For the past 30 years you've called him the worst Scooby Doo character, and now there's an ENTIRE SERIES worth of worse ones. You tell him you're sorry.

Fred and Velma going "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" is a love language.
Velma saying "What a ham" about Scooby and calling him and Shaggy "chickens (affectionate)" is a love language.
Shaggy and Scooby solving mysteries with their friends even though they're constantly scared to death is a love language.
The others being used to Daphne's danger-prone-ness and always coming to her rescue is a love language.
Scooby being a scaredy-cat but always coming to the rescue when his friends are in trouble is a love language.
Fred laughing at Shaggy's jokes and sniping at people for scaring Scooby is a love language.
Velma switching whether she tags along with Fred and Daphne or Shaggy and Scooby is a love language.
Shaggy and Scooby stealing each other's food but always going back for the other when he's in trouble is a love language.
These people just love each other so much and I am emotional about it.

We can only imagine how the homophobes of the Christian Right, in their hard-wired Zealotry and True Belief in homosexuality being a Serious Mental Aberration (notwithstanding the American Psychiatric Association's 1972 delisting of homosexuality in this regard), will react.
Likewise with the Kulturkriegsmennsch who want Amerikanischer Realkultur defined according to the narrow and prismatic beer-goggle lens of 76 Country Boulevard and Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, beside the shores of Table Rock and Taneycomo lakes even, in the 65616.

what’s funny about velma (2023) is that they’ve already tried a dark and edgy scooby doo remake. the first live action movie from 2002 was originally directed towards adults, and was rife with dirty jokes, drug references, and cleavage shots of daphne and velma.
you know why the final product didn’t resemble that at all? bc they realized early on that the edgy grimdark angle fucking sucked. they reworked the movie to be more family-friendly— still with a complex plotline, but without the gratuitous sexual references and adult jokes. they did end up keeping a few references to shaggy smoking marijuana (his love interest being named mary jane, for one) but they were super toned down so that they’d go right over the heads of any kids watching.
it wasn’t necessarily a kids movie. i was five years old when it came out, and i loved it, but it was fun for teens and adults to watch too. and even with the dated cgi for scooby, it still has a lot of rewatch value. ask yourself if you think anyone is going to be rewatching velma in 2043 the way people still watch scooby doo twenty years after it was released.
this weird trend of the past few years of remaking fun and campy media into something edgy and full of shock value (wednesday, riverdale, and that awful winx club series come to mind) is so boring and trite and misguided. if you want to make dark media so bad, write something original instead of borrowing the barest skeletons of existing media and distorting them until they’re unrecognizable. it’s such an insult to the creators to have their stories mutilated by people who have no understanding of or appreciation for the characters or audience.

Thinking about Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost and how it kinda has a message about how a lot of pilgrim type nostalgia and Americana is such an idealized view of the past that refuses to actually acknowledge the pain and oppression inherent to the era.
This little town in Massachusetts literally builds a "puritan village" and uses the story of a witch who supposedly used to live there to bring in tourists, claiming the village being built disturbed her spirit.
And none of the folks in charge know she was actually a witch!! As far as they know, she really was just a Wiccan who was persecuted by Christians for her faith and who was murdered despite doing nothing but helping others with her healing herbs!! And like!! I feel like that's a political statement, especially for the 90s, that feels very large!!
It's essentially saying: Americans will mythologize their own history and in doing so obscure the harm it caused!!
There's no acknowledgement of the natives in the film at all. No thought spared to the slaves or indentured servants. And that makes some sense given it's a kids movie. But given the context of the story itself, it almost feels intentional. Of course this pioneer town would fail to acknowledge the fact that its built on stolen land and by unpaid slave labor. That doesn't sell tickets!!
In the same vein, the leaders of the town make the witch's ghost "real" by having folks dress up as her to scare people, secretly. That way they're able to tell the story of the witch they killed and not have tourists grapple with the truth of the witch trials. No instead they go "oh well its good she was killed" and continue to come because it's the real supernatural!!
And then yes immediately after it turns out she was a witch, but it doesn't absolve the townsfolk of what they did. They didn't actually think she was an evil witch. All the sightings of Sarah Ravencroft are fake. With all they do they're able to escape the truth of what they're celebrating. They market themselves on nostalgia and this "pure" unsullied past full of whimsy.
The past wasn't a time of pain and suffering for the exploited!! It was a silly time, look at the stocks and throw tomatoes and giggle cause it's all in good fun!! Don't think about who would actually have been in them. Don't think about who taught the pilgrims about the crops we show being grown. Don't think about how white the town is. And was. Or who used to be here. Or who was considered "a witch".
I don't know man!! Scooby-Doo does this a lot!! It makes statements but it's never clear how intentional they are cause it's Scooby Freaking Doo!! I love it!! AAAA!!

