finallyyyyy getting around to starting shri’iia’s refs and very interesting to see how her features changed from my first ref sheet of her that I did last year (just after artfight ended) vs to now

originally her features were more rounded n quite soft but I’ve made them sharper, n some of her features got significantly smaller like her eyes and lips n I think that fits her vibes better. her nose got more hooked and sharper too - which is not so clear on the ref 🥲 but I do like that changes! she looks more striking to me 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

ngl I think Sam should've been more involved in Civil War

abject utter rambling under the cut, this is not one of my clean posts this is brain spaghetti on the wall

mostly because it's hard for me to separate Steve and Bucky from Sam, they're hopelessly tangled up in each other thank you very much and I needed more of that from canon

I mean yes I think the final fight between Steve, Bucky, and Tony is beyond my skill to rewrite with Sam in it bc there's something powerful about Steve choosing Bucky over Tony as completely and irrevocably as he did, but on the other hand while it used to be Steve and Bucky against the world now it's Steve, Bucky, and Sam against the world, Sam literally shows up for Steve days after meeting him for the first time, lets him in his house when he's being chased by the government and does some illegal stuff to help him on his mission, but then he also dedicates himself to finding Bucky (assuming I'm remembering that right ??? I hope I am and that's not just fandom brain lmao)

and as moving as it is to see again that Steve still trusts Bucky with himself, I could've done with more of Sam learning to trust Bucky, more of a journey from he's not the kind you save, he's the kind you stop to really understanding what Bucky's been through, how it messes with his mind when the code words are used on him, and maybe Sam doesn't rest at quite the level of trust Steve does but this is the guy that pulled Steve out of a river, this is a guy whose autonomy is fragile, who's trying to rebuild some kind of life for himself, and they keep bickering but we get to see a deeper emotional bond forming between them

maybe Sam wonders where his place is with them, they've known each other longer than most people have been alive and literally nothing can come between them, but he's not between them he's with them, maybe Bucky shields him from an attack with his metal arm, puts his body between Sam and danger like he would with Steve, and Sam starts to realize that he's not a third wheel at all, he already knows Steve trusts and respects him and will turn to him for help before anyone else but he also catches a glimpse of Bucky's feelings for him, what are those feelings? even Bucky's not sure, is it just wanting to protect this person because Steve cares about him, is it just gratitude for being a facilitator in him and Steve starting to knit back together, is it abject wonder at the knowledge that this man has put himself on the line for Bucky (is that just wanting to protect this person because Steve cares about him? is it just repaying the favor from when Bucky pulled Steve out of the river when Sam couldn't get to him?) because nobody but Steve has ever really risked themself for him

just imagine how much sicker the shot would be of them sharing the shield if it was the three of them

imagine instead of Bucky trying to parkour his way out of the facility, Sam tried to fly him out, holding his hands or clutching his waist and maybe griping about how heavy he is a little bit a la Michiru and Haruka but trying so hard to get him out of there before he's killed, and it's not just the roof Tony breaks it's also Sam's wings, he and Bucky spiral back to the ground and Bucky twists them in the air to take the brunt of the landing because he knows he's better able to handle that kind of an impact

when they walk away, they're supporting Bucky between them, Steve has chosen him over the rest of his life except Sam and Sam has fully decided that wherever it goes, he's cashing his chips in with the two of them, he's choosing to stand by Steve in his love of Bucky and he's choosing to stand by Bucky for his own sake

because this movie was never just about the Avengers tearing themselves apart, it was always about Steve and Bucky coming back together, trying to find a way their lives still fit, choosing each other over pain and self-doubt and the government and the Avengers, and it could be about Steve and Bucky and Sam figuring out their places in each other's lives, where do I belong when they've been together since childhood, where do I belong when he's made a new connection without me, where do I belong except with the love I've had all my life and the love I've found lately, where does any one of them belong if not with the other two

it's Steve's undying love for Bucky and his wonder if Bucky still loves him, he knows Bucky remembers him but does he still feel anything? balanced with his new relationship with Sam, a little less hard-won but strong and so precious to him, he trusts this man with his life and the life of the other person he loves most

it's Sam's wholehearted love for Steve and his gradual understanding that loving Bucky has made Steve who he is, that Bucky and Steve are too entwined to separate them into different boxes, it's his realization that you can't love one and not the other, not these two, because they're already holding parts of each other inside of them, and his willingness to defend Bucky because there's a bit of Steve in him that leads to the genesis of loving Bucky for his own merits

it's Bucky's journey back to himself, anchored by the one person he loved when he was himself last, dragged and helped by the person Steve loves now, not knowing if he still belongs but wanting so badly to try, ready to put his life on the line for either of them because they've done the same for him when he doesn't feel he deserves it and yet desperate to live because he has them to do it with

that's the Civil War I've got in my brain, idk

Okay so I just rewatched Bridgerton s2 last week and they did something to my heart

And after having discussed a few theories and scenario on Twitter, here's my take on what if Theloise S4/5 follow up :

Since their trope seems to be forbidden love, here's my take on a hypothetical scenario:

Next season, after being reconcilied with Penelope (I won't dwelve on that here, but let's just say that I see their reconciliation more complex than I'm sorry I hurt you etc...but for the sake of keeping this post Theloise, I won't expand on it here) ...she comes back to her roots and return to the printer, bc she is no longer suspected to be LW, so she goes to Theo to make things...right, bc they separated in angst (she w to protect him, and he was disappointed ).

