Dimension 20 Wrapped: 2024
It's the first day of 2025, so it's time for a look back at this year of Dimension 20.
General Stats:
We saw a total of 47 Episodes of D20, across 3 seasons and a live tour in the UK. This counted for 98 hours, 50 minutes, and 30 seconds of time on screen, or just over 4 days.
We are now up to 268 total episodes, with 6 more coming starting next Wednesday, January 8th. If we count all of the Dimension 20 content on Dropout, including Adventuring Party, Adventuring Academy, Dimension 20: Behind the Scenes, and Dimension 20 Animated, we're up to 585 episodes.
We got a threequel with Fantasy High: Junior Year and our first sidequest sequel with Misfits and Magic: Season 2.
We also saw the use of a new system in the dome for two seasons: Never Stop Blowing Up. This mix of Kids on Bikes with Murph's Awful Dice Game made for some absolutely insane moments of game-breaking hilarity.
Cast:
We only saw one new cast member in 2024: Jacob Wysocki.
Other than that, we had a plethora of returning cast, with Fantasy High: Junior Year and the Time Quangle live tour featuring the main cast:
Emily Axford
Zac Oyama
Siobhan Thompson
Lou Wilson
Ally Beardsley
Brian Murphy
and Brennan Lee Mulligan as the GM
Never Stop Blowing Up, featuring:
Izzy Roland
Alex Song-Xia
Jacob Wysocki
Ify Nwadiwe
Ally Beardsley
Rekha Shankar
and Brennan Lee Mulligan as the GM
Misfits and Magic: Season 2, featuring
Lou Wilson
Erika Ishii
Danielle Radford
Brennan Lee Mulligan
and Aabria Iyengar as the GM/Magic Mommy
Production:
As always, the dome keeps leveling up with each new season, as we saw:
brand new interactive projections
tons of props and tokens
physical character boards
a moving orrery in the middle of the table
a written test in the middle of a fight
and some of the best battle maps in Dimension 20 history
if you want to see more of these stats and where they come from, feel free to check out the spreadsheets:
thisisnotthenerd's d20 stats for general stats, mechanical breakdowns, seating charts, and more
D20 Episode Randomizer for all the watch orders you could ever want, from chronological, to alphabetical, to utterly random selections at the click of a button.

Fantasy High stats
A summary of statistics from season 1.
I have only counted d20 rolls, and only by the players as it is pretty much impossible to track Brennan's rolls. I only counted nat 20s, nat 1s and "other rolls" since the players do not consistently announce what they got on the die. I also kept track of advantage and disadvantage but I am sure some of those slipped by me unannounced.
ALL ROLLS:
Tumblr media
As you can see, the vast majority of rolls by the players are skill checks — just over 60%.
PERCENTAGE OF NAT 20s AND NAT 1s:
Tumblr media
This chart is really the star of the show! It is why I started this whole godforsaken mission in the first place.
NOTE: This chart is tracking percentage of each player's individual rolls! It is not representative of raw numbers, but instead each column is relative to that player's total d20 rolls this season.
For this one I factored in the advantage and disadvantage rolls, and any way you slice it Zac still rolls the most nat 20s by far.
What surprised me was that Ally rolls proportionally the most nat 1s. That has somehow not entered into the consciousness of the fandom at all, maybe because they roll the fewest dice so the raw number of nat 1s isn't the highest. Conversely, Emily rolls the fewest nat 1s! Murph has rolled more nat 20s than Lou, but he also rolled the most dice so he rolls proportionally fewer 20s.
ATTACK ROLLS:
Tumblr media
Gorgug and Fabian go toe to toe in most number of attacks made overall, and both get to make multiple attacks per turn. Riz shoots his arquebus a decent amount. Fig and Kristen barely attack, instead relying on spells that require saving throws. Adaine has some offensive spells, as well as an affinity for fisticuffs.
SKILL CHECKS:
Tumblr media
The players roll perception checks more often than any other kind of check, followed by insight and investigation. They don't make any nature or survival checks. As a mystery that takes place in a large town, that absolutely tracks.
ABILITY CHECKS and SAVES:
Tumblr media
Sometimes Brennan asks the players to make a check based on a prime ability score. Not very often though.
The saving throws the players make the most often are Dexterity and Wisdom. They don't roll any Intelligence saves.
DEATH SAVES:
Tumblr media
There is not a single nat 20 death save in Fantasy High season 1.
OTHER ROLLS:
Tumblr media
It is probable that Siobhan made 14 portent rolls — however, she only uses 13 of them. In the house party fight she rolls a d20 three times to see if she is able to use Blink. (Two succeed.) Lou and Emily each make a luck check this season, and in the finale Murph rolls to see if the police get there a total of 10 times. During the fight on the Bloodrush field Emily makes one joke roll to see how gross her spit is. And of course, Ally rolls an absolutely wild nat 20 in part 1 of the finale.
That's it for now! Follow for more Dimension 20 stats, and stay tuned for Bloodkeep.

