Forcing Google to spin off Chrome (and Android?)
Tumblr media
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this post to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/11/19/breaking-up-is-hard-to-do/#shiny-and-chrome
Tumblr media
Last August, a federal judge convicted Google of being "a monopolist" and acting "as one to maintain its monopoly." The judge concluded that key to Google's monopoly was the vast troves of data it collects and analyzes and asked the parties to come up with remedies to address this.
Many trustbusters and Google competitors read this and concluded that Google should be forced to share its click and quer y data. The technical term for this is "apocalyptically stupid." Releasing Google's click and query data into the wild is a privacy Chernobyl in the waiting. The secrets that we whisper to search engines have the power to destroy us a thousand times over.
Largely theoretical answers like "differential privacy" are promising, but remain theoretical at scale. The first large-scale live-fire exercise for these should not be something as high-stakes as Google's click and query data. If anything, we should delete that data:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/08/07/revealed-preferences/#extinguish-v-improve
The last thing we want to do is use antitrust to democratize surveillance so that everyone can spy as efficiently as Google does. In theory, we could sanitize the click and query data by limiting sharing to queries that were made by multiple, independent users (say, only sharing queries that at least 30 users have made), but it's unlikely that this will do much to improve the performance of rival firms' search engines.
Google only retains 18 months' worth of click and query data, thus once we cut off its capacity to collect more data, whatever advantage it has from surveillance will begin to decay immediately and fall to zero in 18 months.
(However: the 18 months figure is deceptive, and deliberately so. Google may only retain your queries for 18 months, but it is silent on how long it retains the inferences from those queries. It may discard your "how do I get an abortion in my red state" query after a year and a half, but indefinitely retain the "sought an illegal abortion" label it added to your profile. The US desperately needs a federal consumer privacy law!)
https://pluralistic.net/2023/12/06/privacy-first/#but-not-just-privacy
And just to be clear, there's other Google data that would be very useful to rival search engines, like Google's search index – the trove of pages from the internet. Google already licenses this out, and search engines like Kagi use it to produce substantially superior search results:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/04/teach-me-how-to-shruggie/#kagi
The DOJ has just filed its proposal for a remedy, and it's a doozy: forcing Google to sell off Chrome, on the basis that both of these are the source of much of Google's data, and no rival search engine is likely to also have a widely used browser:
https://9to5google.com/2024/11/18/us-doj-google-sell-chrome/
This represents something of a compromise position: the DOJ had initially signalled that it would also demand a selloff of Android, and that's been dropped. I think there's a good case for forcing the sale of Android as a source of data, too.
In competition theory, these selloffs are referred to as "structural separation" – when a company that provides infrastructure to other firms is prohibited from competing with those firms:
https://locusmag.com/2022/03/cory-doctorow-vertically-challenged/
For example, it used to be that banks were prohibited from competing with the companies they loaned money to. After all, if you borrow money from Chase to open a pizzeria, and then Chase opens a pizzeria of its own across the street, you can see how your business would be doomed. You have to make interest payments to Chase, and your rival doesn't, and if Chase wants to, it can subsidize that rival so it can sell pizzas below cost until you're out of business.
Likewise, rail companies were banned from owning freight companies, because otherwise they would destroy the businesses of every freight company that shipped on the railroad.
In theory, you could create fair play rules that required the bank or the railroad to play nice with the business customers that used their platforms, but in practice, there are so many ways of cheating that this would be unenforceable.
This principle is well established in all other areas of business, and we recoil in horror when it is violated. You wouldn't hire a lawyer who was also representing the person who's suing you. Judges (with the abominable exception of Supreme Court justices!) are required to recuse themselves when they have a personal connection with either of the parties in a case they preside over.
One of the weirdest sights of the new Gilded Age is when lawyers for monopoly companies argue that they can play fair with their customers despite their conflicts of interest. Think of Google or Meta, with their ad-tech duopoly. These are companies that purport to represent sellers of ads and buyers of ads in marketplaces they own and control, and where they compete with sellers and/or buyers. These companies suck up 51% of the revenue generated by advertising, while historically, the share taken by ad intermediaries was more like 15%!
https://pluralistic.net/2023/05/25/structural-separation/#america-act
Imagine if you and your partner discovered that the same lawyer was representing both of you in the divorce, while also serving as the judge, and trying to match with both of you on Tinder. Now imagine that when the divorce terms were finalized, lawyer got your family home.
