the brand, and consumer association are all the intrinsic features that constitute a brand. A brand not only helps in consumer association but also develops the corporate existence of an entire company to fulfill a wide range of goals. However, both trademarks and brands help in identification; they play different yet overlapping roles.
Tumblr media
A trademark is a device, brand, heading, label, ticket, name, signature, word, letter, numeral, shape of goods, packaging or combination of colors or any combination thereof, which helps differentiate between the goods and services of one from that of another. The use of a trademark helps secure the exclusive right to use the brand name or device and prevent misuse by imitators. It also helps build brand loyalty amongst existent and potential consumers, which adds-on to the feature of the 'quality' of the mark.
Therefore, a trademark helps a brand to shift from a product-level brand to a corporate-level brand by attaining a certain amount of goodwill, which also depicts the interplay of trademarks and brands. The same is the most commonly adopted strategy due to its ease of operation and registration. A few examples include Nike's Swoosh, Chanel's representation of 'C,' Twitter's bluebird, and Adidas' three stripes logo.
 2)    Trade Dress - A brand can also be identified by the use of a distinct trade dress. The way a trademark helps identify the source of a product, a trade-dress serves an identical purpose. Trade dress often takes the form of labels and designs of packages like the Coca-Cola bottle (Tm. Reg. No. 1,057,884). The dress is composed of the look and feel of the product with distinct yet consistent specificity. A functional feature or a design aiding the function of a product cannot be protected. Other brands that have considered trade dress protection include Converse for its 'hi-top' shoes, Hershey's for its 'Hershey Kiss' chocolates, Burberry for its check pattern, Christian Louboutin for its red sole, and the list goes on.
Tumblr media
The threshold for seeking protection is often higher than trademarks, and therefore, requires a 'secondary meaning' to be proven, which means that the public identifies the design or the trade dress and relates it to a specific source. Hence, where a trademark may ensure immediate protection, seeking protection of a trade dress may relatively take lolonger. The Federal Court of the United States recently established the six-factor test in the Converse Inc. vs. ITC case where Converse alleged that the midsole design of its Chuck Taylor shoes had gathered sufficient goodwill and reputation. These factors are:
·        Association of the trade dress with a particular source by actual purchasers (typically measured by consumer surveys);
·        Length, degree, and exclusivity of use;
·        Amount and manner of advertising;
·        Amount of sales and number of customers;
·        Intentional copying; and
·        Unsolicited media coverage of the product embodying the mark
Once the secondary meaning is established, the trade dress can prevent illegitimate copying and infringement and can be a great branding strategy to build the reputation of a brand.
3)    Design Patent: A design patent is granted for the ornamental features of a product, which are non-functional. It is for this reason why the court decided to invalidate two of Ford's design patents covering the automotive-body parts for its F-150 truck (Auto. Body Parts Ass'n vs. Ford Global Techs., LLC, 293 F. Supp. 3d 690 (E. D. Mi. 2018)). The pre-requisite is that such a design should be new and non-obvious to the existing craft. It plays a crucial role in branding since the design forms the element that gathers the attention of the eye before actually using it. It helps appeal and lure consumers towards buying some specific product, and over time, it reduces the search-cost when the consumers adopt the product and absorb the brand image that comes with it.
Tumblr media
Design patents form a determinant role in the field of automotive and cellular devices to safeguard their branding and image. It is for this reason why Apple succeeded in a lawsuit against Samsung for Samsung infringed upon three of its design-patents covering its smart-phone technology inclusive of its appearance, as well as, the arrangement of the icons on its home screen. The protection afforded by design patents is a better alternative to trade dress protection since it does not mandate proof of established 'secondary-meaning.'
4)    Copyright: Seeking Copyright Protection is a good strategy in furtherance of brand protection where the product involves original works of authorship, such as visual art, music, and literary works. It goes beyond the simple creation of works and can help in brand promotion and protection by safeguarding distinctive and original logos/emblems, labels, product-use manuals, and even advertisements. For example, in Maple and Co. vs. Junior Army and Navy Stores, an illustrated catalog for advertisement, which was not for sale, was held to be a subject matter of copyright.
However, not all types of artistic expressions are worthy of being protected under the law. In a case where the artistic elements of uniforms of cheerleaders were brought forth, the court held that the feature could be copyrighted if:
(i) It can be perceived as a work of art separate from the useful article; and
(ii) It would qualify as a pictorial, graphic, or sculptural work eligible for protection if imagined separately from the useful article.
Therefore, before resorting to such protection, the strategists should keep in mind the points (mentioned above) of consideration to prevent contrasting objections to their claims. Copyright can be beneficial in the creation of a brand image in the long run since once the protection is sought, the brand's entity has the exclusive right to reproduce, copy, display, perform or create derivative works from their copyrighted work.
5)    Trade secret: Brand protectionists can undertake to choose an alternative to mandatory disclosure, which is required for all other kinds of IP except trade secrets. The same is more prevalent in the food & beverage industry.
Let's take some widely known examples where brands have endorsed protection under trade secrets. The most common is the Coca-Cola secret recipe. Other examples are Listerine's formula of Lambert Pharmaceuticals, the recipe of the Twinkies, McDonald Big Mac special secret sauce, Google's search algorithm, KFC's original recipe hidden in a safe. These choices also influence the marketing strategy of the brand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6) Overlapping IP: The best kind of protection that an entity can choose to protect and confine its brand against unlawful use is by deploying IP in layers. Let us take a hypothetical example of a food chain for better clarification. What kind of branding strategy aligned with IP be the most suitable in this scenario?
