What Your Favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds Girl Says About You
[Main Girls Only][DM][GX]
Aki Izayoi/Akiza Izinski (likes the second half of the series): You are pretty chill, and almost definitely a Faithshipper. You’re very fond of doing all kinds of scenarios of their first meeting. You write at least one thing per day appreciating her development. You really, really like the rollerskates episode. Even if it could have been better, you still love Yusei giving her Stardust. You get really sad during the ending, but you know in your heart of hearts that they definitely kissed offscreen.
Aki Izayoi/Akiza Izinski (dislikes the second half of the series): You got the taste of a girl who was straight-up unhinged, and you've been chasing that high ever since. You find bondage jokes incredibly funny. You have at least one very strong opinion about Crow. Despite your feelings on the second half (most of which can be described as "seething"), you have a soft spot for Sherry. To this day, her battle theme still generates a Pavlovian response of swooning tears in you.
Ruka/Luna: Your soul aches every day for her wasted potential. You started reading the manga the moment you saw scans of how it did her. You were very surprised when Ancient Fairy Dragon got banned. You have edited characters to be wearing flower crowns at least once. You’re still not quite sure what to think about her brother, but you definitely wish Life Stream had showed up earlier. You spent eighty episodes waiting for a followup for the end of Ep. 67, and are still waiting.
Carly Nagisa/Carly Carmine: You are a Scoopshipper, with no questions asked. You were utterly horrified when you found out about the cult thing (even if your source may have been somewhat inaccurate). You refuse to rewatch the second half of the series, and have devoted lengthy fanfics to what really happened afterward. You aren’t sure if you like nerds or goths, and you’re glad you don’t have to choose. You have tried to do Fortune Fairy-based readings in real life.
Misty Lola/Misty Tredwell: You may be into Isolationshipping or you may be into Omenshipping, but regardless of where you fall, you are certain she loves women. You saw that bit where she cradles Carly’s face and went “god, that girl is lucky.” Your favorite part of the whole DS arc was when she has Ccaryhua swallow Divine whole. You are very, very angry she’s not in Duel Links yet. (Like, I wrote this in 2021 originally, and she's still not in it? What?)
Sherry LeBlanc: You actually don’t hate the second half, but it’s largely due to her. You have either watched Revolutionary Girl Utena, or have been told several times that you should watch it. You may not be a Roseknightshipper, but you definitely have an LGBT headcanon. You have mixed feelings about how her arc ended, and would have preferred if the entire season was just her running around kicking stuff.
Martha: You hate every single other parent in every other series because you have seen her episodes and beheld a standard none have yet lived up to. She takes no shit, she's a rain of sunlight in a land of misery, she sacrifices herself tragically. Why the fuck did she barely appear after Dark Signers? You just want to talk to the person who made that decision, you say while loading a shotgun.
Mikage Sagiri/Mina Simington: You may be a Careshipper whose favorite arc is Fortune Cup, or an Ushio/Mikage shipper whose favorite arc is Dark Signers. Either way, you just really, really like office ladies, okay? You either think she's cute, relate to her beleaguered nature, or both. Also, did you know there's no ship name for Ushio/Mikage? I didn't until recently, but you definitely do.
Stephanie: Man, you picked the biggest third wheel in the entire franchise and a woman who only appears in the second half to be your fave, huh? That takes a lot of guts. And to my immense surprise, despite her entire existence being "waitress" and "one-note obsession with Jack Atlas", you have decided your OTP with her is Carly. Rock on, Stephanie fans, you make the world brighter.
Misaki: You decided to go dumpster-diving in the video games and found a gem. You understand that the only thing that could have made Bruno's arc better is if he was also Rei Ayanami. The bit at the end where she finally smiles melted your heart like butter in the sunrise. You insist Watts are underrated. You sadly know deep down that there's a reason the only female Yliaster member is non-canon.

