The birds chirping stirs you first, the sunlight leaking through the half opened flap at the front of the tent, second. Eyes shifting behind closed lids that aren’t ready to open yet, the soft sound of Steve’s slumbered breathing next to you brings the beginning of a smile tugging up at the corners of your lips. The clinking of metal from Bandit’s leash outside is what finally gets you to open your eyes. You’d heard Steve in a daze take him out to pee before letting him bring in the sunrise outside the tent, quickly realizing this was the dog’s favorite part of these getaways.
The air mattress makes a noise that has you cringing when you roll over on the spread out sleeping bags to get a better look at him, the fresh humidity making your skin stick to it. You can’t stop that sigh that slips past your lips at the sight as he takes up room on his back. His permanent bed head is even messier than normal from a night under the stars with your hands in his hair and the stubble that lines his jaw rubbing the inside of your thighs raw. Rejuvenated after a shower that washed off the first two days of the trip.
The streaks of gray that sprinkle through his honey locks stand out even more in the daylight. The crows feet and laugh lines that you’d like to think got deeper in his first year with you are smoothed out in his sleep. You can’t help but wonder what he’s dreaming about, secretly hoping it’s you and not just the morning that has the blood rushing south.
His chest is bare, the dark thatch of hair in the middle looking soft in the warm light, the moles and freckles that dot his tan skin beg to be kissed, just like the sun had the pleasure of doing all weekend. One leg is kicked out of the covers, revealing a low hanging pair of black mesh shorts giving you a peek at the faint hint of a tan line from your days hiking down to the lake. A big hand lays spread across his stomach while the other looks like it got halfway across the small space between you on the search for yours before he fell back asleep.
Your thighs press together in your small sleep shorts, searching for some kind of friction that you know won’t be enough for the low simmer that’s already started deep in your gut. Why did he always have to look so good?
Steve licks his full lips, and you can’t help the way your hand starts to wander towards the ache between your legs that’s begging for attention. Fighting with your self control, your nerves ring in your ears and you swear the birds outside get louder when the tips of your fingers start to play with your waist band.
You freeze when he grunts, blunt nails scratching his stomach making the muscles in his pecs flex. The slight pinch of his brows when something happens in his dream is enough for you to push past the elastic, your fingertips meeting your already dripping folds with a shaky breath through your nose.
Your hips roll, your pointer and index finger spreading your lips apart before the pads of them catch your bundle of nerves when you drag them back up with enough pressure to make you whimper. They don’t feel as good as his, and your heavy lidded gaze focuses on his hand spread across his stomach as you add a third finger to try and mimic the feeling. It’s almost enough and it makes you have to bite your lip to keep quiet, the sound of how wet you already are is almost enough to compete with the growing sounds of the woods coming alive.
“Fuck - honey,” Steve’s voice startles you, thick with sleep and the unmistakable gravel of want, “Why didn’t you wake me up if you needed me so bad huh?”
Your eyes meet his, and all you can do is whine in response when you see all the colors usually inside of them first thing in the morning are gone. The bright greens and gold specks are replaced with something dark and hungry, jaw a little slack while his own hand reaches down, squeezing his now fully hard length over his shorts to relieve some of the throb.
“You know I’d never say no to you,” He whispers, his own hips rocking into his palm. You start to push two fingers in, your greedy walls fluttering despite the embarrassment of being caught making heat rise to your cheeks.  “What’s got you so worked up baby?”
He pushes his shorts half way down his hairy thighs, the full thickness of his cock smacking against the dark trail on his stomach. Already leaking, the fat tip of him looks angry as he wraps his fingers around the base, the pad of his thumb swiping over the top making him shudder. He pumps once, twice before rolling over on his side, kicking his shorts all the way off along with the blanket exposing you both to the morning air.
“Come on, don’t be shy now.” He’s closer like this, your noses almost touching and you can smell last night's bonfire still lingering. His eyes roam your body while his wrist sets a slow pace watching your nipples pebble under the thin fabric of your tank when a light breeze ruffles the walls of your tent.
“Y-you - you just looked so good.” Your confession sounds pathetic, but it makes his eyes squeeze shut and a deep breath exhale through his nose, cock twitching in his big hand before he opens them again.
He leans in so his lips ghost against yours, the tip of his tongue tracing the curve of your bottom one before licking into your mouth to steal your breath with the kind of kiss that was usually reserved for late nights after a couple of bottles of wine.
“Take your shorts off, be good for me and let me see honey.” He pants, already wrecked, pressing another soft kiss to your lips before shifting to sit up, the air mattress making you bounce with the redistribution of his weight giving him the perfect view down every curve and dip of your body.
Listening to him, you feel more exposed than ever with your legs spread wide despite no one being around. Steve groans at the visual of you like this, the motions of his wrist getting quicker while his free hand reaches down to pull up your tank by the hem, the soft fat of your breasts spilling out for his hungry eyes. It feels dirty and new, touching yourself like this for him and it only adds to the growing slick between your thighs.
“God, I’m so lucky - can’t believe you're mine. Wakin’ up to you like this? So damn pretty, baby - shit.” He groans, already babbling, squeezing hard at the base of his cock when he sees your arousal gleam in the sunlight every time you pull your fingers out, drunk off watching them disappear again.
“I want you all the fucking time, Steve.” You whine hips pushing up when you add a third one, back arching when he tweaks one of your nipples.
“Yeah?” He asks before spitting into his hand, the slick sounds of his palm working his length even harder blending in with the messy way your walls suck you in. “Tell me about it.”
You nod, completely gone by hearing him talk to you like this, curving your fingers just right to hit the spot that makes you keen. A strangled noise leaving his throat when he clocks the way your thighs start to shake, your mind racing with thoughts of him. He needs you to come soon, and when he sees the pad of your thumb start to rub messy circles on your puffy clit he knows he doesn’t have to hold off for very long.
“You’re just so sexy all the time,” it’s your turn to babble and the breathy laugh that leaves him makes you clamp around your fingers even tighter despite wishing you could roll your eyes, “Those fucking running shorts, your suits, god I want you to bend me over your desk so bad. I think about it all the - ohhhh- a lot.”