The food chain can trademark its logo     (device) and trade name (word).
It can also claim Trademark     Protection of its mascot, if any - for instance, Pillsbury's     Doughboy, Ronald McDonald, The Geico Gecko, and the Starbucks Mermaid.     These can help in further merchandising options in the form of toys, stationery,     apparel, etc.
The employees' uniform can be design     protected.
The recipe can either be copyright or a     trade secret, depending on the purpose of taking either route.
The cutlery and utensils for presentation     can be design protected.
The layout of the food-chain/restaurant,     after having attained and established a certain degree of reputation     through securing a 'secondary meaning,' can be protected in the form of a     trademark.
If there's any jingle used for     advertisement, the tune can be copyrighted. If distinctive, the tagline or     jingle can be trademarked.
Other Modes of Protecting your Brand and Conclusive Remarks
From the above discussion, it can be adduced that there are many tools a brand strategist has at his disposal to protect the brand. Also, it is advised to use IP in the best possible way by layering its different forms for amplified results. In each instance, the strategists should carefully consider the tools that best suit the dissemination and protection of the product/service at issue.
To protect your brand, you should consider the following steps:
Tumblr media
1.Always register your IP assets to prevent unauthorized use and counterfeits.
2.Signing Non-Disclosure Agreements is a good option to prevent the draining of IP assets or their spillover. Such agreements help safeguard confidential information.
3.Malicious websites should be kept under check by exercising continuous surveillance in terms of both online and offline operations.
4.The establishment of a strong media presence helps in creating a brand image and attracting potential consumers while withholding the attention of existing consumers.
5. Always be vocal in educating consumers of unwary trade practices, which might adversely affect consumer interest. They help differentiate between legitimate and fake products and services. For view source: https://bit.ly/39kP8Xp

Why do iPhone Users Think They Are Too Good for Android?
Tumblr media
A majority of the people who change to using iPhones or have used iPhones since their release would never think of getting an Android device. Will the conflict between Apple iPhone users and the Android users ever end? We really do not think so, Some people always have been Apple users from the start and some have shifted from Android to iPhone.Today, whatever technological gaps once existed between the latest iOS development and the Top Mobile App Development Company have essentially featured for using smartphones and tablets on both platforms. So, today I can see into the future, with your only real choices of Android smartphones and iPhones.
Android vs iPhone
Basics: Android is developed by Google. It sticks its own Pixel-flavoured version on its phones and lets the likes of Samsung, LG, and others on top of their own hardware.iOS is Apple's mobile OS for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It's developed with the hardware, so Apple doesn't have to worry about making the code fit a hundred different devices from a dozen several manufacturers.
Hardware: The big advantage of Android in terms of hardware is that we have got so many different phones to pick up. The Samsung Galaxy series, Pixel 3, The Huawei P30 Pro, We got a lot of manufacturers and models vying for your business. With the iPhone and iOS, we got a range which is now split, on the one hand, there's the iPhone 7 and 8 Plus alternatives of each of those models with the traditional home button.
Apps: We can find most big-name apps on both Android and the iPhone nowadays – there are many major bits of software that only run on one platform. Mobile app developers produce many of the new apps In terms of mobile apps made by Apple store and Google play store, we get all of Google's key apps on your iPhone. In contrast, the only notable mobile app we can get on Android that's made by Apple is Apple Music apps solutions.
Why is Android better than iOS?
Why would we choose Android? It's more customized, we get a more comprehensive choice of mobile devices. It also gives its apps more freedom – you can get screen recorders and call recorders on Android that Apple doesn't allow on the iPhone. With the iOS App Development Services provide many of constantly analyzing, estimating, and code on iPhone latest apps features on iPhone and iPad devices with responsive as iOS solutions.
In terms of the built-in AI assistants, This is getting more into the broader ecosystem that Google and Apple offer – which is increasingly important attention when we're choosing between Android and iOS. Now the thinking behind Android phones is that they are for the latest mobile phones in the years. They are the second-best and the middle-class people get those because they can’t afford the alternative. The choice between a better phone still stands even when both phones have inherited the beauty of the phones before them.
Conclusions
We can approach Android better than the iPhone from all kinds of angles: the design of the actual phones, the customization options in the software, the number of apps on various platforms. The best choice of phone for no longer just about the mobile phone — it's also about how deeply you're invested in the ecosystems set up by Google and Apple. Android-device ownership is a bit harder in those respects because it offers more choice to spend, choice of hardware and software features, and choice in how you organize and personalize your experience.

Comparison: Samsung Galaxy S10e (and previous Android experience) vs. iPhone 11 Pro
[epistemic status: largely subjective experiences]
I’ve been an Android user since smartphones came into being, across a variety of phones from different manufacturers. Due to a new employer I am now required to carry an iPhone and use it at least for some work related tasks (calls, email, calendar, some internal organizational tools). Currently I’m using both phones mentioned above in parallel. I’ve tried very hard to switch most of my private phone usage over to the iPhone as well, just to lessen the burden of lugging along two phones all the time, with notifications for different things. This has gone on for more than three months and I’m far enough along in the switching process that I take my Samsung with me, but don’t actually use it for anything anymore. So with this experience under the belt, I thought I’d share some of my thoughts on this perennial culture war. As the Android usage differs quite a bit between manufacturers, the software comparison is necessarily mostly between the S10 Android and iOS 13.
