@neanderthal-pessimist
Babe, you asked about Danny's suicidal thoughts/attempt so here it is.
In 1x18 there is a moment when Danny and Steve have a talk with FBI guys and later, when boys are alone, Danny is devastated by the news about Matt's financial crimes and Steve's "what if Matt is really guilty?". Danny wants Steve to have faith in Matt (or: Danny tries to still believe in his own brother, he wants to be loyal) and there's his confession.
Very dark and painful confession: once Danny thought about suicide (and I guess/interpret that he TRIED to kill himself - and that's why Matt was always there, was there almost 24/7).
Why? Because of damn Rachel. No, it wasn't because of the divorce (he could live without her, he would be happier without her and his mental health would be much better when she's away from him). It was because of Rachel's plays. GRACIE. She used Grace against Danny, she wanted to ruin his fatherhood. She took Grace away from him and was like "You'll lose her, Daniel. I swear" ("I'll punish you, Daniel"). Once she and her mother behaved in toxic and abusive way towards Danny and then, after divorce, Rach ruined Danny's mind again. She knew well what would hurt him, what would really hurt him. She knew well that Grace was Danny's everything. Danny's forever-love. Rach knew where to hit so she hit.
So in 1x18 we can see all Danny's pain. All painful memories. It's a double pain cause it's about Gracie and now also about Matty. Matty saved him. We can say about Matt many things but yeah, he saved Danny's life. He helped Danny to be strong again. He helped him to fight for Gracie. Danny almost lost Grace, almost lost his life (literally and metaphorically) and in this moment he fears that he will lose his brother - a brother who helped him so much.
Gosh, Steve's face. He's shocked. He's terrified. He tries to stay calm but he can't - he's shaking inside. His Danny, his beloved Danny, his angel, best friend, his best human ever, sunshine of his life... Danny almost died. Almost killed himself. Danny. Suicide, fuck. Yes, Steve understands Danny's loyalty and love for Matthew BUT THIS. SUICIDE. Steve can't think about Matt now. He is focused on Danny. On Danny's old pain. He can't believe that his boy tried, thought... His strong, "there's always hope" boy... Fuck. No. God, why? Why Danny had to suffer? Why Danny has to suffer? Oh, Steve knows well that part of the pain is still there - cause Rachel still wants war. She is still mean to Danny. Her smile can't hide it. Steve knows her. He observes. He listens to Danny and believes Danny, not her.
Steve is pissed off. He was pissed off earlier when he saw Rachel's games. When he heard Danny's bitter words, Danny's fears. But now Steve has such a face like... It's the face "I wanna go back to the restaurant and...". Shout at Rachel. Tell her that she's the worst. Gosh, Steve looks here like he wants to punch her. He can't do this, he knows (plus: he doesn't want to ruin Danny's fatherhood). But in his mind he is punching her. He is shouting at her (well, maybe one day he will tell her, one day he will punch her with his bitter words, one day when Danny and Grace are safe).
Steve is here (and always will be) for Danny. He touches him. This touch is like a touch of guardian angel. And in the end he is looking at Danny and there's so much love and concern in Steve's eyes. Rachel can't hurt Danno anymore, no fucking way, he thinks.
It's such a strong scene. Danny opens his heart. Oh yes, Steve is the only one - Danny lets only him to know. To know about the darkest moment in Danny's life. Danny knows that Steve will understand. That Steve will treat this seriously. Steve is like him. And Steve is the opposite of Rachel. There's no shame, Danny. Steve loves you. Your pain is his pain. All what is yours is his.
I love that they're together SO MUCH. They're together so it will be all right. They're strong together. So strong.
I'm not a fan of Matt but it's so good that Danny had him around. Matt saved Danny and all what he did for him as a brother... It's touching. It's beautiful. All that beer, all those talks, all this time... Thank you, Matthew Williams. You saved an angel.
But... I can't believe that this Matt, this Matt that saw his brother's pain, deepest depression, that witnessed Danny's suicidal attempt... Why the hell Matt still tries to be nice (SO nice) to Rachel? Why the hell he wants her around Danny? (and Grace) Why the hell he invited Rachel for his family dinner with Danny and Grace? Why the hell he told Danny "You love Rachel, I see this"?! Why the hell he behaves like he wants to see Danny and Rachel together again (knowing well about Danny's pain and seeing well how much Steve means to Danny)? Why sometimes he behaves like HE is in love with Rach? (well, sometimes she looks at him like "I chose the wrong brother" so... hmm...).
And Rachel, geez. Why show's plot is on her side? Why no one sued her for what she did? She's guilty. She (and her mother) ruined Danny's mental health. After divorce she ruined Danny's mental health even more. Her toxic/destructive behaviour (and using Grace in her war against Danny) was the cause. Her behaviour and toxic deeds, her "I'll take Grace" pushed Danny to suicide attempt. Why didn't she face any consequences? Why are people still kind to her? Why the hell Grace lives with her? Where's "I'm sorry, Danny?" (oh, okay, there's no apology cause Hollanders are never sorry, right?).
Six months. SIX MONTHS! Six months full of deepest anxiety and depression. Six months WHOLE of that. Six months without light. Six months, for six months Matt tried to change Danny's mind. For six months there was a danger - that Danny would do it. I can imagine Matt's fear when he went to work and for those few hours per day Danny was there alone... Six months with darkest thoughts. And before and after that? Still dark. She made/makes Danny's life dark (and Steve's too, by the way).
Where's the law? Where's the justice for Danny? What an irony - he fights for other victims' justice but he as a victim got no justice.
Yeah, I know. Writers hated Danny. And Lenkov wanted Danny/Rachel so badly...
"I would not have gotten through that"
It hurts. It's blood-curdling. Danny, our bamf!Danny said that. It's generally scary to hear such words. To see other person's pain and feeling of total loss. Gosh, I can't 😭 This line kills me. It kills my heart.
(Thank you, Matthew for saving the life. Thank you, Steve for saving this life again. For giving Danny a real good life, safer and colourful. Life full of love).