Yu-Gi-Oh Protagonist Transformations, ranked by me

I did say in this post that Yu-Gi-Oh is no stranger to transformation sequence, but the more you look at it, it's like that all series had this in some degree, so I decided to rank them from least appealing to the most mind-blowing. It was inspired to this post, by the way. Unlike the protagonists ending post before, I'll include Go Rush!! as well, but I'll only include those from the protagonists and their main anime, so no Capsule Monsters or special episodes like Bonds Beyond Time, or supporting characters in that matter.
We'll start with the series that stood out the least, which is...
8. ARC-V

Yes, it’s pretty unappealing even for me. The Awakened version (left) are just him surrounded with aura and his mutated Z-ARC (right) is… not on my book.
7. Original / Duel Monsters

I ranked DM version a bit higher than ARC-V for this list. Yes, it’s the first and longest Yu-Gi-Oh series and therefore it’s iconic but Yami Yugi a.k.a. Atem didn’t really change clothes outside of making a cape jacket from his host. It’s still good that he manages to split into two selves for his partner later in the story.
6. Duel Monsters GX

It’s like Yami Yugi and Awakened Yuya because he spent some time being possessed by Haou / Supreme King (right), but Judai does had a control of his powers after gaining that and Yubel’s (left) powers and abilities, after that he doesn’t actually transforms outside the eye changes so I can’t rank him higher.
5. SEVENS

From demonic look to Sentai hero... Though unlike other series (except number 4 that will be explained later) these came off as one-off forms as he only wears the costumes in one duel with the process akin to early Metal Heroes series. But his roll call of The Yugaman (right) is cool, by the way.
4. 5DS
While the usual preparation before Riding Duel is pretty cool, this part stands out among my brother's favorite Yu-Gi-Oh series. Yusei just turns gold for his ultimate Synchro Summon technique, but it’s still cool. There’s even non-Riding Duel version on his Duel Links portrait too.
3. Go Rush!!
This recently airing series has the protagonist surrounded by blue (sometimes green) aura to turn back into his real, alien form. But it’s just “casual *flash* battle form” so I can’t rank him too high. But I like how he keeps doing this before his own duel, even when he doesn’t use this stock footage anymore starting in Season 2. And he’s unique among the protagonists as he’s one of the two capable of transforming on his own without outside source.
2. ZEXAL

The concept is similar to DM and GX, only this time Yuma merges with Astral and can de-fuse anytime unlike the latter series. Dark ZEXAL (top right) isn’t in my book and just a palette swap between the first ZEXAL form (top left), which is my favorite. But the other ZEXAL forms (bottom) are awesome too, evolving through Yuma and Astral’s bond. I just wish that the other forms appeared in Duel Links as a skill and not just his first form. Normally, this will be all-time favorite for transformation fans for Yu-Gi-Oh, but he’s ranked here because...
Well, you know who will be my top pick:
1. VRAINS
While I grew up with DM series, my interest took at peak after seeing Yusaku’s transformation sequence when he logs into LINK VRAINS or any cyberworld. It’s cool and flashy, and I like the blue background, even though his Playmaker form has barely any blue on it. The pocket dimension where Yusaku transforms fits its technology theme too. I especially like the hair part, just look of his cool face! And he can transform by himself, just like Go Rush!! series!
The only downside is like Go Rush!!, he doesn’t do this stock footage anymore after Season 1 Episode 30, any login after that is just offscreen or the intro survives but he’s just do the login in blue flash of light, which is disappointing, he even lack the double henshin with Takeru! (his adventuring partner who has the same animation when he individually transforms) But I do like the fact that the world unlock scene in Duel Links has this transformation sequence, which is a nice callback for the first episode where Playmaker’s transformation was shown for the first time, especially for the players who had finished the anime since spoiler alert: Duel Links’s VRAINS World takes place after the end of the series.
See more of VRAINS' henshin here.

