Hi there!

After another re-watch and the head to pay attention to the small details, perhaps I have reconstructed a possible

Timeline of Helluva Boss

It would be better to define them as hypotheses. First of all, here is an outline of the episodes and their release dates.

I know, I also included the one whose title we know, just for the sake of general overview. The theory for the moment covers 2 seasons out of 4 announced.

Here the synthetic timeline. From the estimate version I have removed the year here, we'll get to the reason.

Here I also report some of my thoughts:

Already from the first episodes there's a strong focus on clocks and time, it is much more striking in Oops, where Asmodeus' clock marks the whole day.

I'm not sure about the year, but also from the analyzes carried out later, 2021 could be the year of the narrative arc that goes from Murder Family to Ozzie's.

(*) The Verosika's tour t-shirt was official and linked to the episode, at the moment I'm undecided on its validity at the year level, althought the date could be very possible.

However, my research started with Seeing Stars because it's the first episode to feature an almost specific date: the 20th of a 30-day month.

In my opinion it could be April chronologically and it's agreed with the information in the subsequent episodes.

The only problem is that the full moon would't coincide with what was marked by Blitz.

Noteworthy:

Blitz's calendar suggests that the full moon that month is the 14th.

Stolas wrote in the Western Energy chat that Blitz was supposed to come that evening and that therefore the full moon was the 20th.

We are certainly either in 2021 or beyond given Moxxie's coin in Seeing Stars.

From the chat we can understand that:

About a month passes between the trio Ozzie's - Queen Bee - The Circus (1 moon)

About 3 months (3 moons) pass between Seeing Stars and Western Energy

Western Energy is placed a week before Oops and among these the week told in Unhappy Campers

From Millie's flyer we know that her and Moxxie's mission ends on Friday July 17th. We know from Blitz that this lasted a week, so it started on Monday 13th July.

According to what Striker says to Crisom, Western Energy should be set around July 11th and Oops around July 18th.

We should be in 2022 though, but in that case July 17th was a Sunday.

In Mammon's magnificent concert Blitz says on the call with Ozzie that it's a weekend.

There are two options:

It could be set on the week parallel (July 21-22th or 28-29th) to the events of Western-Unhappy-Oops.

It could be set on the following month (August).

Here we come to the gap:

(*) The Mammon's official t-shirt is clearly linked to the episode, but the date (2023) and month (October) cause the information to conflict.

So, at this point we have this options:

The official t-shirts are tied exclusively to the release date of the episode.

They are official or at the date level, or at the year level.

They're official and we're actually 2 years removed from Murder Family.

I think it is more canonical to consider a connection with the month of July shown in the episode and maintain the hypothesis.

Seeing Stars -> April

Wester Energy to Oops -> July

Full Moon → September 29th

A month of crisis for Blitz seems like the minimum to me and it's also enough for Stolas to enter a phase of rejection.

Temari was pregnant on her wedding day: A Naruto Timeline analysis

[usual disclaimer: I love studying canon timeline but no one's headcanons have to be bound to it just do what you like bye]

Note: for simplicity, I gave years numbers, the Kyuubi attack/Naruto's birth are in 2000 and the other dates are based on that

Fact 1: Gaara is at least 20

In Gaara Hidden, one of the councilmen tells Gaara "You've steadily grown, and reached the age of twenty" and Temari and Shikamaru are in the process of choosing their wedding date in this novel as well, so the Wedding has to happen later than that.

We know from the data book that Gaara is from the same school year as Naruto, and born in January, so he is born in January 2001. (In Japan, the school year is from April to March of the next year and the children in the same class are the ones born during the same school year, not civil year. If you want to know why I say that data books are based on school years, not civil years, flick me a request and I will happily do so! Just not here because it'd be too long.)

We can conclude that the wedding is in February 2021 or later.

Fact 2: Shikadai graduates 15 years after the 4th war

There is no indication that I've found in canon material about when the Boruto events happen, but we can read in this interview that Naruto Gaiden happens 15 years after the last chapter of Naruto. (We will have to assume that "last chapter" here means chapter 699, not 700, or else all the new gen has spent 15 years being teenagers at the academy.) Naruto Gaiden opens with Shino telling the class (Shikadai is there) that the graduation exam will be in a week.

The issue here is that chapter 699 happens in October (Minato says happy birthday to Naruto in chapter 691 the same day, and we know from the data books he was born in October) and the graduation is presumably in March (again, that's one the school year ends, and Itachi is also said to graduate "in the springtime" in Itachi Shinden). So it could mean either 15,5 years later, or 14,5 years later.

The 4th War happens in October 2017 (Naruto turns 17 during it, that's the age the data book gives us).

We can conclude that Shikadai graduates either in March 2032 or 2033.

Fact 3: Shikadai graduates at 11

It is the minimum age as per the law (it is said in Itachi Shinden, this law is made shortly before the Rookie 9 graduate: “now that it was a time of peace [...] it was no longer possible to graduate in a short time [...] no matter how talented Sasuke was, he couldn't become a ninja until he was eleven years old”).

It is the age at which all the Rookie 9 graduate (they are said to turn 12 during the first year of naruto and 13 during the second, again, I can give more details about data book ages in another post if needed).

The naruto wiki tells me that the Naruto data book says he is 12 for the Chuunin Exam, but the scan I have of the data book do not seem to indicate any age that I can find?

