I decided to separate the playlist "new shoegaze from the UK and Ireland" and make two playlists out of it. This way, the spotlight can shine brighter and stronger on the bands and artists with shorter playlists - the respective playlists should be easier to listen to (and easier for me to handle). The original playlists for Ireland and the UK together became too large within a few months, I underestimated the variety and number of fantastic bands from both areas, for which I deeply apologise.

Therefore there are now two playlists - under the original link the playlist with "new shoegaze from Ireland".

And under a new link "new shoegaze from the UK". I sincerely hope that the likes for the original list will be retained and that the new playlist will be listened to and liked in the same way.

For the new playlist with new British shoegaze I am more than overwhelmed and delighted that the wonderful Hannah Robinson provided me with a photo for this cover, which captures the shoegaze vibe wonderfully. The dreamgazer/ harmony enthusiast from Newcastle oscillates between evocative indie rock and shoegaze brilliance. She is one of the most exciting new artists to watch.

Today is a celebration of love. But love is more than just affection, flowers, sweets and other gifts. Love is dedication and trust. Which is why we would like to take some time to share the history, love and dedication between Captain William Kidd and his beloved wife Sarah Kidd.

William married Sarah Bradley in 1691, despite the terrible rumors/misfortune that followed her. In that same year, he shifted his career to a merchant so that he could remain close and provide for his wife. After the death of Sarah’s second husband John Oort, William worked hard to settle the debt he had put on Sarah, helping her and her brother Samuel reclaim their ownership of their land.  William cherished Sarah and Samuel, and Samuel became like a son to him. Despite his restlessness to go to sea, William stayed within the New York area for ten years, helping Sarah raise their daughter. When news spread far and wide that Captain Kidd had turned pirate and was wanted, William did everything he could to protect his wife and daughter from that danger/disgrace. He hid them away among friends they had in the colonies, and debated taking his family and running for Caledonia to the south to ensure they wouldn’t be entangled in his affairs. He remained because he was convinced he could prove he was innocent, unaware that so much was stacked and rigged against him.

Sarah’s dedication to her husband matched his own - when William brought the idea to her for him to pursue a better career, he went to her and they made the agreement together. He left for London, seeking a position in the Royal Navy. When this failed and he was offered a privateer commission to hunt Pirates and French ships, she supported his career move all the same. When he finally returned home, over a year late on that voyage and now the most wanted man in England, she stood by his side and believed his innocence. She moved her family to Boston during the time period he was stuck in jail, working with their local friends to try and get him out. This went on for over a year until a ship finally arrived to take him to London for trial. To the bitter end, she could not free her husband, but still tried to bribe the captain with her valuable golden ring in exchange for his freedom. After Captain Kidd’s death, she remained her fourth husband. Despite finding new happiness with another, she named one of her sons after Kidd to honor his memory.

Rarely do we see examples in history where the wife was treated like an equal. In William and Sarah’s case, there is plenty of evidence that shows William respected and valued her opinion at every turn they took together. The bond between them was strong, despite the world ripping them apart.

Not the first thing I'm thinking when Georgia has the pride flag in her vday post (bless her) being "ah, Michael :)"

Hi, Anons! (Grouping all these together since they're related.)

I did indeed see Georgia's Valentine's day post, and thought it was quite interesting. (It's here, for those who haven't seen it yet.) And let's get a few visuals up so we can discuss:

My first thought was that this appears to be Georgia's card to David, rather than David's card to her (which I think is what you were thinking it was, Anon #1). But we can see him holding it, and also the message on it seems more like Georgia's style than his (to me, at least). Interesting, though, that she shared both their cards last year, but only the one this time around.

I also found it curious that Georgia put the pride flag in her post, especially without any context. I know that it certainly could be because of the volatile atmosphere around gay/trans rights in the UK (particularly the horrific murder of Brianna Ghey), but Georgia posted a picture of Brianna in her Insta story yesterday, so I'm not sure the pride flag was related to that. It could also be a sign of support for Wilf...but I can't help thinking that it's somehow for David, too. Even if it's not said aloud, or specifically named, it's just...there, you know?

So I totally get you thinking of Michael, because that crossed my mind, too. I could so easily see Michael and David wishing each other a Happy Valentine's Day, and getting each other sweet little gifts. Nothing flashy or expensive, and certainly nothing "traditional" (flowers, chocolates, etc.), but something that is meaningful to them specifically. Like David getting Michael an autographed copy of his favorite Stephen King novel, or Michael getting David a pair of rainbow cufflinks or a childhood toy he'd always wanted but would never buy for himself.

(I could also see David giving Michael one of these cards:

...Or heck, either of them giving the other any one of several of these hilarious and cute Valentine's cards for same-sex couples.)

But yes...like you, Anon #2, I did notice the lack of a post from AL, and I also found it telling. It was pointed out to me by @invisibleicewands earlier that several folks spotted Michael in Cardiff today, so it does make one wonder whether he and AL were even together for V-Day. Whatever the case may be, to your point, Anon #3, I'm actually glad AL didn't comment on Georgia's post, because I'd rather no comment than some insincere, PR-laced sentiment that continues pushing the disingenuous "AL and Georgia are BFFs" narrative.

I do think AL has very much been trying to model herself after Georgia and her and Michael's relationship after GT and DT's for the last few years, but with limited (if any) success, especially given how much more attention Georgia's "other wife" posts have gotten than anything AL has ever posted. So it would not surprise me if AL was slightly jealous of or annoyed by Georgia's post (or more precisely by the fact that she had nothing to post next to it).

As for Michael dressing more like David, I assume you're referring to the ridiculous shirt Michael wore on Australian TV in December, but I'm not so sure I agree. Michael used to dress much more flamboyantly than he does now (top hats, onesies, and blue fur-lined paisley ponchos all come to mind), so if anything, I'd say Michael wearing that shirt was him dressing more like himself, rather than David. (I could definitely see David stealing that shirt from him, though.)