“Jesus - baby, m’gonna have you meet me for lunch when we get back, god wear that short little dress, yeah? I’ll give you what you want, shit - anything you want.” He stutters feeling himself start to get close, your confessions bringing him to the edge.
“I - mmm- I won’t wear any underwear.” You giggle before your mouth falls open, the band inside of you dangerously close to snapping at the thought of him behind his desk and the predatory way he’d watch the sway of your hips knowing you’re bare and already soaked for him underneath.
“Dirty girl,” He moans and you hear the back of his head slide against the tent, “my dirty girl.”
Looking up, your eyes roam the way his chest heaves the closer he gets to his climax, sweat beading and starting to drip down his neck where the veins protrude. His gaze is heavy and hot, and it doesn’t leave you, it begs you to fall apart for him. He watches how your eyes glaze over, completely wrecked at the sight of him and the corner of his mouth turns up.
“Gonna be good and come for me now?” It’s soft when he asks despite how filthy the sounds echoing in the tent are, and when you nod with your bottom lip tucked between your teeth, his grin widens. “Of course you are, always so good, so sweet.”
The last part comes out strained, his cock twitching catching the way your thighs start to shut when the drag of your fingers in your cunt becomes deliberate. You were close. The hand that he’s kept on the dough of your breast reaches down to pull your knees apart tutting under his breath.
“I wanna see it, let me have it, come on baby.”
His words are enough for you to push your head back into the pillow, your leg fighting against his firm grip to shut as the rubber band finally snaps. His name falls from lips long and drawn out, a high pitch whine that turns into a gasp and a shuddered loud moan when he pushes your hand away to replace it with his. Thick fingers collect everything you give him, pulling even more from you when he dips inside to hit the spot you could barely reach, praising you as you come even harder.
The feeling of your velvet walls squeezing tight around him brings Steve over the edge, gasping your name with a guttural groan that vibrates from his chest as he spills across his thighs and stomach. Chest heaving from the force of it, the visual of you spread out and falling apart for him makes him see white with his release.
The only sounds are your labored breathing, and a forest that’s come alive in the daylight.  You hear Bandit shuffle around to move to another spot following the moving sun as it gets higher in the sky, warming the tent more. Steve is gentle when he pulls out of you, bending down to kiss your sweaty forehead before grabbing his basketball shorts. He chuckles, wiping himself down feeling like a teenager again with nothing else around to clean himself up, your breathy giggle making his teeth shine in a wide grin before he lays himself back down.
There’s zero hesitation to pull you to his chest despite the growing stickiness with the heat, peppering kisses across your face before collecting your lips in something a little sweeter.
“Morning, tough girl.”

Under The Stars
Summary: A beautiful night in nature leads to some fun.
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x F. Reader
Warnings: Smut. 18+ ONLY. Minors DNI. Established relationship. Fingering.
See My Masterlist Here
You had been looking forward to this trip all month. Tony reserved a camping spot for all the Avengers. He said it would be good for everyone to get some fresh air. As spoiled as he is, you figured he meant you were going glamping. You imagined lavish tents with mattresses and air conditioning.
When you and the rest of the team arrived, you were surprised that Tony only had sleeping bags and regular tents for each of you. You all had to pair up, Tony and Pepper, Sam and Steve, Bruce and Natasha, Scott and Clint, Wanda and Vision, Thor and Loki, and you and your boyfriend, Bucky.
Tony gave the boys tent duty. You, Wanda, Natasha, and Pepper sat in your chairs by the lake enjoying a few drinks while watching. The tents put up a good fight against Earth’s mightiest heroes. Scott assembled his and Clint’s in just a few minutes. He explained that he used to go camping all the time as a kid. The others weren’t so lucky. Thor snapped one of the poles almost immediately. Loki stood watching in disgust, his arms folded across his chest.
Sam was trying to put it together while Steve silently read the instructions. Vision finished his right after Scott. Bruce pushed his glasses up on his nose as he read the instructions then did each step. Bucky looked around at the others trying to mimic what they were doing. Tony gave Scott ten dollars to assemble his. When everyone was finally finished, Pepper got out the picnic baskets she packed.
You all spread out on the blankets you brought. You were happy to get a break from all the hustle and bustle of New York. You and Bucky shared the small cake Pepper placed in each basket. You couldn’t wait until it got dark. The stars were what you had looked forward to the most.
It was a lot cooler at night than during the day. You were thankful you brought an extra blanket. You covered yourself and Bucky, laying on his chest as you stargazed. The team talked about the beautiful night sky. Everyone was laughing and talking amongst themselves.
“I’ve been thinking about you all day.” Bucky whispers in your ear, his hand laying on your stomach. “We’ve been together all day.” You smile back. You realize what he means when he hooks his fingers under the waistband of your panties. “We can’t do that here.” You say quietly, trying not to catch anyone’s attention.
“Guess you’ll have to be quiet then.” He smirks, moving his hand lower. You look towards the others, but they weren't paying attention to you. They were too entranced with the beautiful night sky. Bucky dips two fingers inside, curling them perfectly. You clench around them, checking again to make sure your teammates don't see you.
"They aren't payin' attention to us, babe. Relax." He swirls the rough pad of his thumb against your clit, your vision blurs around the edges. "Already?" Bucky smirks, pumping his thick digits in and out of you. You never lasted long with him. He knew your body like it was his own, and to him it was. You belonged to him in every sense of the word.
His cold, vibranium hand grips your thigh, pulling your legs apart as he works his fingers faster, his thumb swirling in tandem. You were so close just from feeling his metal hand so close to your softest parts. Bucky never touched you with it during sex. He was still afraid a small part of when he was the Winter Soldier lurked somewhere deep inside him. So there was no way he would risk hurting you when he was in his most fragile state.
He lost control when he was intimate with you. He held himself back just in case something happened. "Bucky, please touch me with it." You beg, quietly, reaching for the back of his neck. His brows furrow as realization sinks in. "I can't, angel. What if i hurt you?"