Big idiot
Paring: Steve McGarrett x Latina!Reader
Summary: You always knew that Steve was a reckless idiot. One that you couldn't help but adore; however, sometimes you don't know what to do when he tries to hid things from you.
A/N: This take place in season 1 episode 24. There is some mild use of Spanish. It's not much but I hope you guys enjoy it. Much love
Tumblr media
"You, my friend," Danny's voice could be heard as the front door opened. "Are an idiot. " A smile pulled at my lips as I wiped my hands on a kitchen towel.
"This again?" Steve groaned, and I bit back a small laugh. "Danno, how many times have we gone through with this? My methods are efficient."
"Efficient?" Danny exclaimed. "Please, they are crazy. "
"You boys arguing again?" I left the kitchen and saw them standing close to the door. They both looked at me as I smiled at them, amused. "What happened this time?" I titled my head to the side and placed my hands on my hips.
"Y/N," Danny pointed at Steve, "A rational person who will agree with me." Steve ignored Danny's comment as he smiled at me. A twinkle in his blue-green eyes as he took three sizable strides, closing the gap between us.
"Hey there, beautiful." His hands found their way around my waist, and he pulled me close.
"Hola, handsome." I could hear a groan from Danny as I placed a quick kiss on Steve's cheek. "Now, why is Danny calling you crazy this time?"
"He's exaggerating." Steve pulled me to his side as he turned to look at Danny. He tilted his head a bit as he gave him a look. I noticed the frown that settled on Danny's lips.
"Is he now?" I raised an eyebrow as I looked back at Steve. "Danny, why is this man an idiot?" I stepped forward and out of Steve's hold as I looked back at Danny. He looked at me with his light blue eyes before he glanced behind me at the man who reached out for me; his fingers lightly touched my arm. He quickly avoided my gaze as he looked down a bit.
"Angel," Steve called for my attention, and that was how I knew this wasn't good. Whatever his idea was, he didn't want me to know.
"Danny," I wasn't going to budge. Steve wasn't going to tell me. He would brush it off, and Danny was the only one who would tell me out of the two. "I'm not gonna ask again."
"He wants to break into the Governor's mansion." Danny's voice was quiet that I barely missed what he was saying. I stood there as I felt their gaze on me and tried to process my thoughts. Process what Danny just said. I bit the inside of my cheek as everything started to make sense.
Steve had been on the edge ever since he started to receive those envelopes. Envelopes that were filled with the evidence his father had left him. Evidence that linked to his father's death. I took a deep breath before I nodded slightly. "I-" I cleared my throat, trying to figure out what to say. Did I have the right to say anything? Steve and I had only been together for six months. "Danny, would you like some fruit?" I decided to change the topic. "I was in the process of cutting the fruit if you like some." I brushed past Steve as I went back to the kitchen. I picked up the knife and returned to cutting half the watermelon I had left. I could hear their soft voices before Danny awkwardly came into the kitchen. He picked at the fruit before he placed a kiss on the side of my head.
"I'm gonna head out," He glanced behind me, and I kept cutting the watermelon. "I gotta do something." He snatched another piece, and I shook my head.
"Here," I looked through the cabinets and pulled out a Tupperware. "Take some with you." He gave me a small smile as I filled it with the mixture of fruit I had cut. "Yo no lo necesito todo. (I don't need it all)" I had been in the craving mood for some, feeling as if the day would end well.
"Thank you," He pulled me into a hug. "You are the best." I gave him a small smile and handed him the container before going back to cutting the bit of watermelon I had left. I was a little too into my thoughts as Danny's words repeated.
"Hijo de puta, (Son of a bitch)" I hissed as I pulled a finger back in pain. The blood slowly started to form around the cut on my finger as I brought it to my mouth.
"Are you okay?" Steve rushed into the kitchen, and I nodded. He pulled my finger out as he looked at my wound before dragging me to the bathroom. "Sit tight. Let me get the first aid kit." He glanced at the wound again as I sat on the toilet seat. He opened the mirror and pulled out the small first aid kit on the lower shelf. I stayed quiet as he moved to sit on the side of the tub. He grabbed my hand and began to work on it. "This might sting a bit." He mumbled as he opened the saline solution cloth and gently wiped the wound. I winced a bit but allowed him to clean the wound. It was quiet between us as he rubbed in some Neosporin and wrapped a band-aid around it.
"Thank you," I said softly as I watched him gently rub the band-aid. He looked up at me and sighed.
"Talk to me." He hooked his finger under my chin and had me meet his gaze. His thumb touched my lower lip as he held eye contact with me. His eyes searched my face, almost begging me to talk to him. To say something. I took a deep breath before closing my eyes.
"I don't like the idea of you breaking into the Governor's," I said softly. "You're doing something dangerous, Steve." I opened my eyes as I began to think of all the possible outcomes of his doing this. None of it went well.
"I have to do this." He cupped my cheeks, and I leaned into his touch. "Something is not right here, and I must find out." I couldn't help but frown as I placed my hands over his.
"I understand that amor," I bit my lower lip. "I understand that you need answers, pero why did you try to hide it from me?"
"To protect you." He answered back as he placed a soft kiss on my lips. "I didn't want you to worry about me, and I didn't want you to be in danger." He moved and placed a kiss on my forehead.
"Eres un idiota. (You're an idiot)" I pulled away from his touch. "You can't keep hiding things from me." I tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear. "If this relationship is going to work, I need you to be honest with me. I understand that there are things you won't always be able to tell me, but I need to know what you can." I held his hands in mine as I looked down at them. "I can handle myself, but what will you do when I chase after you because you didn't tell me what you were doing?" The corner of his lips tugged downwards.
"I'm sorry." He held my hands tightly before he brought them up to his lips. He placed a kiss on the back of my knuckles. "You're right. No more secrets." He promised with another kiss on the back of my hand.
"You do what you have to do," I moved to cup his cheeks. "I will be here waiting for you to come back to me. That's all I ask for is that you return to me no matter where you go or what you do."
"I can do that." He flashed me a smile, which I returned with one of my own. " I will always do everything I can to return to you."
"Good." I moved forward and kissed him. His smile grew against my lips, and he pulled me into his lap. A laugh left his lips as I let out a slight surprised noise. "Steve!" I lightly smacked his shoulder before shaking my head at him. His beautiful ocean-blue eyes gleamed with contentment as the green specks seemed to glow a little more. He held me tightly by my waist as he looked up at me. I moved my arms around his shoulders and ran my fingers through his neck.
"You look beautiful today." His fingers moved up my shirt, touching the slightly exposed skin.
"Don't even think about it, buddy." I patted his shoulder as I pushed myself off his lap. "You're not gonna get that lucky today." He raised an eyebrow and tilted his head to the side as if this was a challenge for him. I shook my head and moved away from his touch, which caused him to stand up. "Steve, I'm serious." I pointed a finger at him and took a step back. He gave me that smile as if he wouldn't take me seriously. "Please," I gave him a slight pout, "I prepared some food so we could enjoy it."
"Only because you asked so nicely." He raised his hand as if he was giving to my demands. I smiled as I held his hand out to him.
"I had a huge craving for something fruity," He took my hand as I pulled him with me to the kitchen. "And I think I might have gone too overboard on the shopping." I could hear the small laugh he let lose from his nose as he took in the fruit I had yet to cut.
"Little?" He raised an eyebrow. I smiled as I bit my lip and plopped a mango into my mouth. I shrugged and held a melon up to his lips. He didn't fight it as he opened his mouth and took the piece. He let out a slight hum as he nodded.
"Good, right?" He reached for another piece. He mumbled as he shoved the other piece in his mouth. "So worth it then." I took a strawberry and bit into it; a small moan left my lips as the sweetness of the strawberry filled my tastebuds. Steve pulled me into a kiss, and I didn't fight him as I moved my arms around his neck. I pushed myself up on my tippy toes and leaned into him. I hummed into the kiss as I felt his tongue touch mine as he deepened the kiss. He pulled back and smiled as I clung to him.
"Definitely worth it." He winked at me. I bit my lip and shook my head as I pushed him away.
"You're a big idiot." I plopped the rest of the strawberry in my mouth.
"Your big idiot." He took another fruit.

During my h50 fast-forward rewatch I couldn't help but stopping on this very scene, because I'm sure the subtext is powerful here. It's all about subtext. It actually gives you the chills to read, now, comments written on fanfics dealing with this specific episode, because so many of us were damn sure Steve was foreshadowing his death because of radiation poisoning (which, honestly? Would've made sense, so damn sense, considering the framing of this scene. And it wouldn't have left such a HUGE plotline open. Not that I want Steve dead at the end of s10, but you know....consistency...).
Anyway I tried to read this scene in a different light, knowing that Steve already knew he was thinking about taking a leave, going away from Hawai’i, finding himself, and he didn’t know how to tell Danny. Danny who already KNEW something was wrong, something was afoot, and Steve was definitely fucked up.
Don't focus on Steve, here, nor on his words — because now it's clear, so damn clear and painfully obvious he's not talking about sunsets: you get sunsets everywhere (even in Montana, while your father-figure is dying in your arms...and fuck you all if now sunsets will always be a cliche metaphor for death), so it's not really like you'll miss these specific Hawaiian sunsets. The only sun, the only sunshine he's ever had in his life is Danny. His Danno. So the only thing he'll miss, truly miss, while he searches for answers around the globe, will be his Danno. And that’s why he's so ready to agree when Danny tells him to visit New Jersey. He's basically telling Danny that even if he's the constant in his life, he's never taken him for granted, and that he's the thing he'll miss the most.
No. I'm not focusing on the obvious, here.
I'm seeing only this: Danny's face in the third gif. That's not a relaxed, tired, maybe annoyed-at-the-impromptu-feelings-dumping face you'd expect. He's just told Steve he's there for him, whatever he needs to say or talk about. Dammit, he's asked Steve to confess what's tormenting him!
No. Look at the strained lines around his eyes. Look at his furrowed brow. Look at his grimace, barely restrained.
Don't forget Danny's a detective. A hell of a good detective. By those seemingly innocent words alone, he's already understood Steve is going away. Maybe he only feels it in his guts — but he knows he's going to lose Steve. And that’s exactly why, in answer to Steve's heartfelt, gloomy words, all Danny can do is draw from his most reliable coping mechanism: joke. He jokes about squirrels and dinner. Because he doesn't known, literally has no clues, how to cope with the idea that his main dude is leaving him.
Danny knew Rachel was going to divorce him the day they married. He knows.

