Located along the shore of Lake Bardawil, near the road linking Qantara and Arish, lie two adjacent archaeological sites: El-Khweināt and El-Fulūsiyyāt, both now part of the Zaranik Protected Area.
El-Khweināt is home to the remains of tightly clustered buildings and several ancient tombstones engraved with inscriptions in ancient Greek, many of which are shaped in human form. In contrast, El-Fulūsiyyāt boasts the remnants of several churches that date back to the 5th century AD. Roman geographers once referred to it as Strasine.
Perched on a prominent mound known as Tell El-Fulūsiyyah, this area held great strategic importance. It served as a crucial intersection between the shoreline route connecting to Pelusium (Al-Farma) and the ancient military road. Although little remains today, traces of a fortress built by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century AD are still visible in the eastern sector, constructed as a defense against Persian invasions.
Local Bedouins named the site based on the large number of Roman coins found there.
This site is an exceptional stop for travelers embarking on Egypt Tours who are eager to explore rarely visited historical gems. It can easily be included in various Egypt Tours Packages for history lovers.
For those seeking timeless adventures, these sites provide the perfect setting for Egypt Classic Tours, immersing visitors in early Christian and Byzantine heritage.
Whether part of guided Egypt Day Tours or curated Egypt Day Tours from Cairo, these ruins offer an extraordinary journey into Egypt’s northern frontier.
During spring, travelers can enjoy the tranquil charm of the area as part of their Egypt Easter Tours itinerary.
Additionally, the proximity to the Mediterranean makes it an ideal stopover for Egypt Shore Excursions, combining culture with coastal beauty.

Vlad’s Letters
Copy of the letter to His Highness, the king of Hungary, from Vlad, the voivode of the Transalpine Country, from the Turkish parts.
Most High Prince and Lord, so merciful to us! In other letters I have written to Your Majesty how the Turks, the cruelest enemies of the cross of Christ, have sent to us their great messengers, that we may no longer keep the peace and connection made and established between Your Majesty and us, and no longer celebrate the wedding, but to cling only to them and to go to the Gate of the emperor of the Turks himself, that is, to his court; and if we do not give up the peace and the connection and the marriage of Your Majesty, then the Turks do not want to keep peace with us either.
They also sent a chief counsellor of the Turkish emperor, Hamza beg of Nicopol, to decide the border on the Danube, because if that Hamza bey could have brought us in any way, with the cunning either by faith or with another deception, at the Gate, then good, and if not, to seek to catch us and take us captive. But, with the mercy of God, as we walked to that frontier, we learned of their cunning and treachery, and we were the ones who seized that Hamza beg, in their land and country, near a city called Giurgiu. Opening the fortress to the Turks, at the cries of our people, with the thought of theirs entering, ours - mingling with them - entered and acquired the fortress, which we immediately burned ...
... Your Majesty should know that this time we did it to their detriment, to those who kept urging us to leave the Christians and side with them. So know, Your Majesty, that we have broken the peace with them not for our own benefit, but for the honor of Your Majesty and the holy crown of Your Majesty and for the preservation of the whole of Christendom and for the strengthening of Catholic law.
Seeing what I have done, they have forsaken the quarrels and wars which they have hitherto had in all other parts, both from the land and the holy crown of Your Highness, and from all other parts, and have thrown all their fury upon us.
As the weather opens, that is, in the spring, they intend to come hostilely, with all their might. But they have no fords, for their fords on the Danube, apart from Vidin, I set to burn them, to destroy them and to make them desolate. Because too little can bring us any harm at Vidin, they would like to bring their ships from Constantinople and Gallipoli, on the Sea, to the Danube.
So, Your Majesty, merciful Lord, if Your Majesty's will is to fight with them, then gather all your country and all the people of the army, both horsemen and infantry, bring them to this country of ours overr our mountains and please fight here with us against them. And if Your Majesty does not want to come yourself, then be kind and send your entire army to the Transylvanian Parts of Your Majesty, before the feast of St. Gregory.
But if Your Majesty does not want to send the whole army, then give us only as much as you want, at least the army from Transylvania and the Szekler parts. And if Your Majesty wants to give some help, then Your Majesty be kind not to delay us, to truly tell us the thoughts of Your Majesty.