Pros of the iPhone compared to the Samsung
The battery lasts me a long time. I’ve gone two days, traveling, pretty heavy usage (mostly tumblr, browsing, some youtube) without recharging. Most days I come back home after an 8-10 hour work day with above 75% charge remaining. My Samsung needs to be charged every night and a day without usage (other than switching networks) oftentimes leaves me below 50% in the evening.
Manufacturing quality. It’s a very well made phone with no gaps between the screen or back and the sides.
FaceID. It works quite well and negates the need to place a finger somewhere. If you’re using biometrics to unlock your phone anyways, a system like FaceID probably beats fingerprint auth in the long run. Both can be beaten, so it’s important to be able to quickly deactivate them, a feature which Apple provides.
Software and security updates. Apple being their own software supply chain, iOS is updated pretty regularly. (This is the main reason why iPhones are more common in the corporate environment.)
Cons of the iPhone compared to the Samsung
Notifications. The same notifications on both phones are easy and extremely quick to reach, interact with and dismiss on the Samsung. The notifications view on the iPhone is hard to reach, almost worse than useless, needing multiple gestures to dismiss a single notification and simply not worth it. I’ve resigned myself to checking important apps manually.
The notch. The S10e punch hole camera has proven to be a much better concept than I’d have ever thought before. The notch very is noticeable and feels like a lot of lost space in comparison. I’d even go so far to prefer a larger bezel if Apple can’t commit to an actual bezel-less design.
The lack of more useful gesture control. My Samsung emulates three buttons by measuring from where on the lower edge I swipe up. The simplicity of having a general “back” button beats almost anything. Navigating through iOS is considerably harder, with “back” button like controls usually in the corners and most often in the upper left corner of the screen, which is farthest away from your thumb, the primary control of every phone for more than 10 years now. I have no idea what Apple is thinking here, but this design is such a catastrophic failure in UX that it would be an immediate deal breaker for me if I had to pay for this.
The camera. When I read reviews on the internet, the iPhone cameras are usually complimented as some of the best phone cameras available. Much of it comes down to the software interface and the included corrections, but for me, compared to the S10e, the cameras are average at best. I was blown away by the wide angle lens on the Samsung and especially the fish eye correction applied to the photo. I mean, I’m not a big phone photographer anyways, so it doesn’t take away much from me, but I’d never describe the pictures from that camera as anything more than “alright”.
The settings system. Settings in general are sparse. Deciding defaults for yourself is mostly prevented by Apple’s micromanagement of how their users are supposed to use their phones. It’s frustratingly useless.
Call quality. You’d think that should be the least of a user’s worries today. The amount of botched calls I’ve had during three months dwarfs my past ten years of Android smartphone experience.
Wifi tethering. Essentially random disconnects all the time. The quick settings screen is not configurable, so it takes one more click to set up than it needs to.
The Lightning port. I’ve just managed to make the switch to USB type C completely. Now, granted, I mostly load my phones wirelessly, but Apple’s resistance to standards is just laughable at this point. The quality of their cables (which probably sell for some 500% profit margin) is much worse than their phone product itself.
The keyboard. Other keyboards are installable, but they’re pressed to conform with how Apple thinks keyboards should work. Gboard doesn’t even have a setting to activate long press for symbols.
Why is there no way to close all background apps in one go?!
Neutral
Size. The iPhone is a smidgen bigger than the Samsung. I like my phones pretty small, so I’m happy there’s at least the Pro option for Apple users.
Physical weight. The iPhone is noticeably heavier than the Samsung, but that’s probably down to a bigger battery.
Complete integration within the Apple ecosystem would likely be preferable. Our work laptops are standard Lenovos though, so I can’t take advantage of that through no fault of Apple’s.
Apple Pay. Neither worse nor better than Google Pay.
Conclusion
If I had the choice, I’d take any Android’s customizable interface any day of the week. Even with botched manufacturer additions and differences in usage across manufacturers and versions, an Android phone is usually salvageable and can be used in a productive manner.
On the other hand, I’ve really tried to get into the Apple system of doing things, but, overall, I think most of their design choices are laughably bad, especially for power users (which make up a large part of their user base, I’d say). Now, I have no choice but to try to arrange myself with those facts. And I do see that the iPhone might have at least some redeeming qualities like mentioned above in the pros list.
But in the end, it cannot be said in any less certain terms: Apple’s phone product is just plain bad. Not “for the price”. Not “in certain ways”. Just overall. It is frustrating to use, even more so than a Windows machine, which, I think, says quite a lot. I’m not too hot on any phone manufacturer, to be honest. But Apple is the only one that’s managed to replace “stoic indifference” with “outright hatred” in my heart. And I know there’s a fan base there that will likely stick to Apple whatever they do. But I simply can’t imagine this will hold up forever. At some point, people will have to move away from this failed product, and with that, hopefully companies as well. There are better status signifiers to lug around. The day can’t come soon enough.