Are you wifi?
Author’s Note: As a celebration of the return of my creativity. And as this is one of my stories which still gets a lot of love, I wanted to give "Are you Cinderella?" a part 2.
Can’t believe this one is from 2018. Time flies.
Enjoy!
Love,
Lis
A couple days after your spontaneous Pick-up-Line challenge, you were all on a lookout. While you and Danny were in a car together and Chin and Kelly as well. Steve was with Lou. You were all just talking about Valentins Day, and how horrible they went for most of you.
“Maybe Danny could have used some of the pick-up lines that we heard a few days ago.” Chin chimed in, making everyone laugh, you even more when you not only heard Dannys groan but saw him through his head back against the seat.
“Please don’t remind them.” Danny said.
“Oh, I heard of the best ones.” Lou chimed in.
“I have some of my one, you know.” He adds, and all of you could hear the smirk in his voice.
“No, Lou. Now is not the time.” Danny retorts at the same time as you say “Oh please, tell us.” The other also encouraging him.
“My wifes favourite was `I'd like to take you to the movies, but they don't let you bring in your own snacks.’” Lou says, making everyone crack up.
“I like it a bit more smooth, so my favorite is ‘Is it OK if I follow you out of here? My parents always told me to follow my dreams.’” He continues, causing everyone to ohh and ahh.
“I heard a new one, from a friend the other night. ‘Your middle name must be Gillette. Because you're the best a man can get!’” Chin chims in.
“What? That’s really just awful.” Kelly replies, but laughs nonetheless.
“Hey Steve.” You say, making Danny groand already, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Yeah?” Steves answers.
“Know what's on the menu tonight?”
“What?” he says, and you can hear the Kelly can barely hold it together.
“Me-N-U.”
Everyone burst out laughing.
“Hey baby?” Steve says.
“Yes.” You answer, smiling and looking at Danny.
“Don’t look at me like that. I don’t want to hear it.” He says.
“Are you wi-fi? Cause I'm totally feeling a connection.” Steve says anyway.
While everyone still chuckles, Danny looks at you.
“What? Smile Danno. It’ll do you good.” You say, nudging his shoulder.
“You think the one I have would have helped me with Melissa?” he asks you, making you gasp.
“Please Danno, let us hear it.” Steve says, everyone being completely silent, waiting on Danny’s line.
“If I had to rate you from 1 to 10, I'd give you a 9, because I'm the 1 you're missing.” He finally says.
Everyone whistles and Lou says “That’s even smoother than mine.” Followed by many “wow Danny.”’s by the others.
You take his hand and look him in the eyes. “Danny… That line?” you asks, making him hum, looking at you. “That would have been 100% better than what you gave her.” You say, bursting into a laugh, while Danny tries to tickle you.

Paradise Undone| 1| S. McGarrett
Summary: Gracie isn’t the only reason why Danny Williams relocated to Hawaii, his youngest sister Emily is a nurse in the navy and is stationed at Pearl Harbor and is in an on again off again fling with Steven McGarrett.
His new partner. And Danny is dead set on keeping them apart as much as he wanted his sister happy, the last person he wanted her to be with was Steve McGarrett
@prettyinpayne @marycorleone
This wasn’t the first time that Emily Williams had been asked to come see her brother Danny, a police detective first with the New York Police department and now with the Honolulu police department, to patch him up and it wouldn’t be the last but this was the first time that the man she had been sleeping with on and off with was sitting on the rolling chair next to the desk. “Shit.” She cursed herself before she stepped into the office, “Danno? What did you do now?” Danny, who had been lecturing Steve, paused and smiled seeing her. “It was all him Em.” Emily finally met Steve’s dark eyes and was glad to see the surprise in them. The last time they had seen each other, they had been in Japan and she was getting ready to ship back out to the states.
“And who is he?”
Danny was oblivious to the uneasy stare between the two, he was eager to start another long bitching session about his new partner and his sister usually listened. “Steve McGarrett.” Danny asked as she started looking at the wound on his shoulder.
“As in the McGarrett case?” She glanced over at Steve who was putting two and two together, Emily had told him stories about her siblings, especially her stuffy older brother.
“Yeah. He got me shot Em? Can you believe that?” The older Williams sibling questioned turning his head to watch his sister work.
“Not really, you got held hostage before, and had to have knee surgery after that case with Libby went wrong. So this doesn’t surprise me at all.” She answered, “didn’t you have the paramedics look at this?” “Why? When I have a nurse on speed dial?” Danny asked, “Em here is in the navy too but her contract is up soon.”
“Oh yeah?” Steve asked, folding his arms, eyes never leaving the siblings, curious. Emily was the exact opposite of his new partner, she had always been quick to laugh and enjoy herself while Danny wasn't that.
“Supposedly she wants to stay. God knows why.”
“Three things Danno, beach, warm weather and you and Gracie.” Emily paused as she opened an alcohol wipe, “and there is no Clara,” Clara was their mother who along with their two sisters Bridgett and Stella were very interested in when Emily was going to settle down and have kids.
“That is our mother.” Danny started before wincing when she dug her gloved thumb into the wound in annoyance . “I know that Daniel but she doesn’t harp on you. “When are you going to have kids Emily? You are such a young and pretty girl.”
Unable to help himself Steve coughed out a laugh, he had heard that impression one too many times which caused Emily to laugh. “Do you two know each other?” Danny asked after a heartbeat, “you can’t know each other.”
“We know each other.” They both answered.
“No, no Emily! Wait, this isn’t the guy you shacked up with in Cuba is it?” Emily pressed her lips together in a tight line so she wouldn’t start laughing outright.
“Emily Anne! Tell me the truth.”
“No comment.” she risked a glance over to Steve who was studying her every movement. “Do you need me to pick up Gracie after school?” Being able to have a relationship with her niece was part of the reason why she jumped on being stationed at Pearl Harbor.
“Emily! Tell me the truth.” Danny had glossed over her question like she had expected him too and he was furious. Like Matthew, their brother, he was fiercely over protective of Emily and their other sisters.
“Yes, okay?” she snapped back as she started bandaging the wound. “But you have no room to talk, Daniel. You are the one who ended up marrying someone you pulled over.” Another quiet laugh escaped Steve, he had heard all about her brother’s ex-wife after she found out that she had filed for divorce causing a smile to twitch on the corner of her mouth. “You told a total stranger about my personal life?”
The younger Williams sibling smiled then, “Well yeah, he's a good listener and I had to have someone to talk to. And I was not going to use the satellite phone to call Clara.”
Groaning Danny dropped his chin to his chest, “You two are going to put me in an early grave.”
“Don't be so dramatic Danny.” Emily rolled her eyes, “We both know that it will be Rachel and step Stan.”
“Step Stan?” Steve stepped in, unable to help himself, now that he was putting faces with names, things started making sense and he wanted to try and diffuse the situation mostly for Emily’s sake.
“Rachel's new husband. He seems nice.” The younger sibling returned. “You only say that because he tried to buy your affection too.” Steve and Emily exchanged a look with furrowed brows. “Are you still bitter that I attended the wedding for Gracie’s sake?” Danny huffed as he stood up and went into one of the glass offices. “Grace begged and pleaded for me to go, I was on leave.” she informed as she started gathering up the used supplies to throw them away, “I tried to talk Rachel out of it, including offering to be her getaway driver.” “Does he know that?” Emily shook her head, “He wouldn't listen, probably never will.”