Please do not delay our man, who brings the letter, this time, Your Majesty, but send him back to me, immediately and quickly. Because in no way do we want to let go of what we started, but to get the job done.
For if the Almighty God hears the prayers and desires of Christians and bends His hearing willingly to the prayers of his humble children and gives us such victory against the heathen, enemies of the cross of Christ, it will be the greatest honor and benefit and help to the soul for Your Majesty and the holy crown of Your Majesty and for all true Christianity; for we do not want to flee from their savagery, but to fight with them in every way. And if we reach, God forbid, an evil end and this country of ours perishes, Your Majesty will not be of use or facilitation from such a thing, because it will be to the detriment of the whole of Christendom.
Besides this letter, believe what this man of ours, Radul Farma, my secretary, will say to Your Majesty, as if we ourselves would be standing in front of Your Majesty.
From the fortress of Giurgiu, on the fifth day (Thursday), of the feast in honor of the Saint Virgin Scolastica, year 1462.

Spring Spa Week 2019: CBD Explained
http://blog.spaweek.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/DIY-CBD-Skincare-500x281.jpg
Meet the wellness industry’s newest obsession: CBD Oil. If you pay attention to skincare, spa, and beauty news,  you know about the latest ingredient sweeping the industry. But even if you’ve kept up with the trend, you may have some questions about CBD oil and how you can use it. We’re here to help. For even info about CBD oil and all its benefits, check out this article from Farma Health.
What is it?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is an oil that comes from resin glands on cannabis buds and flowers. It can also be extracted from hemp or THC.
Sound complicated? It’s not really– CBD is just an oil that comes from the plant cannabis.
It doesn’t have any of the psychoactivity elements of THC, so it won’t get you high, but it is known to have significant medical benefits.
What are the benefits?
CBD is a strong pain reliever and a great anti-inflammatory ingredient, which is why it’s so popular in skincare products, especially for sensitive skin or redness-prone skin. It can also reduce anxiety and depression and control acne.
New studies are always popping up about the benefits of CBD and it has the potential to be used as a treatment for a wide range of conditions: including arthritis, diabetes, MS, chronic pain, PTSD, depression, infections, and epilepsy. It can also be used to help symptoms of some cancer treatments, like nausea.
Is it safe?
In a word: yes. CBD won’t get you high – no matter how you use it. THC is the part of cannabis that has psychological effects – so CBD by itself can’t get you stoned.
CBD Oil isn’t nationally regulated, and that means that the CBD Oil isn products can vary throughout the market and the quality is not always consistent. Look for products from states that have legalized both medical and recreational marijuana, as those will be more carefully regulated.
Is it legal?
It depends where you live. In the 29 states where medicinal or recreational marijuana is legal, CBD is legal. In 17 other states, there are specific laws about what CBD products can be used by who and for what. Check your local laws before making any purchases (most companies making CBD products will only ship to areas where their products is legal.)
Congress recently introduced new legislation seriously adjusting the hemp policy in the U.S. The actual legal implications of this change are complex, but the main takeaway is that it makes some CBD Oil legal throughout the country.
CBD Oil that is derived from hemp plants that are grown under the laws in the Farm Bill is now legal. We know, complicated! This new law will make CBD more accessible to more people throughout the country and will help the products to be more consistently regulated.
How are spas using it?
CBD Oil has become a popular ingredient in the spa industry and we’re seeing new treatments popping up all across the country. There are two treatments that are the most common: the CBD Facial and the CBD Massage. A facial featuring CBD Oil can reduce inflammation and redness in the skin and soothe irritation. A massage featuring CBD Oil is a great de-stresser. The oil can reduce anxiety, soothe sore muscles, and ease tension.
Spas all across the country are offering $50 spa deals featuring CBD Oil. Need to ease tension? Try a CBD Massage at Anta Skin and Laser in New York or CBD Foot Reflexology at Araya Rebirth in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Looking to calm inflammation in your skin? Try a New Groove Hemp Facial at Spa Botanica at Embassy Suites in Concord, North Carolina or an Organic CBD Nourishing Facial at Earth Esthetics in Pleasant Hill, California. Or treat your fingers and toes to a CBD Mani-Pedi at Touch of Sam in Raleigh, North Carolina.
