Flip this title....
……at last.
I finally found a program that can turn a PDF into sections to sew. So I can make some well proper books.
I’ll let you know when I make them

selected Moments out of a somewhat stressful rehearsal
“this is an F chord, and F is for Fabulous”
after rehearsal my section grandmother told me she wanted to meet with tita conductor for help on the modern piece (which she technically isn’t obligated to) and i let her know of the time of the other violin 2 intervention meeting and added i would be joining in to help so it wouldn’t be uncomfortable which she said “you’re so protective”
to which i faltered. because the phrasing of it kind of implied i was being protective against tita conductor. which, really, is doing nothing to help the “ooooh tita conductor scary and mean” situation.
like i know she criticized my sectionmate but come on. this is the guy who openly admitted to me that he only joined orchestra again because he knew he could hide behind my playing. and he is not exactly a reliable narrator
i joke about staying in the back and not wanting to be in front but AT LEAST I SING OUT. OR PLAY OUT.
wanted to let tita conductor know my section grandma would be joining us tomorrow morning at the other violin 2 intervention meeting and tita conductor’s said “could you tell it to me while i’m making copies?” and i assented
i asked tita conductor if she needed help carrying something because i had an extra hand and she said “yeah that box” and i was like “but i need two hands for…” but by then she was bustling out of the room so i was left to pick it up as best as i could 😭
followed her to the copy room (where a percussionist was on her laptop)
i said “just let me know when you’re ready to hear” and she said “well i’m not” and i said very placatingly “i know. that’s why i ask” and the percussionist stifled a giggle
tita conductor whisperer In The House!
tita conductor also revealed she had to go home and get her dog before coming back to school in the space of an hour and a half 😭 girl help, this poor woman…
went for dinner with viola friend and came back for the chamber music concert, which i spent the run-up to surreptitiously checking the door until tita conductor walked in
i think she would have come and sat in my row if it wasn’t almost full because she stood there staring for a few seconds at me and viola friend before choosing the row behind us with one of the older flute players
i tilted my head up and back and said “you made it!” to which she said “i made it!” with the most gentle smile
my oboe friend really was the crowning jewel of the whole thing. the string ensemble was… okay. like there were some good players. but the students were obviously learning. some parts were rough but they made it through
went home with a slight headache

hey guys i feel like really awful terrible even thinking this but i'm lowkey pissed tf off at my sectionmate because today during circle time the questions was "favorite movie/tv show" and ofc he went first, he's loud and popular and center snare, and of course he said "the og dead poets society" and i got mad as fuck because why the fuck does he like it. i KNOW he doesn't view it the same way i do. for him it's just his favorite movie but for me it has been my entire world since january. how am i supposed to explain the concept of a hyperfixation when that term isn't understood or accepted in society. how is he supposed to know that i can't go a day without thinking about dps or that my chest aches when i think about it too hard. how is he supposed to know that i spend hours with people who share this exact feeling when he's just a casual enjoyer. i'm 100% sure he's not even aware of the queer aspects of it, or fully grasps the depth of the lesson on conformity and society. how does he get to have it be his favorite movie, and why does he get to say it FIRST.
and what bothers me even more on top of this is how he said "the OG dps". bitch if you had half a foot in the doorframe of understanding this movie you would no there has never been a fucking remake. why would you say "the og". because it's old??? fuck you sorry i didn't mean that
and what am i supposed to do? infodump to him? he won't appreciate that he doesn't have time for that shit. what am i supposed to say, "so we agree that todd and neil are in love right?"? because i know he doesn't. i know he doesn't even know half the things that pound around my skull every day so why does he get to have it be his favorite movie.