This is 100% pandering for probably me :')
I am absolutely feral for Simon, and Steve is 100% the kinda guy to have friends (well he doesn't think of them as friends because Steve doesn't have friends, but Danny is working on that with him) all over the world, and if they need help? He's got your back :)
---------------
They all drive on the wrong side of the road here.
It's the first thing Simon thinks when he steps out of the airport, duffel bag readjusted as he scans the cars coming in and out of the pick up zone. The heat isn't as suffocating as it was back home, the Australian almost wondering if he was going to need some sort of sweater when a silver camaro pulls up just in front of him.
"Always on time eh?" The taller man who piles out of the car just chuckles, moving to help scoop up the other bags piled behind where Simon had been standing up and into the luggage rack attached on top.
"Pretty sure my commanding officer would appear from thin air if I wasn't."
"Probably not, but thanks all the same, McGarrett."
"Don't mention it. Come on, my place isn't far and you look like you need a day to just blackout."
"Tell me about it mate." Simon climbed into the passenger seat, sinking back with a relieved groan. "Forgot how much I hate flying."
"Well, you're not going anywhere anytime soon, so no more worries for now." The SEAL slipped back into the driver's seat after making sure everything was secured, and soon the duo were driving out and into the island after some minor traffic.
"Mate, the pictures you've sent don't do this place justice." Simon whistled, taking in the area while digging out his phone to take a short video. Steve just smiled to himself while turning on the radio, the occasional crow from the Aussie beside him breaking the amicable silence between them.
"Do you mind if I swing by work to grab something real quick?" Finally distracted with taking videos and pictures, Simon glanced over with a shrug.
“I’m not bitin’ to go anywhere, s’long as we can get some brekkie afterwards.”
“It’s 14:00, but I know a few people who can hook you up, my treat.”
“That’ll work.” Simon’s back popped a little bit as he stretched, eyeing some of the older buildings with an interested hum. The police department they pull up to is no different, Steve pausing for a moment when Simon got out alongside him. “Need to stretch is all.”
“C’mon, you can meet the gang.”
“Is your Danno bloke there?” Simon grinned, catching the way Steve’s head jerked in surprise. “What?”
“He’s not my Danno…” The SEAL grumbled as they headed up and into the building, the Aussie eyeing the station up and amused to find it wasn’t too different from his own once you stepped inside. Desks from 1975, coffee machines that barely ran as such, and desk chairs that probably needed to have been thrown out ages ago, Simon shakes his head in amusement as Steve takes him into an area that was finally part of modern times. He can see a small group huddled around some sort of central monitor station, a shorter blonde man waving his arms around while he explains something Simon can’t quite catch until they’re within range.
“Did I miss something?” Steve interrupted the blonde, who shot him an annoyed look before catching sight of Simon.
“Yes you did, and who is this?” The accent made Simon smile a bit, and he stepped forward with a wave.
“You’re Danno right?” The look Danno shot Steve would have sent just about anyone running, but the other just smiles a bit before heading for his office while pulling out his phone.
“Detective Danny Williams. So, c’mon, name.” Danny waved for Simon to speak, clearly sizing the Aussie up. Simon doesn’t get a chance to open his mouth before the woman beside Danny nudged his side hard enough to make the Jersey detective grunt.
"Before he hogs all the attention, I'm Officer Kono Kalakaua." Kono grinned, offering a hand to give Simon a firm handshake. "And that's my cuz Chin."
"Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly." The men across the table gave a small wave, and Simon clocked him as probably one of the calmer team members. "Nice to meet you."
"Likewise, I've heard only good things about you lot." Simon waved back, aware that Danny was still staring at him. "Detective Senior Constable Simon Joyner, nice to meet ya.” Simon flashes his biggest smile, and the grumpy blonde softens just a fraction.
For a moment blonde hair turns black, pale skin sunkissed, and Simon can let himself be selfish for a moment before the familiar image fades in the blink of an eye.
“Fancy title, but nice to see another cop ‘round here. Four of us might finally outrank the super SEAL, which I’m curious to know exactly how you know him?” Danny crossed his arms as he leaned back against the monitor, the movement more relaxed rather than cautionary.
“Uh, well I nearly ran over ‘im when he and some of his buddies were celebratin’ something.” Simon let out a slightly embarrassed laugh, noting quite a few eyes looking over at Steve in his office, the man looking slightly confused at all the looks as he spoke on the phone. “Stevie remembered me, tracked me down somehow, and treated me to drinks as thanks for making sure he and his lot got back to their hotel.”
“Stevie? Since when can anyone call him Stevie, because I sure as hell can’t call him Stevie.” Danny complained, earning a few chuckles from the other two who had been watching most of this in amusement.
"Didn't know he was one of them fancy American soldiers, and we just kept in touch after that." Simon hummed, stretching a little bit with a slight wince.
"So are you visiting then?"
“Uh, sorta?” Simon shrugged, “Always been meanin’ to catch up with Stevie, and nows a time as any.”
“In the middle of the holiday season?” Chin asked, and luckily Steve exited his office before Simon could squirm in discomfort.
“Simon, I’m ready to head out if you are.” The Aussie nodded, noting some files tucked under Steve’s arm. “Call if you guys need me.”
“Will do, now off with you.” Danny made a shooing motion. “Poor kid looks like he’s about to drop.”
“‘M not a kid…” Simon groused, but gave a cheerful wave as he and Steve headed back to the car, fighting back a few yawns. The island state was beautiful enough to keep the Australian alert enough as they eventually pulled to the stop outside a modest little home, Simon pilling out and glancing around with a low whistle.
“You’re set up here mate.”
“It’s nothing special.” Steve shrugged, grabbing the carry-on luggage. “I’ve got the guest bed set up, room has an attached shower.”
“Don’t mind if I do.” Simon grabbed whatever was left before following Steve inside, figuring he’d get the rest of his stuff later. “You lot need to worry about spiders here?”
“Uh a little bit, not as bad as what you’re used to.” Steve watched as Simon set his shoes upside down by the door before scanning the floor, quietly glad they didn’t have as much deadly wildlife here at home. The guest room was a decent size, the queen bed dressed with fresh sheets and a newly assembled set of dressers tucked in the corner. “If we need more let me know, and I’ll go pick up an extra set.”
“Nah I can make it work, this is too much already mate.” Simon dumped his backpack on the bed, clearly blown away by the generosity.
“Hey, I get it.” The meaning hung heavy in the air as Simon kept his eyes on the floor, and was glad that Steve was not one to press. “Need a drink or anything?”
“No, I’m fine.” He manages to scrounge up a strangled thing of a smile, and Steve places the two suitcases he’d carried in by the door before vanishing without a sound, the door closing with a soft click. Simon wastes no time pulling out a fresh set out lounge clothes and his travel bag before retreating to the bathroom.
The warm water did it’s job washing away the weariness of travel, and for a good minute Simon looks out the window that slowly fogs up, the crashing waves a small comfort. It’s not like back home, not the same sounds of Bondi that had filled many a happy afternoon, not what he heard with a certain kis-
Simon curses and flicks the water so it’s cold, and the sea vanishes behind the condensation as he finishes his shower and shuts the water off. He’s trembling a little when he dries off and slips on his comfort clothes, throwing his phone to charge on the bedside table before crawling under the sheets.
The waves are the last thing he hears before exhaustion finally takes hold, a blinding smile flashing in his mind's eye before Simon drifts into a dreamless sleep.