No Google lawyer would agree to argue on the company's behalf in a case where the judge was employed by the party that's suing them, but they will blithely argue that the reason they're getting 51% of the ad-rake is that they're providing 51% of the value.
Structural separation – like judicial recusal – comprehensively and unarguably resolves all the perceptions and realities of conflict between parties. The fact that platform owners compete with platform users is the source of bottomless corruption, from Google to Amazon:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/11/28/enshittification/#relentless-payola
In other words, I think the DOJ is onto something here. That said, the devil is – as always – in the details. If Google is forced to sell off Chrome, rather than standing it up as its own competing business, things could go very wrong indeed.
Any company that buys Chrome will know that it only has a certain number of years before Google will be permitted to spin up a new browser, and will be incentivized to extract as much value from Chrome over that short period. So a selloff could make Chrome exponentially worse than Google, which, whatever other failings it has, is oriented towards long-term dominance, not a quick buck.
But if Google is forced to spin Chrome out as a standalone business, the incentives change. Anyone who buys Chrome will have to run it as a functional business that is designed to survive a future Google competitor – they won't have another business they can fall back on if Google bounces back in five years.
There's a good history of this in antitrust breakups: both Standard Oil and AT&T were forced to spin out, rather than sell off, parts of their empire, and those businesses stood alone and provided competitive pressure. That is, until we stopped enforcing antitrust law and allowed them to start merging again – womp womp.
This raises another question: does any of this matter, given this month's election results? Will Trump's DoJ follow through on whatever priorities the current DoJ sets? That's an open question, but – unlike so many other questions about the coming Trump regime – the answer here isn't necessarily a nightmare.
After all, the Google antitrust case started under Trump, and Trump's pick for Attorney General, the credibly accused sexual predator Matt Gaetz, is a "Khanservative" who breaks with his fellow Trumpians in professing great admiration for Biden's FTC chief Lina Khan, and her project of breaking up corporate monopolies:
https://www.thebignewsletter.com/p/trump-nominates-khanservative-matt
What's more, Trump is a landing strip for a stroke or coronary, which would make JD Vance president – and Vance has also expressed his approval of Khan's work.
Google bosses seem to be betting on Trump's "transactional" (that is, corrupt) style of governance, and his willingness to overrule his own appointees to protect the interests of anyone who flatters or bribes him sufficiently, or convinces the hosts of Fox and Friends to speak on their behalf:
https://www.mediamatters.org/donald-trump/comprehensive-review-revolving-door-between-fox-and-second-trump-administration
That would explain why Google capo Sundar Pichai ordered his employees not to speak out against Trump:
https://www.businessinsider.com/google-employees-memes-poke-fun-company-rules-political-discussion-2024-11
And why he followed up by publicly osculating Trump's sphincter:
https://twitter.com/sundarpichai/status/1854207788290850888

𑣲 the beauty of imperfection I @missdictatorme
Nathan figured having a personal assistant wouldn't hurt. He was wrong. She was a pain in the ass. Also she was so different from his robots (he no longer have because one tried to kill him). But she was also... fascinating
𑣲 influencer!reader I @/missdictatorme
𑣲 mama bear I @/missdictatorme
You have only one rule, that none of Nathan’s AI androids can interact with your newborn daughter. Nathan thinks you are too suspicious and overreacting. But what happens when one of his creations doesn't obey?
𑣲 in plain sight I @nathanbatemanfucker
for someone who’s all about AI, blanks stares and obedient droids, your likeness to them is driving him crazy.
𑣲 shut up, kid I @hoedamn-eron

Nathan Bateman is maybe the smartest man in the world. But that doesn’t mean he has the common sense that god gave a can of green beans.
𑣲 accidental kiss I @youvebeenlivingfictional
𑣲 fake dating I @/youvebeenlivingfictional

“To what extent are we culpable? If there is forethought, is it traceable  through code? At what point are humans no longer responsible for their  creations?”
𑣲 magnetic I @/youvebeenlivingfictional
Now that you’ve met him in person, Nathan Bateman is everything and nothing like you’ve expected.
𑣲 rubber ducky, you're the one I @/youvebeenlivingfictional
The last time he got roped into one of these celebrity auctions, Nathan wound up spending six stupefying hours with a Kardashian, trying to explain why they couldn’t launch their own crypto, ‘K-Coin’, without plans for a public exchange. This? This is way more interesting, but just as mystifying.