So this is not 100% a fact that I have found a canon material number about, but it's the most logical possibility (he's not allowed to graduate younger, there's no reason he would graduate older, this is what happened to the previous gen, and this is what the whole fandom seems to believe, so, yeah).

Similarly, everyone seems to agree that his birthday is September 23, I have not found where that comes from yet, but I have to assume it does come from somewhere. If you know please tell me!

[Edit: apparently it comes from a bonus calendar in the Shounen Jump issue 6-7 of 2019 but I haven't found a scan yet.]

We can conclude that Shikadai was born in either September 2020 or 2021, depending on the graduation date.

Conclusion

If Gaara Hiden and the wedding were in 2021, Shikadai cannot have been born in 2020, so he has to be born in September 2021. If we imagine that Gaara Hiden takes place right after Gaara's birthday (the earliest date) and then Temari and Shikamaru got married on the month that followed, Temari would have been 2 months pregnant, and this is the minimum she could have been.

There are no sign-ups required, but if you intend on participating it is requested you claim the scene you want on this Google Spreadsheet or PM @brickrenouveautions to update the doc with your intended scene. This is not required to participate, but it will go a long way in avoiding too many duplicate scenes! Instructions on how to claim a scene can be found here.

Let's talk Shinsengumi haori.

Without a doubt, the Shinsengumi's asagi-color haori, with its white Yamagata sleeve pattern, is one of the most recognizable items of the Edo period, both in media specifically focused on the Shinsengumi and perhaps in general.

So recognizable, in fact, that there was a lot of confusion when the most recent Shinsengumi movie, 2021's Moeyo Ken (Baragaki: Unbroken Samurai in the international release), did not feature it at all, opting instead for an all-black uniform. Not to mention the complete WTF moment that is the red-and-black uniform of 2002's Mibu Gishiden (When the Last Sword Is Drawn in the international release).

But ... what's the historical basis of the asagi-color haori?

Yamamura Tatsuya, researcher and author of many books on both the Shinsengumi specifically and the Bakumatsu period generally, and consultant on movies, documentaries, TV shows, and various other media, says there are several eyewitness accounts in records of the Aizu domain that describe the haori:

In 騒擾日記 (Sojo Nikki): "Fifty-two of them, who called themselves Mibu Roshi, were uniformly dressed, wearing haori of asagi-iro with a white pattern on the cuffs."

This account dates to the Coup of 8.18 (Bunkyu Coup), which took place at the end of September 1863 using the Western calendar.

Two things that are interesting here: (1) the haori was made while they were still the Mibu Roshigumi, as they weren't given the name Shinsengumi until after the Coup, and (2) all of them were uniformly dressed in haori at this time.

In 文久元治亥子太平録 (Bunkyu Genji Boishi Taiheiroku - I think that's how it's read?): "Asa haori with sleeves marked in white with triangular shapes."

This entry helpfully included a drawing of three connected triangles alongside the description, making it clear what these looked like.

(Asa is Japan's linen, but I'm always hesitant to translate it as linen because it's made from domestically-grown plants, typically hemp, ramie, or wisteria, while linen in the general use of the word refers to material made from flax, which wasn't grown in Japan until the Meiji period.)

Additionally, I found other notes from 文久元治亥子太平録, including one from 3.25 Bunkyu 3 (1863) when Aizu retainers went to see the Mibu Roshigumi, who were "wearing clothes of the same color, with a crest" and "having a uniform cloak made", for which 2 ryo was provided by Aizu in addition to the general allowance the Mibu Roshi received from the domain.

In addition to the period eyewitness descriptions from Aizu retainers, the haori are also mentioned in both "Shinsengumi Tenmatsuki", Nagakura Shinpachi's serialized recollections of the Shinsengumi, and in "Shinsengumi Ibun" by Shimozawa Kan, recording the recollection of Yagi Tamesaburo, the son of the Yagi family.

Nagakura: "The haori was only worn for official duties and the asagi sleeves were dyed with dandara, just like the costumes worn by the Ako ronin in the Chushingura."

Yagi: "There was a uniform. It was a light asagi color haori with white mountain patterns dyed into the hem and sleeves, like the costumes of the Ako ronin."

Yamamura, however, believes that Shimozawa Kan's record of Yagi Tamesaburo's recollection may have been embellished by giving not only the information that both the hem and sleeves were dyed with the white pattern, but also offering specific information on the number of patterns on each. In later writings, such as "Shinsengumi Monogatari", in which Shimozawa reuses some of the information from "Shinsengumi Ibun", those details were removed.

Summary:

The famous blue Shinsengumi haori undoubtedly existed, even if there are no surviving examples.

It was made from asa, a kind of linen usually made from hemp or ramie, and did have white triangular shapes dyed into the sleeves.

It is first mentioned in Aizu records is in the 3rd month of Bunkyu 3 (late April 1863) and appears to have been worn as a duty uniform by all of the troops while they were still the Mibu Roshigumi.

However, perhaps because unlined asa is not a durable material and a lot of new members were recruited, the uniform became less of a uniform, with only some members wearing it while others did not.

The last mention of the haori was after Ikedaya, meaning that it was only used for a little more than a year.

Shortly after Ikedaya, the Shinsengumi went to a black uniform that included black haori and black hakama, as seen in the most recent Moeyo Ken movie.