go check out @nevgovhater's marching band headcanons. done with that? ok. good. time for orchestra headcanons.
gov is the conductor. i need not say anything else.
1. ALABAMA — second violin. just strikes me as the type. he doesn't like to sit in the front or back, he prefers middle of the section.
2. ALASKA — double bass. specifically 2nd chair. he has the skill to be principal bassist but he has zero interest in being a section leader.
3. ARIZONA — cello. not sure why. i think they started out as a violinist, decided it wasn't for them, and then switched over to cello. they sit in the second row. 3rd or 4th chair.
4. ARKANSAS — first violin. in the back. got put into this class on accident and just hasn't switched out. used to be a second violin but switched sections later on. his old sectionmates haven't forgiven him.
5. CALIFORNIA — started out playing the viola. could not get along with them (they play around too much for his taste). accidentally broke his shoulder rest and that was the crucible for him switching to cello. he's a cellist.
6. COLORADO — viola, middle of the section. half-asleep at most rehearsals. people outside of the viola section forget he's there. always has an unreasonable amount of pencils on his person, all his section borrows them. only time he is not stoned is at a concert.
7. CONNECTICUT — concertmaster/principal first violinist/first chair. the kind of guy who slowly turns and stares at you after a song during rehearsal if you fucked up a chord really bad. will get onto his sectionmates for not bringing their stuff and say something like "next time i'm just not letting you borrow it" but he always does. he's a provider to his section. he cares about them a lot. same with the rest of the orchestra. just wants everyone to do their best. also he has tiny erasers on him to chuck at florida when he won't pay attention.
8. DELAWARE — second violinist, second chair. not sure why. just is.
9. FLORIDA — ...principal violist. he is the bane of gov's existence. main guy who drove california out of the viola section by being too silly but keeps begging him to come back. he has referred to this incident as the "viola section divorce", much to california's irritation, but he's started playing into the joke as well. he's a really good player but cannot focus to save his life. takes the most incomprehensible sheet music notes you've ever seen. you can't read half the notes on his sheet music because he wrote over them in the process of marking it. really good teacher to his section outside of the joking around way too much.
10. GEORGIA — second viola, has been florida's stand partner throughout all of orchestra. one of three people who can decipher florida's music (the other two being florida and louisiana; louisiana isn't even in their section, but florida taught him viola for funsies). dozes off immediately after rehearsal ends, but not during it.
11. HAWAI'I — first violin, second chair. chats with delaware sometimes since they sit next to each other. the only person she trusts to borrow her tuner, rosin, or cloth is alaska (and, lately, rhode island).
12. IDAHO — second violin.
13. ILLINOIS — first violin. i think he plays cello at home though.
14. INDIANA — cello.
15. IOWA — ..cello. maybe.
16. KANSAS — second violin or cello.
17. KENTUCKY — second violin or viola.
18. LOUISIANA — viola, second chair. florida's stand partner. he holds onto everything except the sheet music (which is surprisingly the only thing florida does not lose). actually joined orchestra because florida kept pestering him to. he got really good really quick because he has prior music experience.
19. MAINE — back of the bass section.
20. MARYLAND — clarinet
21. MASSACHUSETTS — first violin.
22. MICHIGAN — second violin.
23. MINNESOTA — first violin.
24. MISSISSIPPI — viola or second violin.
25. MISSOURI — viola.
26. MONTANA — second violin.
27. NEBRASKA — cello.
28. NEVADA — cello or first violin.
29. NEW HAMPSHIRE — cello.
30. NEW JERSEY — second violin.
31. NEW MEXICO — viola.
32. NEW YORK — cellist. wishes he was a violinist or violist sometimes but you'd have to waterboard that information out of him because he makes fun of the upper strings all the time.
33. NORTH CAROLINA — second violin. used to be a viola but switched over because his brother kept pissing him off.
34. NORTH DAKOTA — first violin. also switched sections to escape his sibling (former second violinist).
35. OHIO — viola.
36. OKLAHOMA — viola.
37. OREGON — first violin.
38. PENNSYLVANIA — first violin.
39. RHODE ISLAND — principal bassist. first chair because alaska doesn't wanna be there. he is so much fucking smaller than his bass that it's outright comedic. he sits on the stool to play and his feet don't even come close to the ground. perfectly capable of carrying his bass strength-wise but the size of it makes it a bitch, so alaska helps him. sometimes hawai'i if alaska is busy.
40. SOUTH CAROLINA — viola.
41. SOUTH DAKOTA — second violin.
42. TENNESSEE — first violin.
43. TEXAS — second violin. picked up the violin and he is not a fan but he's been with it so long he just doesn't know how to switch instruments. wishes he was a cellist. stares longingly at the cello section. he is allergic to shifting.
44. UTAH — first violin.
45. VERMONT — second violin.
46. VIRGINIA — first violin.
47. WASHINGTON — first violin.
48. WEST VIRGINIA — viola.
49. WISCONSIN — first violin.
50. WYOMING — bass.