"I trust you." You whisper. That statement alone destroyed all his hesitation. His icy fingers replaced his warm digits. You shiver from the contrast. "You like when I touch you with this? My sweet baby, she thinks she could handle it rough." You whine, eyes widening when you realize you were loud.
Bucky covers your mouth with his free hand, slipping his finger in your mouth, his thumb stroking your cheek. You suck your arousal off his finger. He's never been like this with you before. He was always so gentle. You loved this new side of him. His vibranium thumb swipes your clit as he whispers against your ear. "When we get home, I'll fuck you so hard, you won't be able to walk for a week. You'd like that wouldn't you?"
You cum around his metal fingers, his hand over your mouth barely conceals your cry. He lets you ride your orgasm out, flesh hand leaving your mouth, and smoothing down your hair. "You did so good for me." He praises, placing a kiss to your forehead. "Can we make it through one outing without someone fucking? What are we lovesick teenagers?! At least wait until you're in the damn tent!" Tony yells. You and Bucky smile at each other before bursting into a fit of laughter. "Sorry!" You both shout.

I was just watching a video on s YouTube channel called World Friends about word differences between how Americans and British use the same words and OMG! This made me think of a hilarious scenario lol.
I would like to request an American gets transported to ror in Hlokk’s and Jacks waiting room, she was gonna go visit a relative a few states away or maybe go camping in her RV or something so she already has all her necessities like clothes, meds, pads, phone,iPod,iPad,movies, portable DVD player, tea, books, all the good stuff. She’s allowed to stay with Hlokk and Jack and she shares her tea collection with Jack offering some of her Twinnings Lady Grey tea. She spills something on her pant leg at some point be it food or tea I’ll let you pick, so she says she has to go wash it off, while in the bathroom she realizes it’s stained so she hollers to jack, “Hey Jack my pants are stained! I have a spare pare in my bag could you get them out and bring ‘em to me please?!”
https://youtu.be/n3lgSobnvSw
-When Jack told you that he and Glokk wanted to give camping a try, he knew that he wanted to come to you, since you were always camping and knew all the ins and outs of camping.
-Plus you had an RV that meant they didn’t have to sleep outside if they didn’t want to.
-You were a new addition to Valhalla, having been transported there by accident, RV and all, but you were welcomed warmly and found good friends in the Valkyries.
-That’s why you were surprised that Hlokk asked you to take her and Jack camping, as she was one of the more ‘indoor’ type of Valkyrie, but you welcomed them warmly and told them what to pack.
-Riding in the RV was definitely an adventure, it was like a house on wheels, and since you were a good driver, the ride was very smooth and Hlokk was able to explore, seeing all of the snacks and goods you had stocked while Jack sat next to you up front, enjoying the journey.
-Once at your camping spot you set up a large tent and started the battery powered electric pump for the inflatable mattresses, since the weather was nice and warm, perfect for camping.
-Jack enjoyed being outdoors, inhaling deeply as he was relaxing in one of your lounge chairs while you and Hlokk were gathering good to make a campfire with.
-Jack was concerned when Hlokk screeched loudly and ran back to the camp, running immediately into the RV and shutting the door.
-Your laughter was heard next as you came into the campground with the sticks you collected, “It wasn’t going to hurt you! Chipmunks are skittish with humans.” Hlokk was bright red when she peaked out, pouting that you were teasing her.
-Jack found fishing to be very…eventful, as he had slipped after walking into the river after you, wearing a spare set of waders, drenching himself, but since it was warm he wasn’t overly bothered and he caught the biggest fish of the three of you.
-Hlokk gagged when you prepped the fish for dinner, gutting them and removing the bones and scales, something Jack teased her lightly for. However, you were able to appease her afterwards when you pulled out the goodies to make s’mores.
-Jack was only able to eat one, finding it too sweet and offered to make tea, which you and Hlokk both agreed for and he went into your RV to get your electric kettle and tea bags.
-Jack prepared the tea and when he stood to hand you your mug, he slipped and dumped the hot tea onto your lap.
-You instantly squealed in pain as he panicked and you quickly headed into your RV to your bathroom to deal with it and change.
-Jack felt terrible, apologizing through the door while the two sat inside the RV on the sofa, wanting to make sure that you were alright.
-You assured them you were okay, just a little hot now, as you were able to deal with it before it burned you too badly before you called out, “Jack, in my bag is a spare pair of pants, can you grab those for me?”
-You heard no response before Hlokk was laughing loudly and you popped your head out, seeing Jack bright red, holding his cheeks, “Y/N that’s- that’s not proper! I’m a gentlemen and shouldn’t be handling a lady’s unmentionables!!”
-You were confused, “My unmentionables? What are you talking about?” you held out the dirty pants, showing him, “I just wanted my other pair of pants I packed.”
-He immediately exhaled in relief, still red but did as you asked.
-Once back outside you inquired with him why he got so flustered, “Why would pants be unmentionables?” Jack flushed again, trying not to look at you before Hlokk giggled, “I forgot! Y/N you’re from America right, well Jack is from England. Pants are what we call panties in England!”
-Your eyes went wide before you sent a sheepish grin over to Jack, immediately apologizing for putting him in a situation like that, but he was quick to brush it off, as he didn’t know that Americans called them something different.
-Your evening was spent around the fire, discussing the difference in words on either side of the pond, “Wait you call fries chips? Then what do you call chips?” as you held up a bag of potato chips, “Oh those are crisps, now going back to these sausages- is that what you called them? We call them bangers.”
-Hlokk was enjoying seeing the difference as you roasted her another marshmallow, wanting just the marshmallow this time as the three of you had fun, enjoying your mini camping trip.

Fall Down With You
Chapter 8
(previous chapter)
“Remind me again who thought this would be a good idea?” Nico asks as he ducks back into the tent, their four-year-old daughter clinging to his shoulders. The two of them are drenched, having just returned from a post-midnight trip to the outhouse, Nora having refused to pee in the woods.
