The Devils Hole is home to the endangered Devils Hole Pupfish.
From the National Park Service's page on Devils Hole: 'Devils Hole--a detached unit of Death Valley National Park--is habitat for the only naturally occurring population of the endangered Devils Hole Pupfish (Cyprinodon diabolis).'
The existence of the pupfish does prevent the pumping of groundwater in the area, after a legal battle. I am not sure this would apply to all mining.
From a High Country News article on the pupfish: 'The Cappaert case went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, testing the power of the Antiquities Act and the weight of the new Endangered Species Act. In 1976, the High Court affirmed the federal government’s right to maintain water levels sufficient to support the pupfish, even at the expense of water rights held by nearby ranchers.'
The habitat of this fish is incredibly small. However, it is slightly larger than suggested, as the fish swim at least 20m deep; the rock shelf referenced is the only place where the fish feed and spawn in the wild.
From the same National Park Service page: 'Although pupfish have been found as deep as 66 feet (20 m), the fish forage and spawn exclusively on a shallow rock shelf near the surface, feeding on the algae and diatoms found there.'
It is true that multiple conservation attempts have failed. Previous attempts to breed or crossbreed the fish have not been successful.
From a National Park Foundation article on the pupfish: 'Despite past efforts to create a similar artificial platform for the pupfish, as well as attempts to breed Devils Hole pupfish and hybrids in captivity, this small ledge remains the sole spawning and feeding shelf for the fish.'
I have not been able to find any references to 'assassination attempts'. One individual did threaten to pour pesticide into Devil's Hole, but it seems this was never attemped. If anyone can find anything on this, please let me know, but in the mean time I have to say this claim is unsubstantiated.
From a High Country News article on an incident of tresspassing and the pupfish: 'A Pahrump newspaper editor even threatened to throw the pesticide Rotenone into the sunken cave to “make the pupfish a moot point.”'
The fencing was initially installed after two people drowned, not after an assassination attempt. Later, more fencing and security was installed after three men drunkenly tresspassed and killed a pupfish.
From the same National Park Service page: 'Subsequently, the Hole was fenced after two divers drowned in its water.'
From a High Country News article on the incident of tresspassing : 'Since the incident, Devils Hole has become an even more formidable fortress. The Park Service capped its towering fences with additional barbed wire. The public can only view the sunken cave from a distance now, more than 20 feet above it. And inside the fenced viewing area are even more cameras, motion sensors and “No Trespassing” signs.'
There is a breeding program at Ash Meadows Facility, where scientists have attempted to mimic the natural habitat of the pupfish.
From a National Geographic article on the breeding attempts: 'And when they built the Ash Meadows facility, the scientists tried to create a mirror image of Devil’s Hole, which meant bringing in water, substrate, and algae from the natural environment.'
It is possible that a different research/breeding facility is being referred to, but the Ash Meadows Facility does not seem to have a secret location. In fact, the facility is open to visitors, according to their website.
I wont attempt to fact check whether the cave is haunted, but I can confirm that at least two people drowned and were not recovered from Devils Hole. Whilst the cave is not truly bottomless, the bottom has not yet been found.
From an SFGATE article on Devils Hole: 'When the bottom of Devils Hole is one day found, the skeletons of two brothers-in-law may finally be recovered, fathoms below the frolicking pupfish.'
The breeding program has been more successful in recent years. This may be due to the discovery that diving beetles were eating the eggs and larvae, and the beetle population in the artificial environment being controlled. (This fact was not included in the original post, but I thought it was cool.)
From a National Geographic article on the breeding attempts: 'As Feuerbacher watched the infrared footage, which can visualize objects in the dark, a tiny pupfish larva smaller than a peppercorn flitted into the camera’s frame. This was big news. When a population gets as low as that of the pupfish, every animal—wild or captive, larva or adult—is critical to the species’ survival.
“I was pretty excited to see there was reproduction going on in the tank, and I just watched it for a little bit,” says Feuerbacher, a fish biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. “Then I saw a beetle swim past.”
It began circling the fish, and closing in.
“Then it just dove in and basically tore the fish in half right while I was watching,” says Feuerbacher.
[...]
During the first beetle collection, facility manager Jennifer Gumm says they caught 500 beetles in three hours. And on the very next pupfish egg collection, which is done by leaving out pieces of carpet that the fish like to lay their eggs on, the team retrieved close to 40 pupfish eggs.
Before this, they had been lucky to find four or five pupfish eggs during a refuge collection. Usually, it was zero.'

When you woke the next morning, the world had already burst into a flurry of activity, the palace buzzing with preparations for an event that, until recently, would have seemed unimaginable: a feast in your honor.
As you made your way through the corridors, the scent of fresh paint and the sound of hammers echoed off the stone walls. Servants scurried past with arms laden with decorations and linens finer than any you'd seen used at the palace.
The transformation was underway, turning the already grand halls into something out of a royal birthday celebration.
Penelope, overseeing the arrangements with a meticulous eye, caught sight of you. She waved you over, her face alight with the kind of excitement usually reserved for grand state occasions. "There you are!" she exclaimed as you approached. "Everything must be perfect for tonight. This is no ordinary feast; it's a celebration of divine favor—a rare and wondrous occasion!"
You tried to interject, to express how a simple dinner would more than suffice, but Penelope was having none of it. "Nonsense," she chided gently, her voice firm but kind. "This will be a feast to remember, complete with performances, a multitude of courses, and the finest wine. It's only fitting for someone who has been touched by Apollo himself!"
The grandeur of it all made your head spin.
You'd thought, perhaps naively, that such attention might breed resentment or envy among the other servants. Yet, as the day unfolded, you found the opposite to be true. Their excitement was palpable, their congratulations genuine.
It seemed your blessing had become a source of pride for the entire household, a curious turn of events that warmed your heart even as it baffled you.
You spent the day caught between trying to help with the preparations and being shooed away by well-meaning staff insisting you should be relaxing or preparing yourself for the evening.
Eventually, you retreated to the one place you knew you could find some peace: your shed. It was a cozy, quiet space filled with the scent of wood and oil, where the outside world's expectations couldn't reach you.
As you stepped inside, your gaze immediately fell on a new addition to the room—a small, shrine-like shelf installed near the window. It housed your old, broken lyre, now encased behind a pane of glass. This was more than just a display; it was a reminder of your beginnings, of melodies played and memories made.
Telemachus had ordered and installed it as a gift, saying it symbolized the beauty in imperfection and the music that still lived in broken things. It was a thoughtful gesture, one that had touched you deeply, yet it also served as a bittersweet reminder of the distance growing between you and him.
Lately, you found yourself thinking of Telemachus often, his image coming unbidden to your mind as you oiled and tuned your instruments. Apollo's warning about other gods and their potentially disruptive interest had stayed with you, echoing in the back of your mind like a persistent whisper.
You couldn't help but feel wary, the god's words making you cautious about your interactions, especially with the prince.
There had been moments, fleeting and charged, where you could have sworn Telemachus was trying to reach out, but each time, you found yourself pulling back, dodging these encounters with polite excuses or a sudden need to be elsewhere.
It wasn't that you wanted to avoid him; rather, you were trying to protect something fragile, something that felt as though it could be shattered by the slightest misstep—a fear that perhaps Apollo's concerns were not unfounded.
You sighed and set down the cloth you were using to polish a flute, your fingers lingering on the instrument as you lost yourself in thought. The solitude of the shed allowed you to think clearly, and yet, the quiet also made the memories and worries louder, more insistent.
You wondered about the cost of divine favor, about how much of your life would be steered by unseen forces and whispered warnings. As you pondered, lost in the maze of your own thoughts, the soft knock at the shed door pulled you abruptly back to reality.
Turning, you saw Asta stepping into the shed, a small basket in her hands. Her presence was always a bit startling, the sharpness of her gaze and the boldness of her demeanor setting her apart from the other servants. Today, however, there was a softer edge to her usual briskness.
"I brought you lunch," she announced, holding up the basket which gave off the delicious aroma of freshly baked bread and herbs. "Callias is tied up with preparations for tonight and sent me with this." She paused, a slight smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she added, "He figured you might forget to eat, given... everything."