//i feel like fluff would be a band kid! mostly bc of the vibes. maybe she would be a flute kid or trick you into thinking she’s a flute kid but in reality she plays the oboe or clarinet. put this girl in a low-pressure orchestra, she deserves to experience the awesome feeling of being on the other side of the music <3 /lh
//(seriously! it feels amazing to stack a gorgeous chord with the rest of the musicians or nail a super tough section. but that’s just me rambling-)
//Oooo, interesting!
//She doesn't have very good coordination or breath control, but I can see her giving it a shot anyways. She deserves to do something and do it badly! Maybe she could at least improve her lungs somewhat, who cares if she's good at it.
//also i was a flute kid back in the day. but i wasn't very good and also my sectionmates would gossip about me and the trumpets would blast out my eardrums.

It is generally the case in classical and jazz music contexts ime that bass and percussion players tend to be the most intellectual and most interested in music as a whole and not just their instrument in specific. Violinists and trumpet players (hehe) with this personality trait tend to be the odd women out have trouble relating to our sectionmates

Note
The most important skills you learn in any kind of musical ensemble are:
1) miming playing your instrument when you don’t know the piece
2) frowning and pretending to be lost before making a note on your score (again when you don’t know the piece)
you are so right and may i add 3) making strong eye contact with your sectionmates and conductor to indicate you indeed know how far you are into your 60 measures of rest (you do not) (the rests are over and you missed your entrance 3 measures ago)

JOURNAL - DAY 3
Friday, I woke up late because I stayed up late again since there were no classes. When I woke up, I hurried to get ready because I had to go out to teach my sectionmates in our band. After teaching, I rested for a few hours because later on, we were going to play some music at a birthday celebration of a relative of our band's manager. After our performance, I went straight home to rest and sleep, preparing for a new day ahead tomorrow.

