Imagine Hannibal having to go to a baked potato restaurant
Like, that’s all they serve.
And they serve it buffet style. At the start of the line, a server in a hokey farmer’s outfit of overalls and a trucker cap festooned with styrofoam potatoes dishes up an approximately 12 ounce baked russet by smashing it onto a plate.
As you proceed through the line, you hold out your potato plate as servers sequentially pump out liquid butter, sour cream, and melted cheese. You are offered scoops of bacon bits or bac-o bits (for the vegetarians) and a confetti of chives. Are you feeling fancy? Well, on weekends they offer grilled mushrooms!
For an extra dollar, you can get a squirt of very smooth chili pumped onto your potato.
It used to be a serve yourself restaurant, but too many parents neglected to keep their children’s hands out of the sour cream vat and half of Baltimore came down with projectile E. Coli.
No wait. This place also serves the weakest beer. The restaurant is named
Suds-n-Spuds
Will takes him there on a date. Maybe it’s Hannibal’s birthday. The waitstaff gather around and grimly sing “happy spuds day to you… happy spuds day to you… happy spuds day dear (glances down at note) Annabell… happy spuds day to you.”
Do you still want him to be your murder husband, Hannibal?
Hey all! I want to try and make a dish from every US state (probably with a vegetarian/pescatarian spin on it) so after some Googling this is what the internet gave me from each. If you live or have lived in a US state comment to confirm or suggest your own. Or send me recipes! I looked at 5 or 6 lists so if there’s only one listed for a state I guess the collective internet is out of ideas. Also reach out if you live or have lived in Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, or the Northern Mariana Islands; these are US territories so I’m also interested what feels unique to your island too.
Alabama- Chicken with Wine & BBQ, Cheese grits, Pecan Pie, Southern Lane Cake
Note: This is special like when I wrote Obi Wan Kenobi a few days ago...there are some characters...that I don’t feel like I can add to. (Also like wow..I have read some amazing fics others have written also!) So in this case, I got inspired to write Renton having a moment with his...girl...reader so, I’m sharing. Enjoy!
Mark, had just grabbed a toastee, smothered it with butter and honey then put on some music. Stretched out on his thin carpeted floor, he ate his toastee and flung an arm over his eyes. Occasionally, he’d bounce his head in time with the music.
In his mind, he was remembering, when he met you. You were breath of fresh air. You were so different then anyone who had ever crossed his path.
He was having one of his moments, when he wanted to read. Having gone to the library, he left with a mini stack of books. Walking out the two of you literally bumped into each other.
Falling, for you instantly he was dazed with your face, those eyes that seemed to look on forever when you didn’t think anyone else notice and the gentle way your hair with a gentle breeze would blow into your eyes and you tuck it behind an ear.
That was two months ago, he desperately tried to be good for you.
There was a knock on his door. “Come in!” He hollered. At the moment, he was feeling too good to get up.
He peeked around the arm, he had long ago thrown over his eyes. He expected, to see Sick Boy or Spud. But it was you.
He sat up, “My heart, what are you doing here?”
You slipped out of your shoes. “Having a horrible day, needed to see you.” You managed to mumble. If he had not already gotten to know you, the way you swallowed words when you were upset made it almost impossible to understand.
It made him ill in the pit of his stomach as he saw you do small pacing of back and forth thing which resulted in you moving in a small circle. You were trying to physically move yourself away from your pain, when you did that he gathered.
That was you at your lows and he didn’t care he just wanted you to be happy again soaring and smiling among the clouds in a clear blue sky on a sunny day.
“Com ‘ere my darling.” He spread out his arms.
You didn’t need to be asked twice. He wrapped his arms around and then wrapped a leg around you as well. He held you tight. Your perfume was refreshing and sweet.
Some tears and deep breaths came from you as he held you. Gently, he reached up, let his fingers run through your soft strands. He kissed the top of your head. “It’s alright I am here. I am here.” He whispered.