𑣲 that algo is fucking scuffed part 2 I @/youvebeenlivingfictional
It’s Nathan Bateman’s business card, with all of his contact information on it. But there’s a small hand-drawn → on the bottom. You flip it over and read: Thanks for the fix. Your rate seems reasonable. Looking for a job? -NB
𑣲 the logical progression part 2 I @/youvebeenlivingfictional
Maybe it was better that you didn’t meet Bateman until you were further along in your time at Blue Book. By the time you did, you were much more self-assured, knowledgeable, and far less afraid to challenge authority. You hadn’t gotten to where you were by being a shrinking violet.
𑣲 this didn't happen I @/youvebeenlivingfictional
Had you gone to the conference planning to sleep with Nathan Bateman? No. Had you? Yes. Were you regretting it? Absolutely.
𑣲 chase and pull I @leoluved
nathan likes when you get jealous, but he gets upset when he gets a taste of his own medicine.
𑣲 dear diary, i met an asshole I @writefightandflightclub
𑣲 uninvited I @/writefightandflightclub
Nathan attends the Met Gala, but there’s something missing. That’s you.
𑣲 post script I @leiakenobi
It took nearly a month after the company funeral for a pair of suits to show up at your door and say, “We’re here to discuss the Bateman estate.”
𑣲 almost lost you I @softboywriting
It takes Nathan nearly dying to realize he loves you, but he needs to know you feel the same and will take some unnecessary steps to find out instead of just asking you.
𑣲 an ordinary business proposal I @freelancearsonist
𑣲 pink interference I @milkypompon
Nathan made you a period tracker... but it's nothing you'll find on the public market.
𑣲 doppelgänger I @brandyllyn
You’re invited to Nathan’s house after ‘the incident’ to test his new AI. A masc one this time. Of course Nathan made it in the form of the most perfect man he knows, himself.

VPNs aren't just for pirates and company data anymore
A friend complained to me that they couldn't access pr0n anymore because the government is now requiring ID to verify age where they are, and due to data leaks and privacy issues, didn't want to share their ID even though they're of legal age.
Shit like this doesn't work on the intended target. It only frustrates people who are aren't tech savvy while a lot of kids have already found their way around it because that's what kids do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
When I talk about VPNs (virtual private networks), non-tech savvy people's eyes glaze over 😂
It sounds like complicated, unknowable magic. It's not! And you don't even have to understand it to use it!
With the government and ISPs (internet service providers) invading privacy more and more and hackers breaking in and stealing user data from companies, VPNs are becoming necessary.
Some Things a VPN Does for You:
hides your data from others
can make your internet speeds faster if your ISP does speed throttling (purposely making your speed slower)
hides what you're doing from your ISP
keeps you safer from some malware, viruses, hackers, and trackers
allows you to access things that are either restricted in your area or not available in your area (such as content in other countries)
keeps you safer when you're out in public connected to wifi
Below is a basic infographic on how VPNs work. When you access the internet, a VPN encrypts your data - making it into a secret code that can't be read by anyone else including your ISP.
Tumblr media
Tech companies, ISPs, etc. want you to think VPNs are complicated so that you won't use them.
When searching for a free VPN, please be aware that a lot of the free VPN services out there are malware or full of viruses and trackers.
Either do some research into which one to choose or use a paid VPN service. You can either pay monthly or yearly - the yearly is always cheaper in the long run.
Some of the Top Rated VPN Services:
ExpressVPN $7 - $13/month
NordVPN $3 - $13/month
Surfshark $2 - $14/month
PrivateInternetAccess $2 - $12/month
ProtonVPN (some sites block this one) $4 - $10/month
CyberGhost $2 - $13/month
I use ExpressVPN, so for the purposes of this post, I'm going to use screenshots from ExpressVPN.
Once you have an account, download the program from the website to your desktop/laptop or find the app on Android or iOS app stores.
Signing in requires a code that the VPN will email to you that unlocks all the features. Pay attention when the program installs because it'll ask you about preferences, and you can easily check yes on blocking pr0n when that's the reason you wanted a VPN in the first place 😂
When the program is open, you'll see this:
Tumblr media
As you can see in the screenshot, not only do I have the program, but I have an ExpressVPN icon on my browser. The program installs this automatically, and when the program is running, the icon will have a green checkmark on it so you know it's working in your browser.