Despite all of his failed insight checks across every season, Gorgug is forever the insight guy to me. Which is even more insane considering his wis is 12. But it just suits him so perfectly. Stats be damned, you ask me who my go-to for insight is in that group, I'm gonna say Gorgug almost immediately. And I don't even think that's because he does insight so often—in my head he's just genuinely good at it. In specific circumstances, yes other bad kids are much better suited for it than he is. But Gorgug carries this aura of emotional intelligence and awareness that trounces any other statistical or contextual factor.
Even in the way he prompts things. Like with the connection to Lydia and the red crystals, for example. Any time he poses a question that knocks us all on our asses, it's always in the form of an insight check. It's always insight, even when it's this crazy revelation about some insane magical bullshit that you'd prolly attribute more towards int or arcana. But IN THAT CONTEXT, for HIM, insight makes the MOST sense. It's his thing.
Can barbarians have proficiency in insight? Can artificers? Can barbarian-artificers? Maybe it's odd in a dnd party for the rage-guy to come off as the most emotionally intuitive. But if any one of the bad kids were to have it, I'd assume Gorgug, without question.

Ash Crawler
Tumblr media
"Rat" © deviantArt user Lakoh, accessed at his gallery here
[A new year means new projects, and one of these new projects is inspired by my picking up a copy of the Basic D&D Creature Catalogue from a used book store. I've mentioned before that Basic D&D feels something like a parallel dimension for someone who grew up on AD&D. So what better way to start than with a decidedly odd take on the tabletop staple of Rodents of Unusual Size?]
Ash Crawler CR 2 N Magical Beast This creature is a grey, hairless rodent the size of a small dog. It has a flattened, hog-like snout and sharp teeth. Its tail is twice as long as its body.
Ash crawlers are extremophile rodents that live in arid, fiery environments, such as volcanoes and in the wake of wildfires. They are attracted to the heat of fire, and may approach campsites and bonfires in order to bask. They are omnivorous, feeding on seeds and tubers that survive fires as well as flesh. They can digest charred meat and scavenge in the wake of fires as well as hunting for themselves. They are curious creatures, and use their prehensile tails to forage, play and fight. Ash crawlers sometimes live in small family units if food is common, but split up to live independently in leaner times.
Ash crawlers often nest in caves and the hollows of burnt trees, and it is if cornered here that they are most likely to fight man-sized creatures. Ash crawlers shed frequently, and their shed mixes with natural ashes to create deep ash drifts that they burrow inside. Creatures stomping through these ash drifts, such as those looking for treasure or hoping to shelter in the cave, run the risk of being attacked. Ash crawlers pull opponents to ground level with their tails, and then latch on with their strong jaws.
An ash crawler is about six feet long, but two thirds of that is their long prehensile tails.
Ash Crawler CR 2 XP 600 N Small magical beast Init +2; Senses darkvision 60 ft., low-light vision, Perception +5, scent
Defense AC 14, touch 13, flat-footed 12 (+1 size, +2 Dex, +1 natural) hp 19 (3d10+3) Fort +5, Ref +6, Will +2 Resist fire 20
Offense Speed 20 ft. Melee bite +6 (1d4+1 plus attach), tail slap +1 touch (trip) Special Attacks rake (2 claws, 1d3+1)
Statistics Str 12, Dex 14, Con 13, Int 2, Wis 13, Cha 9 Base Atk +3; CMB +3 (+11 to maintain a grapple); CMD 15 (19 vs. trip) Feats Stealthy, Weapon Finesse Skills Escape Artist +5, Perception +5, Stealth +12 (+16 in ash) SQ ash crawl
Ecology Environment warm land Organization solitary or family (2-6) Treasure incidental
Special Abilities Ash Crawl (Ex) An ash crawler can move through ash drifts without penalty, and when in an ash drift, ignores miss chances due to concealment. Other creatures treat ash drifts as light undergrowth.