Later, much later after the gray clouds had lifted. You finally told him about your day and swim in the darker side of your nature. He shook his head, he hated hearing how things would drag you into the shadows of despair.
Finally, getting up he met your eyes and gave you a small smile as he rocked from one foot to another. “Let’s go out heart.” You looked up, from where you sat crossed legged. “We’ll dance, maybe see the boys have a good laugh and come back here and cuddle.” He smiled broader when your lips finally curled into one. Going over to you, he held out his hands to help you get up.
“There’s my pretty girl.” He cooed, as he tucked some strands of hair behind your ear.
Food in Brian Jacques’ Redwall Series: The Redwall Cookbook
Food mentioned in the Redwall series! This is entirely for fanfic/headcanon purposes but will be fun!
Note: The eating of sentient creatures happens in Redwall, but I’m not including it here, because people are not food. Eating rabbit, pigs, sparrows, etc. as Cluny does would not count under this, as rabbits are sentient and the pigs are described as such by Methuselah. Seafood is not sentient and, as it’s uncertain whether gastropods like snails are, I have included those here. Birds are sentient though (as are at least some insects like bees and dragonflies) and so will not be listed. Cattle and horses exist as non-sentient livestock, but no mention is given of eating them. I also did not list food mentioned generally (’fruit’, ‘vegetables’, ‘grain’ etc.) unless it was part of a larger meal.
I may have missed a few mentions - feel free to let me know if I have!

Dolly Parton Never Breaks Her Diet, Except When You're Serving This (and We Can Relate)
Let’s face it: Dieting is hard. Some break their diets due to sweets. For others, alcohol and pizza (otherwise known as ‘Football Season’) are reasons for falling off the wagon. But Dolly Parton’s Achilles heel where counting calories is concerned might surprise you. Apparently, the award-winning singer-songwriter will forget just about any diet when it comes to the potato — and we can relate!
Dolly loves her potatoes.
Although Dolly Parton is exceptional in so many ways, she, too, is human and can likely relate to our dieting woes. Recently, the star admitted that her reason for falling off the diet wagon always comes down to one thing, and that thing is a potato. “I never met a spud I didn’t like,” Dolly joked in her Wired Autocomplete Interview on YouTube.
“Every diet I’ve ever fallen off of it’s been because of a potato, either french fries or mashed potatoes or baked potatoes,” the singer claims. Don’t we know it! Who doesn’t love a delicious potato recipe?
What is Dolly’s normal diet?
Dolly Parton has revealed that she typically follows an 80/20, or “weekend diet” lifestyle when it comes to her eating habits, which means that she’ll eat healthy foods 80 percent of the time and leave 20 percent for guilty pleasures. According to Dolly, these extend beyond just potatoes to the southern roots-style foods she grew up with: cornbread, roast pork with green beans and fried okra, and banana pudding included!
But the singer-songwriter also knows to have some grace for herself when she falls off the diet wagon, and we think this is because the artist has so much self-awareness, self-love, and self-respect. (If you’re wondering about her most recent show of this, read up on her decision to bow out of the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame induction.)
If we can say one good thing about Dolly — and really we can say a million of them! — it’s that she knows what works for her and what doesn’t.
Dolly’s favorite diet-breaker is sold as a candy, too.
If you ever visit Dollywood, you’ll see evidence of Dolly’s love of the spud — there are potato dishes of all kinds available at every meal if you want them, even dessert. No, it’s not sweet potato pie. It’s potato candy, which is a recipe that originated in the South during the Great Depression. Originally made from peanut butter, powdered sugar, and mashed potatoes, it was an easy and affordable treat with Appalachian history. Maybe that’s why Parton made sure it was available at her theme park. For the Dollywood original recipe, see the video below:
Whether it’s sweet or traditionally savory, the potato will never go out of style. Thank goodness for that, we say. And we think Dolly would agree.