Will opens his mouth to speak, but Nico shakes his head. "Never mind. Forget I asked." He kneels to help Nora with her jacket and then sheds his own, hanging them on the makeshift washing line at the front of the tent. For all the good it will do. It's been raining ever since they set up camp two days ago. At this point Will's not sure if he'll ever be properly dry again.
"Why didn't you shadow-travel to the outhouse?" Will asks, keeping his voice low in an attempt not to wake the small blond boy curled against his chest.
"Nora?" Nico raises an eyebrow at their daughter. "Would you like to tell Dad why we didn’t shadow-travel to the outhouse?"
Nora shoots Nico a dark look and then turns to Will. "It's too squishy."
Nico rolls his eyes before peeling his shirt off - that's damp too - and hanging it next to his jacket. It's warm and humid in the tent anyway. There's not much point in extra clothes. He makes a half-hearted attempt to dry his hair on an already-damp towel and then flops down onto his sleeping bag, throwing an arm over his eyes.
Will fights a smile. He tries not to mention it too often, but it's always at least a little amusing to watch the son of Hades, summoner of skeletal armies and master of death, bested by a very small and adorable child. A child who sometimes reminds Will so much of her father that it makes his chest ache.
"Papa never cares when I complain that shadow-travel is too squishy. He makes me do it anyway," Will confides to the dark-haired little girl.
Nico makes an attempt to kick his husband across the tent, but can't quite reach. "As if I could ever make you do anything, you..." he grumbles. Then, glancing at Nora, he mutters something in Italian. Forgetting once again that Nora's learned more Italian from him in her four years than Will has in twenty.
Nora's eyes go wide. "Papa said a bad word." She points at Nico dramatically.
Will snorts. The toddler tucked against him stirs and he presses his lips together. "Okay, everyone back to bed," Will says softly, pulling the little boy close.
When they arrived at the campsite, the idea was for the kids to sleep together near the back of the tent, with Will and Nico beside each other, perpendicular to the children. That arrangement had lasted maybe an hour into their first night.
Nora, much drier than Nico, at least, drapes herself over Will, her head pillowed on his stomach.
Nico looks hurt. "Hey, I thought you were sleeping with me!" he protests.
"You're too naked," Nora mumbles sleepily.
Nico sighs. "Never used to be a problem before you came along," he mutters.
Will smiles, shifting a little closer so he can reach for his husband's hand. Nico shifts too, shuffling to pull his air mattress with him. Their fingers tangle together, the pad of Nico's thumb seeking out the pulse point on Will’s wrist. The rain drums steadily on the roof of the tent. The sound should be soothing and cozy. Well. It was. For the first few hours.
"Sorry for being grouchy. This was supposed to be fun," Nico murmurs after a moment. "I thought we were making like... family memories."
"We are," Will smiles. "Just wet ones."
Nico huffs out a laugh.
"Besides, I am having fun," Will tells him.
Nico snorts. "You're in a wet tent. In a rainstorm. Under a pile of sweaty, bug-bitten kids. And that one snores." Nico tilts his head towards the smaller of the two children.
“He’s attracting moths, too,” Will sighs. The rosy-cheeked little boy snuggled up next to him is glowing softly.
Nico smiles fondly at the child. “My little night light. Tucked in next to my big night light,” he says. “At least we know it means he’s having good dreams.”
Nico knows. He’s checked.
Will rolls his eyes. “Probably about biting his sister and eating rocks.”
Nico laughs.
“Anyway,” Will murmurs, squeezing Nico’s hand, “I don’t mind the rain, or the snoring, or the moths. I have them.” He nods towards the children. “And I have you.”
Nico rolls his eyes, but can't quite hold back a smile. "So cheesy."
Will beams. "You love it."
"Maybe," Nico grins.
Will gazes at his husband for a moment in the near-dark. It still overwhelms him sometimes, how much he loves this man, how much he keeps on loving him. It worried him a little when they decided to add kids into the mix, that there would be less love between the two of them. Love spread thinner to encompass everyone in their little family. He never expected his capacity for love to just keep on growing the way it has, growing to include adoring Nico as a father. As his lover. As his partner, in this wet tent and everywhere else.
"I love you," Will whispers, because he promised himself a long time ago that he'd never miss an opportunity to say it.
"I love you too," Nico says immediately.
"I actually checked the forecast while you were at the outhouse," Will murmurs. "It's supposed to clear up overnight. You interested in going for a damp hike tomorrow?"
Nico grins. "Are you asking me out on a date?"
Will shrugs, careful not to dislodge their children. "I might be. You're pretty cute."
Nico rolls his eyes.
"And for what it's worth..." Will lets his gaze travel slowly down his husband's body. "I don't think you're nearly naked enough."
Nico shakes his head, smiling. "You dare to say something like that to me while you've got a heap of our children sleeping on top of you."
Will fights a smile. "It needed to be said." He wiggles his eyebrows in the most suggestive manner he can manage whilst lying under a heap of miniature, dozing half-demigods.
Nico eyes him carefully before shifting a bit closer. He brings Will's hand to his mouth, brushing his lips across Will's knuckles before carefully unfolding his husband's fingers and pressing his lips to Will’s palm. Will sighs.
"Maybe your mom would like to take the kids next weekend?" Nico says.
"I think that's a possibility," Will agrees.
Nico lifts himself to his hands and knees and crawls over to the rest of his family, first pressing a gentle kiss to each of the children's heads, then to his husband's mouth, lingering there, long enough for Will’s lips to part under his, long enough to draw a sleepy, satisfied hum from his husband’s throat. Nico pulls away, dropping a kiss to the tip of Will’s nose.
“If you’re trying to convince me to shadow-travel to the outhouse with you… it might be working,” Will grins.
Nico looks like he’s considering the prospect for a moment. “Eh. That sounds pretty unsanitary,” he says ruefully.
“Yeah, probably,” Will laughs softly.
Nico brushes his husband’s hair off his forehead and Will closes his eyes at the touch.