Instead of making a quick exit, which you half-expected, Asta settled down on a nearby crate, setting the basket between you. She began unpacking it—there were slices of bread, some cheese, a few apples, and a small flask of cider.
It was simple fare, but the thoughtfulness behind it warmed you more than the food itself could.
"You're not leaving?" you asked, a bit surprised by her decision to stay.
Asta shrugged, her eyes meeting yours with an uncharacteristic softness. "Thought you might want some company," she said casually, though you caught a hint of careful consideration in her voice. "Besides, I'm curious about all these divine shenanigans you're involved in."
You couldn't help but chuckle at her phrasing, the tension easing slightly from your shoulders. Asta's straightforwardness, her refusal to tiptoe around subjects like everyone else had been doing lately, was refreshing.
"Divine shenanigans," you echoed, accepting the plate she offered. "I suppose that's one way to put it."
Asta watched you as you started on your meal, her keen eyes missing nothing. "You know," she began, her tone casual but her gaze sharp, "most people would be thrilled to be in your shoes. Divine favor, Apollo's blessing, healing powers—it's the stuff of legends."
You nodded, swallowing a bite of cheese. "I know it sounds amazing, and it is, but it's also... a lot." You sighed, setting down your food and meeting her gaze. "It's not just about the powers or the blessings. It's the expectations, the responsibility. Everyone looking at you like you're supposed to know what to do all the time."
Asta nodded slowly, understanding dawning in her eyes. "Pressure," she said simply. "You're under a lot of it, aren't you?"
More than you could express, you thought. "Yes," you admitted out loud, grateful for her straightforwardness. "And there's always this worry about what's expected of me by the gods themselves. Apollo's been kind, but his sister, Artemis, came by last night. She made it clear that I need to prove myself worthy of his favor."
"Artemis?" Asta raised an eyebrow, impressed. "That's serious. She doesn't get involved lightly."
You chuckled dryly. "Tell me about it. She was... intense."
Asta leaned back, considering your words. "You know," she said after a moment, "it might not mean much, but you've got allies here, too. Not just divine ones. People who believe in you, not because of Apollo or any god but because of who you are."
Her words, simple and sincere, struck a chord within you. Looking at her, you felt a swell of gratitude. "Thank you, Asta," you said, meaning every word. "That means a lot to me."
She shrugged, her usual brusqueness returning as she sat back, looking around the shed. "Don't mention it. Just remember, no god or man decides your worth. You do. Eat your lunch, and don't forget that."
For a few minutes, the only sounds in the shed were the soft sipping of your cider and the gentle nibbling on the bread and cheese. Asta watched you in silence, her gaze thoughtful, almost assessing. Then, breaking the quiet, she leaned forward, her curiosity piqued.
"How long have you been working here, anyway?" she asked, her tone casual but clearly interested.
"Since I was about eight or nine," you replied, setting down your cup. "It's been a long time, feels like I've grown up with these walls watching over me."
Asta nodded, seemingly satisfied with your answer. "And the royals," she continued, "what are they like when there aren't any guests around?"
You smiled, remembering countless private moments that revealed the true nature of those you served. "They're exactly themselves, if not more relaxed. King Odysseus loves recounting tales from his travels, while Queen Penelope is always either weaving or tending to her gardens. Prince Telemachus is an enigma, engaging in various activities to improve both himself and the future of the kingdom."
"And the seasons here in Ithaca," she pressed on, "are they harsh?"
"Just the winter, but only for a week or two. It's mostly mild, which is good for the crops and the vineyards," you explained, enjoying the flow of the conversation.
Asta's eyes sparkled with more questions. "Does Ithaca allow its servants to marry or date?"
"Yes, as long as it doesn't interfere with our work or loyalty to the kingdom," you responded, noticing how her face lit up slightly at the question.
Seizing the opportunity, you decided to ask about her homeland. "And how about Bronte? What's it like there?"
Asta's expression shifted to one of mixed feelings. "Bronte is... well, it's Bronte. More rigid and colder in demeanor than here, but not as cookie-cutter about relationships as you might think."
You blinked, catching the implication before hesitantly asking, almost in a whisper, "So, same-sex couples are... accepted there?" You trailed off, catching yourself midway, unsure if it was too personal a question.
Catching your hesitation, Asta smirked, clearly amused by your cautious approach. "Yes," she confirmed, her smirk broadening into a confident smile. "It doesn't matter the couples but the power the couples can have."
You were in awe—not that same-sex couples weren't allowed in Ithaca, they were; it's just not that common, and you were surprised Bronte was so open, especially since you'd expected the opposite. Your preconceptions of Bronte had painted it as a place far stricter and less progressive in its social policies compared to the more laid-back and inclusive Ithaca.
Asta seemed to read your surprise, and her smirk softened into a more genuine smile. "Bronte might be harsh in many ways—its politics, its expectations from its servants, its climate even—but when it comes to personal relationships, there's a surprising level of... let's say, liberalism, as long as those relationships don't threaten the existing power structures or public duties."
"Really?" you responded, intrigued and encouraged by this new information. The conversation was shedding a new light on Bronte, a complexity you hadn't anticipated.
"Yeah," Asta continued, leaning back against the wall of the shed, her arms crossed comfortably. "Lysandra and I never had to hide what we are to each other. It's known, and as long as our work isn't affected, no one really bothers us about it."
That was a progressive stance that you hadn't expected from a place like Bronte, known more for its strictness and less for its progressive social policies. It was a revelation that made you rethink not only your views on Asta's homeland but also on how diverse the practices and policies of different regions could be, despite overarching cultural norms.
"Thank you for sharing that," you said genuinely, feeling a newfound respect for Asta and a curiosity about her culture that went beyond the usual tales of rigid hierarchies and strict regimens.
Asta nodded, her expression turning thoughtful. "Everyone has their battles, their secrets," she mused. "Sometimes, knowing we're not as alone or as different as we might think can make all the difference."
Encouraged by the open and honest dialogue, you decided to delve a bit deeper, especially about someone both of you knew well. "What about Callias?" you asked, curiosity piqued about his role back in Bronte compared to his demeanor here in Ithaca.
Asta's face softened, and she let out a small sigh. "Callias... he's been in Bronte's service the longest among our group here. He was actually gifted to Princess Andreia when she was just a child—bought from a neighboring kingdom. It was supposed to be this grand gesture, securing a servant who could grow up alongside her, loyal only to her."
She shook her head slightly, her gaze drifting as if seeing back through the years. "But Callias, he's always been different from the rest of us—more bubbly, sunny. He has this light in him that just doesn't fit the mold of Bronte's usual servant. And it always seemed like Andreia is drawn to that light, trying to snuff it out or control it."
You listened intently, your image of Callias—the always cheerful and seemingly carefree man—gaining new layers of complexity.
Asta continued, her voice laced with a mix of admiration and concern. "Since being here in Ithaca, though, I've noticed a change in him. Back at Bronte, it looked like he was almost giving in, like the constant pressure was finally getting to him. But here, it's as if he's found another reason to fight, to keep that light burning."
The way Asta described it painted a picture of a Callias who was more resilient than anyone might have suspected, someone fighting a silent battle against expectations and pressures you hadn't fully appreciated before.
"Being away from Bronte, away from those suffocating expectations... it's done him good," Asta concluded, a small smile creeping back onto her face. "He's happier, more himself. Whatever it is about Ithaca—or maybe someone here—it's giving him strength."
The implication hung in the air, subtle yet clear. Asta's observation not only highlighted Callias's struggles but also hinted at the positive impact your environment, perhaps even your presence, had on him.
Feeling a newfound respect for Callias and a deeper understanding of the invisible burdens he carried, you nodded, grateful for Asta's insights. "Thank you for sharing that. It's... it's good to know he's doing better here."
Asta nodded in response to your thanks, then rose and picked up the now-empty basket. As she headed for the door, her footsteps echoed softly in the quiet shed. She paused at the threshold, turning back to you with a smile that held both camaraderie and respect.
"Congratulations again," she said, her voice carrying a genuine warmth. "I'm really looking forward to the feast tonight. It's not every day we get to celebrate something as special as divine favor."
With a final nod, she stepped out of the shed, letting the door close gently behind her. Left alone with your thoughts, you felt a renewed sense of determination.
