So when I go to Barnes and Noble and have to go book shopping for my students, I always notice this section and the lack of diversity for their graphic novels display (most of them are on the shelves). There have been too many good graphic novels released in the last 3 years, that deserve just as much exposure as the regulars that started it all. I have to fight the urge to add them to the section when I walk by 👀😅.

Reminder

I have a monthly reminder set to check to see if Shannon Wright will be playing Chicago. I last saw her live in 2001 at the Empty Bottle, and since she moved to France in the mid-2000s there haven't been many new opportunities, but the reminder exists because she periodically will turn up in the US. Wright played a handful of West Coast dates last year opening with Shellac, and I missed the San Diego date, where I happened to be for a work trip, by a week and I'm still kicking myself over it.

Years ago in an interview I did with Wright, I wondered if she'd be someone like Nina Simone, an artist I would still be listening to twenty years on. I now know the answer is a definite “Yes”.