Incorrigible
You glanced up from your clipboard, abandoning your sketch of the team’s next pyramid formation at the sound of a small huff. Grace Williams dropped her custom drawstring cheer bag next to you, plopping down beside it.
“What’s up, monkey?” You tucked a strand of her pretty brown hair behind her ear, using the pet name you’d inadvertently picked up from spending so much time with her father. You had first met Danny at back-to-school night when Grace was in your seventh grade class. The two of you had bonded over your mutual love of his daughter, how intelligent and resilient she was and how she managed to stay positive despite ongoing changes in their family dynamic. As luck would have it, Grace happened to be in the cheer squad you volunteered to coach the following summer, and the three of you had been inseparable since.
“Danno and Uncle Steve are at Tripler again,” she grimaced, waiting for your reaction.
Your jaw tightened at the reference to the army medical center. Danny’s partner was a walking danger magnet, always getting him into life-threatening situations that you feared one day surgeries and stitches wouldn’t be sufficient to rectify.
The Navy SEAL was arrogant and headstrong, he refused to admit when he’d made a mistake, and he was the most gorgeous man you had ever laid eyes on.
You couldn’t stand Steve McGarrett.
Rolling your eyes but trying to mask your emotions- Grace loved her adoptive uncle and you didn’t want to mess with that- you stood and inclined your head toward the parking lot. “C’mon, we’ll wait for them at The Palace.”
Jumping up from her spot in the grass, Grace scurried to catch up with your long strides. “Can we-”
“Get Starbucks on the way?” you finished her question with a smile. She simply grinned in response, knowing you could never deny her when those sweet little dimples popped out and she turned those doe eyes up to level 10.
Over the past two years, you had come to love Grace as though she were your own daughter despite being just double her age now, at 30. Given the nature of her father’s work with Five-0, more often than not you were the one picking her up from school, spending evenings with her at Danny’s house at opposite ends of the kitchen table, Grace doing homework while you graded assignments. Unless she was at her mom and Stan’s, but that was another story.
You crawled your way along the drive-through, ordering a frap for the teen and coffees for yourself, Danny, and the nuisance Steve.
Taking a sip of your life-renewing cappuccino, you mentally tallied the number of hospital visits the two men had racked up this month alone, your annoyance with the SEAL growing with every mile on your odometer as you approached The Palace. By the time the glass doors opened revealing the partners in crime, you were charged up and raring for a fight.
“What did you do this time?” you demanded, staring McGarrett down, arms crossed and eyes narrowed.
“Why do you always assume I did something?” Steve asked, incredulous.
“It’s always you,” you, Danny, and Grace answered in unison, receiving an eye roll in response.
“Why do you insist on waiting here, huh?” he challenged you with that dumb smug face you swore he reserved just for you and interrogations. “Can’t you just drop Gracie here and get back to terrorizing local children?”
Your jaw dropped and his own twitched with mirth, having successfully gotten under your skin. “The only terror here is you, Steven.” His smirk quickly dropped into a frown. He hated when you called him Steven. “At least I don’t leave minors unattended in unsafe locations, unlike some people!”
“It was one time!” he defended himself, recalling the event that you were no doubt referencing. He had been helping Grace train for a marathon at her school and left her on the corner of his street to chase a car down on foot.
Granted it was his car, and it was being stolen, but still.
“And given that this place is literally teeming with cops, I think Gracie would be just fine here by herself for a bit.”
“One time is too many! And don’t act like you haven’t been attacked here or held hostage here before.” He opened his mouth to contradict you with some dumb excuse and you held a finger up, unwilling to hear it. “Also,” you flung your arm out to indicate the arsenal behind you, “a literal wall of very not safe weapons!”
“You know I wouldn’t touch that,” Grace offered gently, trying to calm you down.
Your heads snapped in her direction, both of you instructing, “You stay out of this!” She rolled her eyes in response, walking over to her dad to check out his newest stitches that would result in yet another cool scar.
“If you’re not going to be more careful yourself, at least don’t get Danny involved,” you demanded for the umpteenth time. “He’s always coming home with scrapes and scratches and the occasional GSW. I have to keep a suture kit in the guest bathroom because of you!”
Steve tried to hide the smile that came to his face at your use of the cop jargon, disguising his delight by swiping a hand over his face in feigned irritation. He would never in a million years say it out loud, but your mouth looked so pretty when you were mad, your anger usually directed at him. He couldn’t help but think about how pretty your mouth would look turned up in a smile, or kissing his own, or around his-
What were you talking about again? Sutures.
“It’s good practice,” he shrugged, standing with his legs spread wide and his arms crossed, a dominant stance that would’ve made your knees weak had you not been so rigid with pent up anger. “Keeps your fingers nimble. You’re welcome.”
“What is the matter with you?” you exclaimed, beyond exasperated. “Were you dropped on your head as a baby or something?” You were vaguely aware of Danny muttering Been saying that for years, but your attention was trained solely on Steve’s stupid crossed arms and the stupid way his stupid veins were bulging out of his stupid biceps.
“You,” he looked down at you with that goddamn smug face of his and you resisted the urge to kiss him punch him, “are annoying.”
“Yeah? Well, you- You’re incorrigible!”
“What, you think you’re gonna win cause you use big words? Oh great, yeah, gold star for Y/N."
“Don’t think about it too hard, your head might explode.”
“Don’t you have homework to grade?”
“Don’t you have municipal property to destroy?”
“Oh, get a room you two!” Grace yelled, fed up with your quibbling.
All three adults’ heads swiveled in her direction and her cheeks flushed.
“Why does my daughter, my sweet, innocent, perfect little monkey, know that phrase?” Danny turned his attention on you, head cocked in a challenge.
Grace made panicked eye contact with you because she definitely hadn’t learned it from marathoning Sex and the City with you. Definitely not.
“She’s fifteen, Danny,” you gently reminded your friend that despite his denial of her growing up, it was happening whether he liked it or not- and covering your own ass simultaneously. “Anyway, I should get going.”
You lovingly tweaked Grace’s nose and kissed Danny’s cheek in goodbye, slapping McGarrett’s arm as you passed by and holding back a gasp at the feeling of rock hard muscle beneath your fingertips.
“Yeah, you walk away!” he called out to your retreating form, and you could hear the infuriating smirk that was no doubt adorning his annoyingly handsome face.
Refusing to take the bait, you yelled, “I’ve got more important things to do than stand around arguing with you all day, Steven!”
Like angrily fantasizing about his muscles rippling beneath your hands as you-
Nope. Not going there.
_______
Hours later, you were seated on the floor of your apartment in front of your couch, trying and failing to focus on the stack of papers before you. You couldn’t stop thinking about the way Steve’s eyes would light up when you hurled a clever insult at him or ignore the fact that your fingertips still felt like they were on fire from touching his bare skin.
Fucking hormones.
You debated texting your best friend, but what would you even say? Hey Danno, I don’t hate Steve, I’ve just actually got the hots for him didn’t seem to cut it.
Another hour and a glass of wine later, you decided you couldn’t take it anymore, snatching up your keys and driving over to his house before the logical part of your brain could stop you. Mustering up your resolve with a nod of your head, you made the short trek up his driveway to the front door, then promptly turned right around. What the fuck were you thinking?
As you stepped off the porch, you heard a soft creaking and Steve’s low voice. “Y/N?”
You swore your name had never sounded more beautiful.
You turned back around sheepishly and gasped at the sight before you. Steve stood barefoot in his doorway clad in an old Navy tank and basketball shorts, a thick white bandage on his left shoulder. “You’re hurt,” you pointed out rather brilliantly.
“This is nothing.” He shrugged it off as if a bullet wound was a mere paper cut and you felt your heart twinge, realizing how much pain and brutality he must have seen during his service.
“But you got shot today, Steve,” you said more forcefully. And all I did was yell at you about Danny being hurt.
Taking a swig from the beer in his dominant hand, he nodded with a laugh, “It would appear so.”
Hearing him laugh at your concern, your guard went back up and you turned around quickly, muttering, “This was a mistake.”
“Hey!” He caught up with you in seconds flat, his large hand curling around your arm and turning you back to him. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have laughed. This kind of stuff isn’t normal for you.”
His face softened at the worry in your eyes, breath catching in his throat as you lifted your hand to gently run your thumb over the gauze. “I wish it wasn’t normal for you either. Or Danny,” you added quickly, pulling back your hand as if you’d been burned for the second time today. You suddenly felt lightheaded at the sheer closeness of his body and his intoxicating smell muddling your senses. “I should-” You pointed your thumb over your shoulder. “I’m gonna go.”
“Y/N,” he stopped you again, this time grabbing your hand. The corner of his mouth quirked up in a smile and he inclined his head toward his house. “Wanna come in? We can have a beer, talk at a normal volume for once.”
The intensity of his gaze, those beautiful ocean blue eyes trained on you, stole your breath away. “Yeah,” you nodded. “Yeah, that sounds nice.”
The next morning, Danny stopped by Steve’s house after dropping Grace off at school as he did every day, stooping down on the porch to scoop up the little brown box sitting there. Making his way through the living room to the kitchen, he called out, “Hey babe, brought you a pack…age,” his voice trailing off as he noticed a very familiar figure standing at the stove wearing a blue Navy shirt emblazoned across the shoulder blades with McGarrett- and little else.
“You brought me something?” Steve moved forward to retrieve the box, squinting at the scrawled handwriting across the top.
“No, it’s from the UPS fairy. What is this?” Danny asked, accusatory finger darting back and forth between the two of you.
“Took your daughter's advice,” you shrugged simply, smiling to yourself and turning back to salt your scrambled eggs. “She’s a smart girl- hey!” You smacked Steve’s hand away with the spatula after he snuck a morsel of your yet unfinished eggs.
“What’s the matter with you?” he asked indignantly, face drawing into a familiar frown. “You spend the night here one time and suddenly you’re the boss of my kitchen, huh?”
“You can’t wait two more minutes? You’ve got the self control of a seven year old child!”
“I just wanted a taste. Wanted to see if it’s worth keeping you around,” he smirked, and your eyebrows shot up.
“Oh ho ho,” you chuckled, narrowing your eyes at him. “You want a taste? I’ll give you a taste, McGarrett, you insufferable-”
Danny reached behind him to pull the front door closed with a sigh. Some things never changed.