comprehensive rating of every squid emoji
a sequel to comprehensive rating of every octopus emoji
Tumblr media
i had to google squid anatomy for this.  he is floating upside down.  it did not sit right with me and now i Know.  he seems doleful about it.  not all squids will evolve if you flip them upside-down at level 30; show some decency, apple.  5/10; would gently coax into flipping over for his personal comfort
Tumblr media
points earned for good squid form, but i am inclined to be slightly suspicious of this squid and his probing stare, his swaying arms.  this squid must be trying to glean my secrets so he can prank me in a most biting personal way.  7/10; would delete my browsing history and skip town
Tumblr media
microsoft get a lot of flak for the black border but we must all accept it as a stylistic choice now.  this is a Simple Squid, and that is the fact of the matter.  also, what’s with all these vaguely pinkish squids?  squids can be so many fun and exciting colours.  6/10; would maybe nod and say hello to on a street corner, but would not pursue much of a further acquaintance
Tumblr media
samsung, how many times do i need to teach you this lesson, old man?  an artistic battle is happening here and this poor squid is the ring in which you wage it: the duo of hard and soft shading (who have not worked on their choreography, by heaven!) vs. the layers menu.  the effect resembles a person in a squid mascot suit rather than a bona fide squid.  which would be okay if i had not been promised bona fide squids.  but i had been promised bona fide squids, and you have lied to me.  this pushes the envelope by not being a pink squid, but this faded lavender only hearkens of disappointment. 2/10; would look into its sad eyes, shake my head, and walk on
Tumblr media
anime squid!  she could go on a keychain.  9/10; would subscribe to her wacky slice-of-life adventures on crunchyroll
Tumblr media
twitter drew this squid in a rush by tracing it from the twitter octopus.  disheartening lack of effort.  she is even splayed on the floor like an abandoned stuffed animal.  her eyes are blank with the heartbreak.  your squid deserves better, twitter.  so does your octopus, actually.  4/10; would pick up in my arms and give her a pep-talk about her self-worth
Tumblr media
in comparison to twitter and microsoft, this squid evidently has the most care put into his design, which i can appreciate.  i particularly love the detail put into his speckles, and the pads of his lil tentacles!  the shade of pink is a lil ugly but also at the same time a bit nostalgic, like a single barbie shoe from the 2000s you lost the other of and so take care not to lose.  anti-fashion.  love it.  9/10; would buy the fun separately-sold plastic accessories for
Tumblr media
have you ever seen a squid so miffed?  it’s in the eyes.  defensive posture.  he’s swimming away.  who upset this squid?  i mean, he looks like an okay squid.  why pick fights?  don’t fight squids.  they’ve done nothing to you.  7/10; would go like “hey, it’s okay, buddy”, get him out of the situation, and take him for falafel
Tumblr media
this is either a gummy squid that has infiltrated my array of Actual Squids (+ 1 mascot suit), or it is an absolute monstrosity of gradients.  i want to think it’s the former.  saying bad things about squids makes me sad, and this post is my harpooned albatross.  ???/10; would disqualify on grounds of being confectionery
Tumblr media
just fuckign look at this fuckign squid.  this is the worst-drawn squid on this whole list and i love him.  he’s owning it.  he makes it work.  look at those googly cross-eyes.  this squid looks like he lives on a geocities webpage designed to teach young children and fun-loving people of all ages about cool squid facts, and as anyone will know educating people about cool squid facts is the noblest profession of all bar none.  his tentacles are either raised to give you a hug, or pointing to the banner where you can play exciting and incredibly clunky flash games like Shrimp Catching and Ink Painting and Cephalopod Crossword (where the only word to find is SQUID).  mvp.  winner of squids.  1,000/10; would trust with my LIFE

How To Convert Apple Music To FLAC Lossless Format
FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec, an audio format similar to MP3, but lossless, meaning that audio is compressed in FLAC with none loss in quality. What's more, these days there are an increasing number of cell units like iPhone that helps playing lossless format music, and the listening expertise on cellular devices have been significantly better than when they began to support enjoying music within the first place. Gadgets like iPhone helps WAV out of the box. So it is perfectly OK to hearken to lossless music on your iPhone. In the event you happen to have FLAC files in your MacBook, you will discover a converter and from FLAC to WAV Mac OS would be able to handle these lossless format. No if its totally different codecs. They get their own submission. As I stated earlier than. Should you had been too involved about format and u run a label; why give the album or songs to different companies. The rule is that each format of file releases stays. As someone stated do we combine Lp, cassette or Cd in a single submission as a result of it come from one grasp tape? No we don't. Convert music recordsdata to the common MP3 format for your LAPTOP, Mac, cell phone, pill, or any MP3 player. Get MP3 sound of top quality, up to 320 KBps. The output MP3 songs shall be appropriate with any system: iPhone, iPad, Zune, Samsung Galaxy, Nokia, HTC Need, SanDisk Sansa, Walkman, wav to flac converter free download Huawei, Xiaomi, Honor, etc. It is not work that we are asking you to do; it's work that management and a majority of the users have decided ought to be the coverage of this web site. Those shopping for your releases will submit the format(s) that they buy and so they will not should be involved with the way you delivered the digital file to the store. Your releases will show up on in no matter codecs that users bought them, and if which means they present up multiple instances, I don't see how that may present a problem for you. There has been quite a lot of controversy over the years about whether WAV conversions to FLAC are precise duplicates and sound precisely the identical. It's Ears vs Math. Which do you subscribe to? The Crew at Blue Coast Information believes there is a distinction after doing dozens of blindfold listening assessments over the past decade. Why is that this vital to DSD listeners? Understanding the best way to do a blindfold listening take a look at is sophisticated. Included in this article are strategies how you can have a blindfold listening social gathering to test in your own ears. For me one of the best approach in direction of managing a music collection is the one put forward by HH: maintain all of your music asflac recordsdata and transcode towav in case your gear sounds higher withwav recordsdata. I do this not primarily to save lots of disk area (I have a slightly small music collection) however because visit the following web site instruments that I use to edit metadata can handleflac recordsdata significantly better thanwav files. I originally mad a WAV to WAV copy of the information on my transportable arduous drive, thus I have the original "music folder" and now "music folder copy" I used the "copy" verison to do the batch conversion. My originalmusi folder iwth simply WAV's is still in it's unique kind. the "copy" model now has both FLAC and WAV files. I think you might be telling me that I can do away with the WAV files on the "copy" version but I do not undersatnd your instructions. I am pretty illiterate with laptop stuff. I apologize for not understanding what is probalby quite simple. I've solely simply begun to analysis these codecs, but is is my understanding that WAV (precise copy) and FLAC (lossless compression) are interchangeable with no loss of knowledge. Assuming that's correct, is there one thing about VideoGo software that, in your experience, creates some lack of audio quality? Since I was pondering of trying it, I might be interested to know how that loss was noticed. Thanks. In a nutshell, all lossy files are known as so because they lose some knowledge after compression to make its dimension smaller. Quite the opposite, WAV file is a totally uncompressed media file and takes up quite a little bit of space. ALAC and FLAC are each lossless formats of audio information that comprise the identical data as a WAV, however they use compression to produce smaller information. FLAC and ALAC codecs do not lose any knowledge - they maintain all of it and compress it brilliantly, as ZIP files do. They're still considerably bigger in size than MP3 files, though, which throw much knowledge away. 3. Click "Convert Now!" button to start conversion. It is going to robotically retry one other server if one failed, please be patient while converting. The output files will likely be listed within the "Conversion Results" part. Click icon to point out file QR code or save file to on-line storage services such as Google Drive or Dropbox.