What products should I try?
We’re so glad you asked! Right now, we’re loving:

Pot in 2018: What to Expect
New Post has been published on http://gossip.network/pot-in-2018-what-to-expect/
Pot in 2018: What to Expect
When it comes to cannabis, 2017 was a much better year than anyone was expecting. Back in January, stoners and pot moguls alike were super paranoid about incoming Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his plans to shut down legal weed businesses from coast to coast. After a decade of steady progress on marijuana legalization – with about 90 percent of the country now supporting medical use and eight states having legalized recreational use – was the entire movement going to come crashing down?
A year later, almost no one believes there will be a federal crackdown on the entire cannabis industry. State-legal pot markets seem poised to match or exceed the value of black market pot by 2020. Sessions has admitted that marijuana is not as dangerous as heroin, and his tension with Trump is common knowledge. With the biggest state in the country about to begin recreational sales, and more and more politicians enviously eyeing the tax revenue coming out of places like Colorado and Oregon, legal pot is clearly here to stay. So what kinds of developments can we expect in the weed world for 2018?
The first legal marijuana lounges Let’s start with some great news: there are totally going to be legal marijuana lounges in the United States before the end of 2018! The biggest question is which city will get one open first: Las Vegas, West Hollywood, Boston or Denver. Considering nothing in Massachusetts is quite final yet, the smart money is on Denver, which actually passed a ballot initiative allowing licensed consumption spaces for marijuana back in 2016 but has had a fair amount of trouble implementing the law. You won’t be allowed to smoke, you have to bring your own cannabis, and you have to sign a document saying you won’t drive yourself home, but there’s a good chance the country’s first legal weed lounge will be in the capital of Colorado. Right now the front-runners for who might open first are a café called The Coffee Joint and a vape bar with an arcade called… wait for it… Vape and Play.
If you’re looking a pot hotspot where you can actually, you know, smoke pot, you might want to hold out for Vegas. “I think we’ll have an ordinance voted on and approved by late March or early April,” says former Nevada legalization campaign manager and current weed lobbyist Scot Rutledge. “I don’t know that they’ll be open by 4/20, but they should be open by the one year anniversary of recreational sales” – meaning by July. Sadly, the first Vegas pot lounges won’t be on the Strip, which is technically not in the city of Las Vegas, but they’ll be a short Lyft ride away and you’ll be able to smoke. Huzzah!
A few hours to the west, several cities in California have expressed interest in allowing cannabis social spaces, including West Hollywood, Palm Springs, San Francisco and Oakland. Advocate and aspiring lounge owner Jackie Subeck says the first ones will likely open their doors in West Hollywood this fall – including some spots where you will be allowed to buy pot on site and then smoke or vape it, just like a bar. “There’s also going to be standalone lounges where you can’t smoke or vape but you can buy infused products, like a bakery, or a spa with cannabis treatments,” Subeck says.
Confusion and a “bloodbath” in California Even though California will finally begin allowing the sale of recreational marijuana on January 1st, 2018, a lot of people are very nervous about how that is going to go. The state has had a largely unsupervised medical cannabis program in place since 1996 and now is trying to impose a strict regulatory regime on an enormous population of entrepreneurs and criminals, many of whom have never followed rules before.
Dispensaries have cropped up across California, but new regulations could mean the end for many of them. Jim Wilson/The new York Times/Redux
“Look at what happened here for the last 20 years. It was anarchy,” says Lord Jones founder and CEO Rob Rosenheck, whose posh weed-infused chocolates and lotions have become a celebrity favorite. “I think it will be a sloppy, chaotic, rough-and-tumble transition that will take 12 to 24 months to work itself out.”
Multiple people who I spoke with used the term “bloodbath” to describe the number of weed businesses they believe will fail.