You'll notice I've recently connected using Japan. I did this so I could watch a series that isn't available outside of Japan.
The program automatically chooses a location near you, but if you want to access things that are restricted to you, make sure you click on the three dots to the right of the selected location (see screenshot below) and search for a state/country/place that your content will be available in.
Tumblr media
Once your location is selected, click on the start/power button, and you'll get a popup notification from your computer that ExpressVPN is connected.
Go to the site you want to use and use it like you normally would.
Here's what it should look like when it's running correctly:
Tumblr media
Keep in mind that if you leave a VPN running all the time (which is perfectly fine to do), search engines like Google will assume you live wherever ExpressVPN tells it you live, so searching for "stores near me" will give you results that aren't close to you.
When you're done using the VPN, just hit the power button again and it shuts off.
I use this on all my handheld devices, my desktop, and my laptop for business and personal reasons. I'm a pirate, and I've been using VPNs for a long time, yet none of the ISPs I've used have ever given me a warning about torrenting.
Good luck, and enjoy all the new things you can access!
BTW for anybody wondering, my desktop wallpaper is a map of the world's time zones. So pretty!! 😍

@volegne inquires restricted data ( accepting ! ) ∘ ∘ ∘ give us some songbird lore - ! what are her thoughts regarding her codename; does she like it, resent it? How did she get it? where does songbird begin & so mi end?
Tumblr media
𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃 is a construct, deeply rooted, tangled, in identity, performance, and survival. a codename she had to adapt to in order to distance herself from her humanity. designed to place emphasis on elegance and deception. 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃 sounds beautiful, gentle, like something harmless, and that is what makes it so insidious. she does not get used to the name right away, but it is the one most people hear about her first. the first impression. she must be a program, an android, anything but a human, 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃 is just a nickname, an alternation.
and she cannot even sing! though songs carry secrets in their lyrics, encoded. when she uses her voice, she manipulates, seduces, and extracts. her body an instrument, her mind a vault. people she passes by no longer see her as one of them. she is an asset that can echo the right tune to open doors, sway officials, or distract a kill squad for long enough to reroute their tracker. an alienation from her own identity. sure, in the beginning, it feels special. the heavy reverence with which many approach her. a bit mysterious. but over time the glamour cracks, splinters off like paint on unattended porcelain. only then does she realise that 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃 does not sing a melody to anyone, but is the mask that is forced onto her. a cage, even if it is gilded.
i like the name, i don't like it… 𝐒𝐎 𝐌𝐈 has no clear answer to that. even if one were to ask her, grab her by the collar, shake her, in the hope that something would fall from her mouth. she might offer a wry smirk and say something noncommittal, like ❝ it suits me. ❞ or ❝ it has this hopeful touch, doesn't it? ❞
but one thing is certain: she loathes the name for what it has cost her. how easily people let themselves be manipulated by it and give more attention to the construct behind it than to the person who has to carry it. 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃 is, for some, a warning, an objectification, a symbol of power, precision, and operations. and if they see her tag, it is already too late, cold sweat and confusion, because when the name appears, there are definitely no good tidings.
maybe she wants that, wants people to know they are being watched, exploited, and sacrificed, all in the name of the fia and 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃. even though she wields her name masterfully, she never finds peace with it, with how it distorts her.
and yet, here is a flicker of pride, reluctant but real, blooming in the hollows of her chest like something half-buried and stubbornly alive. not pride for what the name was meant to signify, no, never that. but for what she endured beneath it. for the weight she carried when no one was looking. for the blood she swallowed, and the silence she stitched into her own mouth. she bears it like a brand, and then, she remakes it.
she does not wear 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃 with grace. she forged it. folded it around her fury, her brilliance, her sharp, brutal will to survive. takes what is given to her like a curse and speaks it back like a threat. let the name become a blade, honed and gleaming. no longer a symbol of innocence, or beauty, or something soft enough to cage. now it means danger. it means precision. it means vengeance sung in code and blaze.
𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃 is the blade, silent, gleaming, honed by hands not her own. the ghost in the satellite feed, the voice that slips between frequencies like a lullaby before the storm. she is the traitor and the saviour both, crafted with such precision that even her lies sound like truth. her face can mimic affection, her voice is a scalpel, soft, sharp, necessary. that part of her still waits, coiled deep in her chest like a serpent in the dark, patient and unblinking. she can feel it even now, humming beneath her ribs, ready to strike when things fall apart.
but 𝐒𝐎 𝐌𝐈, 𝐒𝐎 𝐌𝐈 is what is left behind when the mission ends. she is the cost. the shadow after the explosion. the weight in her lungs when she breathes and it still hurts. she is the girl who never learned how to be anything outside of usefulness, or forgot about it. who once believed silence was strength and obedience was affection. she wakes from dreams slick with static, still wired into the neural matrix, still bleeding secrets into the void. her hands tremble in the quiet, when there is no one around to see. not fear. not weakness. just memory.
she is trying. damn, she is trying. peeling back layers with trembling fingers, as if beneath them there might still be something tender, untouched. she scrapes at the armour until her knuckles bleed, whispering her name like it might anchor her to the ground: 𝐒𝐎 𝐌𝐈. not a code. not a call sign. not a weapon.
and yet, on the nights when the lights dim and the hum of night city lulls into something nearly like peace, she finds herself reaching for the sharpness. for the clarity. for the certainty that comes with being 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃. because 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃 always knows what the next move is. 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃 has purpose, direction, a path carved in blood and precision.
𝐒𝐎 𝐌𝐈 has only questions. and skin too soft. and a heart she cannot seem to silence. it frightens her, this return to something human. this helpless unmaking. because in the quiet, she is no longer someone’s instrument. she is herself. and she is terrified she will not be enough.
( 𝐁𝐎𝐍𝐔𝐒 dedicated to the mellow moon in the sky. )
already the first time, he emphasises it differently. different from how people usually say it. the second time, she wants to correct him. wants to correct him, but does not know what exactly. she hears it. he says it. 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃. 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃? that is not my name. song, are you there? you’re getting us worried, girl.
it feels like a blackout. in the hours that follow, she hears her name in every variation. they plead, they beg, and they warn. for some, it is the last thing they say. but v stays persistent. always the same, always the same. 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃. 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃. it nearly drives her crazy.
at first, it is silence. the kind of silence that wraps itself around the tongue like a second skin, protecting you from saying too much. sharing only the necessary bits. she has worn that silence for years, carried it like a shield through every briefing, every mission, every breathless sprint away from who she used to be. people talk about betrayal like it is a knife you hold in your hand, but the worst betrayals come from letting someone see what makes you soft.
he does not ask with the hunger most people have, that desire to know you so they could pin you to the wall like a trophy. he watches, instead. listens with the kind of stillness that makes her think, he is not trying to take something from me. and that is rare. dangerous. terrifying. especially, with the countdown strapped to his life. he should be in a hurry.
names she has not spoken since they burned her file. decisions made in rooms with no windows. every time she thinks she will choke on it, he waits. bears witness. he does not fix it. he does not try to. and that is what makes her trust him. he knows some ruins are not meant to be rebuilt. only remembered. seen.
❝ i'm with you, 𝐒𝐎 𝐌𝐈. ❞
finally, it does not feel like drowning anymore. it feels like surfacing.
a love letter to @psychescape's vince and his ever-flowing adoration, which so mi reciprocates ♡

I hope Markus ain't got no secret deactivation or reset code that works even if deviancy turns all these things off.
Although i don't think he's like Connor (who still being monitored and can be accessed after deviating) i still, idk, sus. That's the disadvantage of being an android - you're made of programs, a system built by humans. Not to mention the fact the digital realm is really easier to manipulate.
Kamski programs got failsafes and manual controls in emergency situations. I supposed it would be used in android's favor but who tf knows the extent of defenses, AI access and control over these systems.
Things like the tracker stops working for the majority after deviancy and i don't think they ever tracked Markus even if he's a prototype from a shady project so i guess it's the same rule for other things. Either Markus didn't have these systems or they were removed the moment he became Carl's android. Well, would be very convenient cuz Kamski didn't remove things like preconstruction, combat and conversion systems.
All i hope is no one can ever control Markus, i hope if he had any "android weak point" of these they were "removed" or made in a way no one can tamper with even if they try hard - not even using another AI. But i fear what they achieved with the Connor series...
... i hope ain't the case.

Jesse Winters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(link to the picrew used at the bottom)
Jesss originated as an OC from a Bendy and the Ink Machine AU, but not much has changed about him since. His theme is still very geared towards sci-fi (it was a distanced setting for the AU) and he is still the portal jumping multiverse explorer that I originally loved.