This uniform was described by Watanabe Noburo: "The black clothes and hakama of the people following me immediately identified them as Shinsengumi."

I'm speculating, but it was probably cheaper to buy black haori and hakama for a group that was increasing in size, and those materials were likely more durable and more popular than the original haori.

The original haori appears to have been an attempt at creating a uniform that would stand out but was inexpensive, since the asa cloth and the indigo dye used to create the light blue color, as well as sewing the haori without a lining, would have been a fairly low-cost option.

Let's talk about another feature of the haori that is often seen in Shinsengumi media, such as Hakuoki in the picture above: the extra-long haori himo.

I have yet to find any historical source for its existence and while I'm unwilling to say that I am 100% sure it didn't exist (largely because never say never), I am about 99.9% sure it didn't.

Here's why:

(1) If several Aizu retainers and several additional people felt it helpful to describe the material, color, and dye pattern of the haori in detail, they certainly would have mentioned an extra-long haori himo.

(2) Extra long haori himo do not exist in any period sources: I have looked at literally thousands of photos from the late Edo and early Meiji period, including many many portraits, and there's just no such thing. The same holds true for woodblock prints, including prints of actors playing characters in the Chushingura. So again, while I can't say I've looked at all the things, I can say I've looked at a lot.

There is a mention of someone wearing extra long haori himo in the book 明治・父・アメリカ (Meiji, Father, America) by Hoshi Shinichi.

Hoshi writes about the experiences of his father, Hoshi Hajime: "At that time [ 1888-1919] only officials wore Western-style clothing and most people wore Japanese clothing. ... I came up with an idea, to make a very long haori cord, even if it's made from cheap thread. It was unnecessarily long. It was strange, but felt stylish. When I wore it to school, it became a hot topic and some of my classmates imitated it. Eventually, they began to tie the ends and twist them to be hung around the neck. ... It became a bit of a trend."

I don't know when those extra long haori himo crept into Shinsengumi films, but they are already shown in the 1935 movie エノケンの近藤勇 (Enoken no Kondo Isami), which is on YouTube.

That was the earliest movie for which I was able to find video or images, but there are several older ones I'm aware of: a 1934 silent film, 新撰組悲歌 (Shinsengumi hika) and a 1914 silent film, Kondo Isami. I know there are no copies of the 1914 film, but there may possibly be some of Shinsengumi hika that I haven't found yet. So it's still possible that the fashion of long haori himo for Shinsengumi movie costumes might predate the 1935 film.

That afternoon a text alert woke you up from a nap.

From Josh

I can’t wait for our camping trip! I told everyone, they are just waiting for you to tell them when and where!

No pressure. You thought to yourself. Planning a camping trip for 8 people, 6 of which are accustomed to the rockstar life. Far different than the roughing it style you and Nora were used to. You pop open your laptop researching places to camp. Your usual places wouldn’t do since they did not offer cabins. Josh told you they had camped in tents before. But you weren’t sure if everyone in the group would make it passed the first night. You found a cute state park that was known for its waterfalls. They offered both primitive and cabin camping experiences. You compared your work calendar with Nora’s, surprised to find you both had a four day weekend the last weekend in September. You secured reservations for a primitive site and a cabin big enough to fit the group. You decided to keep the cabin a secret for now. You text the group informing them of the location and dates you had reserved. You told them you and Nora had two, two person tents and plenty of cookware you would be sharing. Everyone sent thrilled responses and thanked you for your planning.

I think that can be arranged.

The next few weeks pass quickly. You and Josh text daily even though you see each other several times each week. You were getting comfortable with each other’s homes, spending time watching films and cooking together. You would even join the guys at the studio and observe in awe as they worked their magic. The group had shared a few nights out over the past month. Jake and Danny ended up beating you and Hannah in the final round of your pool tournament. Something they were not going to let you live down. You had plans to take back the championship tile during your next bowling night.

The Thursday of your camping trip rolled around. You packed up the truck with Nora. Everyone agreed to drive in their respective couples. Leaving you and Nora driving together and Danny to ride with Josh. You hadn’t spent as much time with Nora over the past month so you were excited to get the time alone with her. The park was a few hours away. You caught her up on what you and Josh had been up to. You had explained to everyone that you were just friends. For the most part everyone was content with that answer. Everyone besides Nora and Jake. Nora was constantly teasing you in private about being a couple. You and Josh would just laugh it off. To change the topic off of you, you asked her about work. She filled you in on all of the server drama you had missed.

“Then Tina slept with Austin!” Nora yelled as you pulled into the campsite.

“What the fuck!” You yelled back.

You were the first ones there, not to your surprise. She continued to spill the tea about her coworkers while you set-up the tents and picnic table. Nora finished erecting the second tent when she stepped back admiring her work.

“I just do not see those boys sleeping in tents!” Nora said turning to you.

You both laugh at the thought.

“I have a secret?” You half whisper as if someone is around to hear you. “I reserved that cabin just incase.” Pointing to the cabin adjacent to your campsite. You both break out into a full belly laugh, Nora having to take a knee to catch her breath. You walk over to the truck unloading a case of beer and a few bottles of liquor to set on the table. You hadn’t drank since the night of the concert, but the feeling of that hangover was beginning to fade from your memory. You cracked a beer and started making a fire. Once your small fire caught you heard tires roll up behind you. Sam and Hannah pulled up first followed by Jake and Jita. Everyone greeted one another. They all looked very “naturey” in their camping clothes. You felt bad for miss judging them. Nora helped Jake and Jita with their tent and you helped Sam and Hannah. You finished setting up their tents with still not sign of the other two boys.

