Biggest scene hot take ?

Okay, here it is:

'California' haters are too blinded by their Tom nostalgia goggles and went in too ready to hate Matt Skiba's part in it - I truly believe if it had been recorded note for note, word for word, beat for beat exactly the same, with the only difference being Tom's vocals where Matt's are - but otherwise, exactly the same — it would be heralded as their best album since the Untitled.

Now, to be clear, I do love Tom and I'm glad he's back; I also agree that Mark and Matt's vocals were a little too similar, where a lot of the fun of Mark & Tom is the contrast between their voices — but that doesn't stop the fact this is still a Top Five album for Blink and I think the haters are just lying to themselves.

since i'm about to go on a baking spree before christmas i'd like to share a little headcanon

a lot of people seem to hc sephiroth as being unable to cook. i've always thought the opposite, although it's a bit ironic. sephiroth is a fantastic cook and baker, but he rarely eats the latter stuff. he's a complete health food freak, borderline pescatarian, all about lean meats, complex carbs, vitamin dense veggies, the works.

the sole reason he learned to bake was through angeal. he owns a collection of recipes angeal gifted him, half of which are old traditional banoran recipes, the other half handwritten ones from gillian. there are translations of the traditional ones, of course, but gillian's are so interesting to sephiroth. her cursive is neat and precise, and there's no shortage of love and care and attention to detail. (and something about having a mother's touch... just feels nice.)

most interestingly, a lot of the recipes call for things like honey in place of refined sugar. banora, being full of apple orchards, naturally has a thriving apiary business. honey was far more common and cheaper than sugar there. also, few recipes call for salt -- there's a note from angeal about it. their butter was always heavily salted, being cheaper and less pure, and it kept easier too, so if he's using unsalted butter, be sure to add a little salt in there.

there's recipes for things like soda bread, how to make your own buttermilk, all kinds of neat substitutions for when certain supplies are in short supply. there's notes all over the place, additions from gillian, angeal, an unknown third person (angeal's late father, sephiroth suspects), and even genesis somehow sneaked a few comments in there.

after his death, every year on angeal's birthday, sephiroth makes honeyed apple crisp. he shares it with zack, a quiet moment where sephiroth can and will indulge himself in a little something that brings them closer together.)