“You can’t afford to suck,” says Jeremy Plumb, director of production science at the marijuana growing company Prūf Cultivar and the co-founder of Farma, one of Portland, Oregon’s most successful dispensaries. “There will be a massive oversupply in California, and the only people that will survive are either the ones that are super affluent and able to take every blow, or the ones that are really doing something with care and an unbelievable depth of skill.”
Of course, there is another option for California weed businesses that can’t cut it in the legal market: stay underground and ship their products out of state.
“The key word in 2018 is enforcement,” says Jason Pinsky, the cannabis producer on Viceland’s Bong Appetit and the chief cannabis advisor at marijuana delivery app Eaze. “In California, 90 percent of the brands that are out there are either going to disappear, or they’re going to operate illegally. It’s almost like the California weed industry is like an avalanche: to some degree, it’s unstoppable. You’re going to need to hire a lot more people in the policing business if you want to make it so all of these companies are going to stop doing business.”
The end of “indica” and “sativa” Pot snobs have been complaining about how meaningless the terms “indica” and “sativa” are for years, but I’m starting to think that 2018 will finally be the year when this concept hits the public. According to stoner lore, indica weed produces a sedating “body” high and comes from a plant with shorter, fatter leaves, while sativa weed creates a more uplifting “mind” high and comes from a plant with longer, thinner leaves.
But Plumb, the Portland dispensary co-founder, has been growing cannabis for decades, and finds these terms “absolutely offensive to any intelligent soul. There is no scientific basis where we can parse indica and sativa. You cannot connect morphology, a broad or narrow leaf, to the experience of a chemical phenotype. That’s just a fucking massive disconnect.”
So what, pray tell, will replace this false classification? How will we describe marijuana strains in the future? Most likely we will begin focusing more on the entire chemical mix of what’s in our weed – what’s known as the cannabinoid and terpene profile. THC is the most famous cannabinoid, as it’s the one that gets you high, but there are several other relevant compounds that can affect how a pot product makes you feel, including the physically relaxing CBD, the sleep-inducing myrcene and the lavender-smelling linalool.
“If you think about weed as a vehicle, THC would be the gas pedal, and the terpenes are your steering wheel,” says Pinsky, who has overseen quite a bit of public education regarding the variety of compounds found in cannabis on Bong Appetit.
Instead of indica and sativa, we’ll have a wealth of terms to describe marijuana. Ethan Miller/Getty Images
A few of the people I spoke with suggested that in 2018, more weed businesses will talk about the effects of various compound formulations in tinctures and vape pens, even if the indica/sativa distinction remains part of how dispensaries sell actual pot for another couple of years. Already, well-informed budtenders at high-end pot shops are helping customers make smarter choices that have nothing to do with the false dichotomy of body high versus mind high.
“The tiniest bit of education results in consumers being able to access these distinctive chemotypes, which open the door to novel effects,” Plumb says.
Canada takes over the world In these times of tumult and prohibition, our kindly neighbors to the north are looking more and more savvy. While the federal government in the United States continues to insist that marijuana has absolutely no medical benefit, making commerce exceedingly difficult for anyone working with state-legal weed, Canada began the process of making pot available to all adults as soon as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took office in 2015. Now, with millions of marijuana dollars flowing through Canadian stock exchanges and recreational sales set to begin in 2018, the Canadian cannabis industry seems poised to dominate the globe.
“These Canadian companies have access to money that no one in the U.S. has, and they’re going to kill us,” says Kris Krane, the president and co-founder of cannabis operations and consulting firm 4Front Ventures. “We’re ceding the future of the industry to Canada. They’re going to buy everybody.”
Canada will begin recreational sale of cannabis in 2018. Adrian Wyld/The Canadian Press/AP
There is a truly mind-boggling amount of weed money flying around up there. The Wall Street Journal reported in September that about half of the trading activity on the Canadian Securities Exchange involved marijuana businesses. That’s right: half of all of the trading on the entire exchange was related to pot. Meanwhile, down in the U.S., there’s pretty much no chance in hell that a dispensary or grow operation could even get listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
At the same time, Canadian pot companies are starting to acquire pieces of pot companies in other countries, as well as export their product to places like Germany, Brazil and Australia. Then again, not every investor is afraid of Canada.