How To Convert APE To FLAC With Free Audio Converter
As Wes Phillips lately reported on this web site , CD sales are down and legal downloads of audio recordsdata are up. Stereophile has been criticized greater than once for not paying enough consideration to the topics of MP3 and other compressed file formats, akin to AAC , and for offering no guidance in any respect to readers about the right way to get the best sound high quality from compressed downloads. FLAC vs. MP3, by approach of high quality, on a regular basis wins. Does it imply that better high quality ends in a better sound? Yes and no. The factor is that, yes, there's a very clear distinction in the sound when one listens to FLAC recordsdata. But this is applicable only when they're utilizing good headphones and an applicable sound system. If the particular individual doesn't have any of those, and tries to take heed to FLAC recordsdata whereas sporting low-price headphones - the magic is misplaced, and sadly, FLAC might sound to them similar to MP3. That is why many people claim to hear no distinction between FLAC and MP3 and it is obvious that they select MP3 over FLAC - in addition to an identical high quality the dimensions is smaller! However they're so deeply mistaken. As you may see, it may be very exhausting to tell apart between these two codecs in case you are not using good headphones and sound system. With fre:ac you simply rip your audio CDs to MP3 or WMA information to be used along with your hardware participant or convert files that don't play with other audio software program. You may even convert whole music libraries retaining the folder and filename structure. Added support of ID3 Tags ("Consumer Text", "Encoder by", "Modifed by", "Orig Artist", "Orig Album", "Orig Filename", "Orig Lyricist", "Orig Yr", "Lyricist", "SubTitle", "Content Group", "Key", "BPM", "Publisher", "Copyright", "Person URL", "ISRC", "Play Rely", "Album Artist", "Disc", "Conductor"). Monkey's Audio's chief opponent is FLAC, which has more options than Monkey's Audio (streaming help, for ape to flac converter online example) and hardware support to its edge, although its effectivity in compression isn't as great. We additionally show you learn how to play Flac recordsdata on iPhone (with out changing). A cue sheet, or cue file, is a metadata file which describes how the tracks of a CD or DVD are laid out. Cue sheets are stored as plain text information and commonly have a ".cue" filename extension. Added converting APE to Ogg recordsdata. While I am unable to answer on error "resilience" capabilities of flac vs. ape, I've seen that wavpack compression is much less efficient that each flac and ape. There may be an option to make use of the same folder where your supply recordsdata (APE) are stored. Alternatively, you'll be able to select any folder on your laptop (1). That you must have enough privileges to create information in the chosen folder, otherwise this system will be unable to save converted recordsdata. Utilizing , it is simple to convert APE information to quite a lot of different formats. Frequently, the totally different Mp3's of a person every have different volumes; wav editor download audio editor obtain mp4 wav editor obtain mp3 online convert normalize sound routinely mp3 editor and converter diminish a file. The best way to improve sound quality? songs dimension reducer software program for android mobile. With Avdshare Audio Converter you'll be able to easily convert APE to FLAC or any lossy audio format, like MP3 by doing which you'll play APE on iPhone, iPad, iPod, iTunes, Samsung, Blackberry, Android, PS3 and another standard moveable gadget. I did attempt to convert utilizing JRiver, however the best way the information find yourself you have to highlight each track to delete individually. Doesn't seem like an enormous deal, but after doing 5 cd's and having three of them copy the highlight as a substitute of delete I gave up. I do know this is both user error or finicky keyboard but both manner vast amounts of work versus dbpoweramp that when transformed retains the original ape To flac Converter Online recordsdata highlighted for straightforward removal. As for changing initially did not know and it was all executed.