Whatever challenges lay ahead, you knew you wouldn't face them alone. And with friends like Asta, you were reminded of the strength that lay in human connections, perhaps the most powerful blessing of all.
Tumblr media
As the sun set, the feast began in full swing, transforming the palace ballroom into a vibrant spectacle of light and color. The decorations blended the colors of Ithaca and Bronte, symbolizing the union of two cultures on this special occasion.
Lanterns hung from silken cords crisscrossed above the dancing area, casting a warm glow that flickered like stars come down to join the celebration. Tables laden with an array of dishes lined the edges of the courtyard: roasted meats with herbs, fresh seafood drizzled in olive oil, bowls of ripe fruit, and trays of sweet pastries that made the air sweet with their scent.
Even townspeople had been invited, a gesture of goodwill from the palace, ensuring that the celebration was as inclusive as it was extravagant.
You found yourself on the dance floor, the music a lively blend of Ithacan flutes and Brontean drums, creating a rhythm that was irresistible. Callias, ever the spirited dancer, had pulled you into a group dance with a few other Bronte servants.
Laughter and cheers filled the air as you all moved in sync, the steps a mix of both your cultures' traditional dances, which some inventive soul had woven together for this event. The dance was a spirited affair, everyone moving in a circle, hands joined, then breaking apart to clap hands with partners across from them before spinning and rejoining hands.
Callias, leading your part of the circle, danced with a grace that belied his usual playful demeanor, his movements sharp and sure. Every time you spun into him, his hands were steady, guiding you with gentle pressure on your back, his smile wide and infectious.
As the tempo of the music changed, signaling another segment of the dance, you were twirled swiftly into another circle, switching to a new partner on the dance floor. This time it was Kieran, who caught you deftly, his own movements confident and synchronizing perfectly with the rhythm.
Your blue dress, chosen by Penelope for this occasion, swept the floor elegantly with every spin, the fabric shimmering under the lantern light like the surface of a tranquil sea at night.
Not too long after Asta left you earlier, a servant had come to fetch you, sent by Penelope herself. The Queen had insisted that you spend the remaining time before the feast getting ready with her assistance, refusing to take no for an answer.
It was a whirlwind of preparations where Penelope played both stylist and confidante, choosing a stunning blue dress that matched the evening's aesthetic—intertwining the blues of Ithaca with subtle silver threads reflective of Bronte's influence.
While you were transformed under her expert hands, Penelope had talked incessantly about the significance of the evening. "It's all about you tonight," she had said, bustling around you with an array of cosmetics and jewelry. "This is a celebration of your new place within our community and under Apollo's favor. You must look the part, my dear."
Every objection you raised about the grandeur of it all was skillfully overturned by Penelope's unyielding vision of how the evening should honor you. "Nonsense," she'd chuckled when you expressed concern about the extravagance. "This is no ordinary celebration. It's every bit deserving of the highest honors we can provide. You've brought us all together, bridged worlds with your unique touch, and tonight, we celebrate that bridge."
Now, as you danced with Kieran, feeling the weight of the queen's words and the elegance of your attire, you couldn't help but admit there was a certain thrill in being the center of such positive attention.
Kieran, aware of your momentarily distracted smile, raised an eyebrow playfully. "You look absolutely regal tonight, you know?" he said over the music, his voice warm with genuine admiration.
"Thank you, Kieran," you replied, the music carrying your spirits higher. "It feels surreal, almost like a dream."
"Well," he grinned, spinning you once more before the dance ended, "tonight, you're the star of the dream. Enjoy it."
As the song drew to a close and you both applauded the musicians, you felt a blend of exhilaration and nerves for the rest of the evening's festivities.
The crowd on the dance floor, including Kieran, was pulsing with energy, calling eagerly for another dance. But before the band could strike up again, a sudden hush fell over the crowd as Odysseus stepped forward, his presence commanding immediate attention.
Clearing his throat, Odysseus raised his hands, signaling for quiet before beginning to speak. "Ladies and gentlemen, honored guests, and dear friends," he began, his voice booming across the hall, "tonight we gather not only to revel in our shared joys and cultural heritage but to mark a momentous occasion."
Odysseus' eyes found yours in the crowd, and he smiled warmly, a rare, public display of affection that only heightened your sense of what was to come.
"It is with great pride and profound respect," he continued, "that we elevate one among us, who has shown invaluable contributions to our kingdom but also possesses a unique connection to the divine. It is only fitting that such unique dedication be formally recognized." You froze, your heart skipping a beat. "Henceforth, she will be known as our Divine Liaison, reflecting her newfound status and the trust we place in her."
The courtyard erupted in applause, but you barely heard it over the rush of blood in your ears. Divine Liaison? The role sounded prestigious, important, and utterly terrifying.
This was far beyond anything you had expected when you agreed to help out at the docks and ultimately reveal your favor.
Before you could protest or even process the full weight of what was happening, Penelope quickly joined her husband, her expression radiating pride and encouragement. "My dear, you have always been more than just a handmaiden to us," she said, her voice carrying over the crowd. "You've touched our lives in ways that can only be described as divine intervention. This role, this title, it's merely a formality recognizing what you've always been to us."
Your mind raced, thoughts tumbling over each other. The role, the responsibilities, the potential changes to your life—it was almost too much to take in all at once. How could you, just a handmaiden who had stumbled upon divine favor, accept such a title?
Sensing your apprehension, Odysseus spoke again, his tone softer but still filled with the king's resolve. "I understand your hesitation," he said, addressing both you and the assembly. "But consider this: we do this not just to honor you, but to ensure that no other kingdom thinks to sway you from Ithaca. Your talents, your connection to Apollo—they are rare gifts, and it would be remiss of us not to acknowledge your importance, not just to our court but to our future. This title will ensure that all know you are under our care, valued and essential to the heart of our land."
The logic was sound, almost cunning in its protective pragmatism. His strategic framing of the role—as a necessity for the kingdom's prestige as much as a recognition of your worth—made it harder to simply decline. It was a move to safeguard you and Ithaca's standing among the kingdoms, a political play as much as it was a personal honor.
Finally, gathering your wits, you nodded, accepting the mantle being offered. "Thank you, Your Majesty," you said, your voice steady despite the storm of emotions inside you. "I'm honored and will do my utmost to fulfill this role with the dignity and dedication it deserves."
The crowd cheered, and Penelope came forward, embracing you. As she stepped back, she whispered, "We are so proud of you," reinforcing the familial warmth that had always underpinned your interactions with the royal family.
And as the evening resumed, with music filling the air once more and dancers returning to the floor, you felt a new weight on your shoulders but also a newfound determination.
Whatever challenges lay ahead, you knew you wouldn't face them alone.

Caelwynn's Mod List for Stardew 1.6.9+ - Dialogue/Character Changes
Last Updated: April 17, 2025
Canon Friendly Dialogue Expansion — adds a little under 3k new lines of dialogue spread out over all of the vanilla NPCs. "Gerald the Bear" as the mascot for the Stardrop Saloon originates from here.
Canon Friendly Dialogue Expansion SVE Patch — what it says on the tin: makes minor changes to CFDE to make it compatible with SVE
Clint Reforged — expands upon Clint's original storyline and makes him into a romance option.
Community Center Reimagined — changes various characters' schedules so that the community center actually gets used in day-to-day life.
Community Wednesdays — adds short events to the community center on Wednesdays.
Events Expansion — adds small vignettes around the valley between vanilla NPCs.
Fourteen Heart Events for All — allows you to see character's fourteen-heart events without marrying them.
Friendship Rabbit Foot Events — allows you to see the friendly rabbit foot events after befriending all bachelors/bachelorettes without having to actually date them
Gunther Tells You — Gunther gives you a factoid about whatever you've donated that day. WARNING: if you move artifacts around in the museum, he'll give you that fact for every single artifact you touch.
Harvey Attends Aerobics — Harvey officially joins the aerobics club after his 6 heart event! Changes check-up schedules to a Monday along with mild tweaks to his 6 heart event.
Hat Shop Restoration — adds in a quest line to refurbish the hat mouse's shop
Immersive Characters - Shane — my most beloved character mod. It does a massive overhaul of Shane's dialogue, adds in new heart events, tweaks vanilla heart events, and changes his gift tastes post his six-heart event.