“Once the U.S. opens up, well, Canadians are nice people, but the U.S. will still dominate,” says Evan Eneman, the managing director of Snoop Dogg’s weed-focused venture capital fund, Casa Verde Capital. “The top line revenue of a licensed producer in Canada is probably still smaller than a single retail location in Los Angeles.”
Economic concerns replace philanthropy For a long time, marijuana legalization has been funded by progressive billionaires hoping to improve our criminal justice system – people like tech mogul Sean Parker, investor George Soros and the late Peter Lewis, who started Progressive Insurance. But heading into the elections 2018, fundraisers and political operatives say that the way we’ve been legalizing is changing. Not only are we running out of states that allow the billionaire-funded ballot initiatives that have been the primary driver of legalization, but the billionaires themselves are starting to move on.
“There’s definitely a shift. The social justice folks who had funded legalization up to now seem to have moved on to other issues,” says David Kaufman, a cannabis consultant who served as director of outreach and statewide partnerships for Proposition 64, the 2016 ballot initiative that legalized recreational use of marijuana in California. “The funders behind Proposition 64 are not necessarily going to be the folks that legalize in any other states.”
In the past few years, the political motivations behind marijuana legalization have become increasingly economic, whether it’s politicians hoping to rake in the tax revenue or businessmen paying to lobby for an industry worth over $40 billion. In 2015, a group of investors – including former 98 Degrees lead singer Nick Lachey – attempted to legalize marijuana in Ohio such that all legal cannabis would need to be grown on property owned by the people who paid for the ballot initiative.
While that initiative failed, it may have signaled the beginning of the end of legalizing weed with the goal of keeping people out of prison. In the past year, several prominent cannabis activists either retired or left the movement. Now, many are saying that legislative change will need to rely more on money from the pot industry itself, which could tip the nature of legalization toward helping the rich get richer, rather than accounting for the injustices of prohibition.
Possible legalization in New Jersey will mean mounting pressure on New York New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is not about that weed life. He somehow still thinks that pot is a gateway drug, and wouldn’t even allow the state’s medical marijuana program to include actual bud. But by the end of 2018, he may be rethinking his position.
Phil Murphy will be the next governor of New Jersey – which will almost certainly mean cannabis legalization in the state. Eduardo Munoz Alvarez/Getty Images
With recreational marijuana sales set to begin in Massachusetts over the summer and incoming New Jersey governor Phil Murphy poised to legalize pot as quickly as possible, there’s a good chance that hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers will soon be doing a sort of reverse commute – driving or hopping a train out to the suburbs to pick up legal weed. Even Connecticut seems close to legalizing, with some predicting the state will turn in the next two years.
“If Jersey and Connecticut both do it through the legislature, New York is surrounded. New York City is surrounded. You could take a PATH train from Manhattan and be in New Jersey in 15 minutes,” says Krane, the president of 4Front Ventures. “When sales figures start rolling out from dispensaries in Hoboken and Jersey City, elected officials in New York City are going to throw a fit.”
Of course, most insiders say that there is no way New Jersey will begin recreational sales in 2018. The state could expand their existing medical program significantly, but it will likely take another year or two to write and implement a full legalization bill.

Although it was a great experience
New Story has been published on https://enzaime.com/although-great-experience/
Although it was a great experience
“Each person at Fox Chase, in his or her own way, went above and beyond, day after day, and they saved my life.”
In 2005, Tom Donnelly left his teaching career to start a web development company. “Although it was a great experience, in 2008 a friend who owned an HVAC business asked me to do account management and sales for him,” explained Tom. “It was a wonderful opportunity to work for a fantastic company.” Almost immediately chronic fatigue set in which Tom couldn’t explain. Assuming he was working too much, Tom ignored the weakness and fatigue for two years. He was 38 years old, his career was thriving and he was about to begin graduate school. Tom was also involved with charity and volunteer work. But by the summer of 2010, during a motorcycle trip to New York, Tom experienced excruciating genital and rectal pain that he could not ignore. Tom’s doctor originally diagnosed him with hemorrhoids, but to be safe, he ordered a colonoscopy. “I didn’t drink or smoke. I was healthy and happy, but the pain was destroying the quality of my life,” he said. What Tom didn’t know was that he had cancer growing inside.
