Language is genuinely insane the way ideas on god do not translate if I think too much about it it's like my mind is halved like obviously there're things that genuinely do not have a correspondence because they're linguistically and physically present in a place but not another (names of trees or animals places etc etc) but it's so wild to think of common words like cane will make me think of a generic dog but never of a dog I haven't met in italian, while the mental image for perro is specific to dogs I have met in a context where I was speaking Spanish. It's like sometimes I have to concentrate to reconcile that what I called perro and what I call cane are the same thing, though obviously it's an automatic action that the brain performs all the time. In the same way recounting events that happened in a language in another is always so strange even when it's perfectly translatable.

I’m not even looking up italian equivalents of french expressions anymore because 90% of the time it’s just its literal translation

This is the most animated Vivi you would hear. Especially when she is really angry at you (bc she doesn’t have agree of your choice of man).
Translation (it’s Venezuelan, so some of the insults don’t have translation, I will try to make it as close as possible):
“But I still don’t understand WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU SEE IN THAT SHITHEAD!?”
“BITCH, HE IS UGLY, AND BESIDES OF UGLY, HE IS UNFAITHFUL”
“Dude, I seriously want to pass through the screen and PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE!”
You know Vivi says, calmly. It’s funnier in spanish, ngl lmao

no me importa BAHAHA I love that you learning Spanish
the way i say that like 20 times a day. i have to. it hits so much harder than “i dont care” bc it feels like im dramatically saying . it matters not. I LOVE IT
for some reason this ask sent me into a monologue both in the below text and the tags….. under a read more for your scrolling convenience
i also like saying un poco [insert spanish adjective here or english if i don’t know the word for it] whenever i need to describe something. also (im consulting actual/native/fluent spanish speakers now) IS LINDO REALLY THE ONLY WORD FOR CUTE I FEEL LIKE IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE A CUTER WORD LIKE POCO I LOVE THE WORD POCO 😭 but not poco bc then i cant say un poco cute >:/ LIKE IT SHOULD BE PICO SO I COULD SAY AY QUE PIQUITO BUT THAT WOULD MEAN LITTLE BEAK?!!!!! I DONT WANT TO SAY THAT!!! but yeah if there’s a more colloquial word for cute that’s more fun to say like linguistically…….lmk. but so far i quite appreciate the rules of spanish bc i took it when i was in school and did rly well actually . and i still remember a lot of the rules and vocab so talking to random customers in spanish is getting a lot easier!!! and sometimes i just ask ppl how to say a word or if they said a word i didnt understand im like “what does that word mean” then they describe it and im like “say it again” then they do and then bam i have learned a new word !! i hate that everyone is right and to improve speaking a language you actually have to….speak……. the language….. and not just learn vocab and rules BUT now that im 90% over my social anxiety sitch it’s a lot easier to ask questions and learn!!!!! also 12/10 they think i’m cute for asking and then they compliment my spanish and say i’m cute and then i get a compliment for wanting to learn :3 excellent positive reinforcement, i am unlearning shame and guilt mhm yes

Me, listening to Harry Potter audiobook in Spanish and getting STUPID EMOTIONAL about it hh god
I understand about every 20th word if that, but the thing is. I learned English this way - by knowing especially the first book by HEART and then switching language, and I'll be damned, this method is still working nearly 20 years later bc wow my brain is doing a live auto-translation just going along with the tidbits I'm picking up here and there.

so yesterday I went to a tiny tiny protest for Palestine and I just wanna say, truly don't underestimate what you can do with even just 2, 6, 10 people, just cuz you cannot gather thousands of people in your protest or action doesn't mean you can't do things, I gave some flyers and stickers to people that were passing by, some people asked things, some people expressed how they're with us, a very old Jewish man who knew basically 0 Spanish talked to me and still wanted the flyer even if it was in Spanish and said mazel tov and stayed there the whole time we were there, many people were interested in knowing things and listened and wanted the flyers and recorded our tiny protest, every little bit is something, do what you can, specially if youve read things and learned things about Palestine lately that mainstream media isn't covering, share what you know