Immersive Saloon — adds additional lines to the saloon regulars so they have a bit more variety.
Immersive Spouses — has vanilla spouses leave the farm more often and visit places they used to visit before getting married. NOTE: I have not tested this with Immersive Shane, so I do not know how they interact.
Lasting Conversation Topics — extends the shelf life of certain conversation topics regarding milestones the farmer has passed. Extremely useful if you have a ton of new NPCs and don't manage to meet them in that first week of gameplay, as they'll still introduce themselves to you.
Life Cycle — allows you to add in multiple rival heart events.
Part of a Saloon Breakfast — adds a questline to help the Stardrop Saloon open up in the mornings for breakfast as well as adding in new schedules and events
Please Remember My Marriage — only really useful if you wed one of the vanilla marriage candidates. That being said, it adds in lines of dialogue where others acknowledge that the farmer did, in fact, get married.
Not in Here by Yourself (Marriage Dialogue Tweak) — tweaks vanilla marriage dialogue to take into account multiple spouses/roommates/kids/pets etc.
Magg's Daily Dialogue for Townsfolk — Daily dialogue expansion for Pelican Town residents that can be used on its own, and it also compliments Maggs Immersive Sebastian, Sam, and Alex mods.
Marry Morris — allows you to marry SVE Morris even if you don't take the Joja route. Adds Morris as a romance option even without SVE installed.
More Capable Abigail — Abigail finally turns into the kind of adventurer she always wanted to be.
Phone Calls SVE Expanded — Adds 30+ new incoming phone calls, covering most core and SVE characters in a variety of situations. Based on existing lore and events. Canon-friendly and compatible with core and SVE.
Ranch Expansion — adds in new dialogue and heart events for Jas and Marnie; it also adds in a pet cat for Jas named Mr. Ginger, and all of it plays well with Immersive Shane.
Random Cats in Events — Very silly and fun mod that randomly adds cats to heart events. The meowing can get distracting, however.
Romanced NPCs in CC Ceremony — adds in your vanilla or SVE spouse to the community center ceremony.
Romanced NPCS in CC Ceremony RSV — same as above, but with RSV spouses.
Roses in the Sand — This mod remakes Sandy as fully romanceable character with hundreds of lines of dialogue, 7 new events and tones of schedule changes.
Spouses React to Death (Note: not officially updated, but I've had no issues) — adds in cutscenes involving your spouse(s) whenever you pass out in a dungeon and awaken at Harvey's Clinic.
Unique Gift Dialogue Expanded — adds 180 new lines of dialogue for more unique reactions to gifts received by vanilla characters.
Unique Winter Star — expands on characters' dialogue during the Feast of the Winter Star.
Unique Winter Star - RSV — expands Winter Star dialogue for RSV NPCs
Unique Winter Star for SVE — same as above, just for SVE characters.
The Masterpost for all of the mods is located here.

How to play Caravan (New Vegas)
While I was tryin to learn how to play Caravan I saw loads of guides were just explaining the win conditions and not the actual rules or controls. So this post'll explain everything about caravan from top to bottom. (The only reason to play Caravan is for the two achievements, win three times and win thirty times; I don't find it very fun, not the fastest way of making money, and has no bearing on any plot.)
Getting the Cards
The only way to get the Caravan Deck is from Ringo after completing Ghost Town Gunfight (or looting it off his body). You don't need this, but it gives you the minimum number of cards you need to play. If you don't take it you'll have to manually find enough cards for Caravan to be available for you You can get cards from vendors and merchants (~two caps per). Keep an eye out for 6's, 8's, 10's, and Kings (The strat I'll describe needs those cards). You can have multiple copies of the same card (i.e. more than one 6 of Spades)
I got the most cards from Lacey (the bartender) at the Mojave Outpost (anywhere from three to eight). Buy the cards you need and wait three days for her to restock. There's a semi-rare bug where she'll sell two of the exact same card (i.e. two Ultra Luxe 8 of Hearts): Buying both'll crash the game
Sierra Madre Cards
If you have Dead Money installed you can find additional cards for Caravan in and around the Sierra Madre. Below is all the cards you can find and where they are:
8 of Clubs - Sierra Madre Casino & Resort (Cantina Madrid): On the floor in front of a file cabinet to the right of the Cafe Madrid terminal and restaurant manager desk. King of Clubs - Medical District: Inside a 2nd floor room with an active electric hot plate, north of the Villa clinic and above a ground level cafe sign directly west across a courtyard from the room containing the 6 of Diamonds, on a round table in the northeast corner. 6 of Diamonds - Medical District: Inside a 2nd floor room northeast of the Villa clinic and directly east across a courtyard from the room containing the King of Clubs, on a wooden shelf in the southwest corner behind an orange chair. 10 of Hearts - Villa: Some distance north of the Villa police station and west of the room containing the 5 of Hearts, on the interior corner of a walkway to the southeast of a wall fountain. Going from the 5 of Hearts, out the door with a wall fountain, down the stairs, in the corner of the interior walkway on the left. 6 of Spades - Salida del Sol North: In the northwest corner of a small courtyard with three bear traps and a dead tree, on the ground between a wall and three pipes, just west of the stairs leading to a room containing Dean's Secret Stash, a radio and two pool tables. 8 of Spades - Villa police station: In the northwest corner of the cell Dog is located in.
Who can I play with?
You're never explicitly told who you can play with, you just have to ask around. Here's the full list; Limited: You can only play with them five times and then never again Restricted: You have to have good rep with their faction to play
Cliff Briscoe - Dino Bite gift shop - Limited Dale Barton - The Fort - Restricted Dennis Crocker - NCR Embassy Isaac - Gun Runners Jake Erwin - NCR Embassy Johnson Nash - Primm - Limited Jules - North Vegas Square Keith - Aerotech suite Lacey - Mojave Outpost - Limited Little Buster - Camp McCarran Q.Master Mayes - Camp Forlorn Hope - Limited - Restricted No-bark Noonan - Novac Ringo - Goodsprings/Crimson Caravan Camp Jed Masterson - Northern passage - Only available with Honest Hearts
Johnson Nash uses more face cards than other players which can break the strat I'll describe later. No-bark Noonan is the easiest to play against
Building your Deck
After offering to play with someone, and after setting your bet, you'll be shown two long rows of cards. The top row is the deck you'll play with in the game, the bottom row is the cards you won't be using
Use your arrow keys to move left and right, pressing W to add a card to your deck and A to remove it. Only select your 6's, 8's, 10's, and Kings. If you don't have enough of these to reach the 30 card minimum, add some Jacks or Queens. After that press F to play
The Controls
The descriptors of the controls listed along the bottom right can be a little vague or misleading, here's a better explanation;
Arrow keys to highlight a card in your available hand (these will be the cards revealed to you in a fan) W to select a card Q to discard a card (counts as a full turn) If you select a card and want to deselect it, press R. With no card selected, R is the forfeit button E lets you completely discard a caravan you've built
When you select a card it will move to the left side of the screen. This is where the game is played. Use the arrow keys to place your selected card in one of the six sections available (these are the caravans)
Number Cards and Face Cards
Ace - Value of 1 Number Cards - Value of 2-10
You can play face cards on your caravans or your opponents caravans, and they can do the same to you
Jack - When played on an Ace/Number Card, removes that card along with any card attached to it Queen - When played on an Ace/Number Card, supposedly reverses the direction of hand and changes suit of the hand. I'm not sure if it's just my game being buggy or if I'm using them wrong, but Queen cards don't seem to do anything for me. I use Queens as null cards: Just something to fill up my deck. If you know what they actually do I'll add a proper explanation here. King - When played on an Ace/Number card, doubles the value of that card. Multiple Kings can be attached to the same card Joker - When played on an Ace, removes all other non-face cards of the ace's suit from the table (except that card) When played on a Number Card, removes all other cards of that value from the table (except that card) You can place multiple Jokers on the same card to remove any card of that suit/value placed after you placed your initial Joker
Playing Caravan (6 8 10 K Strat)
This isn't a strategy I invented, I found it online. But I only every found it in posts that assumed I knew how to play already. So I wanted to put it here alongside a tutorial Also, just as a rule of measure for how weird this game is, we're only now getting to how to actually play the game ...
