The burn is what draws her from thought, scalded palm quickly retreating away from the tea spilling over the top of his mug. “   Oh, shoot!   ” Ceramic clatters together over the tabletop, hands quickly discarding the excess tea into her own mug.  She sighs, gently blowing air over the newly raw and warm skin over her digits. That’ll probably leave a scar; another relic to remind her of her growing distraction lately. Fingers curl over the handles of each mug as she exits the kitchen and makes home on the chair across from his own. “  Sorry! Made a little mess in there. But ta-da! Specially brewed cup, as promised!  Go on, you can tell me how good I am at making it perfect now.  ” Settling his cup before him, she smiles; arms crossed over the table. These nightly meets were becoming a commonplace occurrence, comforting, but over time it has felt a necessity. 

She offers a confused smile when his attention falters to ruddy skin blossoming over her hands. Instinctively she pries it away from view, “   Just a little clumsy, y’know how I am..   ” Dejavu. She’s repeated the same phrase for the umpteenth time this week. But weighing it against the words buried deep in her heart, clumsy felt an easier buffer. It wasn’t very polite to speak of ceaseless nightmares, or the fervent need to remain a useful asset. After all, what was her purpose outside of his army. Lifting her mug to her lips, she takes a careful sip; eyes flickering around the candlelit room. When he speaks, her attention slips back to his own. Rigid, she stares, a sputtering sound leaving her lips before it melts into sheepish laughter.

“   Nothing ever evades your eye, huh.   ” With a slow exhale, she leans back in her seat, gently resting her tea back on the table. “   It’s not that I don’t trust you. I trust you with my life.  ” She watches the fire flicker along the walls before closing her eyes. “   I’m just worried I can’t truly do the same for you. I mean … I couldn’t protect my brother from himself … what if I can’t really protect anyone? What if I can’t protect you?  ”

oh, abi was going to owe her big time for this one. or at least, she would have, if she hadn't reminded kaitlyn of a sopping wet baby kitten. unfortunately though, kaitlyn didn't have the heart to hold much of anything over her head, and so she was walking with abi through the buggy, middle of nowhere special brand of pitch black darkness for absolutely free. she'd better at least be getting some good karma for this or something.

"i'm sure it's nothing, abs. i mean, if there was something in the lodge, mr. hackett would already be on top of it, wouldn't he?" she tried to reassure her, keeping her voice hushed to keep from waking any of the kids until they were far away enough from the cabins. whatever abi had heard must have really been weird if she was still tossing and turning over it this late in the night; they had been here for almost a month now and kaitlyn had never heard her complain about any of the spooky forest sounds before. something about tonight just felt... weird.

"we all did a headcount of our cabins before bed, right? so if someone is hurt in there, it's not one of the kids. maybe an animal got in or something, and now the poor thing is just stuck and panicking. i bet it's something like that, and all we'll have to do is let it out. piece of cake, right?"

Ooooh I think it depends on the mood--

if we've had a mission/adventure where there's pent up stress and energy, it can go pretty fast; Wolfwood's jacket is the first to go (if it's not already off) and fumbling with the buttons on his shirt as we feverishly kiss.