“Where is your boyfriend?” Jake teased.

You stuck your tongue out at him. “You are his twin, can’t you read his mind or someshit?” You spit back.

Jita gave Jake a short slap to his shoulder as if to tell him to behave. Everyone grabbed chairs and gathered around the fire.

“What’s for dinner?” Sam asked.

“I thought we could keep it simple with burgers and hot dogs tonight. I brought animal free alternatives for anyone who would prefer that. Then tomorrow we can head to the little market in town and pick up groceries.” You unpack the food and begin cooking. Jake offers to help you and Nora. The sun is beginning to set and there is still no sign from Josh.

“I will call him.” Jake said noticing your concern. You were used to Josh being late by this point, but normally he would at least send you a text. Jake breaks away from the group to call. “Where the fuck are you?” You hear him bark into the phone. “Your girlfriend looks like a sad puppy waiting for your ass!”

“Sorry.” Jita says placing a hand on your shoulder as she joins you in cooking. She knew your relationship with Josh was a sensitive topic for you. You offered her a smile and thanked her for the help. Just as everyone sat down with their food and drink, Josh’s Jeep finally pulled up.

“I am never riding with him again. I waited 3 hours!” Danny said slamming the car door and jogging over to everyone.

Josh followed behind him with a case of wine. “I told you I was sorry about a million times!” He set the wine down on the table offering Danny a middle finger. Danny returning the gesture. Josh walks over to your chair and places a kiss on your head. You close your eyes and hum at his presence.

“I am just glad you guys are safe!” You chirp looking up a Josh to see his toothy grin.

“I hope you guys are hungry! Y/N made enough for a village!” Jita teased.

“Hey! I wanted to make sure no one went to bed hungry!” You pop back.

“She is very maternal!” Nora continued the teasing.

Josh and Danny found a spot around the fire. The conversation and drinks continued until the fire died.

“Well I am going to call it a night!” Nora said cleaning up some of the food.

“What? I feel like we just got here!” Danny said sounding disappointed.

“Well some of us have been here half a day and had to set up multiple tents!” She threw back at him.

“Fair!” He said waving an invisible white flag.

“I am also going to call it a night. I would recommend you all do the same! I have a big hike to the waterfall planned for tomorrow and attendance is mandatory!” You announce to the group.

“Yes mom!” Everyone says in unison causing you to fluster. You walk over to your tent, hearing foot steps follow behind you.

“Is this ours for the weekend?” Josh asks gathering you into a hug.

“I would be mad at you for being late if I wasn’t so happy to see your face.” You say nuzzling into his neck.

“Come on lets get ready for bed.” Josh says walking you into the tent. “An air mattress! We are living like royalty tonight!” He teased.

“Hey! You can sleep outside in a sleeping bag if you keep that up!”

“You wouldn’t do that to me Honey!”

“Are you willing to bet on that?” You say changing into your sleep shirt and taking off your shorts. Josh strips down to his boxer briefs and you both climb into bed. He pulls you in spooning you and offering a peck on the cheek.

“Goodnight Honey.” You fall asleep to the sound of the conversation continuing by the fire.

You wake up the next morning with Josh no were to be found. You slip on your shorts and Birkenstocks before stepping out of the tent. You find him stoking the fire in an attempt to make coffee.

“Someone is up early!” You say through a yawn.

“Well I figured I owed you one considering I was 6 hours late yesterday.” He said sheepishly. You walk over to help him prepare the coffee.

“Do you want to go into town with me to get food for the day?” You asked as you poured him a cup. “I don’t think they will be getting up anytime soon.” You look at the campsite sleeping soundly.

“We should probably get ice for the cooler if we are really going to make it out here all weekend.” He added.

“Can’t handle the simple life Kiszka?” You nudge him playfully.

“I can but I am not sure the rest will hang!” You both laugh and head towards the truck. You pick up some groceries and fill up at the gas station before heading back to the campsite. “Hey I am sorry about Jake.” He said before getting out of the truck.

“What for?” You play dumb to the situation he is apologizing for.

“He is just being my stupid little brother and he is giving us a hard time.” He added

“It doesn’t bother me! Nora does the same thing, just more tastefully.” You lie. It does bother you. You want more than anything to be Josh’s girlfriend. Sometimes when you close your eyes in his arms, it feels like you really are.

You return to the camp site to find everyone still asleep. You grab a pan and a wooden spoon. Passing each tent you bang the spoon into the pan. “Wake up rockstars! We are already late for our hike!” You yell in the most annoying voice you can muster.

“You have got to be fucking kidding me?” Jake groans from inside his tent.

“I am not, princess! I want to see everyone up and ready in 10 minutes or there will be hell to pay!” Josh laughs at your performance and you offer him a bow. Slowly they began to trickle out of their tents one by one. Everyone but Nora and Danny. “I told you guys to get up!” You yell as you burst into their tent. “OH MY GOD!” You are meet with the sight of them completely naked and panicking to cover up. You back out quickly covering your eyes. You catch the attention of the group.

“No fucking way!” Sam says in an all too excited tone. Hannah restraining him from walking over to see the situation.