You're aiming to have the values of the bottom three card piles (your caravans) be higher than their matching top three values (your opponents caravans), while keeping your values between twenty and twenty-six (values outside of this are invalid).
You might notice that you can't place a card on a caravan that already has a card in it. This might be for a few reasons;
There's a difference between attaching a card to another, and stacking a card on top of another: Press the up and down keys to move along the various heights of a caravan. Face cards can only be attached, number cards can only be stacked
You can't place two number cards of the same value in the same caravan. But you can place as many of the same face card as you want in the same caravan
Place a 10 and a 6, or a 10 and an 8 in each caravan, attach a King to the 10 in 10/6 caravans, or to the 8 in 10/8 caravans. These will each bring your value up to 26. If you don't have any of the cards you need, discard something you don't want (like a Queen if you have any in your deck and are using them as null cards). It's worth having a handful of Jacks in your deck to use against your opponent
Beating No-Bark
I'm not certain, but I think No-Bark's deck has no 2's, Queens, or Jokers. He only has three to four Jacks, and two to three Kings. After you've placed your initial card in each of your caravans he'll use a Jack against you one or two times. Rarely three, very rarely none. After your first few moves he's very unlikely to use Jacks again. I only saw him using a king against three times out of thirty-five games. Sometimes he deliberately busts his caravans. I have no idea why he does this
The strat I use against him is to place 6's and 8's as my first card in each caravan, then replace any cards he removes. It's only after three to five moves that I actually start building my caravans. Unless he's particular nasty with his Jacks, or you're particularly unlucky with whichever cards you draw, you should be able to get to 26 in each of your caravans immediately. If not, don't forget to Jack or King any caravan of his that reaches 20
Conclusion
Caravan sucks
If I missed something or didn't explain something right I'll make edits
Peace and love

Someone was having trouble getting decent sound in his living room and instead of recommending a room treatment or better speakers this person just casually suggests PUTTING AN ADDITION ONTO THE HOUSE.
Trying to get advice on audio forums is often a challenge because a lot of these dudes just have *so much* disposable income. And they just assume everyone else is wealthy too. You can even tell them you have a budget and they'll be like, "You should save up longer and buy this thing that is three times your budget."
And it's not like there aren't wonderful options that are more affordable. I think I may have about $3000 worth of home theater equipment that I have collected over the last 20 years. They will spend that on a single speaker and suggest you do the same.
The people in these forums would have a fit if they knew I had a single subwoofer. Apparently, the cardinal audio sin is having only ONE subwoofer.
Your room could have NULLS!
NULLLLLLS!!!
Seriously, they will lecture you anytime you mention having a single subwoofer. "Your seat-to-seat response is going to be inconsistent!"
I also saw a guy say that a 15" subwoofer was "tiny" and "pointless."
My 70-pound, 12" subwoofer is currently vibrating items off the shelf in my house ever since I moved it upstairs and don't have concrete floors like in the basement. I'm going to have to buy special subwoofer feet to decouple it from the floor. I can't imagine what a 15" sub would do to my house. It might collapse on top of me.
So you can only get a sub that is at least 18" and you need a minimum of 2... but 4 is much better. Actually, 4 is the minimum. 2 is garbage. 2 in front and 2 in back.
And, of course, you have to get a Rythmik or PSA subwoofer. Don't cheap out on the brand!
Tumblr media
You have to build an addition to the house AND buy $8000 worth of subwoofers and then MAYBE your sound will be somewhat listenable.
But only if you calibrate the subs with a MiniDSP and the proper UMIK calibration microphone.
Tumblr media
Wait, do you have a regular AVR with built in amplification? That won't do. What you need is an audio processor with individual external amplification.
Tumblr media
You'll need a 9.4.6 configuration for the proper surround sound experience. That is 9 ear-level speakers, 4 subwoofers, and 6 atmos ceiling speakers.
So 2 of these.
Tumblr media
1 of these.
Tumblr media
3 pairs of these.
Tumblr media
6 of these... plus professional ceiling installation.
Tumblr media
And an individual amplifier for each speaker.
Tumblr media
Do you really need a 600 watt amp for the ceiling speakers too?
OF COURSE YOU DO!
DO YOU WANT A LOW NOISE FLOOR AND NO DISTORTION OR DO YOU WANT GARBAGE?
Comfort is important too. So you'll want a Valencia leather power recliner with LED cup holder.
Tumblr media
And... by far... the most important home theater component...
The power cable.
Tumblr media
This will assure that only the highest quality electrons are delivered to your audio equipment.
Don't think about it too much.
Don't think about all of the janky powerlines that deliver electricity to your house.
Or all of the generic power cables inside your wall.
This cable magically negates all of that and turns the last few feet of electricity into pure, audio-grade power.
Guaranteed to drastically improve your sound quality... somehow.
It can't be nonsense, otherwise someone would have never written such beautiful prose about a power cable in a review...
"I was smitten by the piano’s extra depth in its nether regions. I’m not talking about what some audiophiles like to refer to as testicular bass, but rather, a rich and absorbing presentation."
$14,000 for rich and absorbing testicular bass? WORTH IT!
So that's roughly $65,870 for all of that and between $50,000 and $100,000 for a 500 square foot room addition.
A small price to pay for a room that is not junk for listening to music.

DIY Floating Shelves: A Stylish & Functional Addition to Any Room
Looking to upgrade your space with a practical yet stylish solution? DIY floating shelves are the perfect way to enhance any room—whether it’s your living room, kitchen, or bathroom. These minimalist shelves not only add extra storage, but they also elevate your home’s aesthetic with a modern touch.
Tumblr media
Here’s everything you need to know about creating your own floating shelves!
Why Choose Floating Shelves?
Floating shelves are a sleek and contemporary storage solution that gives any room an instant upgrade. Their no-visible-brackets design makes them appear as if they’re floating on the wall, creating a clean, clutter-free look. Plus, they are versatile, making them suitable for any room in your home!
Living Room: Showcase books, plants, or decorative pieces.
Kitchen: Store spices, utensils, or coffee mugs.
Bathroom: Perfect for towels, toiletries, or candles.
What You’ll Need for This DIY Project
Wood Boards: Choose a wood type that matches your room’s style (oak, pine, or reclaimed wood are great options).
Brackets or Floating Shelf Hardware: These keep your shelf secure without visible support.
Screws & Wall Anchors: Make sure to match these with the type of wall (drywall, plaster, or brick).
Power Drill & Level: To ensure the shelves are securely mounted and level.
Paint or Stain (optional): To add a custom finish to match your décor.
Step-by-Step Guide to Building Your Floating Shelves
Step 1: Measure and Mark
Start by deciding where you want your shelves. Measure the length of the wall and mark where you want the shelves to be placed. Use a level to ensure everything is aligned.
Step 2: Cut the Wood to Size
Cut your wood boards to the desired length (most shelves are around 3-4 feet long). Sand the edges smooth for a clean finish.
Step 3: Attach Floating Shelf Hardware
Install the floating shelf brackets or shelf mounting system onto the wood. Follow the instructions that come with your hardware to ensure a secure fit.
Step 4: Mount the Shelves on the Wall
Drill holes in the wall where you’ve marked and insert the wall anchors. Then, mount the shelves onto the brackets, ensuring they are secure. Double-check with the level to make sure everything is even!
Step 5: Final Touches
If you’re using paint or stain, give your shelves a coat of finish that suits your room’s vibe. Let them dry before adding items to them.
Tumblr media
Styling Your Floating Shelves
Once your floating shelves are up, it's time to style them! Here are some fun and creative ways to make your shelves pop:
Layering Books: Stack books vertically and horizontally for an artful look.
Greenery: Add small plants like succulents or trailing vines for a touch of nature.
Personal Touches: Display family photos, art prints, or unique collectibles.
Lighting: Consider adding small LED lights to illuminate your shelves and create a cozy ambiance.