h50 straight dude bro writers: lol let’s make these dudes clash. like they’re both capable but in VASTLY different ways that’ll be entertaining.
Narrator: It would be entertaining, but hardly what they dared to imagine at all. For they did not foresee how their decision to make Daniel “Danno” Williams a walking war zone was THE perfect chance encounter for the hardened, decorated, Navy SEAL that is Steven Jack McGarrett. The island that Steven is forced to return to is known as ‘Paradise’, but to him it only holds distant memories to a version of himself that felt has died eons ago. Despite being born and somewhat raised on the islands, they didn’t feel like home. With all he’s been through and then trained for, peace and paradise wasn’t fit for him. And even if much of him has died or been killed...there is still part of him that hopes. That dreams. That yearns.
Enter Danny Williams. His Danno. Raging, unapologetic, sincere, real, genuine, unafraid....and different to the island. Despite he himself being known and remembered...he’s different too. They’re different together. With Danny’s rage and hatred being a warzone Steve’s comfortable with because that’s been home longer than the islands.
When you think of finding your soul mate, many picture a Hallmark like moment. Sweet, commercial valentine definition of love, something that can be plastered on the front of a romance novel.
But that wasn’t the case for these two. Did they clash? Or was it an impact a long time coming from the universe moving specific pieces at certain times to make this happen? Was it that destined? Or were they an apology from the universe and grand scheme of things for all that they had to trudge through to make the world a better place, a gift from the heavens...maybe not exactly what they thought they wanted, but precisely that the other needed?
Helping Danny through the war that raged inside of him with all the change he had to adapt to as a soldier was exactly what Steve’s good at. Helping Steve keep grounded and feel like just a regular human and like he belonged among men and not just on top of a lonely pedestal, whose worries, concerns, thoughts and feelings..were valid(if not sometimes a little eccentric).
Their true selves were always hidden to some extent. They thought who they really were, were too much for anyone to handle. They wanted to be more than the shadow cast by a family they felt rejected by but couldn’t seem ungrateful for.
They have vastly different life experiences. They’re both recognized in their work and high ranked.
To each other, they are simply and unapologetically, Steve and Danny.

I don't know how to feel about this episode s09e10.
I know Scott had a contract with fewer episodes than the other cast members, but why did tptb always use the episodes without Danny to put Steve through traumatic events.
PL really hated the fans. He didn't want to give any fuel to McDanno.
Adam had the right idea about calling Danny, despite him being on college tour with Grace. She would want Danno to help her uncle Steve.
Steve needs to stop putting everyone above himself. He has the right to ask for help. Sometimes, he's selfish and selfless at the same time.
I''m sad for Steve. He lost his only stable parental figure. Despite his flaws, Joe never made me doubt his love for Steve.

Without further ado…. Graphic by @radio-chatter

Title: Mana’olana, chapter 2
Fandom: Hawaii 5-0
Pairing: endgame McDanno, other canon relationship up to season 5 finale
Other tags/warnings: first draft. All the Danny angst. Not Rachel friendly because i think her reasons for not allowing Danny to have partial custody were mean and dumb. Steve POV this part.
Tumblr media
Danny not answering his phone always made Steve’s brain start making lists of worst case secenarios and counterttacks that started with Wo Fat kidnapping and torturing Danny and ended with Danny being in a car wreck and in the hostpial in a coma.  Tracking a cop turned killer just made him more anxious but he couldn’t show it.
Chin didn’t give him any grief when he asked him to ping Danny’s cell phone and it showed that Danny was at his thinking spot and not moving.
The only reason he obeyed most traffic laws is that Pelham didn’t have a good reason to be going after Danny. So he only sped a bit and there might have been a few pinkish-red lights that he blew through on his way to the lookout.
Danny had been going to talk to Rachel.  What had she had to say that was making Danny go off grid and ignore his phone?  He’d thought things were better—or at least the seemed to be lately now that Danny had Ambe-Melissa.
It was Melissa.  He needed to remember to call her that.
Worry nagged at him as he followed the highway.  The sight of the camaro pulled over in the lookout had him exhaling in relief as he pulled in behind to park.   Peaking in the window, Danny wasn’t in the car so he looked around and saw him at the end of the knee high wall staring out towards downtown.
Joining Danny, he was blown away by what he learned.
Charlie was Danny’s and he was sick. Something serious—cancer from what Danny was saying which seemed wildly unfair.
Steve had never really liked Rachel.  She had a tendency to completely twist Danny up in knots when he was trying to do the right thing and then dole out little rewards to keep him hooked. Want to spend some time with Grace? Okay,  but only on Rachel’s terms and if she was bored or didn’t like Danny’s reaction then she would yank Grace away saying it was best for Grace.
That was how she seemed to operate and Steve couldn’t help but disagree vehemently with Rachel’s opinion of Danny.  He would have killed as a kid to have a Dad like Danny and after being sent away with his mother’s supposed death… Danny would have never done something like that.
Grace and Charlie were lucky that Danny was their dad.
Rachel’s reasons were just excuses in Steve’s book otherwise where would you draw the line over who could be a father? That meant most of the military was out.  First responder—out.  Rachel’s logic was flawed and a flimsy excuse to justify her supposed fears.
In his darker thoughs Steve had some opinions on how real Rachel’s fears were but he never would tell Danny them.
He was working on being okay with Am-Melissa. Her name was Melissa.
Steve might have trust issues and her not being upfront about her ex and getting Danny stabbed was a sticking point but he was working on it because Danny liked her.
When Danny broke down in cried in his arms, Steve wanted to curl himself around Danny like armor. There was nothing he could do to make this better until Danny knew what he wanted.
“Shhh… I’ve got you,” he said softly, letting Danny cry himself out. “I’ve got you Danno.”