“We should get back to sleep if we’re hiking tomorrow,” he says.
“Yeah,” Will agrees. “And these two will be up at the crack of dawn regardless,” he says, nodding towards the kids.
Nico presses a kiss to Will’s forehead before dropping back onto his sleeping bag. He reaches for Will’s hand again and they drift back to sleep in the gentle glow of their small son.

Wren and Theros going camping in some old ruins for a bit of alone time because they share a home with five other people, one of whom is a lecherous werewolf, and another of whom feels personally tasked with Wren's safety.
---
I actually don't actually like camping all that much, but I like the *idea* of camping, especially camping with someone special to cuddle up to.
One of the few times I actually went camping as an adult, it was 4 grown adults huddling together for warmth because my idiot friends (affectionate) decided their SUMMER tent was perfect for May.
And two of my coworkers were like, "make sure you pack well, it gets super cold at night this time of year."
And my friends were like, "It's fiiiiine, our tent is good, we've got sleeping bags, it's fiiiiine." Dear reader, it was not fine. Despite being flanked by two men that were space heaters, we were all freezing. Because, you see, the ground gets cold and leeches heat from things on top of it, and none of us accounted for this fact, and even with padding beneath us, it wasn't enough.
We abandoned our camp at the first sign of daylight, packing everything up and making two arduous treks back to the truck with our camping gear, then promptly went back to bed when we got back to the closest friends' place, where we all fell asleep in a pile of mattresses on the floor. 😅
Maybe I'd enjoy it in ruins... but a cabin in the woods seems a much better choice.

Go hiking with me! Part 4 (the twist)
Go camping with me!
Yep, the big twist to the story is I didn't just go home. Or back to the hotel. I actually camped in the park and planned on doing 5 more miles tomorrow.
This would be my first overnight stay and a real test of what I'm capable of.
To spend the day hiking is one level.
To finish that hike, set up camp, make dinner, get to sleep, wake up, eat breakfast, pack the camp way and then hike for 5 more miles is on a totally other level.
A TOTALLY other level, for sure.
But it's neccessary information to find out before possably embarking on longer more involved multi-day hikes.
I am so glad I did.
After doing the first 6.5 miles on the trail the last 1.5 miles were kicking my butt.
Fatigue was a real factor and I had difficulty staying hydrated.
I ended up drinking (and draining) a lot more water then anticipated. Something that would come back to haunt me later.
But I made it to the Pine Point Camp site and had it all to myself.
Tumblr media
The first thing I did was assemble my chair and rest my tired legs for a while.
Eventually I found the energy to make camp and prepare my room for the night.
Since this was the first time using all this equipment it was a slow process as I had to read lots of directions.
90 minutes later about 5pm I finally was set up and ready to go.
Tumblr media
< Home for the night>
I packed a few complete meals into separate ziploch bags. Snacks. Dinner, Breakfast. Lunch.
So I broke out the dinner bag and had bean and cheese burritos with tortilla chips in the quiet of the evening in a secluded forrest.
So nice.
Being within earshot of a river or waterfall would have been better, but hey, it's only night one.
With darkness coming fast (it gets dark fast when nothing is anywhere around)
I retreated to my tent and the air sleeping pad, pillow and fluffy sleeping bag awaited me.
Which.is when things started going downhill.
Part of the "fun" of getting old is arthritis has become a real issue.
It has moved me away from golf and playing drums. Both things I once loved. Still do but am more frustrated with them then any enjoyment I used to get.
So crawling around on the tent floor and sleeping on the hard ground did not go well for me.
Combine that with having to store any excess bodily waste products in the tent (because going outside in the dark forest every couple of hours wasn't an option) made for a long sleepless night.
Plus I went through all my water supply on the first day. I just couldn't stay hydrated. Sorry to be so graphic, but it also meant filling more empty one liter bottles on the outgoing end just as quickly.
I did manage a couple of hours sleep total over a 10 hour night.
When sun finally came out I was almost out of water. I was strung out from lack of sleep and sore from laying on the ground.
So I simply packed up. Skipped breakfast (couldn't make anything without any water anyways) and called it a day.
So what did I learn?
That I need to carry more water. The problem with water is that it's heavy! My thirty pound pack would be much heavier with more water. Plus I would need a water filter system to replenish that water every single day. No convenience stores out on the trail.
Especially frustrating when I can witness the water I've had to lug around pass right through me and out a tube an hour later.
I also don't do well sleeping on the ground. The air mattress was ineffective. The airpillow useless.
I might have made it if I had a cot lifting me off the ground. But that would add more weight. Endanger the tent floor and make a cramped 2 person tent even more claustrophobic.
Saving said all that what does it mean?
There's a quote I'll paraphrase by my second favorite travel host (after Kinga of course) Samantha Brown.
"I love the great outdoors. I love seeing it, hiking it in, exploring it. I just don't like sleeping in it"
I now know what she means.
So now I'll reevaluate my plans.
How can I still see as much as I can. But work with my physical limitations?
I love bringing my back pack loaded with enough stuff for an entire day and evening out in nature.
I just need somewhere to get the needed rest and be able to handle my special physical circumstances.
I might have an idea.....

Car Camping Essentials
Car camping is all about enjoying the freedom of the open road and the beauty of nature while still having access to the comforts of home. But to make the most of your adventure, you need to pack smart. Having the right camping gear can transform your trip from a roughing-it experience to a cozy getaway. Let’s dive into the eight key items that should be on every car camper’s checklist.
1. Comfortable Sleeping Setup
A good night’s sleep is crucial when you’re out camping. Whether you’re sleeping in your car or setting up a tent, comfort is key. Here’s what you’ll need:
Sleeping bag or blankets: Choose a sleeping bag that suits the weather, or bring your favorite blankets for added comfort.
Sleeping pad or air mattress: A quality sleeping pad or air mattress can make all the difference, giving you a cushioned barrier between you and the hard ground.
Pillows: Don’t forget your pillow! Having a familiar pillow can help you sleep better and wake up refreshed.