The Bottom Line
DIY floating shelves are the perfect blend of form and function, offering a clean, modern look while maximizing your space. Rather Long Sims 4 Rant
Tumblr media
Before I continue with my The Sims 4 stories, it is with sadness that I inform you that the Wilsons recently lost the beautiful celebrity home they had just moved into. I don’t know exactly what happened, what I know is that it happened right after the For Rent EP update (which I didn’t buy or install, but yes, I did update). From that day on, my sims, who were on vacation in Sulani at the time, were unable to get back in the house. Every time they tried to return, the game would get stuck eternally at the loading screen. I tried everything, even evicting them and returning them to the house. Nothing, just the screen kept loading forever.
I also tried to demolish the lot to re-install the house, but every time I did this, (and I tried a lot of times), the game either crashed or kept loading infinitely. After many attempts of a lot of things like repairing the game, resetting it to factory settings, removing my mods folder, restoring saves, and all the solutions I know (I am die hard when it comes to troubleshooting The Sims), I finally decided to leave it alone and accept that my sims would never recover their beloved house and that they had to move.
Now they’re happily living again in Brindleton Bay, in one of the bigger houses there; they are comfortable, and going on with their lives, though I still really miss and long for the other house, which is still sitting there, since I have not been able to demolish it to put a new one. It’s still stuck there, which annoys me to no end cause I like my cities clean and functional, and just knowing that there is an abandoned and inactive house there really upsets me.
I know I could start a new save and install the house in a clean Del Sol Valley, but that would mean Allan and his family would lose all their current social and work relationships, which at this point for me is unthinkable, with all the networking they have established, co-workers, school friends, romances, etc. Plus, what about all the makeovers I did to everyone they knew? I mean, I saved every townie I made over in my library, but would I have to reinstall them one by one? Maybe, but how? I still don’t know much about this game; I know that in The Sims 3 it wouldn’t be a problem for me.
Anyway, the Wilson’s story wasn’t over, it wasn’t difficult to move them, the only thing that hurt me were Allan and Zoe’s awards, trapped in their lost home. But in one of the rare and fortunate times that I was able to enter the bugged house in build mode, I saved the room where the awards were in my library, and then installed it in the Wilson’s new house. That’s how I rescued the awards that now lie on a shelf in Allan and Zoe’s new bedroom. I continued to play and got a lot more photo footage of them, in addition to what I had before the update disaster. By the way, this is the first time I’ve had problems with an update, of any kind. I pride myself in being an expert at troubleshooting The Sims, but I guess I still have a lot to learn regarding The Sims 4, which is a relatively new game for me.
Anyway, I plan to uninstall the entire game soon and reinstall it on my other hard drive cause I’m running out of space and will need more since I plan to get a few other game packs in the future. Once my game is reinstalled, I’d love to be able to demolish the ruined house in Del Sol Valley and, if possible, reinstall it on the cleaned-up lot to give the Wilsons back the home they lost. So, if by any chance someone read this very long post to the end, and has gone through something similar to this, (i.e. not being able to enter a house but also not being able to demolish it in order to reinstall it), please let me know if you were able to solve it and how. Any new ideas, other than everything I already mentioned and all those obvious solutions around on EA’s Q&A, would be welcome.
Sorry for the rant, and thanks for reading this far. 🩷

Note: The house is Famous Mansion, in the Sims 4 Gallery, by emma4101, original by JL_Sims 4. Never had issues with it before.

The Mystery of the Vintage Bookshelf
Tumblr media
There's been a new addition back in the kids' section -- a lovely collection of vintage Nancy Drew books. Many of us (myself included) read the yellow spine ones at some point in our childhood, and it's been fun hearing people reminisce. The most knowledgeable person at Island Books for all things Nancy Drew, to the point of having a tire cover on her car featuring the famous silhouette of the girl detective, is our very own Cindy.
Cindy: First off, I have to start by saying that Island Books is kind of a weirdly random and magical place. If you take time while shopping here to look around, you'll notice some stuff that has been incorporated into our decor over the last bunch of years that was bequeathed to us by customers and former employees and friends who just wanted a home for some thing that they loved but no longer had space for or need for but couldn’t quite cast out into the unknown universe. We have a weird huge vase and a strange statue, a beautiful old set of World Book Encyclopedias above the travel section, a bunch of typewriters, an ancient mysterious machine, a ceramic Kleenex tissue dispenser that’s supposed to look like a leather bound classic and I don't even know what else without wandering around the store and admiring it all. But my personal favorite donation of late has been this: Donna Murphy, of Issaquah (There are two other Donna Murphys not-from-Issaquah who shop here), donated her entire Nancy Drew Collection to Island Books.
We promised we would keep them and care for them and Laurie Raisys had the ingenious idea to display them like an art installation on a dining room hutch topper three-shelf bookshelf thing with spindles (also a donation) and it looks fantastic! I encourage everyone, EVERYONE, to come and appreciate this new addition and have a look at this beautiful collection.
Thank you so much Donna-Murphy-of-Issaquah!!! I REALLY want to call you to tell you we’ve done this but I’ve misplaced your phone number!
I’ve been a fan of Nancy Drew for many years as many of you know and it was fun looking through this collection and hearing Lori’s perspective on her year of reading Drewishly. We both read the Nancys in 4th grade (me in 1968 and Lori in 1986).
Neither of us remember the plots very well but we remember the experience. I remember the blue books, Lori remembers the yellow ones. And we both remember that we admired Nancy Drew and kind of wanted to be like her, even if for different reasons.
Lori: It’s definitely been a talking point at the kids' desk since it’s been put up! I haven’t revisited Nancy Drew since those early reads. My general recollection was that she had an outfit for every occasion and was able to handle anything. How did Nancy Drew come into your life?
Cindy: I met Nancy Drew when I was in 4th grade. In a new neighborhood in a new town with a new teacher in a new school. It would have been in 1968.
I never owned a Nancy Drew book until I was well out of college. My family didn't really have much of a bookcase at all. We had a collection of World Book Encyclopedias, the Childcraft How and Why Series, The American Heritage Illustrated History of the U.S., a handful of leather-bound classics, a few Readers Digest Condensed Versions of some popular novels of the time and the biggest dictionary money could buy. We were mainly a library family--My mother called it "America's best idea--” always following that up with: “And best yet, it’s free!”
Our tiny town library had what seemed like a massive collection of the blue tweed Nancy Drew books with the famous silhouette of the girl sleuth herself. I delved into each mystery eagerly and escapistly. Nancy thought fast, moved fast and was cool as a cucumber under pressure. She was afraid of no one and no thing. She scuffled and scuttled with mottled-skinned, scar-faced scoundrels and ill-tempered robbers (it was so easy to identify the bad guys in those days) and drove a cool roadster as expertly as she could jump on a sailboat and navigate it through a squall. She could hop on a plane and into a taxi to follow a suspect whenever detective duty called. She had plenty of money, her dad was always out of town, and Nancy had no real guidelines PLUS a good-natured housekeeper who made waffles for breakfast. Nancy Drew was my dream self...or at least lived my dream life.
Tumblr media
I don’t remember her having the perfect outfit for every occasion, Lori, but that’s just me.
Lori: I think it's likely we were focused on different things. I wonder what I would make of her now. How did the character of Nancy Drew even come to be?
Cindy: Nancy Drew began as yet another “plotline” conceived by Edward Stratemeyer, a prolific writer of childrens’ books who began hiring a team of writers to bring his many plot ideas to life, thus creating “The Stratemeyer Syndicate.” Those manuscripts found a publisher in Grosset and Dunlap and his massive collection of serialized stories for kids and young adults became a huge commercial success--even throughout the Depression Era. He created The Rover Boys, The Bobbsey Twins, Tom Swift, Tom Swift Jr. and The Hardy Boys.
In 1929 Stratemeyer thought he'd expand his success with The Hardy Boys detective series to create a new series starring a teenage girl detective. Her name would be Nancy Drew (almost "Diana Drew," almost "Nancy Dare" and, most cringingly, almost “Stella Strong”). He then wrote three two-page outlines for the first three books and hired a young woman writer to flesh out the character and create three novels around his three plots. The novels were to be 25 chapters, 200 pages long, and each page (if possible) and every chapter (absolutely) should end “mid-situation” which is, I guess, what they called “a cliff hanger” in the olden days.
