I have yet to purge myself of drawing Skyhooks, bear with me. This is for the upcoming Google Sites page.

Context- Southbound is an **artificial** speculative evolution project centering primarily around the speculative biology and evolution of machines, often with a focus on aircraft. Unless specifically stated otherwise, instalments take place somewhere on the surface of the tidally-locked planet, Xoturanseria (Anser).

Specific Context-

"Low-altitude" refers to the position Skyhooks assume when flying at lower altitudes. The wings are fully spread to maximize lift. Occasionally this position is also taken to regulate body temperature.

"High-altitude" refers to the position Skyhooks will assume at higher elevations. The wings are hardly extended, and the machine primarily parasitizes surrounding conditions to accelerate without actively flapping its wings.

"Stooping" is self-explanatory. If you see a Skyhook stooping at you, it is already too late. This behavior is only observed when the Skyhook is attacking something larger than itself. It will execute this maneuver to cripple whatever happens to be in its way. Interestingly, this position has led to the nickname of "Peacock Satellite", for the resemblance to a peacock eye feather.

Shh!: On a light blue background, several Bikini Babes surround a small Finn, Jake, and BMO. Finn and Jake are chasing BMO with axes. Each character is drawn in blue pen and not colored in, instead filled with off-white. The title is in the center in the same style but colored pink.

so I was rewatching Skyhooks last night, and I wanna talk about Ice King's bespoke suit.

First of all, he only gets one at the behest of Life Giving Magus. When asked, Ice King tells Magus on the phone that he's planning on wearing his blue muumuu on the date, and Magus insists that he needs a suit that will highlight his best attributes.

He does wear the suit on the date, and Betty seems almost hopeful, but Ice King looks very out of place, though he has quite literally stuffed himself into this suit (his beard is stuffed beneath the suit jacket)

During the date, Ice King is very confused, even to the point that he gets scared when Betty lashes out at him (in his thoughts, he says something like "she's freakin' me out").

And then at home, he tries to hide how disappointed he is that the date ended poorly by trying to downplay it when talking to Gunter.

And then Betty returns to try and meet him where he's at! And Ice King is so fucking happy

and then he's confused and saddened when Betty disappears. When Patience Saint Prim tells him that Betty's mom showed up and took her away, he says, "...Her mom?" and makes this face.

Then, we have this look. Ice King, but with Simon's glasses and a hidden crown. He even calls this a disguise—he knows that this is not representative of who he is.

Once Betty arrives, Ice King loses the suit jacket and lets his beard out.

Then, we have these shots where he's unshrunken the crown and (for some reason?) tucked his beard into his shirt.

and at the end of it all, when Betty betrays everyone and leaves Ice King alone again, we find out that the muumuu has been under his clothes this entire time.

this is a silly visual gag, yes, but I also think it's a really good representation of what exactly all of Skyhooks was for Ice King and Betty. Betty held out hope for Simon, and Ice King has been wearing that suit as a costume. He was hiding behind it. And now that's gone, and he is all that's left.

Just as we exit from one miniseries, we enter another as Finn, Jake, and BMO, after returning from Founders Island, notice that everything is different around the Land of Ooo while they are gone, when they see that the land and Tree House are covered in candy. The first episode of the Elements mini-series, “Elements: Skyhooks”, premiered on this day, 8 Years Ago.

Giant Skyhook (Baikarufa yago)

The Giant Skyhook is a rare funnelfalcon only found in the mid-to-upper atmosphere of Anser. Like other satellites, the Giant Skyhook lacks discernable eyes or sensory quills, instead relying on advanced sensors along the jaw as well as echolocation at close range.

When the Skyhook senses something moving ahead of it, it will emit a loud clacking noise to disorient and provide a clearer image of the potential prey or threat. When in range, the Skyhook will rapidly slow itself and deploy its legs to snatch its quarry.

Although unable to survive at the same altitude that its smaller relative, the Tellurion Satellite, can, Giant Skyhooks are quite adaptable to most altitudes in the mid-to-upper atmosphere, primarily preying on other extreme-altitude machines. They will also, interestingly enough, prey on machines much larger than themselves. Instances of Skyhooks intercepting Blackbirds and Shuttles are not unheard of.

Many Chângipi religions state that the deity Neucti'scuan- the Second King of the Night- inhabits the form of a Giant Skyhook. It symbolizes the eventual Heat Death of the Universe.
