thank you for bearing with my purgatory posting and i'm also glad to see i'm not the only one who still has this fungus eating away at my brain matter. seeing other purgatory posting in the tag makes me feel better lmfao.

i'm not done btw, posting will (probably) continue as i revisit vods. wanted to extend a thanks in the interim, since i know how contentious the event was in the moment. i kinda thought the general consensus was most people hated thinking about it, but there's been a weird amount of engagement and yknow other people talking. makes me happy to know i'm not alone here!

when i was 14 or so, i joined a tf2 all crit orange 5cp and i started playing normally but i didnt know it was a friendly server and killing other players was a faux pas, so everyone else on the server started working together to spawnkill me including teammates cus friendly fire was on, and i just got stuck trying to beat all of them at once for hours and hours getting more and more upset until i started crying

God. You won't ever understand the feeling of cheering for Soulfire unless you watched Pac or Bad's stream today. It's literally Soulfire against the world. Everyone wants to kill them and they were told to their face. Bad had to act just like a cornered animal and make himself look bigger by trash talking and ended up making things worse. Red got a mission to kill Pac. Red circled Tina and Rivers at their spawn and spawnkilled both of them and tool River's stuff and blamed it on Bad for not giving up Pac. Pac was hidden the entire time, running in caves and desperate to finish his tasks. Cell messaged Pac, calling him darling. Pac found out his personal monster is hunting him again. Bad talked him through a panic attack and promised to keep him safe and protect him. Bad promised to destroy the Red base for Pac. They promised they'd do anything to win

They finished their secret base. They made home out of purgatory. They have cows and chickens and a farm that won't be vandalized. They held each other's hands through today. Pac made chairs for the rest of the team

⟢ Azuretime/Spawnkill/Petalblade/however you call it is very complex to me. Not only because I enjoy complicating things so much that even I fail to understand it sometimes—(it’s a sign that im cooking!!!!! eureka)—but feel like it gives the characters more "humanity." Morally complex characters are the cup of tea I chug down.

pre-ritual.

⟢ Two Time’s motivation to join the cult was the promise of the Spawn’s curing and steadfast love. (also free food, why not?) Their main focus was a quote on quote ' cure ' for their mental illness. Under the impression that their mental illness was just them unclean and unsaved by the Spawn, they took heavy interest im the cult. They were a very conformist person, and heavily relied on the other members to do things for them, whether that be decision thinking, their routine, how they talk. . . it was easy to sway them here and there just like any other unfortunate members their age. Again, low empathy. "I will do this because I believe it is what the Spawn wants rather than me actually caring as much as I should."

—"I dare say… shall we sneak out again?"

—"That… i’m not so sure of, I will admit. It is forbidden, no? I’ll be glad to participate in anything else you’d like, Azure!"

—"Mm, you know me! I’ve been here long enough to self indulge without directly breaking the rules! It has happened numerous times with the elders unable to lay a hand on me. I’m sure everything will go swell."

—"This is why you are going to be sacrificed on April 26th, 20XX at 25:00."

—"what?"

—"hm?"

⟢ What is a Two Time and Azure without self doubt… This is a shared experience between all of the members: Not being good enough for the Spawn—most common in the younger members. Also because I feel like Azure is neglected by a majority of the fandom and is only relevant when it’s Azuretime… I need to make an exclusive Azure ask because are you telling me he doesn’t have horrifying internal suffering and misplaced loyalty of his own. Be serious. is the Azure on his own in the room with us….

Two Time saw themself as a burden upon others, only capable of being dependent on others and cannot do anything right by themself.

Azure was similar. He was a little troublemaker who often snuck out and lingered around in places they weren’t supposed to be in. This eased slightly as they got older, but he still saw himself as someone who caused nothing but trouble for others. His hobby of botany was originally a younger them trying to get outside more in order to further connect with the Spawn and its creations. It soon turned into something he genuinely enjoyed doing and was eager to share with others. "I can identify many of the Spawn’s magnificent creations of nature… it surely is a blessing! I thank you—Spawn—greatly for guiding me to the path you have chosen for me. To teach others the greatness of you through something as fragile as flowers."