That young writer was Mildred Wirt Benson and she, like all the other writers in the Stratemeyer Syndicate, was contractually sworn to secrecy over her authorship. The books would be attributed to “Carolyn Keene” a pseudonym that would be shared by many writers over the course of the Nancy Drew mystery series, including a few men, most notably, Walter Karig, who wrote three in a row (#s 8,9 and 10, when Mildred was in a depression-era pay dispute). Walter Karig was the first Syndicate author to attempt to break the contractual vow-of-secrecy secret authorship thing.
But back to Mildred Wirt Benson, the first Carolyn Keene, and the one most responsible for the character and kick ass cultural icon Nancy Drew became—
The Nancy Drew Books began outselling The Hardy Boys Books in no time flat. Stratemeyer had already hired his oldest daughter, Harriet, as an editor (ironically not wanting her to work outside of the home after college) and she ended up playing the second most influential part in the ongoing creation of Nancy Drew—she started by outlining plots for Mildred and over time would end up writing 25 of the novels herself between 1959 and 1979 long after Mildred Wirt Benson’s 23 book tenure. Harriet also (starting in 1959) took charge of some hefty revisions of the first 34 books to remove outdated language and ethnic stereotypes (to her credit) and to her uncredit, removed a lot the ethnic stereotypes by removing a lot of the ethnic characters.
Also, under Harriet’s revisionist handiwork, Nancy Drew became a little less independent and conformed more to the societal ideal of girls and women in the fifties as being more pleasant, domestic and docile than Mildred Benson’s Nancy Drew: Nancy started following the police rather than leading them to the scene of the crime, would ask her father for permission rather than doing whatever she pleased and would offer to help wash the dishes after lunch before rushing off to solve her latest mystery.
I’m glad I grew up with the unrevised versions.
Lori: So, I guess it's not surprising that the outfits are what made the biggest impression on me. Thank you, Cindy -- I loved learning all this fascinating information!
Stop by and chat Nancy Drew with us and ask Cindy for further reading--she can point you to some real experts on Nancy Drew who have books and websites dedicated to the Girl Sleuth.

Bella Brand: Intro + Mesh Set 001
Tumblr media
Published: 11-6-2023 | Updated: 11-20-2023 (collection file) SUMMARY “Apart from being the most famous alien abductee in the simsverse, Bella Goth (nee’ Bachelor) is a big name in residential, commercial, and industrial real estate. She even has a history in television—or was that a clone? The Bella Brand Series brings some of these stories to life in the Sims 2 via new downloadable content.” I had the pleasure of learning and creating alongside several talented gamers/artists for this installment of the Bella Brand Series. Inspired by the wealth of Bella Goth lore from the Sims/SimCity franchises (aka the “simsverse”), it includes more than a dozen sets and 230+ new business-themed items. Lore suggests that the wealth/influence of the Gilman, Crumplebottom, Bachelor, and Goth families increases considerably under Mortimer and Bella Goth, especially the latter. So, this series imagines what a prestigious Bella-based brand might look like…

Custom Blackout Curtains: Tailoring Light Control to Your Home’s Unique Needs
Tumblr media
Custom blackout curtains offer a tailored solution for homeowners looking to achieve precise light control and enhance their living spaces. Unlike standard options, custom curtains provide a perfect fit and can be designed to meet specific requirements, ensuring optimal performance and style. This article explores the benefits of custom blackout curtains and provides guidance on how to tailor them to your home’s unique needs.
Why Choose Custom Blackout Curtains?
Custom blackout curtains offer several advantages over off-the-shelf options:
Perfect Fit: One of the primary benefits of custom blackout curtains is their precise fit. Custom curtains are designed to match your window dimensions exactly, eliminating gaps where light can seep through. This ensures that you achieve maximum light-blocking performance and a seamless look.
Personalized Design: Custom curtains allow you to choose from a wide range of fabrics, colors, and patterns to match your home’s décor. This flexibility ensures that your curtains not only provide effective light control but also enhance the overall aesthetic of your room.
Enhanced Functionality: Custom blackout curtains can be designed with additional features to meet your specific needs. Options such as thermal linings for energy efficiency, noise-reducing layers, or motorized systems for convenience can be incorporated to enhance the functionality of your curtains.
Designing Custom Blackout Curtains for Different Rooms
Different rooms in your home may have varying requirements for light control and aesthetics. Here’s how to tailor custom blackout curtains for specific areas:
Bedrooms: In bedrooms, complete darkness is often desired for better sleep. Custom blackout curtains can be designed to cover the entire window area and extend beyond the edges to prevent light leakage. Opt for heavy fabrics and dark colors to ensure maximum light blocking.
Home Theaters: For home theaters, achieving a pitch-black environment is crucial for an immersive viewing experience. Custom curtains can be made from thick, dense materials that block out all external light and reduce glare on the screen. Consider adding a noise-reducing layer for enhanced audio quality.
Living Rooms: In living rooms, custom blackout curtains can provide light control while also complementing your décor. Choose fabrics and colors that coordinate with your existing furnishings while ensuring that the curtains offer adequate light-blocking capabilities. Lightweight options with a stylish design can maintain a bright and inviting atmosphere.
Selecting the Right Fabrics and Features
When designing custom blackout curtains, consider the following factors to ensure they meet your needs:
Fabric Choices: Opt for fabrics that offer effective light blocking while aligning with your design preferences. Heavyweight materials such as velvet or triple-weave polyester are excellent for maximum light control. For a more decorative touch, consider fabrics with added texture or patterns.
Additional Features: Custom curtains can include various features to enhance their functionality. Thermal linings can improve energy efficiency by insulating your windows, while noise-reducing layers can create a quieter environment. Motorized systems offer convenience for easy operation, especially for large or hard-to-reach windows.
Measuring and Installing Custom Blackout Curtains
To achieve the best results with custom blackout curtains, accurate measuring and proper installation are essential:
Measuring: Measure your windows carefully to ensure that the curtains are designed to fit perfectly. Include measurements for the width, height, and any additional space needed to cover gaps around the edges. For floor-to-ceiling curtains, measure from the top of the window frame to the floor.
Installation: Install the curtain hardware securely to support the weight of the custom curtains. Ensure that the curtain rod or track extends beyond the window frame to allow the curtains to hang freely and effectively block light. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper installation to achieve the desired results.
Conclusion
Custom blackout curtains offer a tailored solution for achieving precise light control and enhancing the functionality and aesthetics of your home. By selecting the right fabrics, features, and design elements, you can create a customized solution that meets your specific needs and preferences. Investing in custom blackout curtains ensures that you enjoy maximum light-blocking performance while complementing your home’s décor and enhancing your living environment.

We are so behind schedule the shelves at this store are so old it just took me 20 minutes to get a moulding out... the brittle plastic required me to essentially chisel away at it until it was reduced to fine shrapnel..... installing new mouldings on this one particular shelf required an additional 20 minutes due to having to intimately beg the shelf for permission before managing to slowly push the new moulding in, atom by atom, using nothing but the now weakened force of my arm + what is essentially a plastic ice pick..... 80 feet of this + multiple shelves per every 4 feet 👍I should be flying jets right now but my eyes are rotten from the inside out and I have a prior history of proneness to personal and political extreemism 😄😁😅

I Never Knew This Until I Transformed My Outdoor Space with Custom Landscape Lighting!
Yay! So I used to think that outdoor lighting was just a simple addition to a backyard—a few lights here and there to help with visibility at night. But after transforming my own outdoor space with custom landscape lighting, I realized it’s so much more than that.
It changed the entire look and feel of my home in ways I never expected. The warm glow highlighting my garden, the subtle lights leading up the pathway, and the beautifully lit trees completely redefined my outdoor experience. Here’s what I learned through this transformation—and why you might want to consider it for your own space.
Tumblr media
The Power of Custom Landscape Lighting
It wasn’t until I had the lights installed that I understood the full impact of outdoor lighting. The transformation was immediate. Not only did it enhance the beauty of my yard, but it also added an unexpected level of safety and security. I thought I was just going for aesthetic appeal, but I got so much more out of the process.
Visual Impact: As soon as the lights were installed, my entire outdoor area came to life. The shadows cast by my trees, the highlights on the stone walkway, and the soft illumination of the flower beds created an entirely new atmosphere. It made my home look more inviting and warm, even from the street.
