Stylus and pad for laptop

Stylus and pad for laptop download#
Although some may argue that physically writing down notes will help with memorisation, it is tedious and much slower than using technology.
Stylus and pad for laptop download#
Schools send out lecture notes through online portals, where students will either print out and physically take down notes with a pen, or download the document and type out notes on powerpoint slides or word documents. Having a stylus for work purposes will also seem more professional, such as getting a client’s e-signature.Īs a student, education has become highly digitised. Designers and artists will feel like they are holding a real brush of a pen when working with a stylus. For gamers, using a stylus will let you have more control and a better overview of the game. If you are in a cold country, you will still be able to use your devices with a stylus without taking off your gloves. Especially those with larger fingers or operating smaller devices such as a smart watch or smartphone. Using a stylus is much cleaner, leaving your screen clear and smudge free.Ī stylus will allow you to have control and precision over your touchscreen devices. When we use our fingers to navigate touchscreen devices, the screens will be left with oily stains and smudges from the natural oils produced by our fingertips. If you fall into one of those categories, this article could be advantageous to you. Students, educators, artists, designers, people that work with mainly online documents and even gamers, the list goes on. They are easy to handle like a regular ball point pen with a flexible and tiny tip, smaller than the surface area of your finger, vastly improving accuracy.Īnyone can use a stylus to increase the usability of their various touchscreen devices, however these few people in particular would benefit the most from adding a stylus to their lives. The stylus pen is designed to simplify operating your touchscreen devices.

dip pen ink comm batch 4 complete! for Ezechiel, @ohwwhuv, and Leo :]
#bakuspecial#commission art#the grayscale for these were done on a train with my laptop track pad fksdjhf it was! manageable! but not desirable condition#that was before I got my new current tablet too... thank you my old huion. you served me well. Im so sorry I chipped ur paint to shit#ngl the texture on the new one's better off the bat. the grip's better and it has good kinetic feedback#too bad abt the touch buttons tho... I was confident I could make use of them but alas#things need actual feelable buttons again please I can Not tell where anything is when Im drawing and cant look at the tablet#my eyes are on the screen!! Im bad at gauging distance!!! please give me buttons I can find in the dark. please#even the old huion which has actual buttons I still couldnt use them. bc theyre not raised#theyre flat to the tablet's surface. you know what I shouldve tacked raised stickers on them I was stupid there#well! the more u learn. the more u learn#I'm happy with the current tablet tho!! buttons stuff aside it's nice to draw on. and thats what important. wrists dont hurt no more#almost said ''I miss the wacom eraser end" I don't. not really. every time I used that thang I was like wow you are so imprecise and blunt#litcherally why would you want basically a mappable stylus end but it's 50 times the size of a normal nib and you cant see where ur drawing#especially on a screen tablet. the dynamic there makes absolutely no sense#I can really do the same thing now by mapping one of the stylus buttons to swap foreground color to transparency#anyways. this has been my testimonies on tablets. in the tags of a dip pen ink post lmao#well! this is a late post I shouldve posted this before art fight. thank u again to that anon who reminded me#have a good day lads! we can answer emails together. hands in professional hands

so i finally got a drawing pad and stylus for my laptop, and downloaded krita, and obviously since i only have a few months prior experience with any kind of digital art, and said experience was like 3 years ago, i was just messing around, trying to figure out the brushes and find the undo button and stuff...
and somehow while i was messing around i started drawing a Leo, because i've been drawing him a lot lately and he's just fun to draw, and then i turned it into Sprout from 2 Arms Left, by @intotheelliwoods!!!
and yes, i'm aware i forgot his plastron cracks. this is meant to be low effort anyway.

Some more doodles I’ve done of Art, this time on pencil and paper. I have yet to get used to digital art, but it could be because I’m using a laptop mouse pad instead of a stylus pen and tablet. Have a happy weekend everyone!

Attempt #2 of digital art. I am learning a good deal each time, and learning where my gaps are. It feels very different from drawing with pencil. Right now it is more work than relaxation, but I like how focused I have to get. Using pencil is a lot more pouring out feelings. I won't be abandoning my sketchbooks or pencils any time soon. I am going to learn about how to stablize my lines, work more on separating my layers, and long term maybe I will tackle shading. Thank goodness my art style is so simple and silly. This is a lot of work haha!
Thank you all for your kind comments, advice, and encouragement! @zaya-mo @chrissywakingup @the-sith-in-the-sky-with-diamond @aintinacage @ladykatakuri @marierg @thecoffeelorian
@autistic-artistech @freesia-writes - I haven't been using my drawing pad. My laptop died and I ended up getting one with a touch screen. So I am using a stylus on my laptop in tablet mode.

