For today's #FragmentFriday, a large historiated initial, possibly Spanish, cut from an antiphonary page. The initial shows Mary holding Jesus and giving a rosary to a saint, presumably Saint Dominic. The other side is a fragment of musical notation. The parent manuscript must have been quite large, used by a community rather than an individual. (Manuscript Fragment Collection, Ms. Coll. 591, Folder 15)

i feel like the tumblr perverts need to be aware of the forcefem novel written in 1901 by a trans woman patient of magnus hirschfeld, wherein:
a lesbian hypnotises her girly stepson into believing he is a woman
then she hypnotises his father her husband into shooting himself when he tries to stop her
then she proceeds to live as a man and convince her stepson that he is HER WIFE
AND THEN WHEN THE COUPLE WANT KIDS (AS SHE HYPNOTISED HIM TO) SHE HAS HIS CHILD AND CONVINCES HIM THAT HE GAVE BIRTH TO IT
AND DECIDES TO RAISE THE BABY AS A GIRL EVEN THOUGH IT WAS BORN MALE
AND THEN FINALLY ON HER DEATHBED CONFESSES EVERYTHING TO HER WIFE
WHO REFUSES TO BELIEVE ANY OF IT
the author's pen name is luz fraumann (yes she actually named herself "woman-man") and i wish i could tell her she's literally insane for this bestie and also how hard she would do numbers on tumblr dot com
(link to hirschfeld's profile of fraumann and extract from her novel, in german)
#queer history#trans history#queer literature#history#also#incest mention#i guess 😭 to be on the safe side#also the pronouns i used for the characters here are actually wrong#because the “lesbian” is explicitly noted to eventually consider himself a man#and the stepson/wife obviously considers herself a woman#and when the characters are living as these genders they are referred to with masculine and feminine pronouns respectively in german#but i tried to write the post to reflect this and it quickly became horrendously confusing lmao so forgive me#anyway. luz fraumann. you were total verrückt for this girl#i feel like she sits at the same table as irene clyde lmao who is a whole other can of worms#but i see there are a couple of posts about beatrice the sixteenth on here already#the early 20th c trans girls were wilding!#ALSO I DIDN'T EVEN MENTION THAT THE STEPSON INITIALLY HATES HIS STEPMOTHER BECAUSE SHE DROVE HIS BIO MOTHER TO HER DEATH. The existence of Ratio's vertical pupils indicate that his species evolved as potentially apex ambush predators, while Aventurine's more diamond-shaped pupils suggest Avgins occupied a middle rung of the Sigonian food chain, with divided need to both track prey and maintain wide-angle vision to identify predatory threats. In this essay, I will--
#honkai star rail#aventurine#dr. ratio#2am shitpost coming atcha#but I do actually think one of the funniest things about Honkai Star Rail#that just never gets acknowledged#is that just about everyone comes from a different planet#with a long enough history that even if they were all initially human#they would have successfully genetically diversified into separate species#like every ship in Star Rail is an inter-species romance#and actually sitting down to think about the genetic science#behind some of these character design choices#makes it all ridiculously funny#catch Dr. Ratio back on his home planet lurking in the bushes#using that insane depth perception to slingshot his dinner into submission#😂😂😂#everything is funny if you apply too much logic to it

WOOD-ENGRAVED INITIALS FROM MILLER & RICHARD
Displayed here are some wood-engraved historiated and ornamental initials from the Edinburgh type foundry Miller & Richard. The foundry was established by William Miller in 1809. His son-in-law Walter Richard joined the firm in 1832. It remained in continuous operation until 1952 when matrices for a few types were acquired by Stephenson, Blake & Co.
The specimens shown here are from a Miller & Richard type sample book published in Edinburgh in the late 1870s.

You are not born a witch, you become one.
I’ve been seeing a reemergence of the narrative that everyone is “a witch deep down” or “there’s witchcraft in all of us” this just isn’t the case and never has been. While the opportunity is available to everyone…
Not everyone will or should take it.
Witch-fire is not passed down in the blood.
It is not a gift that lies dormant in every soul, waiting to be stirred.
Folklore and history, the ways recorded in stories and confessions, say otherwise:
The powers of the witch are not innate.
They are taken, offered, or bought.
And the price is always high.
Sometimes you are tempted,
sometimes you are desperate,
and sometimes you are simply lured to say yes.
Catherine Remy of Belgium in 1603, said the Devil came to her when she was in need. He offered her power, not with force, but a touch to the forehead and chest, freely accepted. After that, she could heal, curse, and know things no ordinary person should.
(Van Haverbeke, Les procès de sorcellerie à Tournai, 1895)
In 1579, Jeanne Harvilliers of France said a dark figure came to her at night and gave her oil and powder. She rubbed it on herself and flew through the air, transformed, and brought harm to those who wronged her. She said she served him in exchange for those powers.
(Jean Bodin, De la démonomanie des sorciers, 1580)
William Barton of Scotland, said he met a woman in the woods who gave him a new name and scratched a mark into his skin. after that, he could see what others could not. he renounced his baptism and gave her his soul.
(Pitcairn, Criminal Trials in Scotland, vol. 3)

This is the witch-fire.
The black flame.
The crooked gift.
It is not within you by birth, though there are those who are oil-blooded, born to burn.
The ones that are called to this dark art and are sought after by the witching spirits, those who can smell the petroleum flowing within.
But for the fire, you go out to find it.
You trade for it.
You are engulfed by it.
And the cost?
Your name, your soul. Your place in the world as it was.
This is one of the reasons why the witches of the past were feared, because this path didn’t happen to them, they chose it. They had given themselves over to the spirits, to the night, to the woods. They weren’t forced to do it, they made a conscious decision to accept it.
You aren’t born a witch.
You become one, when you say yes to the fire
and leave the rest of yourself behind, in ashes.

the escape, nicopolis 1396. — oh, nicopolis, i've so many thoughts about you. but among the many tales of sigismund's escape from nicopolis via danube, be it via fishing boat, fishermen or venetian ships, i've chosen to insert our dear lord toth into this scenario, according to KCD's lore. the blood, of course, symbolizes the great many military losses which occured in that battle, with king sigismund at the head of this crusade. and if you want to know more, i've done a fairly concise post about the battle of nicopolis here.
#istvan toth#sigismund of luxembourg#kcd2#kingdom come deliverance 2#kcd#kingdom come deliverance#kcd fanart#history#kcd meta#my art#as for the chaperon; i know istvan wasn't wearing it at that battle and am 99% sure of it but for the sake of clarity i chose to portray hi#with a chaperon because otherwise he'd be an unrecognizable blob#sigismund isn't wearing armour for the same reason#i did draw him in full on gilded armour initially but it was just visual clutter and added nothing to the composition#i also had to tone down the amount of sunken items in the danube no matter how much i love drawing various knight's helmets#so forgive me for these transgressions for the sake of artistic expression (:#gotta know the rules to break them and that i do#(guy who made two posts about nicopolis)

i never understood "you came here to help, solas, i won't let them use that against you" seeming to truly stir solas; it's stalwart morality, yes, ruthlessly benevolent, 5 stars he's humbled and appreciates #magerightsactivists etc. but he knows he's not as vulnerable as the herald assumes.
just remembered oh, right, veilguard confirmed he's a spirit in a body. denial of a spirit's purpose distorts it, which he condemns, his purpose could be used against him. right, yeah, per veilguard: he was a spirit; having arrived with a particular intent, he was vulne—