Increased Security: I hadn’t given much thought to security when I started this project, but the difference was clear. With custom lighting placed strategically around my home, it eliminated dark areas where intruders could potentially hide. I instantly felt safer.
Extended Living Space: Before, my backyard was a space I only used during the day. After the installation, it became an extension of my home. I found myself spending more time outside in the evening, enjoying the warm glow as I relaxed or hosted small gatherings.
Why Customization Matters
What surprised me most was how much customization made a difference. Sure, I could have gone with basic, off-the-shelf lighting, but having a custom plan tailored to my space made it feel personal and unique. The lighting wasn’t just functional—it was designed specifically to highlight the best features of my home.
Personalized Design: The team helped me choose lighting that complemented my home’s architecture, highlighting features I hadn’t even noticed before. From the small tree in the corner of the yard to the stone wall that runs alongside the house, everything suddenly had a spotlight.
Energy Efficiency: I was worried that all these new lights would send my electric bill skyrocketing, but thanks to modern LED technology, they’re incredibly energy-efficient. I could enjoy the ambiance without worrying about high costs.
Tips I Wish I Knew Beforehand
As I went through the process of transforming my outdoor space, I picked up a few tips I wish I had known earlier. If you’re considering landscape lighting for your home, here are some things to keep in mind:
Layer Your Lighting: Using different types of lighting—like uplights for trees and path lights for walkways—adds depth to the design. It’s not just about one kind of light; mixing and matching can create stunning effects.
Think About Functionality: While aesthetics are important, don’t forget about the practical aspects. Lighting your pathways and driveways not only looks good but also helps prevent accidents at night.
Hire Professionals: I initially thought about doing it myself, but I’m so glad I hired experts like the team at Got Lights. Their expertise ensured that everything was installed correctly and designed with precision.
The Impact It Had on My Home
After experiencing the transformation firsthand, I realized that custom landscape lighting isn’t just for show—it’s a game-changer for how you interact with your outdoor space. My yard went from being a basic backyard to a cozy, inviting space that feels like an extension of my home. I had no idea how much lighting could elevate the experience until I saw it for myself.
Transforming my outdoor space with custom landscape lighting opened my eyes to the power of light. It didn’t just brighten up my backyard—it changed the way I use and enjoy the entire space. The combination of aesthetics, security, and functionality was something I didn’t fully understand until I went through the process.
If you’re thinking about upgrading your own space, I highly recommend exploring landscape lighting near me. It might surprise you just how much it can change your home. What’s stopping you from creating your own outdoor oasis? Check out Got Lights? for inspiration and expert solutions that fit your unique style.
Have you ever transformed your outdoor space with lighting? What challenges or successes did you experience? Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments! And if you’re ready to see the difference for yourself, Got Lights? has the expertise to bring your vision to life.

Sounds of Atandil
I initially shared part of the playlist in response to this ask, but I've realized I should just make a main post for it that I can keep updated as the series grows. The playlist is intended to go along with the Atandil series and includes one song per installment.
Tumblr media
1. Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis || Ralph Vaughan Williams, Hallé, Sir Mark Elder So as I mentioned in the summary, this is basically the theme for the whole series. It has such a breadth of emotion and beauty in it, and it makes me tear up almost every time. I love this piece so much. And consequently it's really fitting that it's also the primary one associated with Part 1, since that is sort of the flagship installment of the series where all the philosophical framework gets laid out.
2. Gravity || Ludovico Einaudi This piece captures so much of the movement from Grief in All Her Guises. It conjures up the movement of the river in the opening scene, the butterfly that began the Quenya lessons, the laughter around the fire at lunchtime, the sound of Finrod's voice as Balan experiences it moving through him on the hilltop, the overarching movement of the stars dancing overhead.
3. Child of the Troubles || Andrew Simon McAllister Tragically this one no longer plays on Apple Music or Spotify, but I linked to the artist's page in the song title where you can stream it. This one is the partner track to Unfriends and Belen's run-in with the Laiquendi.
4. The Fall || Hans Zimmer Just such excellent Fen of Serech vibes here, especially the 2nd half. I literally listened to this one on loop while writing Ye Shall Render Blood and it is the whole mood of that installment.
5. Solringen || Wardruna The whole piece works well as the right feelings for A Shuddering in the Air, but specifically the chunk beginning at 4:44 was the underlying inspiration for the way they deliver the "oath of parting" in the burial rites at the end.
6. Night || Ludovico Einaudi Appropriately named musical accompaniment for Here in Our Frailty, which takes place all throughout the Longest Night. Additional excellent vibes as that sometimes the warbly effect on certain notes reminds me of the haunting ice sounds that I listened to on loop for the Finrod-has-a-freakout section.
7. Flora || Ludovico Einaudi Ok so apparently half of this playlist is just Ludovico Einaudi, but that's because his stuff is great. The peaceful vibes of lying in a golden field while your crush drops a snowdrop flower on your face and flirts while completely clueless are all over this one, so it's the partner piece to A Heady Fragrance of Honey.
8. Into Dust || Mazzy Star This is my ultimate doomed mortal/immortal relationship song. The only explanation needed here is honestly to direct you straight to the lyrics. It even references fading. Absolute perfection and the correct level of abject sorrow for In Memory Untarnished.
9. Citizen of Glass || Agnes Obel This one is just Correct for Vassal somehow. I'm pretty sure it is this line of lyrics that solidified it for me: Some let go and some hold on / There is no mistake / If I could wash all ill away / Tell me would you stay? But also it just has all the right feelings to it, if that makes sense.
10. Time Escaping || Big Thief Happy road trip music for the boys! Or. Well. Extremely depressing road trip music for the boys given the context and the song title and the mortality and um...god can't these two be happy for one second. Happiness I guess, much like the installment this goes with, is A Shifting Mirage.
11. The Path of the Fossils || Ludovico Einaudi He's back, folks! As I said - apparently half the playlist. But anyway, I love the recurring waves of impending emotion that continuously come back throughout this piece. It works so well with the barrage of feelings that both Finrod and Beren work through in Many a Dreadful Path. And in addition to that, the title plays very nicely with the shelf of memories and Beren's recollection of Emeldir telling him, “Know the path your forefathers set so that in such grounding you may see where your own should diverge.”
12. Númenor || Bear McCreary I have...complicated feelings re Rings of Power (to put it mildly), but thankfully those have not killed how much I love this piece from the soundtrack. In fact, it's so thoroughly associated now with Balan's arrival in Nargothrond in Children of the Sun that I almost forget it very much belongs with something else.
13. Change || Big Thief So much of And Still the Light Returns is about each character navigating change in the other(s) or their circumstances that this just seemed appropriate. Also uh: Would you live forever, never die / While everything around passes? / Would you smile forever, never cry / While everything you know passes?
14. Stretch Your Eyes || Agnes Obel It took me quite awhile to land on one for In These Holy Waters. But about halfway through writing it, this song came on in an old playlist and immediately clicked. It's the movement of the water in the melody, the mingled mournfulness and defiance. The dark and the ghost / They dance so sweet and slow / Dug-out from below there / to damn the gods
15. Song with No Name || Johnny Flynn This album came out right as I was working on Darkly the Sundering Flood and I don't know that I could have found more perfect lyrics to sum up this whole installment than these: As I search for the solace the hills might give me / Heavy the tread of the dead on the way / The path in the rain, in the sun, won't gleam / And the ground is made with death and decay / And an echo of the ones who've walked before me / And joy for the ones who've walked beside me
16. Quene Note || The Henrician Consort Honestly? This one is vibes. I just really like it. It has all the tense melancholy I felt while working on No Gentler Pain.
17. Logos || Ludovico Einaudi Our guy returns again! I'm pretty certain that listening to this piece was what gave me the entire idea for this installment. The bit from 5:00 to the end is, well, no spoilers if you haven't read this installment yet, but it's the feral!Finrod bit.
18. River, Mountain and Love || Johnny Flynn & Robert Macfarlane Well this whole installment felt like a tone-break from the rest of the series, so why not also have a playlist number that feels the same? I am always and forever obsessed with this album. Won't you tumble and dance to the bluebell sea? / Won't you melt back down, won't you come home with me? / River fed all the ferns who unfurl in the old love of spring
19. Petricor || Ludovico Einaudi [Teaser for the upcoming installment.]
