Thinkin about how Elena in TVD went on to become a doctor and how Tom Avery (Stefan’s doppelgänger) was a paramedic in Atlanta which means if Stefan/Damon never came into her life, Elena could’ve moved from mystic falls to Atlanta, GA to intern at a hospital where she’d eventually meet and fall in love with Tom Avery instead of all the fucked up shit that ended up happening.

#this is not Stelena/Delena hate #it’s just that when you think about it this is what should’ve happened right?#I know that in that one season Stefan and Elena kept having those weird dreams bc technically they were soulmates #but if you really think about it the doppelgängers whole reason for existing were bc of Silas and Amara #ignoring the vampire parts of it that means that Tatia should’ve also had a doppelgänger soulmate that was alive during HER TIME #same as Katherine and Stefan #it’s been a bit so maybe I’m missing/forgetting something but #when you ignore the fact that Katherine became a vampire and the turned Stefan and Damon who found Elena all those decades laters #without their interference wouldn’t Elena and Tom eventually find/be with each other #I’m also aware that’s not how it always works but in my defense AGAIN if vampires failed to exist OR #if The Originals were turned by anyone else’s blood (and ya know not Tatia’s)#Katherine would’ve never been on the run from Klaus when she was mortal which means she’d never be turned #which means neither would Stefan/Damon #again correct me if I’m wrong but Elena could’ve lived out a normal life with Tom like (from what I remember) she was destined to #it’s just weird to think about #tvd #the vampire diaries #m speaks

shipping is already a nightmare but the insistence on the importance of "canon" and "endgame" has made existing in fandom spaces downright unbearable

I think there is always hope that they may be able to find their way back to each other but that that is quite a different question from whether or not a romantic relationship between them is doomed.

Another for @ruthseriouslydothis. Set after season three. Elijah and Rebekah take Klaus are a family again because I won’t let plot get in the way of my smut. I started it before season four started so no sire bond. Stefan and Elena reconfigure their relationship as D/s with Elena as the dom. Also Bonnie and Stefan become closer. I’m actually almost done with it and will finish it before I die.

Nothing smutty. Stefan messes up by disobeying a big rule (don’t tell Damon about Stelena D/s until Elena say so.) Elena is Unhappy.

Then she was right in front of him, grabbing his chin and forcing him to look at her. "Did you ever think about why I didn't want you to tell Damon?" Stefan tensed. "Did you think I just picked these rules at random?"

She wasn't bruising him. She wasn't yelling at him. Her movements and her words were precise. Elena Gilbert had known exactly what kind of deal she was making with Elijah that year and a lifetime ago because she was almost as careful and calculating as he was.

And so it dawned on him. "You've thought about this before."

"Not like you have," Elena said. "But I was able to come up with these rules within a few hours for a reason."

Stefan tried to adjust what he knew about her, about them. "How long?"

"Since Chicago," Elena said shortly. "Answer my questions."

Stefan pressed his palms onto the bed behind his back. "I know you put thought into the rules." Stefan hadn't wondered why things fell into place so quickly, he'd been too busy being grateful that it was happening. "My best guess for you not wanting me to tell Damon is that you wanted us to tell him together when the time was right."

"Yes, Stefan," Elena said and she jerked away and across the room to pick up the notebook. "Damon is possessive of you. And feels threatened when he thinks I'm taking his place in your life. And, when Damon feels threatened, he lashes out."

Stefan watched her move as he tried to grasp the idea that Damon was possessive of him.
