親パレスチナ投稿のエル・ガジ、マインツと契約解除「罪なき弱者たちの地獄に比べたら…」

マインツは3日、オランダ人FWアンワル・エル・ガジとの契約解除をクラブ公式サイトで発表した。

　現在28歳のエル・ガジはアヤックスやリール、アストン・ヴィラ、PSVなどでのプレーを経て、今夏にフリーでマインツに加入。ここまでブンデスリーガでは3試合に出場し、1アシストを記録していた。

　そんなエル・ガジは先月、自身のインスタグラムのストーリーズでイスラエルとガザの衝突に言及。「片方が水や食料、電力などを奪えばそれは戦争ではない」とパレスチナ寄りの意見を投稿していた。マインツはエル・ガジの投稿が「クラブの価値観と一致しない」として、先月17日より同選手をトレーニングおよび公式戦のメンバーから除外していた。

　両者は度重なる話し合いを通じて和解に至ったとして、マインツは10月30日にエル・ガジの出場停止処分を撤回していた。しかし、すぐに同選手は自身の公式SNSを更新し、「僕は自分の発言を全く後悔していない。ガザで起こっている殺害を終わらせる必要がある」と、主張を曲げることはなかった。

　結局、マインツとの契約解除に至ったエル・ガジは、再び自身の公式SNSを更新。「正しいことのために立ち向かう。それが例え孤立を意味するとしても。僕が生計を失ったことなど、ガザの罪なき弱者たちが味わう地獄に比べたら、どうでも良いことだ。#stopthekilling」と投稿。改めて、自身の立場を明確にした。

　マインツは1905年にユダヤ人のオイゲン・サロモン氏らによって創設されたが、1933年にナチス政権による圧力を受けてサロモン氏ら数人のユダヤ人幹部がクラブから追放された。その後ドイツを去ったサロモン氏は、1942年にアウシュヴィッツ収容所でホロコーストの犠牲となった。2010年にマインツのファン・サポーターによる運動でスタジアムへ続く道路の名称が『オイゲン・サロモン・シュトラーセ』と名付けられるなど、同氏のレガシーは今もクラブに残っている。

This photo from our friends at @nakaweproject shows a recreational fisherman posing happily with what looks to be a big eye thresher shark. All three living species of thresher sharks, including the big eye, are listed as endangered to extinction on the IUCN Redlist. This endangered species should NOT be killed like this as our marine ecosystem depends on these predators swimming freely about in our oceans. Maybe this fisherman doesn't understand the role he is playing in the destruction of this species - and therefore, the oceans…and maybe he doesn't understand that his pose sends a message of arrogance at conquering another species. We humans are not above any other species - especially one that is vulnerable to extinction and continuing to rapidly decline and we must learn to live with these species, not to destroy them.