Symphony's Journey - Step Four, 8 Months
===CW===
Chronic physical pain
Emotional breakdowns
Time blindness
Suicide briefly mentioned (neither of them are suicidal)
In a dark, dusty room, where discarded pizza boxes and dirty clothes are carelessly scattered, Symphony lays in her dirty bed sheets that are barely covering the mattress anymore. She wears unchanged underwear alone over her fur pelt. She scratches an itch on her stunted maw with a tiny claw and readjusts to better support her tail nub. The feeling of her paw pads against the mattress and messy bed sheets help ground her while pain swims through her body. Her chest rises less than usual and sudden bursts of sharp pain cause winces. This is all nothing new to her. Her favorite comfort streamer's laughs travel out from her laptop speakers and she feels a mix of envy and appreciation. She can't remember if this is the third stream of theirs that she's watched today, or the tenth. She disabled the clock on her laptop a long time ago. Her stomach and bladder dictate time, sections separated in terms of how long ago she managed to force herself from her bed.
A muffled knock breaks through the seemingly endless cycle of binge watching, though even that isn't enough to pry her from her tomb. The knock comes back louder, more frantic. Soon afterwards it's joined by the jingle of keys. Symphony almost doesn't recognize the sound of her front door opening, but could never forget those footsteps. Light spills in as her bedroom door flies open, nearly slammed against the wall by a very worried tigerfolk. Their face says it all, that look of horror seems so overdramatic to her. She had been living in this filth for… a while, the thick coating of dust visible from the other side of the room was no surprise to her; the dust bunnies kept her company. Their eyes witness the rest of the container once considered a bedroom. They nearly trip over themself as they come to a sudden stop after nearly rushing towards her. With shortening breaths, Stylus slowly steps towards her bed, their arms ready to hug should one be requested; or severely needed. Stylus' eyes lock onto hers yet she can't even look in their direction.
If she could see their expression, she imagined it would be no different to if they had found a struggling, baby bird fallen out of its nest. Her stomach became even more upset. Clearly using all of their self-control, Stylus asks, "What happened!?" Symphony can't bring herself to face them, "…Nothing" she manages to force out. Out of the corner of her eyes she can see the erratic movement of their tail. "It's not nothing!" Stylus insists. They lean over the bed and place a handpaw on her forehead, but it was nothing like her dreams. Instead of a longing stare deep into her eyes with a content smile, it was an agape maw and borderline panicked eyes darting across her unwashed, aching body. The warm, gentle touch of their handpaw pulled her out of the sludge of blended time, and she was back in her apartment in regular time; if only for a while.
Stylus composes themself enough to explain, "I got worried because you stopped updating your fanfictions. I thought something had made you busy, o-or you had some sort of stomach bug but-…" Stylus' watery eyes caught the little light that found this place, "…I had no idea it had gotten this terrible." "Just your standard issue transspecies suffering, usual around this time of the treatment" is what she would have quipped had pain not devoured her ability to speak long sentences. Instead, she lays there like a broken fossil for them to inspect in all of its tragedy. Stylus carefully peels back the bed sheet she had repurposed as a blanket, causing her to wince as it brushes up against several clumps of matted fur. Stylus almost drops the bed sheet in shock before being reassured by her pained smile. That look of concern, she hates how much of a burden she is. They continue dragging it until it falls limp and pathetic to the floor, revealing the consequences of neglect. Clumps like the heads of mushrooms cling all over her. Symphony couldn't stand to see their reaction,
"…just go" "What, no!?" they exclaim, "Your fur is matting all over, I can't leave you like this. When was the last time you bathed?" Symphony steals a glance at them, and feels a slash across her heart. "…don't remember" slips through her sore lips. Despite them not being the one in excruciating pain, they looked to be on the verge of wasted tears. She almost suspected them to be crocodile tears, how could anyone earnestly care so deeply about her? Stylus pulls from their bag a food shaker and a soft looking comb. "I can't allow this to get any worse. I'm going to pour some cornstarch onto the mats and gently brush them with this until you're not in pain anymore. I need you to trust me and stay calm for however long this takes." That last part was directed more towards themself than her, she could tell. She could think of much worse things than spending hours with them, even if it would be physically uncomfortable at best.
She takes in a calming breath and nods. Stylus wastes no time starting, shaking cornstarch onto one of the bigger mats. Their comforting touch she feels as they press down the mat with their free hand and begin combing. Each time they begin at the tips of the fur and worked their way down, keeping an attentive ear cocked towards her at all times. Whenever she winced, Stylus looked to share the same pain. This went on for hours, yet she could still happily spend more time receiving their sole attention. Eventually all of the mats are removed, it was almost a shame to no longer have an excuse for them to brush her fur. While this didn't solve the issue of her screaming joints, she didn't have to worry about her pelt feeling like it was about to rip itself off of her body. She thinks about what it will be like to walk around like this, in this limbo phase, and she's grateful she's misplaced her shoes.