Beneath Use preset, change it to Custom setttings. Now you possibly can decide from VBR, ABR and CBR. These commonplace for Variable, Common or Fixed Bit Charge. For the highest quality, you are going to need to go together with CBR, which additionally means your MP3 file can be a bit bigger. Step four: Start to convert flac to ape. It is clear that not everyone is delicate to it however I do know a variety of of us who've began saying what I have been saying for years: Concept however, codecs like flac do not sound the same and raw PCM ( orwav). In keeping with wikipedia, iTunes can at the moment learn, write and convert between MP3, AIFF, WAV, MPEG-4, AAC and Apple Lossless (.m4a). That is we still can't import and play FLAC in iTunes. However, AAC is the standard format for iTunes audio, and it is the format for lossy sound compression. When CD-high quality audio files are compressed into smaller information, some data that not influence the listening expertise of the file is eliminated, that is, AAC format can't be decompressed into an indistinguishable duplicate of the initial data. Some music file varieties, including WAV (.wav), AIFF (.aiff), and RA (.r) can't be uploaded to your library using Music Supervisor or Google Play Music for Chrome. Have plenty of long podcasts, music, songs in MP3, WAV, APE or FLAC and need to break up or minimize them into shorter tracks? In case your audio file have a CUE associated with it, splitting your music information will probably be much easier by the assistance of the smart Bigasoft CUE plitter for Mac. When you could have executed the right output settings, now you can click on on Convert All button and Wondershare Video Converter Final will begin converting MP3 to FLAC convert the file immediately. Convert music information to the universal MP3 format for your LAPTOP, Mac, cell phone, tablet, or ape to flac converter online any MP3 player. Get MP3 sound of high quality, up to 320 KBps. The output MP3 songs shall be suitable with any machine: iPhone, iPad, Zune, Samsung Galaxy, Nokia, HTC Desire, SanDisk Sansa, Walkman, Huawei, Xiaomi, Honor, and many others. Secondly, you don't need an web connection to hearken to your music, and whereas the Offline modes of each Tidal and Spotify enable you to apply it to the subway, it nonetheless must be connected to the 'internet at some point to get the information. What in case your music participant doesn't have apps or network capability? For cheap music gamers like the Sony A17 , a set of FLAC recordsdata take advantage of sense.

iPhone X vs Galaxy Note 9
Just a few minutes ago, Samsung has introduced its new Galaxy Note 9, which comes to the market with a renewed S-Pen as well as a larger battery to hold us as long as possible. The main rival of this device in Apple is undoubtedly the iPhone X, and this is why we have asked the question, which device has better specifications? The iPhone X or the Galaxy Note 9
Tumblr media
In this table of specifications we see how the screen size is greater in Note 9 , something that does not surprise us the least. But for us such a large screen can be uncomfortable for the user. Apple will bet this year for an iPhone X Plus with a 6.1-inch screen that already seems great, but here comes the taste of each user. By having a larger screen, the body is obviously larger, with a greater weight and larger dimensions. If you are looking to play multimedia content or make notes with the stylus very often, the Note 9 can be a good option.
Of the processor and the general operation of the device we can not say absolutely anything, since although both terminals have the most top processors of the current market, we can not comment on their operation on paper. Our point of view about this aspect will come when we have both devices in physical and perform the appropriate tests. If it is true that the processor of Note 9 is this year and the A11 Bionic is the previous year, but when Apple presents its A12 processor will be fully matched
In terms of storage without a doubt the winner is the new Samsung terminal , since it includes a greater base capacity, but also gives us the possibility of expanding the storage space with an SD card, being able to have a Galaxy Note at the end 9 with a storage of 1 TB . The iPhone in addition to having a lower base capacity, does not let us make an expansion through SD cards.
The subject of the camera has already been more than commented because it is the same as we found in the Galaxy S9 +. We valued a few months ago that both cameras are of very high quality, but each "wins" in some aspects. For this section we recommend you see the video that we uploaded in Apple5x1 on the comparison of cameras between the Galaxy S9 + and the iPhone X.

What is the Relevance present day generation?
"Era inside the long-run is irrelevant". that is what a purchaser brand new mine advised me once I made a presentation to him about a brand new product. I had been speaking me approximately the product's features and benefits and listed technology" or something to that impact, as one in every one of them. that is whilst he made his declaration.
Tumblr media
I realized later that he turned into correct, at the least within the context of the way I used "technology" in my presentation. but I started considering whether he might be right in different contexts as properly.
what's technology?
Merriam-Webster defines it as:
1. a: The sensible software modern information in particular in a particular location: engineering 2
b: A functionality given with the aid of the practical utility contemporary knowledge
2. A way contemporary accomplishing a project especially using technical tactics, methods, or information
3. The specialized factors contemporary a particular discipline state-of-the-art enterprise
Wikipedia defines it as:
Technology (from Greek τέχνη, techne, "art, ability, foxy state-of-the-art hand"; and -λογία, -logia[1]) is the making, change, utilization, and know-how trendy equipment, machines, techniques, crafts, structures, and methods modern day organization, in order to resolve a hassle, improve a preexisting solution to a trouble, attain a intention, deal with an applied input/output relation or perform a specific characteristic. it is able to also consult with the collection modern day such tools, which includes equipment, changes, arrangements, and procedures. technology considerably have an effect on human as well as different animal species' capacity to manipulate and adapt to their natural environments. The time period can both be applied normally or to unique areas: examples consist of construction generation, clinical era, and information technology.
Each definition revolves around the same element - application and usage.
Generation is an Enabler
Many people mistakenly consider it's miles generation which drives innovation. but from the definitions above, this is truly no longer the case. it isa possibility which defines innovation and generation which allows innovation. think about the traditional "build a better mousetrap" example taught in most business colleges. you would possibly have the technology to construct a better mousetrap, but when you have no mice or the old mousetrap works properly, there's no possibility after which the era to build a better one will become irrelevant. then again, in case you are overrun with mice then the opportunity exists to innovate a product the usage of your generation.