Fanfic ask game (shh its only 2 days late🙈) I'm doing several feel free to ignore the ones you don't like!
😍
🤡
💥
[ the brain my phone is old and doesnt have that emoji..]
fanfic emoji asks!
thank you for answering! this turned out to be a long one ahah, so i'm putting my answers below the cut so i won't clog up folks' dashes!
🤡 what's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh? shit that's actually a very good question, and i don't think anything's like outright made me laugh, but there's been a couple of exchanges that have put a smile on my face, the first being this;
Grace groaned. “We’re in Hawaii , Danno. Have you even seen any houses around here that come closer to that dream than this? Steve, we can turn Danno’s white-picket-fence dream into a nice, beach-front dream instead, right?”
“That would have to be Danno’s decision when it comes down to it, but,” Steve shrugged innocently, noticing how Danny’s eyes narrowed as he glanced between him and Grace. “Who could ever complain about a nice beach-front dream?”
the second being a scene between steve and mary in an ongoing wip of mine, where she interrogates him about what's gone on his life since she saw him last (and why he suddenly shows up at her door, without calling first)
(for the next question i couldn't find the 😍 emoji on the list, but i'm taking a wild guess at which it may have been eheh – but let me know if there's anything else you want me to answer!)
🥺 is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels? steve and danny's kids. specifically steve and charlie, always.
exhibit a (from a wip that's coming soon): Danny spent the first two hours on the flight asleep, stuck in the aisle-seat, but he didn’t mind. Not when he had Steve on his left, and Charlie by the window. When he’d fallen asleep, they were talking about planes, and Steve was answering every question Charlie had as best he could, from the more general things about planes, to more technical things that was specific to the exact airliner they were on (which Danny came to learn was a Boeing 737-900, which had been introduced in 1997). When he woke, they were hunched together, Steve sleeping, an arm around Charlie, who was watching a cartoon on a device Danny didn’t recognise right away – because it was Steve’s phone.
🧠 pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them. i'll give you my favourite headcanon for steve, and my favourite headcanon for danny – and if you want anything for anyone else, let me know!
steve: i'm a firm believer that steve has a bone frog tattoo in memory of freddie. it's located on his thigh, a well measured distance above his knee; that way he can always keep it 'hidden' underneath his shorts, etc., and there's only a very few people who knows about it (the tattooartist, cath, danny, nurses and doctors). i believe he planned it from the day he returned to hawaii after the op, but he didn't actually get it done until after he and cath had gone to make sure freddie made it home.
danny: the tim bradford incident. i mean, come on. danny as a beat cop in new jersey, looking all dapper in his uniform. one night he's out patrolling, when he gets dispatched to a party. it's a neighbour calling it in, saying it's disturbing their nightly peace. danny shows up, knocks on the door, and is immediately pulled inside to a wild cheering. cut to a few minutes later when he emerges, uniform torn, and a tipsy party-goer following behind apologising that they thought he was a stripper. because again, danny in his uniform? i could see that happening.
💥 how do you feel about criticism? i'm open for criticism! i think that, as long as the criticism is delivered in a respectful tone, there's no issue. there have been instances where i've received unpleasant direct messages, that can't accept. but personally, i feel like criticism is something that can help me grow, whether it be through writing or photography, or elsewhere in life. so yeah, i have no issue with receiving criticism if the criticism is given in a respectful way!

McDanno in front of suspect's salad - every damn time:
• they have that Big Talk with a suspect but after every few sentences they feel a need to look at each other intensely
• a suspect sits in front of them and suddenly they feel a need to touch each other or they pretend they're arguing (cause it's sexy + it's a good excuse for some extra touching)
• they ask suspect about important things but after hearing the answer they suddenly have their goofy time together, they make jokes or just generally have fun, like "Hey, babe, do you remember how I threw that guy into a cage with sharks?"/"Oh yeah, hahahah"
• a suspect talks to them and they can hear/are focused but they're also so busy flirting with each other and/or are very very sweet to each other (say compliments f.e.) and all around is suddenly so sweet
• a suspect is still there (handcuffed or not yet) but these two dorks are now focused on their private life, like "Hey, how's Gracie?"/"Still sad that I couldn't watch that Barbie cartoon with her but I'm gonna make her the best pancakes ever so...". Or: "Ugh, my stomach!"/"Ha! I told you: don't eat this shit! But don't worry, babe. This time I WILL drive us to home and um, I'll give you a hot massage. I mean... I'll give your belly a hot massage, I, um, I will use hot stones!"
They usually talk about their Ohana and feelings (oh the episode where Steve comes back to Hawaii with Wo-Fat and Danny is like "Cargo pants! I knew it!" and "Steve. Did you miss me, babe? Ha?! Cause I missed you! Come on, hug me!" and Wo-Fat is like "WTF is happening here"). But it can be literally about everything: tickets for the game, medical appointment, shopping, weather...
• there's also this McDanno pose:
Tumblr media
aka "We are Boyfriends, you know" ("Btw don't mess with us!")
I can't with our boys but especially with their suspects having the most confusing time of their life 😂 All these guys at first are like "Oh shit, cops!" and they expect some talking, all that serious police jazz, maybe some threatening but soon they all see and hear McDanno being McDanno and they're like "WTF? Are these cops serious? Is this some hidden camera show or what? Do they know they're at work and they should be professional? Do they remember about their suspect?!".
Suspect: Ahem. I'm still here, you know.
McDanno: *being McDanno*
Suspect: Hello? Officers? *Oh no, I'm like the air now, they don't see me* *Oh, fuck, they're doing this again! Come on men, it's too intimate, I don't feel comfortable you know. You need a room and I shouldn't be in that room with you, you get it?*
McDanno: *being McDanno*
Suspect: Excuse me! You should arrest me and take to your car or something like that, right? Right?! *oh mommy, I don't wanna stand here with them, invisible, forever!*
McDanno: *being McDanno*
Suspect: SOMEBODY TAKE ME TO THE JAIL! Pleeeease! *sob* HELP! HELP!
Oh and the episode where Steve and Danny played basketball with prisoners and prisoners were like "Yo, you're fucking married!"? Sure, they had eyes, they noticed it all. But I bet that they knew. They knew it before seeing our boys. All prisoners know - from other prisoners (guys booked by Danno and Steve). You go to jail = you hear about McDanno, they're legendary.
New prisoner: Hi everybody! I'm here cause I'm a serial killer. You can call me like you want but I prefer...
Other prisoners: Who caught you?
New prisoner: Um, cops.
Other prisoners: But who exactly?
New prisoner: Sorry, I don't remember their names. I only remember my sense of awkwardness... and that they called each other "babe". Huh, Small Romeo and Tall Romeo? Yeah, I know, shitty description is shitty and...
Other prisoners: *whispering and cursing* *but also shipping secretly* MCDANNO!!!
New prisoner: So... They do this in front of every...
Other prisoners: ALWAYS!

It was a cruel world that put children through so much pain. Danny would never forgive the gods for that. But he did know he would do anything for Annabeth. Someone had to. "You deserve to live a life without that stress. You deserve the best life, kiddo, that's all I want for you. You know that, right? All your family deserve that." They could argue forever about stubbornness, since neither was inclined to ever give in, so Danny just reached across the table to squeeze her hand. "You kids are the only - well, you kids, Steve, and innocent people are the only people I'll put myself in danger for. And you kids and Steve are the only ones I'd do something real stupid over. And I really hope it doesn't get to that point. But if you're getting stabbed, I gotta know about it." He'd have to ask around, get some more information. Seeing her tear up, Danny had to rub at his face. "Oh god, you're gonna make me cry. Look, I'm retired, you've got nothing to worry about. No one has shot me in a while, and I'm really trying to keep it that way. As I said, you kids, Steve, you're my priority. So you don't need to worry about me, if all of you are safe, then I will be too."

Having grown up with Chiron as her closest father figure in her real world, it had been an adjustment to have not one, but two in this place between Danno and Dugan, so whilst she was eternally grateful for these men in her life, she also couldn’t help but worry knowing that they would want to protect her from anything and the thought of losing them, broke her heart. “Of course I know that, and while my family does deserve that, it also unfortunately, doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen. With all of our interaction with the gods and the amount of quests, it’s no wonder why greek demigods have a higher chance at dying young over the Roman ones.” She muses softly and returns the squeeze with a small smile and sniffle. “I understand that, but I still don’t want you going out there and putting yourself in danger. Hey, you know about it now..it’s just a little later than expected.” Annabeth says with a sheepish smile as she ducks her head to blink away her tears. “No, if you cry, I will cry more and then we’re both just going to be a complete mess. I will always worry about you, Danno, especially with that logic because I am never safe.” She says with a small bit of laughter escaping.

It was very heart warming, and it tugged on some heart strings he didn't think would be touched. Their family dynamic reminded him a lot of what he thought his used to be like when he was an only child...but Mrs. Thomas seemed like the more Danno-level parent than his mother could ever hope to be.
Shaking his head out of those thoughts, he put on a smile as he turned to Commander Thomas, "We're happy to help anyone, but especially any and every Mini SEAL."
"Even if she hadn't stumbled on us and calling us out on our out door manners, I begrudgingly admit that I believe she would have been fine. She's brave, cunning, and clever little girl." Danny said.
"How about you? You gonna be okay?" Steve asked light heartedly, not too sure of how much in fighting they may be. "Mrs mentioned you being as much in trouble as Andie..."
Jacob chuckled, nodding. “Ah, she was on her best behavior then. You should see what she’s like when she’s cranky,” he teased, winking. “Andie’s always been the independent type, that’s one reason why we’re teaching her the way we are. Better to prepare her for trouble before she walks headlong into it.”
He glanced over at Andie and Clairissa, though the look on his face was fond rather than worried. “Oh, I deserve whatever hell I’ve got coming for me in the form of hurricane Clarissa. I might end up on a literal leash, and not in the fun way, but given I brought the wrong kid back to the car with me I kinda earned it.”