【YGO DM】 Kaiba Seto 🍄🐉💙
Kaiba Seto 🍄🐉💙
My first time drawing the maniac gay man 🥰🌈🏳️🌈
Doodled this really quickly
I tried drawing Kaiba for the first time in my life 👍
My fave YGO DM chara~ Gay autistic meow meow mf man 💞
Kaiba is so Sen-core~
(No one is surprised)
I've been experimenting with drawing his eyes!
First two have influences from YGO's art style, 3rd is a mix of both my usual style and influenced from YGO's art style, and the last one is closer to how I usually draw.
Not gonna tag this cuz I plan on drawing the rest later
KaiYami (Kaiba/Yami) has been my fave YGO ship ever since I was a kid. I have such a huge soft spot for YGO DM…
I'm also into the YGO spin-off series, YGO GX and YGO 5Ds. I grew up with those three during my childhood.
Admittedly, YGO designs are really hard for me to draw cuz YGO designs are always so detailed and complex and sharp and angular and really geometric, too… And I'm not really used to drawing those kinds of designs. I'll be practicing more in the future!
I've seen many artists who draw YGO charas in their art style soften the shapes, so I'm still experimenting and trying to decide how I want to draw YGO charas.
I took some influences from the YGO art style and drew with sharper shapes and a sharper brush than I normally would, cuz it felt more fitting. I'm not as used to this brush yet.
I saw YGO EA KaiYami/AteKai artists represent them with the star and mushroom emojis cuz of their hair… I'm gonna cry LMFAOOO 😭😂
Starfish and mushroom? ⭐🍄
YGO: DSOD
(YGO DM & DSOD: Spoilers)
My friend Cinna has been reading YGO DM lately for the first time, and I got reminded of my obsession for these two. I really want to reread the YGO DM manga and rewatch YGO: DSOD for THEM…
YGO: DSOD (Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions) is a movie that takes place after the end of the YGO DM manga (after Atem passes onto the afterlife).
Kaiba's inability to move on from the lack of closure, and his gay brooding, yearning, and obsession…
It was co-written by Kazuki Takahashi, the YGO mangaka, so this movie is canon. Bless his heart. I hope he rests in peace 🙏
2 hours of Kaiba's gay yearning, baby!!!
YGO: DSOD has really pretty colours…
(These are old screenshots so some of the ones I've saved are super saturated or in low res. I need to rewatch the movie to take new screenshots)

Me: Kaiba has issues but that makes the ship sexy. Next.
The mental illness is what makes him [Kaiba] interesting.
C: Yeah like Kaiba is just dysfunctional AKA average late 90s/2000s anime rival
Me: LITERALLY I swear like almost Rivals/Enemies to Lovers ship goes like this Kaiba is just. More obsessed than most This is on like Douman (FGO) levels tbh
C: Kaiba is a prime example of "So obsessed with someone they want to fight that it's gay"
C: Enzan (MMBN/EXE), Kaiba (YGO DM), Hibari (KHR), etc.
C: If you think about the rivals from that era, from 90s and 2000s animanga, they're all either unintentionally autistic vibed, or generally horribly dysfunctional socially.
C: Ren (SK) is pretty much the typical Rival Chara Type B (Aggressive and rash), as opposed to Rival Type A (Calm and collected), but like, genuinely well written and complex enough to work
Makes me sad Ren is still robbed of SO MUCH writing potential tho cuz of frigging SK's writing tho
Me: YEAH EXACTLY
LMAO
Me: Like the Rival Type A that is very cold, aloof, stoic, cool, calm and collected… Kaiba, Enzan, Hibari
C: DKFKSKDLSKDKSK I WAS SO RIGHT FOR THIS
Me: Hibari (KHR) is not explicitly a rival figure since he's a deuteragonist (protag's side ally) in KHR but he does conveniently slot into the "rival figure" role
Kaiba is rival type A, the very cold, aloof, stoic, cool, calm and collected type…
...