Tumblr media
Any other instance, one with which i'm in detail familiar, are consumer electronics startup companies. i have been related to both those that succeeded and people that failed. every possessed precise leading edge technology. The distinction became opportunity. people who failed could not locate the possibility to develop a meaningful innovation the use of their era. In truth to live on, these groups needed to morph oftentimes into some thing definitely unique and if they were fortunate they could take advantage ultra-modern derivatives in their unique era. greater modern day than not, the original technology wound up inside the scrap heap. generation, accordingly, is an enabler whose ultimate price proposition is to make improvements to our lives. with a purpose to be applicable, it desires for use to create improvements which are driven by using possibility.
Era as a aggressive advantage?
Many businesses listing a generation as one of their aggressive benefits. is this legitimate? In a few cases sure, however In maximum instances no.
Generation develops alongside two paths - an evolutionary direction and a progressive path.
A revolutionary era is one which enables new industries or permits answers to problems that had been previously now not possible. Semiconductor era is a great instance. no longer best did it spawn new industries and products, however it spawned different innovative technology - transistor era, integrated circuit era, microprocessor technology.
Tumblr media
All which provide many of the goods and services we devour these days. however is semiconductor technology a aggressive benefit? looking on the number modern-day semiconductor groups that exist today (with new ones forming each day), i'd say no longer. How approximately microprocessor era? again, no. lots modern microprocessor organizations out there. How approximately quad center microprocessor era? now not as many companies, however you have Intel, AMD, ARM, and a number modern day companies constructing custom quad middle processors (Apple, Samsung, Qualcomm, etc). So once more, no longer a whole lot ultra-modern a competitive gain. opposition from competing technologies and smooth get entry to to IP mitigates the perceived aggressive gain modern any specific technology. Android vs iOS is a good instance of how this works.
Both running structures are derivatives cutting-edge UNIX. Apple used their era to introduce iOS and won an early marketplace gain. however, Google, utilising their variant modern-day Unix (a competing era), caught up exceptionally quickly. The reasons for this lie no longer within the underlying era, but in how the goods made possible via the ones technology had been delivered to market (loose vs. walled lawn, and so forth.) and the differences in the strategic visions latest agency.
Tumblr media
Evolutionary technology is one which incrementally builds upon the base revolutionary generation. but via it is very nature, the incremental alternate is simpler for a competitor to fit or leapfrog. Take as an instance wireless cellular phone generation. employer V delivered 4G products previous to business enterprise A and at the same time as it is able to have had a quick term advantage, as quickly as organization A delivered their 4G merchandise, the gain state-of-the-art era disappeared. The purchaser went back to deciding on employer A or business enterprise V based on rate, provider, insurance, some thing, but not primarily based on era. therefore era could have been applicable in the quick time period, however inside the long term, have become irrelevant.
In brand newmodern global, technologies have a tendency to speedy come to be commoditized, and within any particular generation lies the seeds cutting-edge its personal death.
Era's Relevance
this text became written from the possible trendy an give up patron. From a developer/fashion designer standpoint matters get murkier. The in addition one is removed from the generation, the less relevant it turns into. To a developer, the generation can appear like a product. An enabling product, however a product nonetheless, and as a result it's miles distinctly relevant. Bose ultra-modern a proprietary signal processing era to permit merchandise that meet a fixed cutting-edge marketplace requirements and accordingly the technology and what it permits is applicable to them. Their clients are greater involved with how it sounds, what's the fee, what's the first-rate, etc., and now not a lot with how it's miles finished, for this reason the technology used is a whole lot less relevant to them.
Tumblr media
Recently, i was worried in a dialogue on Google+ about the new Motorola X telephone. latest the humans on those posts slammed the smartphone for numerous motives - price, locked boot loader, and so on. There were additionally masses modern knocks on the fact that it did not have a quad-middle processor like the S4 or HTC one that have been priced in addition. What they didn't draw close is that whether the manufacturer used 1, 2, four, or eight cores in the end makes no difference so long as the telephone can deliver a competitive (or even fine of sophistication) characteristic set, functionality, charge, and consumer enjoy. The iPhone is one of the most a hit telephones ever produced, and but it runs on a dual-core processor. It nevertheless can provide one of the fine consumer reviews on the market. The features which might be enabled by using the era are what are relevant to the purchaser, no longer the era itself.
The relevance present day era consequently, is as an enabler, not as a product function or a aggressive gain, or any myriad modern day different matters - an enabler. looking on the Android running gadget, it's miles an excellent piece cutting-edge software program generation, and yet Google gives it away. Why? due to the fact standalone, it does not anything for Google. Giving it away permits different corporations to use their know-how to build services and products which then act as enablers for Google's services and products. To Google, it really is where the actual price.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 vs Samsung Exynos 9820 Early Performance Comparison & Analysis
These are two unreleased SOCs, with probably a bunch of tuning to do, but I have found some Geekbench results and with the help of /u/CatMerc, analyzed why the results are displaying as they are. Geekbench isn't the best benchmark, and someone like /u/andreif of Anandtech could explain why, and has in the past in his articles, but it is what we have to work with. He will surely do much more detailed testing with more complete hardware/software which gives a better look. This is just a basic preview.
Link to Snapdragon S855 inside the Galaxy S10+ Geekbench Results
Link to Exynos 9820 inside the Galaxy S10 Geekbench Results
Here is a table comparing the two results, and how much better/worse the Exynos 9820 is vs the Snapdragon 855
A few things immediately pop out. One is that Samsung has much higher single threaded perf, which is expected as their current Exynos Mongoose 3 core is better than the Kryo 485 Gold (A76 with some modifications). The large core in this SOC is the Mongoose 4 with some improvements. That is expected.