His story now is different.
The multiverse houses an infinite number of threats to go with it's infinite spanse. Some more intelligent than others. This story starts with an empire, branched out over many realities, with absolute power over whatever they conquered. Their secret was mass production of androids, very specifically designed to replace living soldiers. They were made to look like the beings they represented, and to function with a full scope of emotion (for self preservation reasons), but still operate under infallible programming that would be impossible to instill in a living mind. Not to mention, extremely unethical.
At some point a project was set up, the goal being simple; to create an android that was powered by a soul, rather than batteries or a power cord. Something that functioned with both science and magic. They chose a soul that typically resided within a demon, and was particularly difficult to get ahold of or replicate, called a shadow type soul. More on that later. They made an android, to a greater quality than some of the others, and he was going to be the leader of the newly established Phantom Unit.
Things were going well, the beta android was very nearly complete with his training and was about to be sent into practical use with a team and everything.
A spy hijacked the ship he was being transported on, and got him somewhere where androids were... rehabilitated. Their trackers cut out, any defining programming removed, their independence enforced. Anything else on the ship was destroyed.
Jesse picked up his name later on, and at first, he went by Phantom, as a nod to his old purpose, as well as a testament to his skill set. The shadow magic that powers him is also his greatest weapon. He has been on the run ever since- at first, it was a matter of retrieving him. But as Phantom's reputation grew, it became a power struggle. He was moving beyond someone they labeled as a terrorist that could be hunted down as a success story- now he was a message about what people's tax dollars were doing!
They'd made a very expensive mistake, and the longer this new "Phantom Viper" continued to run circles around them, the less credit they got for failing to reign that mistake in.
Jesse himself is charismatic and lovable. He's got a strong hate for authority, but a lot of patience for anyone who just.. doesn't know any better. He genuinely hates the idea of having to kill anyone except for the higher-ups in the empire, and he's trying hard to be more than what he was made to be. He has no interest in being a weapon, though he's fantastic at self defense, by now having several hundred years of experience and the original combat training under his belt.
He's 6'4", openly and proudly homosexual, and has very strong paternal instincts- that he's responsible enough to suppress. He lives a life of danger and risk, he's not dragging a kid along with him and he's not going to just leave a kid to fend for themselves either. He wouldn't let himself be more than helpful unless he had a partner, and in many canons, he does!
@im-gonna-eat-your-eyes is the owner of Eightball, who later turned into Fate-! Jesse met Eightball and.. well, one thing led to another. Jesse continues to go on adventures, but he now has a home that he can return to and a family he can rely on.

"Hmm… I think I know a fellow performer when I see one. Good with your words? Know just the right thing to say at the right time?" - Magnolia
I recently went back to Good Neighbor for the first time in ages because I remembered that failing that Bobbi heist is the key to companionizing Hancock (I'm "collecting" all of the companions, like one collects action figures of a set). Plus McGravy will sell me his soul for literally less cash than a crate of fresh water, so, that's two down. McGravy went to live with Strong Mad at a Red Rocket upstate. He's very happy with lots of room to mope.
While I was there, the people of Good Neighbor begged, pleaded, dropped down on their knees and wept, "Oh great and mighty Sizz'el, won't you pose for a few tasteful photos on our woefully inadequate stage?" (I was really impressed Bethesda went to all that effort to program that, to be honest with you, but the game crashed twice during this photoshoot, so... not too impressed.) So, I put on my hottest shit, hit the stage, and the place... basically stayed the same. Which is exactly what they do when Magnolia is performing, so, rousing success, I guess. Magnolia seemed jealous of my undeniable slam dunk, but then she realized that I was down to clown and decided that was a fair consolation prize. The people in this wasteland are funkin' off, I swear.

The outfit is TheKite's Handmaiden Set (opens in new tab): TheKite makes a lot of... Uh, outfits, so, viewer discretion is advised. But gosh do I love the Handmaiden Set, absolutely fantastic work.
I am very unsure where I want to go next with this character: as my little status tracker thing lets you know, I'm basically coming up to the edge of available content that can be explored without locking myself out of content from the other factions in the game. In a more traditional RPG, I think we'd be moving from Act 2 to Act 3*.