Kaiba/Yami line in Duel Links (YGO mobile game) 🌈
I know Kaiba/Yami's ship name is Prideshipping in YGO's EN fandom, and it fits them so well because of their pride as Duelists, and coincidentally Gay Pride, but that ship name is so long, I don't want to have to type that everytime. KaiYami it is! Kaiba/Yami also has a good ring to it.
KaiYami/KaiAte and YamiKai/AteKai are what EA ship fans use for them.
I was, and am still insane about this ship, like there's SO much.
Kaiba is OBSESSED with Yami Yuugi (Atem)
THE DUEL LINKS LINES MAKE ME BLOW UP /POS
C: Homosexual. Why is he so gay.
They need to kiss so bad
C: Kaiba is a prime example of "So obsessed with someone they want to fight/defeat that it's gay"
Me: YEAH LMFAO
Not surprising but I find it wild how the dudebros try to insist that Kaiba is straight.
There's not a single heterosexual cell in this man's body. It's so funny.
YGO is so unintentionally gay. YGO is gayer than most shounen???
Cuz just in general, the shounen genre is infamous for unintentional homoeroticism. The shounen staple where an author/series is so homophobic and misogynistic/sexist that it actually cycles back around to being gay/homoerotic
KaiYami is a subtext based ship but the subtext with them is so good. YGO DM feeds us SO MUCH
...
Me: I should reread the YGO: DM manga and rewatch YGO: DSOD. This movie is so fucking pretty man. 2 hours of Kaiba's gay yearning!
Also I find it so funny how YGO: DSOD made Kaiba muscular. Like he was a twink in the OG YGO DM manga
S: WTF HE LOOKS SO PRETTY IN THE MOVIE
C: Two hours of gay fucking yearning Buffed up!
Me: YEA THE COLOURS ARE FRICKING GORGEOUS God I'm so glad the YGO: DSOD movie keeps YGO's sharp black lineart and saturated colours. It's honestly defining to the YGO art style
Cuz so many anime reboots nowadays have flat and bland ass colours unless they're super high end productions (ie. Fate anime productions, etc.)
C: Agghh yeah
...
S: “I hope the reboot of your favorite anime softens up the characters appearance with a new style and makes the colors look washed out“ is terrifying and it’s already happened
Me: My gay sons in their gorgeous glory thank god the colours in this movie are phenomenal
C: Why is Atem yellow though
Me: I think it's just cuz these edited screenshots have super high saturation/contrast 😭 Couldn't find clearer ones
...
S: The blue glow on his arm is making me blow up and act like I don’t know nobody
Me: OH yeah it's from DSOD Kaiba's Duel Disk that holds his deck
F: (CW: NSFW joke)
Kaiba has such a revenge/hate boner for Yami-- Wait no I mean a regular boner
Me: LMFAO. Both lmfao
F: FR THO
S: LOL
C: Canon
F: Btw I never watched that movie, now I GOTTAAAAA …..Oh man and now I wanna draw Yami Yuugi ;;
...
(YGO DM: Summary)
Me: Just gonna put this summary for my non-YGO mutuals and those who haven't seen YGO: DSOD so they can follow along with the rambles if they're curious
Also it's been a long time since I read YGO DM and watched YGO: DSOD so I'm mostly going off memory
3000 years ago, Atem was sealed away in the Millenium Puzzle and lost his memories and name. Mutou Yuugi solved the Millenium Puzzle, causing the spirit of an ancient Pharaoh, Yami Yuugi (true name: Atem), to take over his body to protect Yuugi and his friends. Eventually, others learn of Atem's existence.
Kaiba is the arch-rival of Yami Yuugi (Atem) who is hate obsessed with him after losing to him because he wants to get revenge and defeat him, thinking of him as his nemesis and rival.
(YGO DSOD: Summary)
YGO: DSOD takes place after the end of the YGO DM manga where Yami Yuugi (Atem) passed onto the afterlife. Kaiba, who was unable to find closure, and in his own way of mourning, was looking for 6 months to find a way to meet Atem again.
Kaiba Corporation (KC) develops Duel Links, a virtual reality system that links the consciousness of people around the world to play Duel Monsters.
At the start of the DSOD movie (or at least near the beginning), Kaiba recreates a perfect holographic reconstruction of Atem, down to Atem's deck, voice, appearance, and personality, but isn't satisfied because it's not the real Atem and lacks Atem's soul.
Kaiba has a whole ass space station developed, orders the Millennium Puzzle to be dug up from the excavation site it was buried in, and secures it in his space station for it to be reassembled with the highest quality tech, in the fastest time possible, heavily guarded (like encased in glass and surrounded by lasers and shit), in a safe place only he can access, to try and reach Atem in the afterlife.
F: OMG HFJFJD YEAHHH that's gay af
YGO DM: The infamous episode preview card
(YGO DM: SPOILERS)
Me: Y'ALL ARE NOT PREPARED FOR THIS VIDEO
THE MUSIC AND INFAMOUS EPISODE PREVIEW K*LLS ME LMFAO
(This one's read by Yami Yuugi)
S: I need that one video of a Yu-Gi-Oh character telling someone to not die and the title card pops in right after saying "[Character name] dies!"
Me: THAT SOUNDS LIKE JONOUCHI/JOEY FROM YU-GI-OH DUEL MONSTERS (YGO DM) WHDHHSHSHSD
S: YEAH HIM LMFAOOOOO
Me: HELP I FOUND IT
I'm downloading this video
I didn't edit a single thing, guys, this is exactly what happens 😭😂
This will always be the fucking funniest thing in YGO DM, LMFAO
S: HELPPPPPPP
This is exactly what I needed
C: JONOUCHI DIES 😭
...
youtube
Me: This scene became so popular that the infamous episode preview scene lines were read out by Kaiba and Marik's VAs at live events.
Anzu's, Kaiba's, and Marik's in order
Kaiba's VA, Kenjirou Tsuda, reads out the "Please don't die, Jonouchi! Next episode: Jonouchi dies!"
Kenjirou Tsuda is also the VA of TYL Lambo (KHR), Sigurd (FGO), Dainsleif (Genshin)
Jonouchi's VA: THIS GUY [KAIBA] ACTUALLY WANTS ME TO DIE
S: ANISBSIBSISBISBA
Me: Kenjirou Tsuda's deep voice is so good man
I LOVE YOU KAIBA AKLDSKLDSKLSDKL
Gay autistic son!
C: LMAOOO
Amazing
I love how the "Duel- standby!" is read out 😭
By Kaiba
God
C: You are valid
#Not gonna tag this one cuz my doodles are still a huge WIP#I'm still experimenting with how to draw him...#sen's rambles