“Put some fucking clothes on and get out here!” You scream as you try and rub the image from your eyes. Everyone snickers as they sit around with their coffee.

“Are you okay?” Josh asks, unable to hide the amusement from his tone.

“NO! No I am not okay! I just saw Danny’s dick! And it was next to my sister!” You whine throwing your face into your hands. You can’t help but let out a small chuckle.

“Maybe the sight of the waterfall will erase that from your mind?” Josh says rubbing circles into the small of your back.

“I fucking hope so!”

Nora and Danny come out fully clothed.

“Do not speak!” Danny barks at Sam.

“Did you guys sleep well?” Jake asked.

“Jake!” Jita said giving him a slight push.

“What he never told me not to speak!” Jake responded throwing his hands up.

“I am making a rule!” You announce.

“You are good at that.” Nora says rolling her eyes.

You bite your lip and take a deep breath breath before speaking. “No one is going to speak about it! Got it?” You ask.

“Camping Y/N is bossy!” Sam said light heartedly.

You grab your bag and start walking away from the camp site.

“Where are you going?” Josh yells out.

“Hiking! With or with out you heathens!” You pick up your pace.

You hear everyone shuffling at the table to grab their things and follow you. Pleased with yourself you slow down waiting for them to join you. The hike is only about two miles long. You get to the water fall and unload your small back pack. You lay out a blanket and take a seat, enjoying the view. Josh joins you and pulls out a small coin purse. You throw up an eyebrow inquisitively. Removing a blunt from the bag he hands it to you.

“Joshie you are so sweet bringing me flowers.” You smile as he hands you a lighter. You light it, taking a hit and passing it over to him. “Hits the spot every time.” You coo laying back on the blanket. You pass it back and forth a few times before others catch the scent. They all circle around to take a hit. “I am going to go swimming!” You announce giving up your spot on the blanket. You walk over to the water and strip down to your bralette and underwear. You run into the cold water and fall back letting it surround you. Nora mimics your actions and swims over to you. Once you had swam out of ear shot of the others she began to apologize. “You do not have to explain yourself to me Nora!” You attempt to stop her.

“Please just listen to me!” She says splashing you. “We were both just drunk and horny. It is nothing more, I swear! It was a one time thing. We both agreed it will never happen again!”

“You guys do seem awfully close.” You pry further.

“We are! I mean not as close as you and Josh, but I really like him as a friend.”

“Josh and I haven’t slept together.”

“Well if it wasn’t for his stupid rule, I am sure you would! You can barely keep your hands off of each other as is!” It stung a little hearing her say it so clearly. She was right. All that came between you and your relationship with Josh was his rule. “Hey! I am sorry, I didn’t mean to…”

“It’s fine!” You said offering a fake smile. “I will race you back!” You said taking a head start. You swim as fast as you can back to the group. You swipe up your clothes and bloop your wet self down on Josh’s lap holding him for warmth. He shoots you a playfully annoyed look as you snuggle in. Nora joins the group sitting next to you and Josh.

“That doesn’t look to good!” Danny said pointing to the sky. Dark clouds had started to fill in the once sunny day.

“Ah thats nothing! It will probably blow over in a few hours.” Josh tried to reassure the group.

“Lets go make some lunch!” Nora said as you all began to gather your things.

The hike back was quick as the sky grew darker.

“Uhh guys!” Sam said phone in hand with a concerned tone. “It looks like we are under tornado watch until tomorrow!”

“Well it looks like our little trip needs a literal rain check.” Danny said, disappointed with his hand rubbing the back of his head.

“Y/N maybe it would be a good time to share your little secret!” Nora nudged you. The group looked at you puzzled.

“Well… I may have reserved a cabin for this weekend just incase anyone couldn’t hang with mama nature.” You chuckle as you address the group. You point to the cabin in question.

“I am half tempted to weather the storm just to prove to you I am not a little bitch!” Sam quickly responded. Just then a loud crash of thunder cracks through the sky causing him to jump. “ I said half tempted!” He shouts as everyone began to pack up camp.

You drove your truck down to the keepers gate and retrieved the keys to the cabin. They even gave you a partial refund on the primitive site do to the rain. By the time you drove back to the site it had started to rain lightly. Everyone had packed up the gear into their vehicles. Nora hopped into the truck with you and everyone drove over to the cabin. Quickly grabbing their bags from their cars and running up the stairs into the cabin. The rain was coming down much harder and everyone was soaked by the time they made it inside.

“One of the perks of this cabin is that it comes with an 8 person hot tub on the back deck!” You said shivering from your wet clothes and hair. Everyone set their things in the bedroom of their claiming. There were four rooms with four queen beds and a pull out couch. You went into the kitchen and prepared a pitcher of margaritas for the group. They all had stripped down to their underwear and climbed into the hot tub. You carried out a tray of cups along with the pitcher. Pouring and handing everyone a drink you strip down and grab yourself a glass. Josh has saved you a spot next to him. He holds your hand while you climb in. Once settled he places an arm across your shoulders.

“Fuck I forgot how good these are!” Hannah cooed into her icy drink. You shoot her a grin accepting the complement.

“So what have you guys been up to in the studio? Y/N told me you are there almost everyday.” Nora asked the guys.

“Well Gardens Gate was recorded pre pandemic for the most part. And a majority of those songs had been written or in the writing process for about 5 years.” Danny began explaining.

