132. Blush
♡ Pairing - Vash x Reader
♡ Word count - 0.6k
♡ Warnings - none
♡ Description: You're very distracted while mending Vash's coat.
Part of the 150 Bullets drabble series on AO3.
Tumblr media
You try to stop staring.
You really try.
The teal lining of Vash’s coat sits open on your lap. You’d offered to patch up the tears within, noting strings of blue hanging off the cuffs and closure. As hardy as his coat is, the inside is nearly as torn up as the man himself.
But that isn’t what you’re staring at. No.
It’s your friend and the brick house build he was hiding under the coat.
His broad back is turned to you. It feels like an eclipse. Vash is messing with lunch, letting out hums and little clicks of the tongue as the food cooks in the blazing suns’ rays. The outcropping’s shade keeps you cool enough. Still, you feel sweat slide down your back, and you have to squint against the metallic shine from the nearby town.
You don’t know how he handles the heat. Eyes roving over his figure (his very large, very interesting figure), you boggle at the black turtleneck. It’s not a thick shirt by any means, but still. How is he not baking? And the coat on top of it!
Looking back to the coat on your lap, you pinch the fabric between two fingers and rub. It lets out a skeet-skrt sound. Very hardy. You don’t know how bullets bounce off it. You glance at Vash again. He’s so…big. How did you miss it? How do the bullets miss someone so big? You trace the line of his back, the rounded muscles of his shoulders, his slim waist. He reaches for some powdered potatoes and water, and you see the delicate bunch of his forearm’s muscles when he grabs them. Your mouth waters.
As if sensing your stare, Vash looks back at you. His smile is instant and pleasant. “Whatcha thinkin’ about?”
A blush overtakes your throat, and you’re left clearing it and looking anywhere but him. “Just…wondering how you’re not hot wearing all of this.” There. A half-truth.
Vash pauses and looks down at his clothes as if seeing them for the first time. Then, he chuckles and goes back to cooking. “Guess I’m just used to the heat!”
That’s a lie. No one is used to the heat of this dead planet. But you’ve already dodged one bullet; you aren’t about to start prying into what he doesn’t want you to know. So, you go back to staring. He stirs what’s in the pan. It sizzles and pops, and you watch his bicep and forearm bunch and contract with use. His other limb – the robotic one – holds the pan steady.
What would it take for him to hold you steady?
You prick your finger suddenly and hiss. You’d forgotten you were even sewing. A blot of blood wells on the tip. Reaching for your medikit, you’re aware of Vash’s eyes suddenly on you. Again, you feel embarrassed; that familiar flush to your skin. “I’m fine,” you say, bringing out a small Band-Aid and wrapping it quickly around. You hold up your finger to show. “See?”
Vash shakes his head and stirs the meal. “You don’t have to do that, you know. I can mend my coat.”
“I know,” you say, then scramble for something else to reassure him, “but then I’d have to be the one cooking, and I’d definitely get sweat in it.”
Vash laughs. “Gross.”
A smile comes to your lips. It falls away again when you look him over. His large stature, his resistance to heat, his easy smile whenever something goes wrong…What else are you hiding? You wonder. Taking up needle and thread again, you force yourself to focus on sewing up the holes and tears he’s endured.
Maybe, in time, you’ll be able to do it to his heart, too.