*Looks up Sailor Moon Crystal on a whim*
*Discovers the same company who dubbed it redubbed the original Sailor Moon*
YES A TOLERABLE DUB!
I have been skipping through it all day, and although I miss some of the old voice actors from the original English dub (British Luna was my childhood and the new Luna sounds younger than my heart says she should), the VIZ dub is truer to the source material and dubbed all the seasons.
Now if only they'd do an uncensored and complete and remastered version of Yu-Gi-Oh.
And GX.
And 5D's.
If One Piece can get redubbed, why the hell not the earlier Yu-Gi-Oh's?
I'm still attached to the YGO dub names, but I'd even sacrifice them for an uncensored complete dub! I can't watch subs, I'm blind!

Recommend me some card game animes with the vibe of Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's (individual character arcs, not set in a school environment, the protagonists are not classmates, the protagonists get to know each other throughout the journey, and that have characters of different ages playing from children to adults)
Battle Spirits Shonen Gekiha Dan/Battle Spirits Brave
Card Game Isekai involving mostly a cast of teens but some other varied characters (Brave I think is a bit more age varied and the cast is older), both dealing with war, racism, and horror.
Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress/will+Dress
Was a mix of teenagers and young adults, is mostly about a late night fight club of card gamers who get involved in increasingly strange situations, including a fight with another group and then later a former CIA conspiracy.
Divinez does have classmates but it's definitely kids to adults set in a secret tournament.
So take of that what you will.
Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!!
The protagonist is an aeons old space warrior who teams up with two kids, most of the journey is about their growth as people, not set in school, goes through time and space.
Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS
The main cast is a mix of teenagers and working adults. Only Aoi and Yusaku go to school to each other. School barely factors in. Is not set in a school environment. Is more a digital conspiracy thriller.
Battle Spirits Sword Eyes
A group of 12 chosen heroes of differing age must fight to decide the fate of the world that ultimately becomes a conspiracy against God himself. Much of the journey is learning to understand each other despite being divided between Light and Dark.
Saikyo Ginga Ultimate Zero Battle Spirits
Basically One Piece in Space except they blew all the budget all the rigs of the main character's aces that the villains have basically noone on their side playing. But it is a journey of discovery of differing ages not set in school, in a space ship.
Battle Spirits Double Drive
Two kids (one from a normal world and one from a world where card games are life and death) end up in a world that's slowly dying that's the source of Battle Spirits. I think there's a little kid, plus a sleazy adult thief. They journey on a sand ship to stop the apocalypse.
(I need to watch Duel Masters at some point, in Japanese...)

Aaaaaaaand we're finally back!
Crow lied awake that night, turning everything over in his head. The more he thought about it, the more convinced he became: 1.He needed a better job. 2.He needed a steady source of income. 3.He needed to protect the future (and the futures of those kids). 4.He didn’t have a lot of other options, former criminal that he was.