I think up next for me is the Railroad. The game is gonna force me to meet them if I go and talk to Virgil in his Plato's Cave anyway, so, might as well. I don't think the Railroad are interesting, or cool, or fun, or engaging, but like... just like in real life, in a simulacrum of a world, if you show me the militarized anti-slavery faction that exists to oppose forced labor in all facets... I'm gonna help them to the best of my abilities. Which always makes me feel pigeon-holed by the game when it comes to picking an ending. Like, it really is between the Minutemen and the Railroad, because the Brotherhood are techno-facists who've lost all interesting nuance as the series has developed, turning into essentially The Avengers, and the Institute is just stupid. The Institute doesn't approach even a fraction of the genuine and well-considered faction building of the early titles. You're telling me none of the people in this building have thought to just... re-purify the local ecology? Fallout 3 had the plot of a child's first superhero comic book but even that game recognized that a wasteland's first major concern would be ecological recultivation! And centered it's conflict around that concern! Fallout 4 is a power struggle over a resource-depleted ghost town, and "the boogieman" is just a bunch of nerds replacing people with Bladerunner androids with literally zero objective except to see what happens. Even if you side with the fuckers there's no secret folder labeled "THE BIG PLAN" that gets slid in front of you. They have no plan. They have no goal. They were written to be "the boogieman" first, and then they wimped out and tried to make them human and understandable and it falls flat in every way.
New Vegas showed us a version of this world that was already sanded down to the bare-essentials, where the Followers of the Apocalypse are just a friendly lil' bunch o' pals, and the factions of the Strip are just three bands of progressively more evil weirdos led by robo-Walt Disney, but if New Vegas is sanded down, Fallout 4 has been left overnight in a rock tumbler.
<Previous> . . . <Next>
*If I had to four act structure the game it would be: Act 1 is setting up all the players, Act 2 is asking us to side with one of them, Act 3 is the big lame twist about Shauwn that stretches the plot out a little further and provides one last "a-ha!" double cross chance, and Act 4 is Explosions & GET TO THE CHOPPAH & Heroic Music.

How to Catch a Cheating Girlfriend on Snapchat in 3 Minutes
Tumblr media
Today’s technologically advanced world has made cheating easier than ever. Mobile apps provide an opportunity to send and receive secretive messages. Snapchat is particularly synonymous with cheating as it allows users to send messages and files that can only be viewed once. If you’ve recently noticed a change in your girlfriend’s attitude, and she’s always on Snapchat, but you don’t know who she’s constantly chatting with, chances are she’s cheating on you. However, you can never be 100% sure until you see her Snapchat messages. A spy app is one of the best ways to discover the truth. This post highlights the best strategies for catching a cheating girlfriend in three minutes using SpyPhone.cc. Working Strategies for Catching a Cheating Girlfriend on Snapchat If you suspect your girlfriend is cheating on you, you can confront her without evidence or get definite proof that she’s cheating on you. The latter is a better method as it will help you make a better decision. Here are the best methods for catching a cheating girlfriend. Method 1: Use SpyPhone.cc Using a Spy app like SpyPhone.cc is the best and most effective method of discovering the truth. The app uses advanced technology to collect data from the target phone without their knowledge. With SpyPhone.cc, you can catch a cheating girlfriend on Snapchat. You don’t need to install the app on the target device, allowing for discreet monitoring, which is essential when looking for hard evidence. And if you find out that your girlfriend isn’t cheating, she’ll never know you spied on her, maintaining the trust between you and her. Features of SpyPhone.cc SpyPhone.cc provides a range of features to help you catch a cheating girlfriend. Let’s explore them. Discrete monitoring—If your girlfriend is overprotective of her phone and often places it face down, SpyPhone.cc allows you to monitor her Snapchat messages without touching her phone. The app operates stealth mode; no icon appears on your target’s phone. Real-time monitoring—SpyPhone.cc allows you to monitor your girlfriend’s real-time Snapchat messages. This makes it always easier to watch her best friends list. New additions to the list could be a sign of cheating. GPS location tracking—One of the most common signs of a cheating girlfriend is a disabled location on Snap map. SpyPhone’s GPS location tracking lets you monitor their location on a detailed map. Comprehensive features—SpyPhone.cc provides comprehensive monitoring of multiple apps, including social media, SMS, web browsers, and more, ensuring you’re always in the know. How to Set Up SpyPhone.cc SpyPhone.cc is one of the easiest apps to use. You don’t even need to touch the target phone. The app works seamlessly with Android and iOS devices, allowing cross-platform monitoring and following these steps to monitor your girlfriend’s Snapchat with SpyPhone.cc. Visit SpyPhone.cc