mw older fcs?
not sure what you mean by "older" so i'll just go for it. you can find some suggestions here and here and ofc anyone you choose to bless us with will be loved and wanted. all of the fcs listed below are over the age of 35 (even though I strongly disagree with the rpc considering someone old at 35, but that's neither here nor there):
Keanu Reeves, Carla Gugino, Eddie Cibrian, Michelle Yeoh, Gil Birmingham, Zahn McClarnon, Cheyenne Jackson, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Lucy Liu, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Greyeyes, Channing Tatum, Laverne Cox, Angela Bassett, Benjamin Bratt, Michael Michele, Morris Chestnut, Michelle Gomez, Brian Michael Smith, Ming Na-Wen, James Hong, Gina Torres, Billy Porter, Laurence Fishburne, Daniel Sunjata, Daniel Wu, Danny Pino, Levy Tran, Veronico Ngo, Serkan Çayoğlu, Patrick Wilson, George Young, Toby Stephens, Ewan McGregor, Maggie Q, Li BingBing, Elodie Yung, Aidan Turner, Byron Mann, Tommy Flanagan, Nathalie Kelley, Martin Sensmeier, Gabriel Macht, Maite Perroni, Gabriel Luna, Oscar Isaac, Diego Luna, Josh Segarra, Lance Gross, Daniel Henney, Theo James, Mahesh Jadu, Dylan Bruce, Sarah Shahi, Manu Bennett, Tony Leung, Famke Janssen, Skeet Ulrich, Marisol Nichols, Mark Consuelos, Madchen Amick, Benedict Wong, Aishwarya Rai, Bianca Lawson, Conrad Ricamora, Gong Yoo, Jamie Clayton, Isaiah Mustafa, John Cho, Octavia Spencer, Michaela Conlin, Omar Sy, Santiago Cabrera, Randall Park, Taraji P Henson, Taika Waititi, Yasmine Al Massri, Travis Fimmel, Sterling K Brown

While we are on the topic of shitty men. Never forget that Skeet Ulrich is a sleazy womaniser who gaslights women, no amount of fapping you do to him playing a serial killer 25 years ago will change the fact that he’s gross.

Yeah it was a gross oversight by the show to have Tangs be in touch with FP but Jug doesn't even mention him yet I'm supposed to believe he talks to his mom and somehow she has his comic book collection (although that was probably part of the coma- which like you I've always thought would be the case after S5 explosion) I understand Skeet wanted to leave but Jug and FP's relationship was the heart of the show and its been lacking without it, he should have at least been mentioned the last 2 yrs
Hard agree, but I’m hoping they sorta fix that

I watched the new scream movie finally and I have some big thoughts!
Spoilers under the cut
Tumblr media
Firstly the references are completely on point. I wouldn’t expect anything less from such an iconic series. Off to the side in one of the shots of woodsboro you can actually see a sign that says elm st, an obvious nod to Wes’s other famous franchise!
There are so many little red herrings and nods from the original that while I was very disappointed Matthew lillard didn’t reprise his role in any form you just have to sit in awe at the dedication to their trope. It truly is always someone you know.
I like the name drops of modern horror and the acknowledgment that it’s progressed to much more artistic means than films of horrors past. Another thing I love is that the stereotype of the black characters dying first is lifted. I love the attention to modern horror’s progression and nods to directors such as Jordan peele famous for his black horror. Also our main characters are two poc women! Subverting all sorts of expectations in this bitch!!!
I loved seeing skeet ulrich’s 5 o clock shadow as he pretended to be a teenager again in the form of psychosis and I like that while her psychosis is sort of dramaticized she’s never outright villanized (that I remember) for being “crazy”
The blood….I love this style of blood. It’s dark and just thick enough and just runny enough and as an effects lover this couldn’t have tickled me more! The effects…there’s a scene where a knife goes partially though a neck and I adored it and another where we see a knife go through both cheeks and see it in their mouth and just….uuugh. Beautiful. My girlfriend teased me through covered eyes that all of this was in fact not cool but gross 😅
I loved the parallels between Halloween, screams of the past, and classics like psycho. I loved when Wes was in the kitchen all the fake outs that they did! And while I could go on and preach about everything I loved let’s talk about things I didn’t love…
The motive. We saw the crazy fan motive sort of in the last movie and while this one is mildly different I didn’t care for it. The Reddit name drops and the fandom lingo really took me personally out of the movie. I didn’t like it and maybe my bitterness is amplified by the lack of stu macher.
I didn’t like that Dewey died,,,,but I don’t think anyone cared for that. It was almost out of character how careless Dewey was. He couldn’t have waited to double tap our masked murderer and couldn’t have even done it from a distance…. An unnecessary death of a deeply loved character…in my personal opinion.