How do you know that Zexal's reception never made any clear if it was real or not that the show was polarizing, but hard to determine if it was well recevied or not?
Very simple: if the so-called fandom claims Zexal was 'well received in Japan,' where’s the actual source for that? All I heard in 2015 was this fake nonsense about Zexal being more popular and successful than 5D's. Konami supposedly wanted Zexal to be bigger, but it never really took off. Zexal relied more on shock factor, fake tension, and suspense, rather than being humanized. It took 11 years after its first episode for people like me to forget it even existed. Meanwhile, OCG Stories is better, even though its stories are short and just decent.
But if you want my actual opinion, the ratings for Zexal were abysmal, and the story was so narrowly focused that I never really got invested in the characters to begin with. Zexal struggled during its first half, but it got better later on—only for things to start going insane with the ratings. The fandom never really understood whether the episodes were well-received or not, because some were too distracted by the animation or, as ThatAnimeSnob would say, 'pretty colors.' Speaking of ThatAnimeSnob, he’s still trolling modern anime in his 40s, refusing to work like most people.
My actual point is that Zexal's reception and ratings are more mixed than I expected. The show isn’t good when it’s aimed at a younger audience, as older fans got split on how 'childish' the main character and the supporting cast are. So no, Zexal is nothing more than a rollercoaster for those who wanted something cheerful and colorful.
People call me ironic for using double standards, but most Yu-Gi-Oh! fans lack common sense. You can blame their own shortcomings from the 2010s.
I can only see why people want to revisit this topic—it’s because the fandom can’t acknowledge how terrible the duels in Zexal were. Take Kite vs. Mizar round 3 on the moon, for instance. It’s so bad that I wanted to burn my monitor after rewatching it, especially since they killed off a character who mattered more than the entire season. Zexal 2 is just a poorly written battle royale shounen that leans on a comedic and badly executed concept from Doma, or tries to copy the former (the Dark Signers from 5D's), which also failed. Zexal is too much of a mix of the first three Yu-Gi-Oh! anime instead of being its own thing or having a clear outcome. I’ve heard that both the show and the card game became problematic for Konami because it made things feel worse.
Another reason it failed is that its writer, Shin Yoshida, who everyone hated during Zexal, was in charge of the manga, which I think was much better than the anime.
#yugioh#ygo#yugioh zexal#ygo zexal#zexal#this is why we can't trust reddit or anyone else#zexal was just konami's cash cow of dinosaur king and dragon ball love child with that whole zexal 2 arc being based off Bakugan season 3