“So we are always working on new stuff to have in our back pocket. We could probably release a few albums with all of the half baked songs we have.” Jake chimed in.

You continue to discuss music and the bands process. The margaritas continue to flow until the pitcher is out. You make a refill and return back to your spot under Josh’s arm. He takes note of your growing intoxication, and begins pacing himself. Eventually the second pitcher is empty and you attempt to stumble out of the hot tub to make another.

“I think you have had enough margaritas for one night Honey.” Josh says following you out of the hot tub.

You stick your tongue out at him and run inside grabbing a bluetooth speaker and your phone. He watches you giggling at your drunken state.

“What do you guys want to hear?” You ask jumping back through the door onto the deck.

“You know better than that sweetheart.” Jake teased. They never let you off easy, always testing your DJ skills.

“Fine.” You shrug and begin playing Opra. Crawling back into the hot tub Josh walks up behind you placing his hands on your shoulders still laughing at you. One long song plays all the way through. You pretend to relax and enjoy the music.

“Is no body going to change it?!” Sammy asks annoyed. You hop back out and Josh catches you placing you on your feet. He walks over to your phone and puts on his favorite Fleet Foxes album. You walk over to him and grab his hands. He pulls you closer and dances with you. You dance through a few songs until you begin to feel a chill.

“Lets get you into some dry clothes.” Josh says taking your hand and leading you upstairs to the room you claimed with Nora. He shut the door and began searching your bag for something for you to wear.

“I am going to take a shower!” You sing cheerfully heading towards the attached bathroom. He followed you concerned about the amount of alcohol in your system. “Are you joining me sugar?” You tease wrapping your arms around his neck.

“I just want to make sure you are okay.”

“Then come on in!” You say as you turn on the shower. “The waters fine.” Slipping in passed the curtain. “Don’t worry I will keep them on.” You tease snapping your underwear elastic. Josh climbs in keeping on his briefs. You begin shampooing your hair and let him step under the water. He closes his eyes and tips his head back exposing his neck. You can almost taste him. You avert your gaze down noticing a growing bugle in his fitted briefs. You quickly trade places with him to rinse the shampoo out. The suds trail down your body. Josh watching them pass over your curves. You decide to give him a show. You reach into the cups of your bra one by one rinsing the soap from inside. Making sure you push them up ever so slightly. You then turn your ass toward him and bend down to pick up the conditioner. “Do you mind?” You ask handing him the bottle. He takes it raking the product gently through your hair. You could melt at the sensation. Once he is done he rinses off in a rush and jumps out grabbing a towel to cover himself. You finish showering and remove your bra and underwear. Attempting to just pop your head out from behind the curtain you request a towel. Josh’s eyes catch on your chest as he hands you one. You realized you opened the curtain a little further than intended, leaving your girls exposed. Josh had set out some clothes for you on the counter while he walked back to his room to get dressed. Severely disappointed with Josh’s ability to follow his own rules. Defeated you dry off and assess the clothing. He chose a oversized band tee and your smallest pair of satin sleep shorts. You apply some skin care and hair products before returning downstairs with him.

“Did you get her taken care of?” Sam asks Josh.

“What?” Josh responds caught off guard by his brothers question.

“Did she get dressed?” Sam rephrases.

“Oh yeah.” He blushed embarrassed for mistaking Sam’s word choice. He takes a seat on the couch. You join him throwing your legs across his. He holds your thighs in one hand and placed the other around your shoulders. You look up to find Jake, Jita and Danny busy in the kitchen.

“Oh guys you don’t have to do that!” You say attempting to get up to make dinner. Josh not letting you move very far. It takes you a second to realize his still present erection just below your thighs. You sit back down making sure you brush against his hips with a little pressure. You see him bite his lip and shift under you looking for friction.

“You stay right there! You are not allowed in the kitchen tonight!” Jita told you.

“You have put all of this together for us.” Danny said motioning to the cabin around you. “Let us make dinner tonight as a thank you.”

“And we won’t take no for an answer!” Jake adds.

Sam, Hannah and Nora join you and Josh in the living room. Sam and Josh begin arguing about what movie to watch. Prompting the conversation of everyones taste in movies. You all share your favorite films as the others finish up dinner. They threw together a pasta dish and a salad with what they found in the cabin and in the groceries you had purchased earlier in the day. You all grab a plate and find seating at a large wooden table. Josh sits across from you and you shoot him a puzzled look. He responds with a smile and a light brush of his leg against yours. When everyone is finished Sam and Josh continue their argument about what to watch. The storm still raging outside a rumbling boom startles everyone and the power flickers.

“You guys better decide quickly before the storm cuts the power.” Nora teases. Justas she does a second boom comes through and all of the power is shut off. Everyone laughs as you try and find candles using your phones for light. “I will start a small fire for in here.” Nora offers.

You find a hand full of candles around the cabin. “Alright I think we have enough for one in each room tonight.” You set them on the table. The light of the fire place now illuminating the living room. Grabbing some blankets from the closet you all gather around the flame. Nora snuggles up on one side of you with Josh on the other. Danny sits with Sam and Hannah, leaving Jake and Jita wrapped in each others arms. Nora had brought over a few bottles of wine with enough glasses for everyone.

“I found some board games when I was searching for candles.” You announce.

“Anything good?” Jake asks.

“Clue, life, and monopoly. I think I saw a few decks of cards as well.” You respond.