They discuss, and so they decide to go tght at feminism reunion and social protest (HE LENDS HER CLOTHES TO BETTER BLEND In HEHEHE )

And for some times they make it work, toying the line between more than friends but not quite lovers, all the while progressing on new ideas etc...

But at a moment, they go to a protest where there's a...disruption (violent people and fight) all of sudden and in the crowd, she is hurt. In the Head. Not badly but enough that she has to be brought back immediately to Bridgerton house, where he accompanies her.

Anthony forbids him to see her again. (even tho Theo already decided not see her anymore, for her sake and because, he finds it...'unreasonable' too, she was hurt!!- parallels with s2 where she is the one to end things, to protect him, and bc she feels its crazy, their new relation!😁 yeah)

wrote this lil thing, Theo, after that Anthony talked to him, forbidding every interaction btwn them and he announced it to E, who of course disagrees but he replies:

'To see you in such a state, Miss Eloise, is a prospect I can't bear to see, because seeing you tomorrow, or even the day after would hurt me more than any separation, when I know that you could be hurt at any moment because of me..'

' unbearably worse than one where we're not allowed to share our...feelings anymore ? .' she asks, tear in her voice.

he doesnt answer.

End of s4, (its Benophie season, so Theloise here is just...sub plot, i guess. but it still hurts hehe)

somehow we learn that Theo sharp is one of the grandkids of the Queen??? see s5 for their season (I'll write another post for what if s5😁) !!! (it would literally make a new fresh plot for s5 srs, like, finding every potential grandkid heir conceived illigitimately, and choose which one would make a true prince/heir (thinking of the selection haha) , a sort of contest, where they learn etiquette, to dance etc.. (or not, if the 'contestant' is already a noble) ...(theo agrees bc Eloise, and then.... okay okay im not gonna write the whole thing here bc its already too long but IM NOT DONE!!)

the problem with tangle is she was written as an s tier character out of the gate, so you can’t really give her a character arc. she’s at the peak. you have to make her worse in order to make her better

Some exploration of an important character in 'Glas', a visual development project I created at the beginning of 2024 after being assigned to create a project adapting a fairytale. It only felt fitting to start my development with her!

The story is (somewhat loosely) based on 'The Sharp Grey Sheep,' often called a Scottish version of Cinderella!

hey spot, do you have any tips for drawing iterator faces- more specifically "snouted" faces (like five pebbles)?

this gotta be some kinda ploy to make me draw Pebs again augh...

not sure if i really have many tips from my actual process, i guess? i'm tryin to speed thru the process of drawin as much as i can so more nuanced things get lost in favor of a shorthand, but i suppose i can try muster some stuff up. one isn't a master of their craft if they can't explain it to a child, as they say

main idea i try to chase with Pebs (since for now he's the only Gen 3 design i have with the snout stuff) is the silhouette of the head, the boundaries? the same shape can be recycled for a different angle, though the body then has to be adjusted cuz it can look funky then

this is the quick process, at least. generally i'd slow down, polish some things, a drawing with a goal in mind usually takes a while longer because of the attempts at the best shapes n things that would communicate what i have in head, but it's also better defined because there is an actual specific idea in the head. "draw expression for sake of showing a head" vs "draw this character a little appalled with apprehensive hand against the chest and as if he can't stand something that's happening in front of him"

here's the latter idea Pebs with more time spent on him- slower brush strokes, eraser and Especially the select tool which was used specifically to move the eye n marks lower + make his head smaller. the select tool isn't cheating (since i know some throw a fuss about that), use it when something isn't entirely clickin freely

as always, when an artist's shorthand isn't working out for ya/you can't tune into the same process of slappin a vision on canvas, breaking a thing down to its basic shapes and working with those should do the trick

oh! another trick i used a few times. from the middle of the + on the base circle that helps direct the face, extend a line that would serve for some snout navigation in 3D

Godot and OOP

Been working on my first semi-serious project in Godot (semester long college assignment) and my college insists on everything being object oriented which has led to some interesting hiccups when using Godot.

I'm working in a team and as the one who is the most experienced with Godot I decided to take up the random level generation side of things. When doing the level generation I need to add non tilemap things and those things can vary in spawning method. I initially had different spwaners for the different things I needed to spawn, but I realized that that would quickly explode into way too many nodes in one scene.

My next idea was a general spawner node that takes and array of things to spawn and spawns them according to their requirements. This is where my knowledge of OOP and Godot clashed. See the list of things to spawn needs to have a spawning function for each unique one but Godot gets mad because it can't tell if the node passed has the spawning function even if I make it requirement before running the code.

I was using C# so my first thought was to use a template that requires each thing that can be spawned to implement this template and provides the proper spawning code. Turns out Godot doesn't play nicely with C# templates so I needed a different idea.

I finally managed to get everything working by creating a spawning algorithm class that can be inherited from to provide spawning code and placed that within another node that is used to hold the algorithm for the scene. Also placed the nodes in groups. I like groups.

Is this the best solution? Probably not. Will it work for the limited timeframe we have? yes. Is it OOP? Not really. While Godot is primarily object oriented it's always interesting when I can't use my standard object oriented way of thinking. This is the sort of thing that makes me want to try out frameworks like Bevy just to see what it's like on the other side of the programming world