Azure was in the cult longer than Two Time. I’m still not sure if he was born into it or just joined early, but either way, he was already established when Two Time showed up. The latter began to admire and truly grow close with him in particular compared to others. Azure was also a bit more forward with their affections—at least, in a friendly way at the time. He would always make Two Time feel welcome within the cult by gifting them little trinkets and crafts. For someone as socially unaware and emotionally stunted as Two Time, Azure’s gestures were easier to understand and connect with.

events leading up/post ritual.

⟢ Both Two Time and Azure knew about the sacrifice. It wasn’t labeled as one, though. It was simply masked and referred to as an ' ascension, ' one step closer to Spawn! And both were excited for that. To ascend to Spawn and gain their rebirth together. When they were handed the Ghostfire Dagger, neither of them truly believed it would have to be used. It was thought to be more of a symbolization of a blessing rather than to be used. Maybe there would be some blood, a mutual cut or two, but nothing serious. Little did they know… it was EVIL Ghostfire Dagger.

—"There's just one more step for us to please our dear Spawn. For us to see the second life finally brought to fruition. On the 26th, high disciple Two Time and Azure. You both shall set out on the grand step to rebirth. With the Ghostfire Dagger we bestow upon you, respawn shall be achieved!"

—"Spawn will be eternally pleased at our devotion!"

⟢ The truth about the ' ascension ' was came to Two Time only a few days before the ceremony. One of them had to die. And it had to be Azure. What had once felt like a honor, now weighed heavily on their mind. They didn’t know how to process it, but they hesitated—which was rare for them. They started finding ways to delay it, stalling and dragging their feet through every step. A part of them thought maybe someone else would be chosen. Maybe the dagger would pass to another pair. Maybe the Spawn would change its mind.

Nope! ^_^

The day drew closer, and something in Two Time shut down. They stopped seeking Azure out, and that worried him. They told themself it was for the better. That Azure would respawn once finished. That it was the right thing to do. It was what the Spawn wanted. And that had to be enough.

⟢ Two Time believes that the sacrifice was all their fault. Not the cult’s. Not the Spawn’s. (of course not!!) They didn’t avoid Azure because they didn’t care or didn’t want him to care for them. Quite the opposite. They ached for his kindness, but the thought of taking it now felt unbearable. They think that their entire relationship is what led them to being candidates. That Two Time’s insistence on being with the other, on following him, choosing him, orbiting him — that led to their pairing. That Azure, without even realizing it, stepped into the role because Two Time made him the only option.

Is it selfish for Two Time to not wish to be saved by the other survivors because of what they did? Do they refuse to let others care because they believe they don’t deserve it—or do they refuse to let others care because it doesn’t fit into their warped worldview?

Two Time feels the burden of their actions, even if they don't fully understand it. They heavily try to repress the memory of Azure. They cling onto any belief of Spawn they have because it is the only thing they have left. It is the only thing to keep them going. They genuinely don’t understand why the other survivors don’t feel the same. Why they don’t turn to the Spawn in their suffering. Why they still talk about escape or hope or dreams, when there’s something right in front of them that explains everything.

Two Time doesn’t want to dream and see Azure’s face. They don’t want to lay down in a field and wish Azure was right beside them. Not because they are now maliciously evil, but because they recognize the remorse—sorrow—guilt they feel is in defiance of the wish of God. The Spawn.

here’s where i become a little existential… last call

⟢ Can you save someone if you have to let them go?

If you were to think about someone you’re very close to—a family member, friend, or someone you love—If their kind and trusting nature leads them to sacrificing themself for others, how would you feel? Would you be okay with them putting themself in harms way for others? Or would you, deep down, accept that they were chosen to suffer for the benefit of others, even if it meant losing them forever?

You have to consider—if you want to prioritize their wellbeing first, would you choose to sacrifice those who would have been saved by your loved one? Would you accept the judgment of those above you—those with greater influence—who see the greater good in their suffering? The hurt it may cause Two Time to forcibly remove Azure away from everything he ever loved, all for the approval of a God that likely doesn’t even know they exist.

Is the way to save someone from themself to cage them? Does that make the cage inherently evil if it ensures their safety and happiness?

so then you have to ask again… is saving someone truly about keeping them alive? Or is it about accepting what they and possibly others want, even if it means watching them knowingly or unknowingly destroy themself?