“Anyone up for some poker?” Nora asks running up stairs with a candle to retrieve the cards.

You all play for an hour or so, sipping the sweet wine Josh had bought.

“You ready for bed?” He whispered into your ear. You hum in response. “Shall I carry you or can you walk?”

“Mmm… carry me.” You had sobered up some despite the glass of wine you drank. But he gave you the option and you were not about to turn him down. He stands you up and tells you to jump tapping your thighs. You do as he says and he catches your butt in his hands. He takes you up the stairs and sets you in your bed. He pulls the blankets over you hovering his face just above yours. You quickly peck his lips and lay back down. He grins and kisses your forehead before crawling in next to you. “Nora is going to be mad.” You tease him referring to him stealing her spot in the bed.

“She can be mad all she wants.” He says pulling you towards him. You rest your head on his shoulder like you always do.

“I love you.” You hum.

“I love you too Honey.”

“Not like that Josh.” You pause, “I am in love with you.” He hugs you tighter as you both fall asleep in silence. He assumes you are just drunk and will not remember this in the morning.

You wake up still wrapped in Josh’s arms. You try to slip out but he pulls you back in.

“Where do you think you are going?” He coos into your ear.

“Coffee… Advil… Water.” You grumble.

He lets you go and you sift through your bag looking for anything to help your pounding headache.

“I will go get the coffee started.” He said crawling out of bed and slipping on his sweats. You thank him and head into the bathroom to freshen up. You find some Advil and drink it down with the cold tap water. You splash some water on your face and brush your teeth before wondering downstairs. You find Nora asleep alone on the pull out couch. No sign of Josh in the kitchen you start the coffee maker and go sit down next to Nora. You can hear conversation out of the deck.

“Do you think it was just the alcohol talking?” Jake asks.

“I don’t know what I think Jake.” Josh responds.

“Well it’s clear to everyone but you that she is in love with you. And I would go as far as to say you are in love with her.” Jake’s voice getting a little louder. “What the fuck are you doing Josh? Are you trying to keep her close until you find someone else?”

You could feel a knot forming in your stomach as you waited for Josh’s response.

“You really think I am that shitty?” Josh bites back.

“Then what? Because eventually one of you will want to move on from this little dance you are doing with each other.”

“Fuck, don’t you think I know she will get tired of my shit. I can’t fucking help it.”

“Then just make her your girlfriend!”

“I can’t do that either.”

You decide you have heard enough. You move from you spot on the couch. Jake and Josh hear movement and stop their conversation. You pour a cup of coffee and walk outside to meet them.

“Can we talk?” You ask Josh, not wasting time to explain to Jake as he already knows the whole situation. Jake greets you with a hug and walks back inside.

“Honey, how much did you hear?”

“Enough.”

“I am sorry…”

“I shouldn’t have been listening.” You interrupt him. “Josh I know your rule. I know that you do not want to get ‘involved.’ But we are in someway, whether you like it or not.”

“I don’t want things to change between us.”

“But they have to. I told you from the beginning I will not be strung along. That is exactly what you have done.”

“No, I have feelings for you.”

“You say that, but you also just told Jake you can’t make me your girlfriend. Do you see what I mean?” You start to shed tears. “This.” You say motioning between the two of you. “This, can’t keep happening. You either drop your stupid fucking rule and date me or we are really just friends. No little kisses or sneaky cuddles. Just friends.”

Josh pauses taking in what you have said. “We have barely known each other three months. How do you know you are in love with me and not just the version of me in your head?”

“You are fucking kidding, right?” Your tears slow down and anger creeps in. “I spend every fucking day with you or talking to you. I plan my work schedule around seeing you. Fuck I planned this whole trip because of YOU!” Embarrassed by how desperate you were sounding you stop yourself.

“We are about to start touring again. Tour life is hard on relationships. Just as Jake and Jita. I don’t know if I am even ready for a relationship.” He takes a deep breath and meets your gaze. “…And there is my rule…”

“Fuck your stupid fucking rule!” You yell storming off into the house and racing up the stairs. You slam the door and scream an ugly scream. You see his shirt laying on the bed and in a moment of weakness you throw it out the window. Just then the door opens.

“Go away Josh!” You yell throwing a pillow at the door.

“NOT JOSH!” You hear Sam behind the door. Danny close behind him. You wipe your tears and glare at them. Sam walks over to the window and closes it. “No one needs to be throwing themselves out windows for my brother!” He jokes causing you to laugh. “Hey there’s a smile!”

“If you don’t want to talk that is okay.” Danny says walking over to hug you. You accept his embrace.

“This doesn’t get you off the hook for defiling my baby sister.” You all laugh.

“So from the noises I woke up to, and from your dramatic display. I gather you and Josh had an argument.” Sammy said making himself comfortable on your bed.

“It was a heated civil discussion.” You argued.

“Civil?” Danny popped an eyebrow up at you.

“Well it started civil…” Unsure of where to start. “I may have told Josh that I am in love with him…”

“Well its about time!” Sam said.

“Yeah, well look how that ended up for me!” You bite back at him.

“His ‘Rule’?” Danny asked.

“Well, yes and no. He is not willing to let go of his rule. But he also mentioned the difficulties of long distance relationships during tour.”

“It is not for the faint of heart.” Danny said. “But if you guys really love each other you will make it work. You never know unless you try.”