Transfemmes deserve better than this and it’s kinda vile to dismiss the valid concerns of a minority demographic out of hand just so you can have Dropout be flawless. You don’t have to like that its a thing—in fact, you should dislike that this is a problem, and help people work to fix it!
Sometimes people make impossible asks or accuse people of random fake bullshit or whatever. This is really clearly not that. This is an issue with, like, actual fucking statistics behind it and an issue that deserves to be addressed in full. I don’t know how soon it can be addressed in a meaningful way—I’m not involved with the company, I don’t know what the hiring schedule is like, I don’t know when we see results—but I do know we deserve to have this resolved. If you’re uncomfortable with the tension of conflict, take a step back and get out of the argument. If you’re stressed out and don’t like it take a break. But do not—and I say with kindness in my heart—do NOT be an asshole to concerned women trying to get their own representation.
I am incredibly lucky and thrilled to be seeing so many black women and POC in Dimension 20. I didn’t usually get that before now and it’s lovely to have. Why should transfemmes not get the same? Why should Persephone be the one and singular voice of an entire demographic of people, here for like 10 episodes of a couple shows and then gone? We were able to get 4 episodes just for drag queens, why should there not be more transfemmes being hired in these shows?
The truth is this: Dropout is not just ‘friends hanging out.’ Dropout is a company and Dropout has a company’s resources. They can and do hire guests to participate in D20, they can and do have four episodes of nobody but guests, there is no way in hell that they are suddenly INCAPABLE of finding anyone. I don’t know the timeframe for fixing underrepresentation but I think we all deserve at least a message addressing it and I know that they can be faster than this in doing that.

I love looking at fan art for a variety of reasons. My current amusement is seeing the schism in the Dimension 20 audience between artists who draw Keradin Deeproot as a carrot like he is in canon and the artists who went, fuck that, I need to draw him as a human because I want to draw him sexy. Then there's a third group of people who look at that group and say "Cowards, with the powers of art invested in me, I WILL draw a sentient Carrot man, and he shall be the sexiest, most murderous, religiously brainwashed Carrot you have ever seen!
I'm more into Theopin but you guys in Kerapin land are certainly onto something and I'm not mad about it lmfao. (There are of course awesome, platonically homicidal portraits of Keradin too, but... the numbers are in, and statistically you guys are mostly freaks. I say with love).

we've officially cracked 600 hours of dimension 20 with the final episode of titan takedown! 25 days (+ 46 minutes + 53 seconds) across 26 seasons (including oneshots & live shows).
over all those episodes (278 to be exact), we have some fluctuating averages:
Tumblr media
the overall average comes to 2:09:40, with the highest full season average coming from fantasy high sophomore year at 2:36:41*, and the lowest coming from fantasy high, with 1:39:43. titan takedown runs close to average with 2:06:18.
it's also interesting to look at our overall runtimes; the main cast seasons count for over half of the run time**: 341:23:22, or 14 days, 5 hours, 23 minutes, and 22 seconds.
Tumblr media
i'm excited to see where we go from here! see you on june 4th for cloudward, ho! check out the spreadsheet for raw data!
*the official highest is the MisMag oneshots, but given that they are oneshots, i'm counting them separate from the full seasons.
**including the oneshots and time quangle liveshows that have been released on dropout. 320:37:46 without.

okay so i've been doing some research into whether a "Quangle" is a real thing or something Brennan made up, here's what i've found that seems possibly related
1. There's a poem called "The Quangle Wangle's Hat" which is a fictional story about a creature realizing that life isn't so bad. (definitely a theme that could be covered in fantasy high)
2. There's some statistical math bullshit thing called a Quangle Plot that is defined as "a pictorial representation of a time series". (i'm not great at complex math, but it seems to be a different way to depict change over time when averages are changing. for dimension 20's purposes, this possibly could be related to changing constants, like ages or birthdays)

FANTASY HIGH JUNIOR YEAR MINI AUCTION!!!!!!!!!
we are SO back!
as i have done before, I will be keeping track of this auction wave by wave, and doing fun things such as figuring out who sold for the most, who was most bidded on, etc. and generally doing statistics for fun.
I make no guarantees on when or how frequently this post will be updated, but it will be updated.
update (3/28/25): The auction is over!!! everything sold! And we have a new record for All-Time Most Expensive Dimension 20 Mini at $12,557.55!
this auction had 3 waves (as usual), and 100% of the proceeds went to benefit five charities - PCRF, Transgender Law Center, The Improve Education Fund, GiveDirectly (specifically to help with the LA fires), and Asylum Access.
recreational math below the cut!
I listed items up for auction & prices in the order they appeared on the page, noted tableaux, maxis, and set pieces, as well as tallied up stats at the end of every wave. now that everything's done we got some more fun stats to do!
Table of contents (ik ik)