Once Tom learned he had stage III rectal cancer, he quickly began to research his options and chose Fox Chase Cancer Center. Tom met with a medical oncologist who specializes in gastrointestinal cancers. The oncologist started Tom on an aggressive course of chemotherapy and radiation therapy to shrink the tumor so that he could be a candidate for surgery. The final step would be chemotherapy to reduce the risk of recurrence.
“So much of cancer treatment is psychological, and from the beginning, because Fox Chase operates with such fluidity, it created the perception that we were attacking the cancer,” shared Tom. “I cannot stress enough how crucial that was for me.”
Tom’s tumor responded to the treatment and he made the decision to undergo his surgery at another hospital because he was hoping to avoid a permanent colostomy. The surgeon successfully removed the final twelve inches of Tom’s sigmoid colon, the rectum and 27 lymph nodes, including the original tumor which had invaded a great deal of the surrounding tissue and more than half of the excised nodes. Tom’s abdominal wall was perforated and a permanent ostomy was performed. So much tissue needed to be removed that Tom essentially lacked a pelvic floor.
“Every time I stood up, the herniated intestines dropped out the bottom of me and each time I sat down I could feel them forced back up inside of me,” Tom shared. The most pressing issue was more tumor in the lymph nodes than the doctors suspected. Tom’s cancer had progressed to stage III2b and he feared that the cancer had metastasized elsewhere. He was also in excruciating pain. Michael Levy, MD, PhD, director of the Pain and Palliative Care Program at Fox Chase, met with Tom to discuss pain control. “I have seen Dr. Levy every two months since the fall of 2010,” shared Tom. “He is one of the most compassionate doctors you will meet. By helping control my pain, I had a much improved quality of life than I would have had otherwise.”
Tom returned to Fox Chase to complete the final step of treatment and learned his fears were confirmed. A PET scan revealed the tumor had spread to Tom’s groin and stomach. Tom met with Jeffrey Farma, MD, a surgical oncologist, to learn if he was a candidate for more surgery. Dr. Farma explained that Tom’s tumor was growing quickly and unless the metastasized tumors responded to an aggressive course of chemotherapy, surgery would not be an option. “I really believed this was the beginning of the end,” thought Tom. “Every patient’s worse fear is stage IV or metastasis. It was a crushing blow.”
In the spring of 2011, after several months of the new chemotherapy, Tom learned that the tumors were responding to the chemotherapy. “I’ll never forget sitting in that room waiting to hear the results of that PET scan. My life literally hung in the balance. Dr. Goodyear walked in, smiled and we all hugged,” Tom said. The scans showed the tumors responded to the treatment and Dr. Farma considered surgery.
“Dr. Farma was honest with me about the risks that I faced,” admitted Tom, who decided to move forward with the surgery. In April 2011, Dr. Farma performed the delicate procedure to remove the metastatic tumors growing in Tom’s groin. Following surgery, an ecstatic Dr. Farma explained that the chemotherapy had eliminated the tumors; he was cancer-free and they preserved Tom’s stomach. “Dr. Farma wanted to impress upon me just how fortunate I was and how rare it was to open me up only to find dead cancer.”
“My body did not bounce back like I had hoped after surgery.” Tom was hospitalized with infections and side effects for weeks at a time and it began to take an emotional toll. “It just seemed as though there was no end to it.” Finally, in June 2011, Tom resumed his treatment, but it was a struggle. “My body would not tolerate the chemotherapy. I was at the limit.”
By the fall of 2011, Tom’s initial PET Scan was clean. “My oncologist called with the good news. I cried for twenty minutes. I was numb. It was the first time in almost two years that for even a moment I could let my guard down.” However, Tom was having a difficult time managing some of the side effects of his treatment, especially the lymphodema, the colostomy bag and the herniated intestines. “Before cancer, I had been a confident, physically fit young man, and now I was physically deformed. I felt ashamed,” admitted Tom.
