WHENEVER I SEE THAT POST ABOUT APPRECIATING HAVING FRIENDS YOU GENUINELY LOVE, I GET REALLY HAPPY BECAUSE IT'S REALLY AWESOME HAVING FRIENDS YOU LOVE.

So I got a message asking me to talk to an old student I had in a middle school art class. I laid out things I wish someone had told me when I was 15 or 16, thought I would share.

So I got an email yesterday from my mom. Your mother says that high school is kinda kicking you and your art in the ass right now. . She asked if I could maybe talk to you about it. 

I will be honest. You were always one of my favourite students. You showed creativity and passion that I do not see often and a remarkable level of talent for one so young. But I get it. Life is really hard and art is even harder when you are trapped in a school that you don't like with teachers who either hate you or just don't care. There is a secret to living with bad teachers and people who tell you that you suck. 

They are wrong. Plain and simple. Listening to bitter high school teachers who never had the courage to go and pursue their actual desires and dreams is not a good idea. Other people can be negative when confronted with people who do not follow the same plan and path they did. It is shitty, but it is also very human.  When people look at you and tell you that it is impractical look them in the eye and tell them that the key to artistic success is not talent. It is drive. There are plenty of people with talent who have no drive to be the best and that is why the fail. Conviction will save you from a lot of peoples naysaying. 

You are very talented. If you are willing to work at what you love you can do it for the rest of your life if you want to. You just have to look at the people who say you can't and tell them they are wrong and have no power to control your life choices. I know you can feel really helpless and miserable. Like you are never going to get what you want in life. But you will. You can. YOU decide how your life will be run and only YOU. No one else can make your choices. Not your friends, your teachers, your parents, your boyfriend(or girlfriend). Just you. 

If you have read this far, please do not be offended or angry with your parents or me.Your mother was asked purely out of concern for you and a wish to see you happy. I am more than willing to talk to you a guide you through school problems.. You are not the only person who has felt stifled and miserable during high school. It is a hard time for everyone, but there are people who want to see you succeed who will help you and I am one of them if you want my help. 

Now that I have talked for so long I am gonna pull the teacher card and give you a bit of an assignment. If you do nothing else I have suggested here, go watch a movie called You Can't Take It With You by Frank Capra. Also Harvey. The language is a bit funny and it is an old black and white movie, but it is one of the most useful things for when you are feeling upset, depressed, hopeless, or uninspired. Also,watch this video about bullying (warning, this will make you cry but in a good way)and how it can affect you and this video from Neil Gaiman about making art.Especially the Neil Gaiman speech.

The Ness "Problem."

So, I took the plunge and joined the dark side...reading comments on articles re:Nick/Jess, and read one that states how they're not dealing with any of the issues that arise, and just gloss over them and kiss.

Has this person been watching the show?! All in, was about overcoming the fear of going back to reality, how they would really work when back at the loft, and Jess' speech - "it's gonna be really hard...but so what? I believe in us," is the conclusion they come to –– they're going to try anyway, and it was set up for the rest of the season/their dynamic as a couple. It's going to be hard, but worth it. Nerd, was about his constant need to fix everything for her, as he has always done -- (singing in pilot, Christmas lights, landlord, water massage, etc), and at the end the, "I would have noticed you," was basically tying it back to the start, where he lets her know she was perfect as is, nothing was wrong with her, and he didn't need to step in, doesn't always have to fix everything for her. Double date, was where their loyalties to their best friends could have potentially put them at odds, like he said it was a bad situation, but "they're strong," and he concluded, there's nothing more he was sure of, than wanting to be with her. He loves his best friend, but wasn't going to let it interfere with them. The Captain, was obviously focused on Nick's lack of communication skills, and his inability to talk about his feelings –– a character trait that has been set up since the pilot. ("Honestly? I didn't know you cared about me until we broke up.") And at the end? He overcomes it, (hilariously) and starts to finally open up. For her. The Box, was about Jess' constant need to push him, motivate him, which is again, something we have ALWAYS seen ("Nick Miller, Nick Miller...never does anything")...and they didn't let it "drop," –– her ranting and going off on the 8 dollar processing fee, was a subtle way of her doing what he said, and "for once seeing things his way," and him opening the bank account in the first place, was him doing what he's always done –– anything she's asked of him. So, have they fixed every possible road-bump? No. But they have touched on a lot of issues, that they even had just as friends, and now we've seen how they're trying to work through them now that they're dating.
