June 6th is National Gun Violence Awareness Day

Today, we solemnly observe National Gun Violence Awareness Day, a day of profound significance that serves as a stark reminder of the far-reaching impact of gun violence on communities worldwide. It's a day to honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the survivors who courageously advocate for change.

We're featuring If Only, an artist's book printed by Stephanie Copoulos-Selle in 2016 at her Citron Press in Waukesha, Wisconsin, in a limited edition of 35 copies. This artist's book delves into the emotional aftermath of gun violence. This powerful piece encourages reflection on the many victims of America's gun culture. As stated in the colophon, "The Constitution allows its citizens to bear arms. But, nowhere, in any society, is an individual allowed to kill people in schools, nightclubs, restaurants, theaters, public malls, or places of worship. Buying automatic military assault guns can cause massive loss of life. Buying a gun for protection can end in killing family members. America's gun obsession results in many types of victims."

Yeah Quintus only really remembers one face, but its useful cause it was really early in his life so it kinda guides him back through all of the modern day to day noise and back to what happened. This assignment was fun although I'll definitely need to revisit the CMYK technique because the cyan came out a little too heavy, and also its really annoying that CSP doesn't have a CMYK color mode instead of a color color mode.

Fine Press Friday

Today we present a few pages from a bittersweet letterpress artist's book, To Fly or Fall, by Wisconsin painter, printmaker, and book artist Stephanie Copoulos-Selle, printed and bound in 2023 at her Citron Press in Waukesha, Wisconsin in a limited edition of 27. In 2020, Stephanie lost her husband, life partner, and fellow artist Tom Selle and this book is a cathartic exercise to contend with her grief.

The book combines repurposed prints and proofs made by both artists over their 44-year marriage. These images, unfortunately, do little justice to the book's sublime movement and balance, but we hope something of the poignancy of its contents are conveyed adequately.