In January 2012, doctors performed plastic surgery to repair the herniated intestines and rebuild Tom’s pelvic floor so he could function normally. “My activities were severely restricted due to the location of the surgery and I was in rehab for a full year,” shared Tom. “I was living alone, experiencing a great deal of anxiety that the cancer would return and about my future.” Tom’s nurse practitioner, Karon Martyn, encouraged Tom to make an appointment with Karen Mechanic, MD,  and her associate, clinical psychologist, Michelle Rodoletz, PhD.
“Fox Chase psychiatrists, Dr. Mechanic and Dr. Rodoletz, were a tremendous help to me,” shared Tom, who needed help transitioning back into life. “My entire life was reduced to battling cancer and managing side effects. I felt like I was dealing with emotions associated with events that happened two years earlier. My emotions were all over the place.”
In 2013, Tom is cancer-free and he is slowly returning to a normal life. “Physically, I deal with some issues that will be permanent, but I’m back to work, which I love,” explained Tom, who looks forward to the future. “I feel as though I have an entirely new opportunity in life and this extraordinary experience from which to draw upon to connect with others who suffer.” Tom still enjoys helping others and has used this opportunity to volunteer once again with prisoners. He volunteers as a peer mentor at a rehabilitation hospital working with spinal cord injury patients. “I would love to be involved with patient advocacy to help others who are struggling with metastatic cancer.”
“In this small space, it would be impossible to properly relate the pain and fear that a cancer patient endures or the mental strength that one must possess to overcome it. However, no one does it alone and succeeds,” shared Tom. “I could never have survived this ordeal without the support and prayers of so many loving family and friends. I could never thank them all. I include the doctors, nurses and support staff at Fox Chase among that group. My whole team – Dr. Farma, Dr. Goodyear, Dr. Levy, Dr. Horwitz, Dr. Mechanic, Dr. Rodeletz, nurse practitioner Karon Martyn, the incredible nurses, Bonnie, Bill in pain management; Sue in Oncology; Anne in surgical oncology, the technicians, the support staff, Karen Schmidheiser in financial aid, the secretaries were all amazing. I think of these people as family. Each person at Fox Chase, in his or her own way, went above and beyond, day after day, and they saved my life.”

Day 5 Permet to Farma Sortira
69k 1295m
No castles or world heritage sites but fantastic views and lots of flowers
Been planning to come to the Farma Sortira for a long time - where to stay on the long rural stretch has always been an issue so a big relief that it’s really here and open.
German canoe group in last nights hotel. Lots of discussion about canyons but had little other conversation, however probably because of them the hotel put on an excellent breakfast.
Uncertain how much climbing the day would involve so did not take any diversions so missed an Ottoman bridge and hot springs. Excellent views along the river Livoses with plenty of white water for the canoers.
Road quite rough and irritating to have to go slowly down hill to protect wheels. The girl in the tourist office said not to take the shorter, first road to Leskovik but to go right to the Greek border and use the new Greek funded road. I suspect she was right because the road uphill was on a smooth beautifully graded new road, with absolutely zero traffic or people near it so it was as well I did not have a mechanical.
Lunch at Leskovik (800m) was anticipating I still had to go up a lot further to a 1500m pass. About 10 cafes in town but only one did food - a toasted sandwich, so I took my time to build strength for the afternoon. Temp perfect for hill climbing as a few clouds to give shade.
In pm very beautiful mixture of alpine like pastures, natural pine forest and deciduous trees. Herds of both sheep and cows each with herders.
Flowers amazing, especially in some march land around a lake. English type orchids along the side of road and big ones turning the fields purple in the march land.
Suddenly arrived at the farm! Turned out the 1500m was a mistake on the map and the maximum height of the road was 1200m.
Road had been very quiet with about 1 car every half hour so amazed that the farm was buzzing on arrival, 3 coaches of students and two black Mercedes full of VIPS with body guards were all eating trout.
Crowds soon left and turned into a very tranquil scene, there are perhaps 20 people staying, either in RVs or in the cabins. I have checked the fish tanks and despite the lunch visitors there are still hundreds of trout left so am optimistic about supper.
Although there will be ups and downs tomorrow, I think I have now reached the maximum height