Observations
Fig once again outsells, easily stealing the first wave at $7,003. good for her!
But wave 2, Mordred Manor - Adaine's Room pulls ahead at $10,502! It joins the ranks of FHFY Fig, Calroy, and Arthur Aguefort in the "D20 Minis that sold for over $10k" club.
and wave 3 Kipperlilly Copperkettle outsells literally every other auction item Dropout has ever sold, at exactly two (2) dollars more than previous record holder, freshman year Fig Faeth.
Fig's room comes with a Fig mini I don't recall having seen before - no jacket, her bass on her back, holding her skateboard in one hand. so far,
Fig minis have consistently sold for a Lot - freshman year Fig sold for $12,555.55, and Fig playing guitar from wave 1 sold for $7,003. skateboard Fig is no slouch either, at $3,003. Fig's room (with Fig in it) sold for $1,002 - fascinating.
the Fig sold w the Baron Monster is the teeny version of this jacketless Fig.
Within a minute of being up for auction, on the 3rd total bid, Ragh Barkrock is already at $300. Good for him. Gay rights.
Fabian only has maxis. First for the Hangman and then bc of the battle sheet. Honestly in character.
Every wave has had at least 1 Fig. Iconic
last time they listed all the minis that come with each tableau - this time they haven't [so far]. I'm going to do my best to count minis included in each one below.
for Mordred Manor rooms, I only note objects that have a platform under them (Gilear Talismans, the garlic, wolfsbane, & Gulsom's bolts). other objects are probably moveable but there's so many lil details I'm just including the ones on platforms.
Wave 1!
Red Wastes - Hangvan
the reason this one went for so much money is that the Hangvan includes seated versions of the Bad Kids. I can visually confirm Adaine, Riz, Fig, Fabian, Gorgug, and in the backmost seat is a red blob that could be Kristen's hair or Wretchrot/Baby. Also Gorgug's bandolier thing makes it look like he's the only one wearing a seatbelt - fantastic.
the Hangvan itself is detachable, and has the cool gun on top of it.
a Vulture sitting on top of a signpost [it looks like the signpost itself is the detachable part, and the Vulture is part of it and/or glued to it]
a Yorbie w a spear
an Insectoid Mount Yorbie w a spear
an Insectoid Mount Yorbie w a bow
Red Wastes - So Tactical
2 Tactical Yorbies [the ones coming out of the trapdoors]
a Ballista
an unarmed Yorbie [presumably manning the Ballista]
an Insectoid Mount Yorbie w a slingshot lookin thing
Red Wastes - Hangman & Wide Stack
i think by 'Wide Stack' they mean that one of the piles of rocks is stacked to look like a dick. nice
the Hangman [motorcycle, riderless]
a Yorbie w/ Yagman
an Insectoid Mount Yorbie w an axe
a Ballista
a Yorbie w a dagger [presumably manning the Ballista]
Astral Mall - Fountain
at least 4 Rage Stars
Rage Cassandra kind of crouched in superhero pose
3 normal Wizards
Rage Centaur Wizard
2 big beefy Rage Wizards
2 slightly less beefy Rage Wizards that look like sisters or twins maybe
a blue guy there's not really a good shot of but I'm gonna say Synod Wizard
a tiny pile of rocks with a white hat. I'm sure this makes sense in the episode I just don't remember it
Astral Mall - Escalator
9 normal Wizards, including the normal versions of the Centaur and the maybe-sisters-or-twins from the Fountain tableau
Rage Cassandra but she still has a platform and isn't as big or all the way crouched down yet.
what looks like a tiny dragon skeleton carrying a cardboard box on his back. like a Cubone but if it was all bones. like Dry Bones from Mariokart in a semi-realistic art style.
a small pile of rocks (the same one?) with a white hat behind a counter on the second floor - I think they're an Earth Elemental.
3 Fire Elementals, one large and two small
a Rage Star
what I think is either one of Adaine's Dust Mephits or a small Elemental of some kind, next to Cassandra
a Water Elemental, very small, hiding behind some bushes near the bar on the first floor.
Astral Mall - Oodles of Strudel
Adaine [strudel edition]
Cassandra, normal size, only just beginning to rage
2 either Dust Mephits or Air Elementals, one with a rolling pin one taking out the trash
a Rage Star
a normal Centaur Wizard
2 normal Wizards
a Stone/Earth Elemental janitor w a janitor cart
a Water Elemental
a small Fire Elemental in the very back of the building
what i think is an Earth Elemental to Adaine's left
another Water Elemental (?) to Adaine's right

Mordred Manor - Jawbone & Sandra Lynn’s Room