project sekai but they're band kids
leo/need
ichika would definitely be in the woodwind section, very likely alto sax. she joined to be with the rest of leo/need who now need a high sustained voice (see saki) to jam out together. she's not the greatest but she has a very solid and grounded sound.
saki started on trumpet (like her brother), but she ended up moving to percussion because her sickness prevented her from playing trumpet properly (disclaimer i know next to none of the lore past the very broad strokes so pls let me know if this wouldn't work for whatever reason). she would specialize in mallet percussion!
shiho would be that one bassoon player who's absolutely cracked at their instrument and is somehow also very good at several other instruments as well.
honami is percussion (duh) but unlike saki she specializes in timpani! she also does drumset for pieces that need it!
more more jump
minori would definitely play french horn cuz she heard haruka playing a french horn solo with like a youth symphony or something. she was terrible at it at first but she kept pushing and steadily got better and better until she got second chair horn (aka sitting next to haruka)
haruka, like i mentioned, has played horn for quite some time, having played with youth symphonies and entered solo competitions as well. she was on the verge of quitting for good before she heard minori practicing outside, and they both joined band together!
shizuku plays flute and has a knack for playing very pretty. especially her higher range is much less shrill than her sectionmates'. she sometimes plays the piccolo parts on the flute just for funsies.
airi plays tuba specifically cuz she reminds me of this one tuba player from my high school band. she's a very strong all-round player and leader of the low brass section.
vivid bad squad
kohane plays clarinet. this makes so much sense to me. but her playing would have been very thin and very weak, then it became more full bodied and warm after she met an and heard her playing.
an plays tenor sax, although she also knows alto sax and can play bari sax decently well if needed. she definitely has a lot of street jazz influence growing up on vivid street. she has written several duets for herself and kohane that she has yet to show her.
akito plays trombone. i feel like this doesn't need elaboration but he would have been one of *those* trombone players starting off in middle school, but after seeing a jazz trombone performance, he started to take it a lot more seriously, ending up on vivid street.
toya started out playing the oboe cuz of his father, but switched to euphonium after meeting akito, kind of as a way to support him but also to explore a new avenue and carve his own path. he also benefitted a lot under airi's leadership, and of course from being under tsukasa's wing.
wonderlands x showtime
tsukasa, as mentioned earlier, plays trumpet because of course he does. he would have been one of those kids obsessed with hitting the highest note but eventually developed into an outstanding and very well-rounded player, exercising a very high level of musicianship. he's also strong leader in the brass section along with airi. obviously he continues to play at such a high level because saki can't play trumpet anymore, and you can hear how he almost plays as two for some passages.
emu is a percussionist, and she is very focused on unpitched percussion (especially cymbals) because they make boom and crash sounds but also a plethora of other very interesting sounds. this is also why she was so excited to find the rest of wxs because there is only so much you can do as a solo unpitched percussionist.
rui plays bari sax but one of those saxophones who spends way too much time with the percussion section. he repairs and maintains the percussion instruments but also sometimes makes new instruments with crap he has lying around. he's also the go-to instrument repairman for everyone in the band because his supply of spare parts seems to have no end.
nene started on clarinet but eventually fell in love with the bass clarinet. at first her approach was to achieve the best blend with the ensemble but now she's also looking for ways to really make the bass clarinet shine in its own right.
25ji nightcord de
kanade plays horn but also has a very strong understanding of how all the instruments in the ensemble work together. as a result, she's also composed a few pieces for the band to play (every single one has driven the audience to tears).
mafuyu plays the oboe, according to her mother's wishes, but instead of switching instruments, kanade's compositions helped bring out the oboe in ways that helped mafuyu's individuality shine through.
ena would play flute. she'd be a very good player at her best but her sound is very affected by how tense she is, more so than others. she's VERY good at technical passages and every note is crystal clear.
mizuki is definitely a french horn player. their playing is good, but they're really in band to have a good time. they can often be found chatting with those around them, specifically the rest of the brass section and the saxes.
---
anyway my knowledge of sekai lore is rudimentary at best so i'd love to hear more thoughts on these. i might add the virtual singers at some point as well who knows.

Okay wait I have a prompt!!! If you wanna
So I've been reading a lot of fics recently that are in space aus, with the whole humans are deathworlders concept (idk how this is common across my fandoms but it is so I'm binging them lol). And I had an idea based on recent irl events.
The sides are in one of these aus, you can do whatever you want species wise HOWEVER, two of them are human. Neither speak Common (univeral language) particularly well, and it would also be funny if they both spoke English as a second language, so it's like a double language barrier. Human A is double jointed (whereever, I'm thinking fingers (finger tips and those middle joints specifically) bc that's where I'm doible jointed but it doesnt matter too much) and just kind of casually does something that you can't really do if you aren't double jointed. The alien sides are confused and a little concerned, but they aren't exactly experts in human anatomy so they figure it is probably okay given how Human A hasn't reacted. Human B (who is slowly becoming Virgil in my mind haha), however, freaks out because "what the fuck your hands should not bend that way??????" Now everyone is panicked, and Human A doesn't remember the English word, let alone the Common word, so he kind of tries to butcher an explanation that's not really at all comforting. Idk eventually he figures out how to explain it in English enough for Human B to figure out what's going on, he calms down significantly and while neither human knows how to explain to their alien friends what exactly is happening, they can tell them that Human A isn't hurt.
Brought to you by me stretching my fingers too far in band on accident and my sectionmates freaking out because apparently none of them have heard of double-jointedness, it was really funny haha
for sure