Think of your sleeping setup as your home away from home. With the right bedding, you’ll wake up ready to take on the day’s adventures.
2. Portable Kitchen Gear
Cooking in the great outdoors is one of the highlights of camping. But without the right gear, it can quickly turn into a hassle. Here’s what you’ll need for a smooth cooking experience:
Camp stove or portable grill: A reliable camp stove or portable grill is essential for preparing hot meals.
Cookware and utensils: Pack a set of lightweight pots, pans, and utensils. Don’t forget a can opener, spatula, and a good knife.
Cooler: A quality cooler is crucial for keeping your food fresh and your drinks cold. Look for one with good insulation that can last the duration of your trip.
Having a well-equipped portable kitchen allows you to enjoy delicious meals under the stars, making your camping experience even more enjoyable.
3. Reliable Lighting Solutions
When the sun goes down, you’ll need reliable lighting to keep your campsite functional and safe. Here are the essentials:
Lanterns: Battery-powered or rechargeable lanterns are perfect for lighting up your campsite.
Flashlights and headlamps: These are must-haves for navigating in the dark, whether you’re walking to the restroom or checking on something outside.
String lights: Adding string lights around your campsite or inside your tent can create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Good lighting not only makes your campsite more comfortable but also enhances safety during nighttime activities.
4. Comfortable Seating
After a day of exploring, you’ll want a comfortable place to relax. Portable seating is a must for car camping:
Camping chairs: Look for chairs that are lightweight, foldable, and easy to carry. A chair with a cup holder and a padded seat can make a big difference in comfort.
Portable table: A small, foldable table is great for meals, games, or just holding your gear off the ground.
Comfortable seating allows you to sit back, relax, and fully enjoy your surroundings, whether you’re eating, reading, or just gazing at the stars.
5. Efficient Storage Solutions
Keeping your gear organized is key to a smooth camping experience. Efficient storage solutions help you quickly find what you need without turning your car into a cluttered mess:
Storage bins or boxes: Use clear bins to organize your gear so you can easily see what’s inside.
Rooftop cargo carrier: If you’re short on space inside your car, a rooftop cargo carrier can provide extra storage for larger items.
Hanging organizers: These can be hung inside your tent or from your car doors to keep small items like toiletries, flashlights, and snacks within easy reach.
By keeping your gear organized, you’ll spend less time searching for things and more time enjoying your trip.
6. Personal Care and Hygiene Items
Staying clean and comfortable is essential, even when you’re roughing it. Here’s what you should bring:
Toiletries: Don’t forget the basics—soap, shampoo, toothbrush, and toothpaste. A travel-sized hygiene kit is a great option for camping.
Towels: Quick-dry towels are ideal for camping since they take up less space and dry quickly.
Hand sanitizer and wet wipes: These are lifesavers when you don’t have easy access to running water.
Taking care of your personal hygiene helps you stay fresh and comfortable throughout your camping adventure.
7. Safety and First Aid Supplies
Safety should always be a priority when camping. Being prepared for minor injuries or emergencies is crucial:
First aid kit: A basic first aid kit with band-aids, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, and tweezers is essential.
Emergency kit: Include items like a multi-tool, emergency blanket, whistle, and matches.
Maps and compass: Even if you have GPS, having a physical map and compass as a backup can be a lifesaver.
A well-stocked first aid and safety kit gives you peace of mind, knowing you’re prepared for the unexpected.
8. Entertainment for Downtime
While the outdoors offers plenty of natural entertainment, having some extra activities can enhance your camping experience:
Books or magazines: Perfect for quiet moments or relaxing in your camp chair.
Board games or cards: A great way to spend time with family or friends during downtime.
Outdoor games: Bring along a frisbee, soccer ball, or cornhole set for some fun in the sun.
Bringing entertainment options ensures that everyone stays engaged and has fun, even when you’re just relaxing around the campsite.
Bonus: Packing Tips for Car Camping
To make your car camping trip as smooth as possible, here are a few extra tips:
Plan ahead: Make a checklist of everything you need and pack in stages.
Pack smart: Use space-saving techniques, like rolling your clothes or using vacuum-sealed bags.
Label your gear: Labeling your storage bins or bags helps you quickly find what you need.
Conclusion: Ready for Your Car Camping Adventure?
Car camping is all about enjoying the freedom and adventure of the outdoors while still having the comforts of home. With the right camping gear and a well-prepared checklist, you can ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trip. So, pack your essentials, hit the road, and get ready for a car camping adventure you’ll never forget

Know What to Pack for the Indrahar Pass Trek: A Comprehensive Checklist
The Indrahar Pass Trek is one of the most thrilling and challenging treks in the Indian Himalayas, offering adventurers a mix of lush green valleys, dense forests, sparkling streams, and breathtaking views of the Dhauladhar range. If you're planning to embark on this adventure, knowing what to pack is crucial to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. This comprehensive packing checklist will guide you through the essentials, ensuring you're well-prepared for everything the trek has in store.
Tumblr media
Understanding the Indrahar Pass Trek
Before we dive into the packing checklist, let's briefly touch on what makes the Indrahar Pass Trek so special. Located at an altitude of 4,342 meters, Indrahar Pass connects the Kangra and Chamba districts in Himachal Pradesh. The trek begins in McLeod Ganj, the famous hill station known for its Tibetan culture and the residence of the Dalai Lama. From there, the trail leads you through the dense forests of the Dhauladhar range, past beautiful meadows, and up to the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas.
The best time to visit Indrahar Pass Trek is between May and October when the weather is relatively stable, and the snow has melted enough to make the pass accessible. With this timing in mind, let's break down the essential items you'll need to pack for the trek.
Clothing Essentials
Layered Clothing
The weather in the mountains can be unpredictable. Even during the summer months, temperatures can drop significantly as you ascend higher. Layered clothing allows you to adjust your attire according to the temperature.
Base Layer: Moisture-wicking thermal wear to keep you dry and warm.
Mid Layer: Fleece jackets or lightweight sweaters for insulation.