20 Reasons why Yugioh 5D's was disrespected by bad Yugioh Fans
Fandom Drama: Over the years, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's has been a frequent source of debate within the fandom. Some fans hold it as a high point of the franchise for its mature storytelling and complex characters, while others criticize its departure from the more lighthearted tone of earlier series like Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. This divide has occasionally led to heated arguments within the community. In fact, I don't blame anyone. Sure, yugioh was a silly card game anime, but it never tried to be mainstream when it came to its anime, just fewer people were invested in it. The problem was that Yugioh fans tend to be annoying when a show is put in debate
Initial Skepticism: When Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's was first announced, it faced a lot of skepticism. The concept of card games on motorcycles (Riding Duels) was mocked and met with confusion, leading many fans to dismiss the series before it even aired.
Konami's Silence: Konami, the company behind the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, has never provided a clear explanation or addressed the initial backlash against 5D's. This lack of communication has left many fans frustrated, feeling that their concerns were never acknowledged.
Yusei Fudo's Character: The protagonist, Yusei Fudo, is a polarizing figure. His stoic and serious demeanor is praised by some for being a refreshing change from previous protagonists but criticized by others for being too bland or emotionless, contributing to a divided fanbase.People forgot about Yusaki from Vrains, who was just a self-inserted Yusei, because they ruined it with their mental gymnastics.
5. Modern Yu-Gi-Oh! Fans: Newer generations of Yu-Gi-Oh! fans, who were introduced to the franchise through later series like Zexal or Arc-V, sometimes overlook 5D's, either because of its age or its different tone. This generational divide can lead to 5D's being underappreciated by the broader fanbase.
6. Card Mechanics Complexity: The introduction of Synchro Summoning was initially seen as overly complex by some fans accustomed to simpler gameplay mechanics. This perception of complexity contributed to a mixed reception among players who were hesitant to adapt to the new system.
7. Anime's Shift in Tone: Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's was darker and more mature compared to its predecessors, focusing on themes like class disparity and dystopian society. This shift alienated some younger viewers and those who preferred the lighter, more fantastical elements of previous series.
8. Censorship and Localization: The English dubbed version of 5D's suffered from significant censorship and localization changes, altering character names, dialogue, and scenes to be more child-friendly. These changes often diluted the show's intended impact and alienated older fans who sought a more faithful adaptation.
9. Marketing and Merchandising: Compared to other Yu-Gi-Oh! series, 5D's received less aggressive marketing and merchandising efforts. This lack of promotion contributed to it being less prominent in the minds of both old and new fans.
10. Legacy in the TCG: While Synchro Summoning has become a staple in the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game (TCG), some players felt that 5D's didn't receive the recognition it deserved for its contributions. The focus quickly shifted to newer mechanics like XYZ and Pendulum Summoning, overshadowing the innovations introduced in 5D's.
11. Mean-Spirited Disputes: The disagreements over 5D's have sometimes turned mean-spirited. Proponents of 5D's often accuse detractors of being unable to appreciate the series' depth and sophistication. On the other hand, critics of 5D's sometimes dismiss its fans as elitist or out of touch with what made Yu-Gi-Oh! fun in the first place.
12. Character Assassination: Some fans have gone so far as to attack characters personally. Yusei Fudo, for example, is a frequent target. Critics of his stoic personality often describe him as boring or emotionless, while his supporters argue that his calm demeanor and strategic mind make him a compelling and unique protagonist.
13. Nostalgia vs. Evolution: A significant part of the debate revolves around nostalgia. Fans of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters series sometimes view 5D's as a betrayal of the franchise's roots. They argue that the shift to a darker, more complex narrative was unnecessary and alienated younger viewers. Meanwhile, fans of 5D's argue that the franchise needed to evolve and mature to stay relevant.
14. Riding Duels Controversy: The introduction of Riding Duels (dueling on motorcycles) was a particular flashpoint. Some fans ridiculed the concept as absurd and a gimmick, leading to derogatory nicknames and memes that persist to this day. Supporters of 5D's argue that Riding Duels added a dynamic and exciting new element to the series.
15. Factionalism: The Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom has, at times, split into factions, with different groups staunchly supporting their favorite series. This factionalism can lead to exclusionary behavior, where fans of one series belittle or ostracize fans of another. This has been particularly noticeable with 5D's, as it often stands out due to its distinct tone and themes.
16. Dismissal of Criticism: On both sides, there's a tendency to dismiss legitimate criticism. Fans of 5D's may brush off critiques as merely a lack of understanding, while detractors may ignore the series' strengths, such as its intricate plot and character development, in favor of pointing out its perceived flaws.
17. Social Media Battles: The rise of social media has only intensified these disputes. Platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and various Yu-Gi-Oh! forums have seen countless threads and discussions devolve into arguments over the merits of 5D's. These debates often escalate quickly, with insults and accusations being thrown around liberally.
18. Impact on New Fans: This ongoing drama can be intimidating for new fans who are just discovering the series. The aggressive nature of some discussions might discourage them from expressing their opinions or exploring different parts of the franchise.
19. Misrepresentation: There's a tendency for both sides to misrepresent the other's arguments. Fans of 5D's might characterize all detractors as immature or stuck in the past, while critics might portray 5D's supporters as pretentious or overly serious. This misrepresentation only serves to further entrench the divide within the fandom.
20. Understanding: There's a recurring complaint among 5D's supporters that many Yu-Gi-Oh! fans "can't read shit or understand our culture." This harsh sentiment stems from frustration over perceived misinterpretations of the series' themes and characters. Fans of 5D's feel that the series' complex narrative and mature themes are often misunderstood or undervalued by those who prefer the more straightforward storytelling of earlier series. This cultural gap exacerbates tensions, as each side feels the other fails to grasp the essence of what makes their preferred series special.
Yugioh fans are their own worst enemy and can't read shit.

It seems the main reason Belowski is mentioned in Midterm Destruction is because he had a removed Tag Force sprite from the original GX Tag Force 1.
I don't know if there will be another GX Speed Duel set later down the line, since there are enough characters to justify it, but we covered all the seasons, so... we'll see.
We'll also see if they will have another DM set in place of the likely 5D's one.