How Human is your Animal?
Based on animalistic representation in Media. Ranging from anthropomorphic to everyday pet.
A tier list for your convenience
S Tier- Humans don’t exist here
Qualifications: the world has no humans, animals tend to walk on hind legs and participate in human like societies, most likely anthropomorphic but not required
Zootopia, Kung Fu Panda, Sing, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Chicken Little, My Little Pony, Goofy Movie, Ducktales, Robin Hood, Angry Birds, Samurai Rabbit, Paws of Fury, Spiderhams Universe
A Tier- I see, a little co-op happening
Qualifications: the world has humans, humans acknowledge animals in some way, they can be hired/considered for jobs and/or are active in society. Might be considered mutants
Paddigton, Muppets, Stuart Little, The Bad Guys, Pinnocio, Shrek universe, Care Bears, the Bee Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, and subsequently the entire MCU, Monsters Inc, Storks, Looney Tunes, TMNT, MHA, Yogi Bear, We Bare Bears, Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022), Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Hop, Wonderland, James and the Giant Peach, Hoodwinked, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, Ichabod and Toad, Sonic Movie
B Tier- Your getting suspiciously close
Qualifications: act more human like, perhaps develop a hidden society or walk on hind legs or plan elaborate heists, it’s just not quite right for an animal
Madagascar, Ice Age, Shark Tale, Surfs Up, Snoopy, Rescuers, SpongeBob, Ratatouille, Horton Hears a Who, Free Birds, Great Mouse Detective, Chicken Run, Flushed Away, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Tom and Jerry, Secret of Nym, Tale of Desperaeux, American Tail, Once Upon a Forest, Garfield, Over the Hedge, Rango
C Tier- Communication is key in fostering animal relationships
Qualifications: Perhaps by magical transformation or special gift or something that has always been kept a secret until now, these animals are able to talk to you
Cinderella, Tarzan, Jungle Book, Epic, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Charlottes Web, Scooby Doo, Happy Feet, Snow White, Pete’s Dragon, Princess and the Frog, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Spies In Disguise, Emperors New Groove, Enchanted, Sophia the First, Peter Rabbit, Meet the Robinsons, Anastasia, Swan Princess, Dr. Dolittle, Leo, Up
D Tier- Oh look, it’s gaining complexity
Qualifications: although animals have been known to convey emotions nothing is more complex than creating Shakespearean like storylines. Humans take to the sidelines
Lion King, Finding Nemo, 101 Dalmatians, Bambi, Land Before Time, The Secret Life of Pets, Bugs Life, Oliver and Company, All Dogs go to Heaven, Lady and the Tramp, Fox and the Hound, Aristocats, Migration, Bolt, Dinosaur, The Good Dinosaur, Super Pets, Dumbo, Home in the Range, G-force, The Wild, Spirit, Rio, Curious George
F Tier- It’s all okay, animals are just animals here
Qualifications: Imagine your pet in a movie, that’s prolly what fits here. The everyday dog, or cat, or shark. Likely plays a part in the plot progression of the movie
Babe, Jurassic Park, Milo and Otis, Old Yeller, Life of Pi, Sword in the Stone, Beethoven, A Dogs Purpose, We Bought a Zoo, Pokémon, Dolphins Tale, Homeward Bound, The Black Stallion, Marley and Me, Jaws, King Kong, How to Train Your Dragon
Z Tier- So it doesn’t work like other places, but it works for you
Qualifications: a Universe with its own set of rules, perhaps jumping into a place outside of their own where rules seem just a little different. Who can say if it was real, or a dream?
Mary Poppins, Spiderverse, Fantasia, Mario Bros, Song of the South, Alice in Wonderland (cartoon), Calvin and Hobbes
Each placing is based on the highest human to animal ratio in universe even if that is one exception. This is for fun, don’t take it too seriously. You’re welcome to fill in anything you think is missing. If I mentioned one of your favorite movies you have to reblog, I don’t make the rules.

I watched some Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! today, and it was pretty good. I'm still not a fan of the art style or character designs, but the show was enjoyable enough that I hardly thought about it. I'm glad I gave it a chance, and I'll probably be watching more of it.

Was...this episode a saw parody? I mean, the traps were actually dangerous compared to the other traps shown in any scooby Doo series. Besides the fact that there was something telling the gang what to do on something originally meant to play music (Radio, tapes). On top of all that it came out one year after the last chapter of saw.