So I had this student last semester. We discovered that it was kind of a miracle we didn’t cross paths until he took my class.
Like I’ve been playing bass 12.5 years, he’s been playing 13. I played in symphonic band during my undergrad, he played with concert band a few times during one of those years. He knows one of my sectionmates from a gig a few years ago. Like I was winding down my activity the same brief time he was active in the local bass community. Everybody in the bass community knows each other. It’s WEIRD that we almost crossed paths that many times without actually meeting.
So tell me why I’m going through my phone notes today and see his name, wonder “why would I leave a grade note in this app?”, realize the note was from TWO YEARS AGO and was about THE BOTANICAL GARDEN??? Apparently he volunteered there and could tell me about the records kept on the rose varieties if I could find him.
And on one hand he would probably think it’s really weird to get an email from some random TA (that gave him a B) like “dude wtf how impressive is it that we’ve almost met like 8009 times over an even longer time span than we thought” but on the other hand I kinda want to let him know the offer to identify all those roses still stands.

so i graduated high school two years ago right. and i was also in marching band all four years (even covid, though it really fucked with my junior year season). it's been a few years, obviously, but i still try hard to make it to at least one show, both because i love the sport and also to show support for my old band and bandmates.
on to the point: my old sectionmate, Dylan, who was a sophomore when i graduated, is now in his senior year and even made Drum Major(!!!). im obviously super stoked for him, i remember telling him back when he was a freshie that i could see him being a DM and actively encouraging him to try when the time came. anyway, he's been keeping me updated on what shows were happening and when, so i finally got to see their show tonight!! it was amazing and i loved it and they got first place, and all the caption awards besides best colorguard (our cg has never been the best, tbh). when i left the stands to walk alongside the band as they were packing up, i got to say hi to Dylan and my old sectionmates, and they seemed genuinely excited to see me
its been awhile since people were actually excited to see me so it was nice, but im still so fuckin happy for them. even if i cant be part of the band anymore, itll always hold a space in my heart

so I oversimplified a bit in my last post bc I was in the middle of band practice;
I don’t know nothing about taking care of a cat. I volunteered at a cat shelter a few years ago. I just don’t know anything about owning a cat.
I want to get a cat someday, and someday that someday will become today. So the big thing here is is if someday is now today.
Thoughts on my end: pros of spontaneously getting a cat: cat
cons of spontaneously getting a cat: money since dad got his dog, he said he knows how good it is to have a creature at home so he’d help me with cat expenses, which is nice of him. But I can barely keep care of myself. I became convinced last week all my good had mold on it and got rid of it before realizing I panicked and was just stupid. How can I keep a Not-Me alive? Dad’s been doing this humaning thing for decades, I’ve been doing it for weeks.
pros of spontaneously getting a cat: I won’t be alone anymore
cons of spontaneously getting a cat: I’d probably have to be home more often, especially as she’s settling in.
pros of spontaneously getting a cat: spontaneity is something I need to practice more
cons of spontaneously getting a cat: adding to your household is probably not the time to be spontaneous
a friend of mine might be allergic, I think I recall her saying. I’ve texted her to ask, and if she is, no cat. At least, not now. If she’s not allergic, I’ll go ask the department member who sent the email for more info.
so what my poll post was trying to ask I guess: for those of you who got cats, how did you make that decision? What were the things you thought about as you made the decision? Do you have any advice? What do you wish you knew before adopting?
I might not abide by the poll results, but I’m taking any and all advice seriously bc this is probably the biggest decision I’ve had to make yet. My dad and sister are all in support, my mom and sectionmates are leaning no, and all have good reasons. I just want to not be hasty bc that’s not responsible and best for the kitty, and maybe the best decision is to let her go to someone else. But jeez I’d really like to be ready to have a cat!
(Btw shes 9 years old, spayed, and unfortunately had been declawed in her front paws. Her previous owner passed away.)

When i say “bass is life” i don’t mean it in a raver “i am having fun” way i mean i have three different kinds of basses laying around my one-bedroom apartment, an instinctual fixation on the bassline (or lack thereof) of every single song and a frankly embarrassing number of students and sectionmates I’ve formed lifelong familial bonds with
But also unce unce unce unce
