honestly, i’m not entirely sure whether sugar in the tank is portraying its love in a positive light. like, on the surface it seems like a sappy love song (which i love) but i feel like (probably because of things that someone said on here) there might be more to it.

like:

i feel like there’s a lot to unpack here. is this being grateful to the person you love for pulling you out of your comfort zone? is it expressing that you would do things you don’t really want to do for the one you love? or is it being mad at them for pressuring you to be someone you’re not, trying to “change” you? am i reading too much into this? or not enough? can someone help me out here? i’m not exactly an expert song analyser here

We all know about the fuss around Pluto, how many decry its "demotion" to a dwarf planet, and how it's still an honorary planet in the hearts of many, and I totally get it, but I don't think any of you out there are taking it far enough.

What about the rest of the so-called "dwarf" planets, huh? where's their justice? what about Ceres? Haumea? Makemake? Eris? fucking Quaoar?! why have just eight planets when you can have 18?! Why only invite Pluto to the party if you're already gonna expand the guest's list?!

you know what should be "demoted"? fucking Phobos and Deimos, the two "moons" of Mars. these two motherfuckers are proof that the barrier-to-entry for moons is too low. they're barely visible, they don't effect mars in any meaningful way, they aren't even round since they aren't big enough to round themselves under their own gravity, and one of them isn't even in a stable orbit of Mars! Phobos is gonna get ripped apart by mars' gravity in just a few dozen million years!

the concept of a "Dwarf Moon" is too good for them. they should be called, like, sateloids or something. Lunoids at most. fuck em

do yourself a favor and read about sedna today. some REAL exciting stuff about different hypotheses for how it got there and what other orbits of trans-neptunian bodies could tell us about those hypotheses!

I also had a fun time on the article about one criterion for determining whether something should qualify as a planet, "clearing the neighborhood" of other similarly-sized bodies. most of the equations people have come up with to explain it depend on distance from the sun among other things, which is fun. I never really wondered particularly why our smallest planets were the ones close to the sun, or why mercury is a planet even though it's smaller than some moons. I still don't get the orbital maths of it all but I think it's neat!!
