"How not to open a chest" -- one more humorous look at life in the dungeon by Will McLean, from Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord for the Apple II (Sir-Tech Software, 1981). Inspired by D&D, Wizardry gave the player the option to search chests for traps, then disarm a trap by hand or by a magic spell. As in D&D it was advised to have a thief in the party for this sort of work.

Will Mclean is best known for his comic art in the 1979 AD&D Dungeon Masters Guide (the +2 backscratcher, the fighter afraid of the rust monster, the Papers & Paychecks RPG, etc), and in Dragon magazine. He also contributed to other game companies' rulebooks, at least one medieval history, and to SCA publications under his persona name Galleron.

so mercury retrograde is a pet peeve of mine. i grew up in new age circles and now work in a related industry, and so for most of my life people have been blaming “mercury retrograde” every day of the year for normal technology problems like not knowing how to use a computer. cut to this month when i’ve had a dozen bizarre and unprecedented technical failures seriously impeding my ability to do my job, and a coworker said “mercury retrograde!” and ooooh i hate it. i hate it. because she was RIGHT. i looked at my sent mail to find the first IT support request that started with “well folks this might be a new one…” and it was six hours after mercury went into retrograde god damn it astrology confirmation bias strikes again.

I'm playing around with Obsidian. I might do an update here once I figure out a good setup. I just wanted to mention that I was so hesitant to try this software bc everyone was like ooooooh it has a steeeep learning curve, here is a 10hr video curse.

And then I install it and it's just a very friendly software with tons of customization options . . .

No worries! The nature of the situation is confusing and intended to be somewhat Uncomfortable

But to clear things up, Constance, the demon that’s possessing Ross, isn’t the standard demon.

It’s more of a malignant force of corruption that banishes all inhibitions and encourages one to act on all of their impulses and invasive thoughts. And also makes them obsessed with Sol.

So essentially: When Ross is possessed, he doesn’t “become” Constance or a different person, he is still very much himself, but almost in a state of intoxication.

cohost has been a strong alternative to get away from ai scraping. they have no ads, no scraping, and a very similar layout to tumblr (with reblogging, tagging, replying, asks, etc).

so far its felt very much like being on tumblr without the toxicity. the biggest loss is that they dont have statistics- but its nice. it makes it feel cozier, and like the people interacting with your content matter more. ive really been enjoying it.

I’ve seen other people talk about going to Bluesky and tbh while jumping ship feels like a pretty good plan, I’ve been on Tumblr actively for a little over a year now and I don’t think I really have the energy to try and rebuild on a different platform right now. I’ve already gone through a lot of my art and Nightshaded it, so I’ll definitely keep doing that.

Overall, I’m not really sure what my plan is, even after sleeping on it. I’m still really miserable and frustrated after hearing about this bs. What I might do is keep posting art, but heavily nightshade it and maybe glaze it too for good measure. I’ll probably also stop posting WIPs/previews as frequently. Not really sure. Again, all of this is really frustrating and I can’t think of what the future holds for me in terms of sharing my work without feeling miserable.
