First Impressions Matter: Make Your Website Shine
A stunning website design is like a red carpet for your brand. Visitors make snap judgments, and a modern, engaging design instantly grabs their attention. Imagine your site as a high-end boutique, welcoming visitors with a fresh, stylish look that makes them want to explore more.
An upgraded design not only attracts attention but also creates a lasting impression that encourages users to stay and interact with your content.
Navigate with Ease: Create a Seamless User Journey
Effective navigation is like a well-organized map guiding users through your website. With a redesign, you can create an intuitive layout that makes finding information a breeze. Clear labels, logical structure, and user-friendly menus ensure visitors effortlessly reach their destination.
This streamlined approach enhances their experience, making it easy for them to find what they’re looking for and keeping them engaged with your site.
Master Content Management: Simplify and Optimize
A modern content management system (CMS) transforms how you handle your site’s content. Imagine a tool that lets you update text, images, and media effortlessly without any technical hassles.
A revamped CMS provides a user-friendly interface, enabling you to keep your site current and relevant. With features like SEO tools and analytics, you can easily personalize your content and track your site’s performance to better engage with your audience.
Social Media Sync: Boost Your Online Interaction
Integrating social media into your website amplifies your reach and fosters interaction. Think of it as adding a vibrant social hub to your site where visitors can connect, share, and engage with your brand. By embedding social media feeds and share buttons, you keep your content dynamic and encourage visitors to interact across multiple platforms. This integration not only drives traffic but also strengthens your online presence and brand engagement.
Secure and Protect: Upgrade Your Website’s Safety
A secure website is crucial for building trust and safeguarding user data. Modern security features act like a digital fortress protecting your site from potential threats. By updating your site with SSL certificates, firewalls, and regular security checks, you ensure that your visitors’ information remains safe.
Prioritizing security in your redesign enhances credibility and provides a secure environment for users to engage with your content.
Transform Your Digital Space: Elevate Your Website Experience
Revamping your website goes beyond aesthetics; it’s about enhancing how you connect with your audience. Focusing on first impressions, intuitive navigation, efficient content management, social media integration, and robust security will set your site up for success. A thoughtful redesign revitalizes your brand’s online presence, making it more engaging, user-friendly, and secure. Get ready to elevate your website and create a dynamic platform that resonates with your audience and stands out in the digital landscape.

Ironhack 5th week: site redesign project
This week we were tasked with redesigning a site for a small business, putting some information architecture, branding, and responsive layout techniques (inc. HTML & CSS) into practice.
I was in a group with Lidia Ruiz Olmedo & Elisabetta Lanzafame and we worked like a dream. All of us had different approaches, insights and experience which made for a beautiful cocktail - we collaborated smoothly, supported one another’s needs and in the end finished with something all of us were very happy with. All in a week’s work.
This project was somewhat different from the others, with less user research and more emphasis on information architecture, responsive design (inc. coding) & branding. This meant that the project’s process was notably different from previous projects. This both was a refreshing and challenging change of rhythm.
What I found most testing was the coding. I’m not particularly familiar with coding and have never had to do a great deal of it, despite always having had an interest. This week gave me the opportunity to dive further into HTML & CSS languages. There was friction and frustration in getting my head around it, but at the end of the day I feel I learnt a lot from having done it.
Reviewing the end result, I think we did a great job and I’m so lucky to have had my teammates I did. The final design is the fruit of a beautiful collaboration of three hardworking girls.

The final wire-frame mock up made for project 6 is the standard laptop screen size. It is the websites largest size, and the most horizontal of the three. One of the most differentiating aspects of the laptop screen size is with it being wider, there is not much interaction vertically. It also allows the navigational bar to be beside the logo for the first time, instead of under it. These wire-frames are just rough ideas as to what I had in mind for the overall layout, and the final may stray from the initial frame designs.

CSS and Website Redesign
There was plenty of coding learned throughout this past month going from selectors and visual rules, the box model, display and positioning, and adding color. We began learning more about adding styles to coding and linking HTML and CSS files together. When I was doing the exercises for The Box Model, I learned about adding heights and widths to objects to minimize and maximize them. This is also where borders, padding, and margins came into play. Display and positioning was a fun exercise personally for myself because I enjoyed seeing the site change as I was coding. Lastly, of course color began to play a large role in coding because you can’t customize your site without your touch of color and color palettes. With only a couple more CSS exercises to go, I’d say I’ve learned quite a bit about the world of coding. It’s amazing how many little tricks and abbreviations there are within the coding world.
Now, onto project four. This project was a process I tell you not. Of course, every project and exercise within the graphic design realm is always a process. As you can see, above there is a screenshot of the original site animalcaresociety.org. This was a very poorly designed website, however, the thought within the site is definitely there. Instantly, when you go onto the site, you see pixelated images, unknown links, outdated posts, and terrible visual hierarchy. This non-profit animal shelter based in Louisville, KY needed a complete website redesign. Making the site more visually appealing to the viewer will lead to higher views, therefore, leading to more donations and popularity for the animal shelter.
In my last blog post, I began recreating the wireframe for the site prototype I thought would be the one. However, after hours looking at my computer screen, I finally came upon my new idea for the site. This idea created a more visual stimulating experience for the viewers and easy navigation throughout the site. Before, some pages were too crammed and there wasn’t enough white space within my wireframes so I decided to go along a different route. Not only did I change my wireframes, but I also changed the look of my sitemap. This sitemap included more of what is on each page in the way of navigation and looking a lot more organized and cleaned up. When I was completely done with my wireframes, I ended up with eight art boards total due to the “hover” secondary navigation that I wanted to be included on my site. Unfortunately, during my presentation of my site redesign, I completely forgot to show and talk about the hover down navigation.
Working in XD on this project was very helpful and it was fairly easy to figure out what all you could do on the app and how to add and move objects around. I was able to add in the pictures and colors where they appropriately needed to be and fix any text. I decided on making the color palette vary of shades of grey and a red and light blue color. These colors all meshed together pretty well. All throughout my process of making little changes to the spacing, cropping pictures more, or changed the colors of objects, it all had to be updated within my wireframe and sitemap. That honestly was what felt like the longest part of this project. It felt like you almost needed to wait until you completely had the site how you wanted it and then went back and made the changes for the wireframe and sitemap. I did not end up using the InVision App, however, I did play around on it a bit. It was neat seeing the site actually come to life without having to make clicks and instead objects would appear by hovering over them. I still have a ton to learn about the InVision App, though.
When it came down to presenting our website redesigns and showing the prototypes and mockups, I know I have plenty of presentation skills to improve upon. Next time, maybe making an actual presentation for all of my information would be helpful like some of my classmates did. This way, I would know exactly what to say and what all I’m going to be going over. I tried to label each part of my presentation within the folder I had for it, but it got a bit jumbled when I had the older version of my XD file instead of the updated one. The Google forms critique was very helpful in seeing what my classmates thought of my work and what they thought could be improved upon.
All in all, though this project was a process, I did enjoy it thoroughly. I enjoyed changing the look of a “not-so-good” website design and completely redesigning the site to include better visual hierarchy and usability. I’m excited now to see what this next project over blue laws will consist of!

The website inspiration here is a site that deals with archaeology in Europe. Though the site itself is not the greatest design, it is simple, and it does have a decent organizational sense to it for a lot of information which is a similar problem with the Oceans of Kansas site.
