DO NOT TAKE THE CANADIAN ELECTION FOR GRANTED.
Yes, polling generally shows the Liberals in the lead. This is is good news. However, do not assume that the Liberals have it in the bag.
Polls have narrowed, with some polling showing the Liberal lead as little as 3%.
Many voters make their decision on Election Day.
GenZ is often under-polled, and shifting Right.
And that big turnout at advance polls, starting on the 18th? Some polling actually shows the Conservatives briefly taking the lead on the 18th, the day after the debates. Polling also shows voters' focus shifting from Canadian sovereignty to other issues- the need for a unified response to the US threat being the main impetus behind the Liberals' rise in the polls.
Most of the Liberals' decline in the polls, I will note, is NOT actually voters going back to the Conservatives- its voters going back to other parties. Likely, in part, because many of them think that the Liberals are going to win regardless, so they don't need to worry about voting strategically.
It is ABSOLUTELY still possible that Poilievre could be the next Prime Minister. And just in case anyone has forgotten, or didn't know, here's just some of what he has promised to do:
-Defund the CBC, Canada's public news broadcaster.
-Defund universities, just like Tr*mp.
-Massive cuts to government services... just like Tr*mp.
-Still run up a deficit, because of all the tax cuts that will benefit the rich (who can afford to do without government services).
-Allow police to arrest people for being homeless.
-Become the first Prime Minister in Canadian history to invoke the Notwithstanding Clause to override the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
And here's some of what he HAS done already:
-Refused to decline an endorsement from Elon Musk, saying Musk should come and build factories in Canada.
-Suggested that US threats to Canadian sovereignty should not be a Federal election issue, because there's nothing we can do about them.
-Marched with anti-vaccine "convoyers" who shut down the country for weeks.
And here are some of the people who have endorsed him:
-Elon Musk. This piece of shit, I trust, needs no introduction.
-Alex Jones- the MAGA conspiracy theorist with the billion dollar judgement against him for defamation for claiming the parents of school shooting victims engineered a hoax.
-Tucker Carlson- the MAGA pundit Prime Minister Trudeau testified under oath is a paid agent of the Russian government, and who has publicly called for a US military invasion of Canada.
THIS MAN COULD BE THE NEXT PRIME MINISTER.
Do not assume that it is safe to sit it out, or vote for a different party, because the Liberals are going to win. It is entirely possible that on the morning of the 29th, Canadians could wake up to the same hell the US has been in since November 5th.

How AI is Changing India's Lok Sabha Elections: A New Era of Voting
In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has started to play an important role in many areas, including politics. In India, AI is changing how people vote in the Lok Sabha elections. This change is making voting easier and helping political parties connect with voters.
What is AI in Elections?
AI means using computer systems to do tasks that usually need human intelligence, like understanding language and making decisions. In elections, AI helps analyze large amounts of data quickly, which helps political parties understand what voters want.
How AI is Changing Voting
Reaching Voters: Political parties use AI to connect with voters better. By looking at social media and online behavior, they can find out who to target with their messages. This allows them to send personalized information that is more likely to interest different groups.
Predicting Results: AI can guess the results of elections by analyzing data from past elections and current trends. This helps parties plan their strategies better, focusing on places where they are likely to win.
Engaging Voters: AI-powered chatbots and virtual helpers are used to answer voters’ questions about how to vote. These tools provide quick information, making it easier for people to understand the voting process.
Improving Security: AI can help make elections safer. By watching social media for fake news, AI can alert authorities to problems that might disrupt voting.
Challenges to Consider
While AI has many benefits, it also has challenges. There are worries about privacy, as AI collects personal data. There is also a risk of spreading false information quickly online. It is important for the government and organizations to create rules to ensure AI is used safely during elections.
Conclusion
The rise of AI in Lok Sabha elections is changing how people vote in India. By improving how parties reach out to voters, engage them, and secure elections, AI can make the voting process better. However, it is crucial to address the challenges that come with this technology. As India embraces these changes, it can lead to a more informed and engaged group of voters, shaping the future of democracy in the country.

if you're eligible to vote in the Canadian election and you haven't done so yet, please do so this April 28th - you can register at the same time you go in to vote and everything. the elections.ca website has all the information on what ID you'll need and where you go to vote depending on your riding.
a conservative government would almost certainly undo a lot of the progress we've made over the last decade (you can watch the video above for an explanation of just how bad their platform is) and I quite honestly doubt they'd be any good at standing up to the US with how much they've copied from American right-wing politics.
#we speak#cdnpoli#canada#canadian election#canadian politics#i'm not gonna tell u to vote liberal or ndp or whatever bc that's up to u#and if u feel there's a chance of vote splitting being an issue in ur riding#either way it's up to u to research that and decide who to vote for#my stance is basically just 'NO CONSERVATIVES THANK YOU'#if u think u might need to vote strategically there are sites for that like smartvoting#but generally if a left-leaning party is strongly projected to win in ur riding to the point that vote splitting isn't an issue#u probably don't need to worry about a strategic vote#if u think vote splitting might be an issue or just don't want to take the chance#then u may want to vote for whichever left-leaning party is most likely to be able to beat the conservatives#in your riding specifically#ofc if u rlly don't wanna do strategic voting i do not blame u and i would not judge u for avoiding it#i chose to vote liberal in my riding for the first time just bc i'm so anxious about the cons winning#but any other election i think i would have voted ndp and ofc the ndp is still pushing for election reform#but they're doing so badly in the polls i did not want to risk splitting the vote#Youtube

Right. So every election I go into it with a worst-case but possible result. This year that's a Conservative majority.
Why do I think that's possible:
I'm not seeing a surge in optimism about Mark Carney
once a party has been in power for a while people like to switch them out
we're seeing an increasingly organised far-right that's motivated to show up at the polls
I've been listening to swing and strategic voters talk about not knowing who to vote for; undecided voters don't show up at the polls
If you do not want a Conservative majority please vote on April 28th.

