The Smolensk Voivodeship (1619-1654) is where the history of the Intermarium converges. One of the most important documents for describing this territory is the Book of Zaręba, which contains over 300 documents with a detailed description of the boundaries of individual estates of the local nobility, townspeople, boyars… After publishing the Book, the next step will be to develop a detailed map of the entire voivodeship.
The book currently has approximately 340 pages (2,500 characters per page), and will also include an index (in the editor's office) and a set of a dozen or so maps
An interesting excerpt from Paul Britten Austin, alleging that Murat was trying to get himself killed at the battle of Smolensk. The “previous evening’s conversation” Britten refers to was an argument between Murat and Napoleon over the Emperors’s intention to push on towards Moscow, which Murat supposedly begged Napoleon not to do (Ségur, prone to dramatize, claims Murat had gotten down on his knees before Napoleon—who knows if he really did or not). What makes this even more interesting is, if I’m remembering correctly, Napoleon blamed Murat on St Helena for urging him on towards Moscow.