“Plus we could use a bartender on tour!” Sam said cheerfully.

“Not helping.” Danny nudged Sam.

“Sorry.” He responded.

“Well ‘he doesn’t get involved with fans.’” You mock.

“I would say he is pretty involved.” Danny added.

“Thank you, my point exactly!”

You continue talking for a few more minutes. Nora joins the room after waking up and being informed by Jita about the events of the morning. You assure her you will be okay as you already start to feel better. You stood up for yourself to Josh and the ball was now in his court. Once everyone took note of your improved mood you all went down to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

The day continued on with little reminding you of the emotions of the morning. Josh was giving you space and it was less awkward than you thought it would be. The storm had finally passed and the group decided to take a walk around that afternoon. You stuck with Nora and Danny to avoid having to talk to Josh. You knew you would need to eventually continue your conversation, but you still needed time to gather your feelings. You walk for about an hour, picking wild flowers and enjoying the sun on your skin.

“Let’s drive into town and get dinner at that little dive!” Hannah proposed to the group. Everyone agreed. You were grateful for the time out of the cabin.

You all quickly got ready and headed out. You drove the truck with everyone piled in the back. Hannah sat with you in the cab. She didn’t mention Josh, deciding to instead busy herself with the topic your truck. It was a short drive to the bar. Everyone went inside. You found a small table with the girls while the guys sat at the table next to you.

“Y/N”. Jake shouted catching your attention. “Pool table!” He said pointing in its direction.

“Oh its on!” You hop up grabbing Hannah. Danny following behind Jake.

You play a around and end up winning.

“Best two out of three!” Jake insists.

“After we eat.” Danny leads you all back to the tables now filled with food.

You finish up eating before returning to your next game. Hannah decides to sit this one out. You search the group for a new partner.

“I will play!” Josh said all too eager. Jake looked to you for permission. You shrugged walking back to the pool table. He took that as a yes, even though you weren’t sure it was. Jake racks them and Josh breaks them.

“Scratch!” Jake announces amused at his brothers unlucky shot.

“Off to a great start.” You tease Josh. He shoots back an apologetic smirk.

Jake and Danny take the third round.

“Victory is ours!” Danny cheers.

“Not fair! I had my partner ditch me!” You protest.

Everyone but you, slightly buzzed decides to go back to the cabin. You drive the group back and let them all enter the cabin. You decide to take another small walk around by yourself before returning inside. Fearing another discussion with Josh would be waiting. You walk until it finally becomes too dark to see much. The cabin seems to be asleep by the time you are back. You quietly walk back to your room. You walk in and crawl into bed. You feel someone next to you. Assuming its Nora you nudge them out of the way. That’s when you notice the familiar scent. It was Josh. You wiggled over to your side of the bed. It took what felt like forever to fall asleep, but you eventually did.

You set an alarm to get up early the next morning before Josh did. You shut it off and quickly headed down to the kitchen. Nora and Jita were up drinking coffee. You grabbed a cup joining them.

“How are you doing?” Nora asked.

“I am okay. I was not expecting him to still sleep in my bed.” You responded

“Everyone told him it was a bad idea.” Jita added.

“We tried to move him before you got home, but you know how stubborn he is.” Nora informed you.

“Boy do I!”

The rest of the weekend passed and you managed to avoid any more deep conversation with Josh. That was until Sunday. Everyone was packed up and you were checking the cabin to make sure everything was left how you found it.

“Hey.” Josh startled you as you were walking down the stairs.

“Shit, Josh you scared the hell out of me!” You caught yourself and sat down on the stairs.

“I wanted to talk to you before we left.”

“I am listening.” You said shortly.

“I want to be your friend. I haven’t done a every good job at that.”

“Friends don’t rub their boners on each other.” You say unable to hold back a small laugh.

“Yeah, well friends don’t kiss each other either!” He teased back.

“I would be willing to argue that one!”

“I guess we will have to decide what friendship looks like for us.” He said now in a more serious tone.

“I agree, so are we good?”

“We are good Honey.”

my fun observations:

it also shows where the main cast seasons tend to be: fantasy high began in september and ended in january, the unsleeping city began in july and ended in october, fantasy high sophomore year began in october and ended in april, a crown of candy began in may and ended in august, the unsleeping city chapter ii began in november and ended in march, a starstruck odyssey began in january and ended in may, neverafter began in november and ended in april, and fantasy high junior began in january and will end in may.

in other words, there's intrepid heroes season throughout the year, but most overlap between them happens in Q1 and Q4, with less overlap in Q2 and Q3.

this reflects the more recent patterns of Q4-Q1 releases, with seasons ending in Q2, when the sidequests start for the year. the earlier the season ends, the more sidequests there are for that year.

technically this pattern has only been in place since 2021--the year began with the remainder of the unsleeping city chapter ii, and had four sidequests. 2022 began with a starstruck odyssey, had 2 sidequests, and ended with neverafter. 2023 began with neverafter, and had four sidequests. now, in 2024, we're starting with fantasy high junior year, which will end two weeks later than starstruck.

fantasy high often ends up grouped together because of how freshman and sophomore year were released.

there's a couple instances in Q3-Q4 where there are sequences of 4 or more episodes with Aabria, either as a gm or player

2020 had three intrepid heroes seasons, which caused the high number from that year. after, the sidequests gave more of a buffer between seasons.
