Shitty 15 minute doodle done on the bus today because O Superman by Laurie Anderson came on my play list and I was like "This is so Furious Core"

Merciless's Second-In-Command

I can't recall if it was ever explicitly canonized that Wodensfang was Merciless's second-in-command during the first war, or if he was just chosen at random to kill Hiccup I, but with all the parallels between the stories of the Hiccups', and especially Hiccup I and Merciless compared to Hiccup III and Furious, I love the idea of young Wodensfang being to Merciless what Luna was to Furious.

#tried a new shading method here #i dont hate it #but it was very time-consuming #so i doubt ill do it often (if ever i do it again at all)#it was mainly because i wanted to make Wodensfang look very blue with the atmospheric lighting #and that's a pain to do with normal shading and an overlay #even though it took forever to do it was pretty fun tho #for the first time ever shading in that style I'm shocked at how good it turned out #even though you can barely tell he's a brown dragon under all that lol #which means this has a pretty fun flats vs render situation going on #httyd books #httyd books fanart #how to train your dragon books #Wodensfang #Seadragonus Giagantus Maximus #Amity Doodles

Some snapshots of the progression for my Toothless and Wodensfang designs.

These two were easily the most difficult designs for me to nail down, so they make for fun comparisons. Not to mention I accidentally ended up doing all of these almost exactly a year apart.

Figured I'd throw this out there because they're fun comparisons, here's my original designs for Horror and Merciless compared to my current ones

#fun fact! Potential design for Innocence, Arrogance and Patience

It's very simplistic, which I think can be good for more "main" dragons in the series, but also compared to some of the more varied designs I've made for other species it just makes them look very Generic Dragon, and I'd like to base them more on some real creature, like I've done with a lot of my other designs. I'm not quite sure what though.