This was going to be a good Father’s Day. Your daughter, Michelle, wanted to do something special for Danny this year. You were surprised that she wanted to do this.
Father’s Day has been a touchy subject all of Michelle’s life. When you had gotten pregnant, Luke, your boyfriend at the time, didn’t want anything to do with you or her. So, from that point on you were a single mom. You did everything in your power to make sure your baby would have everything she needed. You even went as far as keeping his name off the birth certificate.
There were times that Luke tried to come back into yours and Michelle’s life. You did your best to protect her from all of his shit, but no matter how hard you tried he still found a way to hurt you and her. When Michelle was about two years old, he had mostly stopped trying. It was only when you started dating Danny, that was when he all of a sudden wanted to be in her life.
You had met Danny when you had joined HPD. You had hit it off relatively quick, but it took you a while for you to introduce him to Michelle. You didn’t want to bring another person into her life if they were just going to end up leaving her. Not that you thought he would do that to her, you just wanted to protect your little girl.
After a few years of dating, Danny proposed to you. On your wedding day he made a promise to Michelle. He promised that no matter what he would protect her, take care of her and love her unconditionally. He also gave her a heart necklace; on the back it says “Danno loves you”.
Now here we are five years later, Michelle had a carefully wrapped box on her lap. You could tell that she was nervous. She kept rubbing her hand together and her leg was bouncing out of control.
“Baby, calm down.” You reached over placing a hand over hers. “Everything is going to be fine.”
“What if he doesn’t want to do it mom? What if he rejects me?”
“He’s not going to do that. He loves you, more than you could possibly understand.”
“Mom, you don’t know that. He already has Grace; he doesn’t need me. The only reason he tolerates me is because of you.” She put her head down and this just broke your heart.
“I want you to listen to me very closely. Danny Loves you, and its not just because of me. He loves you because of you. Sweetheart, there is nothing that he wouldn’t do for you. Just because he has Grace doesn’t mean he doesn’t want or need you in his life.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“I see it every day.” You smiled at her and gave her hand a light squeeze. “Just in the way he talks to you, the way he tells everyone about how proud of you he is. The nights that I’m gone, and you have a nightmare, I know he makes sure that you feel safe, and he stays with you no matter how long it takes. There are even things that you don’t see that he does for you.”
You could see a small smile on her face. She has been through so much in her short fifteen years of life. Even though she has known Danny for more than half of her life, she was still living with the thought of one day being rejected by him, all because of that asshole of an Ex of yours.
You know that it would never happen. The fact is that Danny was feeling the same way. He was afraid that she would end up rejecting him because he wasn’t her biological dad. He knows what Luke did, and he hates him for hurting her, even if she wanted nothing to do with him, he was still her father. There are days when you have to reassure him that she loves him. You hated that two of the most important people in your life felt like the other didn’t love them.
“I’m going to go get him, okay?” She just nodded.
You got up and walked to your shared home office. You looked through the window to see that he was on the phone. You lightly knocked on the door causing him to look over to you. He waved you in, he was just finishing up a call.
“Absolutely not! She is my daughter.” You could see he was frustrated. Just by the look on his face you could tell who he was talking too. “It’s Father’s Day for fucks sake! I am going to be picking her up in a little bit. I am her father, Rachel! She is going to be spending it with ME!”
When the two of you got married, Rachel was not happy. She felt like Danny was going to replace Grace with Michelle. Even though it was the furthest thing from the truth. When you tried to talk to Rachel about all of this before you married Danny, she went ballistic and threatened to take Grace from him. That broke you, you couldn’t be the reason that Grace was taken from Danny. You even tried to call off the wedding. Danny refused; he wasn’t going to lose either of you. He ended up calling her out on all of her bullshit. He even got a better lawyer to make sure that she couldn’t take Grace from him.
“Goodbye Rachel.” He hung up and threw the phone on the desk. “What a bitch. Can you believe that she is trying to keep Grace? Today of all days, she is trying to keep my daughter. She wants her to spend the day with Stan.”
“Actually, I can believe it.” You walked up behind him and started rubbing his shoulders. You could feel him starting to relax under your touch.
“I should go now before she sends Stan to take Grace out.”
“Hunny, Michelle wants to talk to you.”
“What’s wrong?” He stood up quickly and turned to you, with a concerned look on his face.
“Nothing, she just wants to talk to you.” Once again you could see him relax.
“Okay, I will go get Grace after I talk to her.”
The two of you walked out to the living room where Michelle was waiting. Danny went and sat down next to her. You stayed back in the doorway to give them some space. This was her surprise to him, and you wanted to let her have this moment with him.
“Hey kiddo, your mom said you wanted to talk.” She looked over to you, and you just gave her a reassuring nod.
“Yeah. Okay… How do I start this?” You could see her nerves were starting to get to her again. Danny saw it too and quickly acted.
“Take your time. I’m not going anywhere.” He put his hand on top of hers and gave her a reassuring smile. She took a deep breath before starting.
“Okay. So, I have known you for most of my life. You allowed me to be apart of your life and I will be forever grateful for that. You are the closest thing I have to a dad.” She reached for the package that was on her lap. Picking it up and handing it to him. “I was hoping that we could maybe make it official.”
Danny accepted the box from her. He had a surprised look on his face. Looking down, he opened the box to see a packet. It was a “Application for Stepparent Adoption”, you had filled everything out all that was left was for him to sign. There was also a document for a “Name Change”, this was filled out as well. She wanted to change her name from Michelle Rose Y/Ln to Michelle Rose Y/Ln-Williams.
“I know that you aren’t my biological father, but I consider you, my dad. Luke is just the sperm donor that created me with mom. Any idiot can be a “father”, but it takes a real man to be a dad. Especially when it isn’t his child.”
Danny was looking down at the packets in front of him, just reading through everything. As he was going through it tears started to well up in his eyes. You had talked to him about doing this just after you guys had gotten married, but he wanted to wait and let Michelle get more acquainted with him. In this moment he was so glad that he waited. It meant more to him that this came from her than you and him deciding to do it.
“You don’t have to do this Danny. It’s okay, I know that you have Grace…”
You could see that she was retreating into herself. Just as you started moving towards her Danny looked up to her. He placed the box and the papers on the coffee table before pulling Michelle into his arms. He couldn’t control his tears at this point, and neither could Michelle.
“Sweetheart, I would love nothing more than for you to be officially mine.” He pulled back to look at her face. “I have considered you my daughter for a long time now. Hell, Grace already calls you her sister.”
“You really want to do this?”
“Yes!” He moved his hands to her face wiping away the tears with his thumbs. “This is the best Father’s Day present I could ever get. Thank you.”
He pulled her into another hug and placed a kiss in the top of her head. He let go and started searching all of his pockets, when he didn’t find what he was looking for he got up and started checking drawers. Michelle just looked at him like he was crazy. You on the other hand knew what he was looking for. You walked quickly back to the office and grabbed it off the desk and came back.
“Why can I never find a damn…”
“Babe.” You cut him off, causing him to turn and look at you. You had held out the pen for him.
“Thanks.” He walked over to you grabbing it from you and rushing back to the couch. “Let’s make it official.”
He had the biggest grin on his face. You quickly took out your phone and took a photo of the two of them. Michelle was showing Danny where he was supposed to sign, he had an arm hanging over her shoulders holding her close to him. Once he was done, he stood up and turned to her.
“Come on. Let’s go get Grace and tell her the good news and then we can all spend the day together. Just me and my girls.”
“What about mom?”
“Don’t worry about me. Go have a fun day with your dad and sister.” Danny walked over to you.
“Are you sure?” He placed his hands on your shoulders and was looking into your eyes.
“Yes, go have a great day with your daughters.”
“That sounds amazing.” He gave you a long kiss. “I will definitely do that, but you need to meet up with us for dinner later.”
“Sounds like a date.”
You smiled at him and gave him another kiss. Michelle came over and you pulled her into a hug before sending them out the door.