Slight Scream 1 Spoilers Ahead:
So I'm in a forensics class and today we took our own fingerprints using the ink that would be used to fingerprint in an actual criminal case. When I washed my hands it washed off easily, like, no stain at all. People are encouraged and often required to wash the ink off after getting their prints taken.
In Scream (1996), Billy shows up at school the next day after being arrested and shows Sidney the stains on his fingers to show that he was at the police station.
Which, based on the evidence, implies that Billy Loomis is a nasty little boogerboy who doesn't wash his hands, like, at all.
He licked that hand.
Gross. Be better, Billy.

Book review: The Hunting Wives by May Cobb
TW: Statutory rape, date rape
This book is bad. No two ways about it, this is just a bad book. I was intrigued by the synopsis. Woman wants to spend more time with her family so she moves to the suburbs, but then realizes she's bored there and has no outlet for her bad side. She joins a group of similarly bored socialites who get together for skeet shooting and partying. Shit goes down, and our main girl Sophie finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation
Sounds interesting, right? What the synopsis fails to mention is that the partying involves these middle aged women sexually assaulting high school boys. And Sophie getting assaulted by one of them. And none of the characters ever do anything to stop this, or have a conversation like "hey this is fucked up" no, it's played like it's supposed to be titillating. It is not. It is gross.
There are major differences between being bored with your quiet suburban life, not being satisfied in your marriage, and committing statutory rape. At one point Sophie mentions she looked up the age of consent in Texas which is 17, and tries to pretend that everything is fine because the high schooler she was with is 18.
It is possible to have characters who are bad people and do bad things. But the narrative needs to show that they are bad people. This book tried to pretend that having a relationship with your friend's high school son was sexy. It is not. It is illegal. It's implied that the relationship started before he was over the age of consent. I shouldn't have to say why that is bad.
Sophie supposedly goes along with all this stuff these women do because she's obsessed with/attracted to Margot. One time, her dream comes true and she does get to have sex with Margot. Sophie is so drunk/potentially roofied that she is incapable of giving consent and blacks out afterwards. This is the most explicit sex scene of the book. It's supposed to be sexy. It's not.
Illegal sex stuff aside, the structure of this book is also just straight up bad.
let's start with the writing. Way too much telling. Not every detail needs to be filled in, and honestly some of the descriptions of the characters seem like something I would find on fanfiction.net in 2012 (I say as someone reading/writing self insert fic as a middle schooler at that time).
"It feels so good to be in a dress; I can't remember the last time I wore one, and I've piled my hair in a neat but relaxed bun. Hoping for chic, but effortlessly so. Silver earrings in the shape of feathers tickle my neck as I turn to scan the crowd, hoping to spot them as soon as they arrive."
"I had just finished my morning jog on the trail that runs through the woods near our house. I had stepped inside the back door and peeled off my yoga pants, which were drenched with sweat and sucking and clinging to my thighs, and slid back into my comfy flannel pj's."
Those two examples are pulled from the very beginning of the book. It's just not the best writing I've ever seen. Not engaging, and a lot of the details that are included are unnecessary.
Sophie, the main character is completely unlikable. Like I said earler, totally fine to have characters that are unlikable or do bad things, but as a reader I still need to care about why they are being bad people. Sophie is just a bad person who does bad things while also seemingly never making any decisions.
When she first finds out that the Hunting Wives involves more than the hunting you do with guns, she didn't like it, but went along with it anyways. Despite seeming happy with her marriage with Graham, she still went out to the bars with these women to pick up men. And she still tried to be friends with them even when she saw Margot intentionally flirting with underage boys and was informed by someone else in the group that this was a regular occurrence. See my earlier point about the difference between being bored with suburbia and felony crimes.
I can tell what this book was trying to do, but it just wasn't executed properly. There were threads introduced that weren't followed through properly, and the whole murder investigation sequence is weak and reeks of white privilege. There's a creepy neighbor that Sophie sees on her morning runs who is introduced in such a way that you think he might be important, but he's a very minor background character. It's implied at the beginning that Sophie's obsession with Facebook will go somewhere, and it doesn't.
The murder investigation is probably the most infuriating part of the whole plot. While being the prime suspect, Sophie goes galavanting around, talking to the people who are also complicit in this crime, and even driving two hours to Dallas to do detective work trying to clear her name. She's able to call the detective working on her case and tell him about what she's been doing and she faces no consequences for her actions. No she didn't commit the murders, but she still did illegal things.