To my fellow left leaning Canadians:
Even if the polls are looking favourable and the Maple Maga are starting to panic according to Kory Teneycke who went on Curse of Politics Podcast (as someone who rents a room from people who are Conservative I can attest to that), don't get too comfy. Yes, we're past the halfway point. The election isn’t over until the votes have been cast and counted. And the tides can change, especially with the debates being a week away. We cannot afford let that to happen.
Here in Canada there's a law called "Notwithstanding Clause". In simple terms, it allows the government to make a law that might go against certain rights in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms for 5 years. Conservative premiers have used this in the past to pass laws that attack trans people. (Scott Moe from the Sask Party comes to mind.) Pepe Le Pew vowed to use it if he became PM. He shares a lot of similarities with MAGA Republicans like Ted Cruz. If he wins, I have zero doubts that he will use it to not only create laws that attack trans rights, but restrict abortion access, and privatize our healthcare system more.
Yes, a lot of these things are provincial matters like health care. Also, yes, conservative politicians are more motivated by power than ideology, so if he's elected, he might hold back on his worst policies and just throw a bone to his base once in awhile to stay in power like Harper did during his time as PM from what I heard. (I was a kid during at least half that time, so I can't attest to that personally.) Pepe Le Pew egging on the provinces to enact these policies is still very possible, especially in places with conservative premiers like Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Provinces with non-conservative leaders aren't safe either. Pepe Le Pew has stated that if he becomes MP, he will over step provincial boundaries and defund safe supply programs. (x) While I don't think he will succeed since that will be unconstitutional, he will definitely try if he gets in. If he wants to over step boundaries like that, no one is safe.
Plus, Pepe Le Pew has connections with Jordan Peterson, Elon Musk and JD Vance. If he becomes PM, he is gonna kiss the Angry Orange's ring, not stand up to him!
The only way to prevent that is to go out and vote for the best option in your riding, whether that is Liberal, NDP, or Green. Anything but conservative, without splitting our vote. Talk to your family and friends about voting progressive as well.
I'm not exaggerating that this is the most high stakes election that I've ever been a part of. I've been able to vote since 2015! People's lives are on the line here.

Please check where your vote matters! By voting to prevent a Conservative seat, you can prevent a Conservative Majority.
Voting Liberal seems like the quickest way to get a Liberal Prime Minister, but depending on where you live, voting NDP or Green could prevent a Conservative from taking the seat. In my riding, voting Liberal would do almost nothing. However, if I vote NDP it is neck and neck with the Cons and I could be that vote that tips it.
I know most people don't care about anything unless it has to do with the U.S. but can we please start talking about the Canadian election.
Please don't vote for Poilievre. He's basically the Canadian Trump and plans to put in place laws that harm trans youth, and lots of other shit.
Please vote istg this is the only way anything will get better. Poilievre has been kissing millionaires and billionaires asses. He'll make life even harder, and he loves Trump.
Reblogs are appreciated, especially if you aren't Canadian.

The Future of Democracy: AI's Role in Lok Sabha Elections
"The Future of Democracy: AI's Role in Lok Sabha Elections" looks at how artificial intelligence is changing the way we approach elections in India, particularly the Lok Sabha elections. This title suggests that AI is not just a tech tool but something that can reshape our democratic process.
The phrase "future of democracy" highlights how technology and democracy are connected. It implies that as AI continues to grow, it can help make elections better by providing useful insights, improving how political parties connect with voters, and increasing transparency in the voting process.
By focusing on AI's role, the title invites readers to think about how it can be used, such as analyzing voter data, running targeted campaigns, and understanding public opinion through social media. These uses can help political parties send the right messages and engage voters more effectively.
Overall, this title sparks a conversation about the challenges of using AI in politics, raising questions about privacy, misinformation, and the fairness of the electoral process. It shows AI as a powerful tool for creating a more responsive and inclusive democracy.

Survey finds majority of Swiss candidates against automatic facial recognition
A majority of the candidates in the federal elections in October reject automatic facial recognition in public spaces. Only the Swiss People’s Party candidates narrowly approve. This is the result of a survey. Around 80% of the candidates for the House of Representatives and the Senate were in favour of a ban on facial recognition in public spaces in the Smartvote survey, as the "Protect fundamental rights - stop facial recognition" alliance of non-governmental organisations announced on Wednesday. Among the candidates for the House of Representatives, 77.9% said yes or rather yes to a ban, and 83.9% for the Council of States. 52.7% of the House of Representatives and 55.2% of the Senate were clearly in favour of a ban. +Swiss petition takes aim at face recognition 77.4% of the parliamentarians running for re-election were in favour of the ban, and 75.8% in the Senate. The support ranged from 90% for The Greens to over 60% each for the Radical-Liberal Party and The Centre.