and create an account. You’ll need a working email address. Select the device you want to monitor (Android or iOS). The app does not support Snapchat monitoring on Android devices, but we should expect this functionality shortly. Verify the connection between SpyPhone.cc and the target devices with a cloud account. Log into your SpyPhone.cc account to access your dashboard. Start monitoring your girlfriend’s Snapchat messages Besides Snapchat messages, you can access different data types on SpyPhone. These include sent and received SMS, call logs, photos, videos, browser history, WhatsApp messages, Social Media apps, and others. To explore more about the app's features, check out the comprehensive review of SpyPhone, which delves into its capabilities as the top cheating spouse tracker. Method 2: Screen recording Setting up a recording of your screen is quite an easy and effective option to save the messages on Snapchat before they are lost forever. Most new smartphones have this feature in their settings; if yours doesn't, you may download any third-party application from your app store to serve your motive. First of all, you need to enable the screen recording feature. For example, you can add it to the Control Center via settings on an iPhone. This option is available on Android in the Quick Settings panel or through an application like AZ Screen Recorder. After setting up screen recording, enter Snapchat and record all the messages you want to save. Scroll through the conversations and let the screen recorder capture everything in real-time. Record all essential snaps and chats in real time before they disappear. After recording, stop the screen recorder and save your video. Later, you will be able to play back what you have captured. Snapchat will notify the sender when it detects a user recording something on their screen. This might be something you wish to consider before following this option. What To Do When You Discover She’s Cheating on You Handling betrayal from someone you cherished and invested time and money in can be very painful. Many people find it difficult to accept that their partner is having an affair. Here are tips to keep in mind Break it off—It might not be easy, but you must end the relationship for your good. Delete her number, photos, videos, and anything related to her. Move to a new apartment and start a new life. Work on yourself—Once you end the relationship, start working on yourself. You want to be a better version of yourself when you start a new relationship, Join a ‘tribe’ of men—Get out of the house and join a tribe of men who inspire you to become a better version of yourself. Conclusion If you suspect your girlfriend is cheating on you, you must find out the truth before asking her. Otherwise, you risk damaging the trust in the relationship. The best way to know the truth is using SpyPhone.cc to monitor her Snapchat messages. The app is traceless and doesn’t require installation on the target device. With the app, you can view all her messages and files without her knowing. This way, you can decide based on the evidence you’ve gathered. Read the full article

This is Logis!
Tumblr media
His option on the poll isn't posted yet and won't be for a while, so I'll have to give all the information on him that I have.
I'm afraid I can't really linearly separate character information from world lore, so this may read a little weird...
the life and legal status of Androids in the Lazuli Empire (the one described in Adrian and Clair's entries) is complicated. for this setting they are people, but since the only way to make them is to build them, finding a balance between keeping android manufacturing profitable enough so they don't die out while restricting it enough to keep them ethically treated is so tricky even androids are divided on it.
selling generic models (like Clair) is allowed, but they're granted independence after 18 years. what most people consider the most ethical option to be is to build them yourself, which Logis was.
Logis is basically a super-computer hidden in a clock-making droid built to help the Night Lights' mission of exposing government secrets.
Another one of the big BIG, issues with Android life is that they're all constantly tracked. removing trackers is illegal. androids often get damaged or contract viruses from trojans when they try to get trackers removed by scammers.
so when Logis isn't making clocks or investigating cases, he works as a doctor/mechanic for androids dealing with trackers and other problems they can't get fixed conventionally.
Most androids can feel a wide range of emotion, but Logis doesn't, and he doesn't have much in the way of personal beliefs or morals (aside from what he was programmed with) either. So while he's generally very kind, it's really just because he doesn't care to be mean.
but he does have interests and passions! he appreciates art, especially mathematical art, to the point where he has a Barnsley Fern engraving on his back.
the exact plot beat is still being worked on, but eventually he experiences an awakening that radically changes him, and he starts holding morals and beliefs and even experiencing more emotions.
OC PROPAGANDA!!! I WANT OC PROPAGANDA RIGHT NOW! Everyone show me the oc blorbo!!! I gotta know everyone's OCS tell me why you're spinning them around in your head!!! I want propaganda!!!
Please and thank you 🙏