Y/N POV
I heard the rev of Tendou’s motorbike outside my window. I grabbed my jacket and Climbed out my open window.  I took the lightest steps I could around and passed Mei’s window. I grabbed the tree and started to climb down. I walked up to Tendou.
“You look hot when you are angry babe.”
“Gross, let’s just get out of here.” I grabbed the helmet from his hands as I climbed on the back.
We rode down the rural neighbourhoods of the city. I never felt more relaxed than I did in that moment, my arms wrapped around him, the wind blowing on my body  as we rode off. I wanted this moment to last. We soon stopped as Tendou reached for his helmet.
“This is my thinking spot. It’s usually quiet this time of night.” I took my helmet off and stepped off the bike.
“I didn’t expect you to be of all people to need a thinking spot. Though you just Monster listed them.”
“Unfortunately there's things the Monsters can’t always help with.” The atmosphere around him seemed to change to somewhat of a depressing vibe.
“I really liked being on the bike. I didn’t even notice we ended up going up a hill to this lookout point.”
“I knew you’d be distracted once you got to touch me.” He said with a wink as he pulled me into his arms. Our lips almost touched as he whispered. “Everytime I see you, you get more beautiful.”
“Gross.” I whispered back as we both went in for a kiss..
Tendou’s phone startled us as he pulled away.
“What is it?” He asked as he answered the phone. A few minutes of silence passed.
“No, I am at the lookout point. Can’t he just lie like he always does?” A deep sigh came from him as he heard the response.
“Just give him my special stash and tell him to give it to her only if she won't come back. Shes a fucking bitch anyways. No one is at a loss by this. What’s a few couple hundred to get a forever problem solved?” Tendou laughed at whoever was on the other side of the phone and hung up.
“Sorry Y/n. Monster shit never stops when Teru”s one time hook ups won’t stop coming back.”
“I don’t understand why you covered his ass. He’s going to act like a pig. He should deal with it on his own.” I slapped a hand over my mouth “I didn’t mean to say that out loud.”
“I know you aren’t the only one who sees it that way but Teru and Mad have been here for me always. We used to be little brats back in our elementary days too. Teru was actually a Quiet little devil at first. I do admit we definitely have opposite opinions on girls' purpose. He did watch his mom go through boys every other day some new guy railing her in the kitchen when he got home from school. His mom told him if the sex isn’t an 10 then they are not worth it”
“How would he even know what a 10 is?’’
“I think he just does it to feel some kind of connection to a girl. In hope’s to find ‘The one’, he just wants to be loved and accepted by someone. He knows he's got us but he’s never felt loved by his mom, doesn’t even know who his dad is.”
“I had no idea, I feel terrible now” I said back to him. He pulled me closer to him again as he rested on the rail.
“He’s honestly such a good guy. All four of them are. Mad gets in a lot of fights because that's all he knew his entire childhood from his 3 older brothers used to fight him. His dad was about the same in that sense too. The reason he always punches instead of thinks before he acts is that is what he's been taught. He moved out of his house at 16 after we got some income and met the other two. Started to raise some hell in our school you know?”
“It makes sense why he always tries to fight everyone then.”I said back.
“Hanamaki though is a rich kid whose parents would rather pretend he doesn’t exist. He lived with his grandma on the other side of Tokyo till she passed away in the last year of middle school. Now they buy him whatever he wants while they live who knows where in the world. Him and Matsukawa have been friends since elementary though, Matsun even followed him to Highschool cause he got expelled the last day of school for setting a classroom on fire smoking too close to some curtains. Matsukawa though also didn’t have a good upbringing. His mom left him at 2 years old outside a random house with a note saying she never wanted him. It took 4 years for him to find his father, by then the kid already had some damage because of the system. His dad worked too much to see it for himself though. That just made his choice to move in with Maki much easier for him. That's how we all kinda met though, our broken homes.” Tendou finished, as he turned away and looked out at the view.
“What’s your story Satori?” I asked him.
“My father’s in jail, my mother is dead.”
“Holy shit, I am so sorry Satori.”
“I spent most of my childhood jumping from foster home to foster home. I was a demon spawn though. Always making sure they would move me around. Getting my nickname Guess Monster cause no one knew what I would do next. I live with my grandma now.” He said.
“I am sorry I always called you the second biggest asshole on earth. I had no idea.” He just laughed knowing I meant Oikawa as number one.
“And how about you y/n? What’s your story?”
“Um, my mom left us for a guy in Paris when I was young. I was basically raising Mei as my child, with my father being a doctor he's usually never home. Well till I started dipping on her for Oikawa. Now she hates my guts and my father spoils her so much cause he feels bad about missing out so much.”
“Wait Oikawa? I thought you always hated him” He said. I began to explain to him the same story I had told Mei earlier the night. “I always knew he was a piece of shit.”
“If only Mei did. That’s why we fought too.” Tendou pulled me in closer again. He smiled at me as he gave his signature smile.
“It’s nice to have someone to trust outside of my circle again.” He pulled me into a passionate kiss….
The night continued for a bit longer as he brought me back home once again. I got off his bike and looked down at him as he took his helmet off and stood up.
“Satori.”
“Yes Y/n?”
“You were right, I did fall for you.” With that I placed a passionate kiss on his lips again. I pulled away and turned around to begin to climb back into my house...