Outer Layer: A windproof and waterproof jacket to protect against wind, rain, or snow.
Trekking Pants
Invest in a pair of durable, quick-drying trekking pants. Convertible pants, which can be zipped off into shorts, are also a good option for variable temperatures.
Insulating Jacket
A down or synthetic insulating jacket is essential for the cold nights at higher altitudes. It should be lightweight but warm enough to withstand temperatures below freezing.
Rain Gear
A poncho or rain jacket and rain pants are necessary to keep you dry during sudden downpours. Ensure they are lightweight and can be packed easily.
Thermal Gloves and Socks
As you reach higher altitudes, the cold can be biting. Pack thermal gloves and a few pairs of thermal socks to keep your hands and feet warm.
Sun Protection Clothing
A wide-brimmed hat or cap, sunglasses with UV protection, and a lightweight scarf or neck gaiter can protect you from the harsh sun at high altitudes.
Footwear Essentials
Trekking Boots
Your trekking boots are perhaps the most critical piece of gear. Invest in a sturdy, waterproof pair with good ankle support and a strong grip. Break them in before the trek to avoid blisters.
Camp Shoes
A lightweight pair of sandals or slippers is ideal for relaxing your feet at the campsite after a long day of trekking.
Gaiters
Gaiters are essential if you're trekking through snow or muddy terrain. They prevent debris from entering your boots and keep your feet dry.
Backpack Essentials
Trekking Backpack
A 40-50 liter backpack should be sufficient for a 4-5 day trek like Indrahar Pass. Ensure it has a good frame, padded straps, and a hip belt for even weight distribution.
Daypack
A small daypack is useful for carrying essentials like water, snacks, and a camera during shorter hikes from your base camp.
Rain Cover
Don’t forget to pack a rain cover for your backpack to protect your belongings from getting wet during unexpected showers.
Camping Gear
Sleeping Bag
Choose a sleeping bag that is rated for temperatures at least 5-10 degrees lower than the expected nighttime temperatures. A mummy-style sleeping bag with a hood is ideal for retaining heat.
Sleeping Mat
A good-quality sleeping mat or inflatable mattress will provide insulation from the cold ground and ensure a comfortable night’s sleep.
Tent
If you're not using a trekking agency that provides tents, you'll need a lightweight, waterproof tent. Ensure it's easy to set up and has enough space for you and your gear.
Food and Hydration
Water Bottles or Hydration Bladder
Staying hydrated is crucial at high altitudes. Carry at least two liters of water. A hydration bladder with a drinking tube allows you to sip water without having to stop.
Water Purification Tablets
Safe drinking water may not always be available, so pack water purification tablets or a portable water filter to treat water from natural sources.
Energy Snacks
Pack high-energy snacks like nuts, energy bars, dried fruit, and chocolate. These will provide quick energy boosts during the trek.
Lightweight Cooking Equipment
If you're cooking your meals, a portable stove, lightweight cookware, and utensils are necessary. Don’t forget to pack enough fuel for the duration of the trek.
Navigation and Communication
Map and Compass/GPS
Even if you're trekking with a guide, it's always wise to carry a map of the area and a compass or GPS device to navigate through the mountains.
Mobile Phone and Power Bank
Though signal coverage may be limited, carrying a fully charged mobile phone is essential for emergencies. A power bank with multiple charges is a must to keep your devices powered.
Emergency Whistle
An emergency whistle is a simple but effective tool for alerting others if you get lost or are in distress.
First Aid and Hygiene
First Aid Kit
Your first aid kit should include adhesive bandages, antiseptic wipes, blister pads, pain relievers, and any personal medications you may need. It’s also wise to pack a basic emergency medical guide.
Sunscreen and Lip Balm
The high altitude means stronger UV rays, which can cause sunburn quickly. Use a high SPF sunscreen and UV-protective lip balm to protect your skin.
Hand Sanitizer and Wet Wipes
Maintaining hygiene on the trail is vital, especially when water is scarce. Hand sanitizer and wet wipes are useful for cleaning your hands and face.
Toilet Paper and Trowel
Toilet facilities are limited or non-existent on the trail, so pack biodegradable toilet paper and a small trowel for digging a cat hole if needed.
Miscellaneous Essentials
Trekking Poles
Trekking poles reduce strain on your knees, provide balance, and help you maintain a steady pace on steep or uneven terrain. Adjustable poles are best for versatility.
Multi-Tool or Swiss Army Knife
A multi-tool can be useful for various tasks, from cutting rope to repairing gear. Choose one with essential tools like a knife, scissors, and screwdriver.
Headlamp or Flashlight
A headlamp is more convenient than a handheld flashlight, leaving your hands free for tasks. Don’t forget extra batteries or a backup light source.
Camera or Smartphone for Photos
The views on the Indrahar Pass Trek are simply stunning. Bring a camera or smartphone to capture the moments, but ensure it’s packed securely to avoid damage from the elements.
Notebook and Pen
A small notebook and pen are handy for jotting down notes, keeping a journal of your adventure, or even leaving messages for fellow trekkers.
Spare Plastic Bags
Carry a few extra plastic bags to store wet clothes, pack out trash, or keep items dry. Ziplock bags are particularly useful for organizing smaller items.
Final Preparations
Personal Identification and Permits
Don’t forget to pack your identification, trekking permits, and any necessary documents. Keep them in a waterproof pouch for safekeeping.
Cash
While some places along the trek might accept digital payments, it’s safer to carry enough cash for emergencies, tips, and small purchases in the remote areas where ATMs are non-existent.
Insurance
Ensure you have travel insurance that covers trekking at high altitudes. Carry a copy of your insurance policy with emergency contact numbers.
Packing Tips
Pack Light: Focus on packing only the essentials to keep your backpack light. A heavy load can make the trek more challenging and reduce your enjoyment.
Distribute Weight Evenly: Place heavier items in the center of your backpack, close to your back, for better balance and comfort.
Use Compression Sacks: Compressible items like clothing and sleeping bags can be packed into compression sacks to save space.