Just like with last generation, Exynos has lower multithreaded, but this time the gap has closed significantly. That bodes well for Exynos. Especially because the Exynos is in a smaller device (S10 vs S10+) and they are at a process node deficit ("8nm" vs "7nm").
The other thing is that the memory score is much much better on the Exynos. 1 could be because I suspect the 9820 is using 2333mhz vs something likely slightly lower from Qualcomm.
The other is the memory latency. There is a MASSIVE deficit there from Qualcomm. Exynos is registering scores of 40ns and 46.2ns for single core and multicore. Qualcomm is registering 147.8ns and 148.4ns. Apple with the A12 is registering results in the low 100ns-120ns range. I was very confused about this, but /u/CatMerc was able to make sense of this because of a couple reasons.
SOC level last level cache is one reason. Qualcomm & Apple has a SOC level last level cache, while Samsung doesn't. Samsung has an L3 cache on the Exynos while Qualcomm doesn't use one on Kryo 485 Gold. Having a SOC level last level cache means more latency because of the additional caches data has to hop through(Apple and Qualcomm use is presumably for the power savings benefits).
Samsung has sub 100ns latency on the Exynos 9810 as well, because of similar reasons. Samsung also tuned the 9810 scheduler for MWC last year much more aggressively than they did for the actual release products which /u/andreif has detailed in his various article at Anandtech. Here is a chart from one of those pieces which shows ~88.6ns in a shipping device, but ~51.3ns in the MWC demo. It is very possible Samsung has done the same thing with this device. modified the scheduler for maximum performance for upcoming MWC event coverage, but maybe detuned for final shipment. 51.3ns -> 40ns-45ns doesn't seem like an impossible improvement IMO.
These Geekbench memory latency results are in line with Anandtech's more in depth testing
Please correct me if my analysis was wrong in anyway, you can read something else from this, or you can explain the latency section better.

The Alexa vs. Google Assistant battle
Tumblr media
At the CES high-tech conference, there's no shortage of devices that come with voice-activated helpers: smart TVs, cars, pianos - and even a toilet... No matter who makes the hardware, however, the virtual aide inside is likely to be one of two: Amazon's Alexa or Google Assistant. For example, ShadeCraft, the maker of a new device that lets garden parasols be controlled by voice, has chosen Alexa. Users can ask Alexa to open or close the sunshades mechanically, or play music via Bloom's speakers. ShadeCraft wants to integrate Alexa completely, so that voice commands such as ordering Amazon products or asking what the weather will be like could then be done from the patio as well as the living room.
Amazon has made it hassle-free to add Alexa to products, by offering the assistant on a single chip - the Alexa Connect Kit. It has been available for a few months now, but at CES Google just announced their equivalent tool with a strikingly similar name - Google Assistant Connect. However, any product using that chip will have to wirelessly connect to a Google smart device, which will process voice data.
So how do the two competing products compare? Google Assistant, for example, tends to be better at answering queries about the wider world than Alexa. It also has exclusive access to some of the firm's other products, letting users control Chromecast audio streams or display YouTube and Google Maps on devices with screens. Alexa, by contrast, is more widely supported by third-party products and has more apps.
Many firms think that their customers should be able to choose which assistant they will interact verbally with. For instance, Sonos has shown off a prototype smart speaker that allows users to select either Alexa or Google Assistant, though it isn't possible to activate them both at the same time.
The problem is that interacting with multiple virtual helpers through one device could get confusing. "Say an alarm goes off on the speaker," writes Dieter Bohn at tech site The Verge. "You might not know whether it was Alexa or Google that set it off, and you'd be stuck guessing which one to ask to stop while it beeps." However, in time, people may well become accustomed to using both assistants interchangeably, and even others like Apple's Siri or Samsung's Bixby, depending on what they want to do. Consumers “will be entrenched in one of those ecosystems and so the manufacturer of appliances is not going to want to lose sales to consumers who prefer one of them," said Ross Rubin at market analysts Reticle Research to the BBC.
Amazon is estimated to have 41% of the global smart speaker market while Google comes in second, taking 28%. "Alexa had made the first-mover advantage and for a few years, that was the dominant integration technology at CES," explains Rubin. But Google has stepped up its presence. At the showcase, Alphabet placed Google Assistant front and center in rolling out a slew of new integrations and capabilities, integrations that place Assistant in third-party devices like Sonos (SONO) speakers and Instant Pots, and a tool called Google Assistant Connect, which lets device makers enable Assistant on any device.
Some, though, remain sceptical that voice assistants add much value to most products. "They're putting Alexa in everything and I'm getting a little bit tired of it," one user-interface specialist from a major car-maker told the BBC at CES. "If I want to open my toilet why should I tell Alexa to open my toilet instead of opening it myself?"
But Mr Rubin thinks that there are certain gadgets where the benefit of hands-free control does make sense. Take kitchen appliances, for instance. Instead of trying to finger a recipe book or smartphone with - literally - butter fingers, you can ask a voice assistant to call out the directions or repeat something if you need to hear it again.
So it seems the war between Google and Amazon in the smart home market has just begun. In the future, new opportunities will be unlimited. According to a recent research by RBC Capital Markets, by 2021, Amazon could see about 5% of its total revenue -- equivalent to $18 billion to $19 billion per year -- from Alexa-related functions. That revenue would be driven by not just device sales, but by incremental growth in voice shopping and platform revenues across Alexa's rapidly growing base of installed devices, which includes both Amazon devices and Alexa-enabled third-party gadgets.