Ummm.....Kaia wasn't and he's gross? Plus funny how they're all adults, capable of making their own choices (true) and nobody's perving anywhere, buuuut.....you're the same crew who used to bag on Cari for their much smaller age difference and insisted Cole (prior to turning 30) was "fast approaching 40".....and bagged on Skeet over just this all the time.
It's as if you apply a completely different set of rules when you (inexplicably) "approve"....
Tumblr media
Ohhh.....okay, now we're back to "Cole's evvolll cuz he smokes"??? Got it!
And, again, Sweatboi is distinctly not hot, dude.....(and speaking of 12 year olds....)
Tumblr media
This is really, really sad.....for them to try and make it thusly and seriously for him....almost as pathetic as thinking your pee arr GF is working for Ralphie from a random, mistaken tweet and rushing to show your support.....while winding up showing you two have no interaction except for the public, huh?
Tumblr media
Guess he should've stuck with Armani Fragrances, Lancel and Miu Miu? Also why wouldn't he have just posted "thank you"?

There’s a reason Skeet is a washed up actor. He was one of the hottest up & coming and sought after young stars ‘96-‘99 and let his opportunities slip away because of his excessive partying and addictions that led to unprofessional behavior and bad decisions on top of a swelled head. I’d add his skeevy behavior to the list but that doesn’t usually destroy a hot actor’s career especially back then. He even had to get new teeth because of his problems. (His literally fake smile now gives me the heebie jeebies.)
He got a third chance (he fucked up his second chance in television as well due to the same issues) thanks to Roberto. And what does he do? Tosses away a normal family life and stable wellness so he could join in the Cole Sprouse debauchery and use his newfound fame to score better drugs and younger women. He’s always been a sleazebag and will always be a sleazebag. Just because he’s “nice” to some fans and castmembers doesn’t change that. I mean, how Uncle Bad Touch did he look leering at Barbara and the girl dancing from the couch? And who introduces fuck buddies to their kids on a regular basis?
All of this is 💯 true. He was being compared to Johnny Depp and Leo in the 90s. Look at his filmography at the time. He was working on Scream, The Craft, As Good as it Gets. He was in an Ang Lee film. He had the career Cole could only wish to have now in his wildest dreams. And he fucked it all up. He’s gross.