Conclusion
Preparing for the Indrahar Pass Trek is as much about packing smartly as it is about physical conditioning. By following this comprehensive checklist, you’ll ensure that you’re well-equipped to handle the various challenges the trek might throw your way. Remember, the best time to visit Indrahar Pass Trek is between May and October, so plan accordingly and enjoy the majestic beauty of the Himalayas with confidence, knowing you’ve packed everything you need for a safe and successful adventure.

August 3
The following is a series of random thoughts. If you're looking for something more serious and (possibly) meaningful, skip today and we'll be back to normal next time. But if you're still amused (bemused) at the possibilities, here we go:
Tumblr media
The presence of Shohei Ohtani is everywhere, even on vending machines. This particular green tea is one of my favorites, I wonder if the "Shohei" effect means I'll be soon paying more.
Tumblr media
We enjoyed dinner after a visit to the local hot springs, served by this robot. It also said "thanks for your patience." I wanted to take more pics, but Peter said "stop being a tourist."
Tumblr media
On the way back from Suzu City (Noto Peninsula, where we've been serving), we stopped by the airport just to stretch our legs. These are life-size cutouts of these well known sumo wrestlers. I was thinking of taking a photo with these figures, yet I decided not to again incur the wrath of my offspring.
Tumblr media
Is Marvel in need of a new superhero?
Tumblr media
We're staying at a church which has been generous and accommodating. Nonetheless, having pulled a back muscle just a few weeks prior, I found it very hard to sleep more than a few hours with just my sleeping bag on the floor. When I asked for a pad to sleep upon, they instead shared with me an air mattress! I actually was able to sleep more than five hours! I also realized my days of Boy Scout camping is waaaay in the past.
Tumblr media
Save for a visit with family in nearby Fukui (it was quality time, details later) who treated us to gourmet seafood, we've mostly been getting our meals at supermarkets and convenience stores. If you've heard stories about the "konbini," like the ubiquitous Family Mart and 7-Eleven, we can verify the tales are true! No complaints about our dining, it's been both decent quality and decent prices. Plus with the hot weather, I've consumed more ice cream than normal. I'm not complaining!
Tumblr media
It's been a few years, but the residents of Fukui prefecture are still amused that one of their cities and a former president share the same name. I don't know of a Japanese city that even remotely sounds like "Trump" or "Biden."
Yes we're here to fulfill a serious purpose, but it doesn't mean there aren't amusing tales. Back to the normal blog next time. Have a great weekend!

Air Mattress Essentials: Comfort, Convenience, and Care Tips

To ensure you get the most out of your air mattress, it's essential to focus on comfort, convenience, and proper care. This guide will walk you through the essentials, helping you make the most of your air mattress experience.
1. Prioritizing Comfort
Comfort is paramount when it comes to air mattresses. Here are some tips to enhance your sleeping experience:
Choose the Right Size: Select an air mattress that suits your needs. A twin size is ideal for single sleepers, while a queen or king size is better for couples or those who prefer more space.
Opt for a Flocked Top: Many air mattresses come with a flocked or suede-like top, which provides a soft surface and helps keep bedding in place.
Consider Height and Thickness: Double-height air mattresses, which range from 18 to 22 inches, offer more comfort and are easier to get in and out of than single-height options.
Add a Mattress Topper: A foam or memory foam mattress topper can add an extra layer of cushioning and support, enhancing overall comfort.
Adjust Firmness: Some air mattresses come with adjustable firmness settings, allowing you to customize the level of support to your liking.
2. Maximizing Convenience
Convenience is a significant factor that sets air mattresses apart from traditional beds. Here are some tips to make your air mattress experience more convenient:
Built-In Pumps: Look for air mattresses with built-in electric pumps for quick and easy inflation and deflation. Manual pumps are also available for situations without electricity.
Portability: Choose a lightweight and compact air mattress if you plan to use it for camping or travel. Many models come with a carrying bag for easy transport and storage.
Quick Setup: Practice setting up and taking down your air mattress before you need it. Familiarizing yourself with the process will save time and effort when it matters most.
Storage Solutions: When not in use, store your air mattress in a cool, dry place to prevent damage. Ensure it's fully deflated and rolled up neatly to avoid creases or punctures.
3. Proper Care and Maintenance
To extend the lifespan of your air mattress and maintain its performance, follow these care and maintenance tips:
Regular Inspections: Check your air mattress for leaks or punctures regularly. Inflate it fully and listen for hissing sounds, or apply soapy water to suspected areas and look for bubbles.
Patch Kits: Keep a patch kit handy for quick repairs. Most air mattresses come with one, but you can also purchase them separately.
Avoid Over-Inflation: Over-inflating your air mattress can put stress on the seams and increase the risk of leaks. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for proper inflation.
Protect from Sharp Objects: Keep your air mattress away from sharp objects or rough surfaces that could cause punctures. Use a ground cloth when camping to protect the bottom of the mattress.
Clean Regularly: Wipe down your air mattress with a damp cloth and mild soap to remove dirt and grime. Ensure it's completely dry before storing it to prevent mold and mildew.
4. Enhancing Your Air Mattress Experience
Here are some additional tips to enhance your overall air mattress experience:
Use Quality Bedding: Invest in high-quality sheets, pillows, and blankets to improve comfort. Fitted sheets specifically designed for air mattresses can help keep everything in place.
Temperature Regulation: Air mattresses can be susceptible to temperature changes. In colder weather, use an insulated sleeping pad or blanket underneath the mattress to stay warm.
Noise Reduction: Air mattresses can be noisy when moving around. Placing a thick rug or carpet underneath can help reduce noise and provide extra insulation.
Conclusion
By focusing on comfort, convenience, and proper care, you can ensure your air mattress provides a great night's sleep for any occasion. Whether you're hosting guests, embarking on a camping adventure, or need a temporary bed, these tips will help you make the most of your air mattress.
Remember, a well-maintained air mattress can offer the same level of comfort and support as a traditional bed, making it a valuable addition to your home or travel gear. Happy sleeping!