"There, much better" Stylus says, "Right?" She's glad she doesn't have to lie about being okay nor tell them no, either option would likely cause waterfalls to erupt from their eyes. She nods and Stylus draws in a deep breath just to sigh deeper than she's ever seen them sigh before. They flop their upper half onto the free space on her mattress and rest their maw on their crossed arms. Their gaze looks a million light years away as they stare at the blinded window. They face her and she sees such profound sadness in their eyes. They're like hooks that embed themselves deep into her heart, capable of ripping it out of her chest if they wanted to. Instead Stylus, despite being an emotional wreck themselves, is gentle with her heart; as they always are. She suffers a cyclone of unidentifiable emotions.
Stylus places a handpaw on her own, spinning the cyclone faster. She hunches and rolls over on her side away from Stylus, tears becoming too overwhelming to hold back anymore. She hears Stylus' quick steps as they try their best not to panic as they make their way over to the side she's now facing. Ugly noises join the dust in the air as snot and warm tears join the food stains on the mattress. Stylus is using all of their self-control to not scoop up the crying mess that was Symphony. Slowly, they bring their handpaw closer to her eyes to wipe her tears, only for Symphony to snatch it out of the air and pull most of their arm into a tight embrace. She settles for this for now as anymore movement would make her roar in agony; though actually roaring was still unfairly impossible. All she wants is to escape into her daydreams, but Stylus' whines and the cries of her aching body are too distracting. She is stuck in the present moment. At least she was no longer sitting on her tail nub. It had gone numb who knows how long ago, she thought the pain would end faster if time blended together. Stylus' shocked expression brakes down into a teary mess.
"It's okay…" is drowned by the pain and her undeveloped maw remains tightly clenched. Conversation was becoming difficult. She uses the warmth and softness of their arm to ground herself. Stylus keeps losing the words in their maw until finally, "Why didn't you reach out to me!?" they sound almost betrayed. She focuses through the pain, taking strategic breaths to make sure she had enough to speak. "I'm not worth it-" "YES YOU ARE!" they fail to hold back, causing Symphony to jump, shooting pain throughout her back. Stylus looks mortified and their streams of tears become thicker. "I- I'm s-so sorry" "It's okay" she croaks out.
"No, it's not, nothing about this is!" they place their other handpaw on her arms. In all of their years together, this is the most pain she's seen them in. Tears weren't a rare sight from them. She's seen tears of joy from the sight of baby ducks; tears of sadness from when their favorite characters get killed off; and tears of rage from when they defended her from her biological family. These tears are new. Her laptop, still with the stream open, was sitting worryingly close to the edge of her mattress. Stylus notices her staring through their tears and places it safely on the floor. She tries to speak a full sentence but something pops at the back of her throat.
"Volume…" she manages to croak out while pointing downwards. Stylus lowers the volume on the stream. She didn't want the only noises filling the room to be of them both in pain. They stayed like this, in an awkward embrace while draining the tears from their eyes, for long enough for the streamer to go on break. With a strained voice Stylus breaks the silence, "I could have been here the whole time, preventing this… why didn't you call for me?" "…didn't want help" she replies. Confusion overtakes their tear soaked face, "Why not?" Symphony looks away from their concerned eyes. "…not worth effort" she says. It looks as if Stylus still has plenty of tears left to give but they hold them back by burying their face into the mattress. They take a deep breath in as they look up to the ceiling.
"Stop saying that…" they demand, "stop saying you're not worth it!" Symphony, even if she could speak, was at a loss for words. It was draining to block out the pain enough for conversation, and she was so tired. For the first time in their friendship they sit in uncomfortable silence. The faint screams and goofy sound effects from whatever game her comfort streamer is playing now provide a distraction from her labored breaths and Stylus' restless tail bumping into things. "…just want sleep…" Symphony pushes out. "I can close the door if-" "…just want forever sleep- not suicidal" she adds in that clarification despite the added stress on her vocal chords. Stylus thinking that she was suicidal would shatter both of their hearts. "…until I wake up… correct body…" Stylus hangs on every word. "…miserable life-" "Don't say that" Stylus interrupts, "stop talking about your life that way." Their brows furrow and the corners of their maw's lips quiver. Symphony was not in the mood for an argument, yet despite that,
"Why not?" she replies. Stylus huffs in annoyance through their nostrils. "Even if your life has been difficult, even though you bare the scars of battles that you didn't deserve to fight in the first place-" their sentence was cut off as they force down the cry building in their throat, "You-… you've still lived a life filled with such vibrant colours. You've accomplished so much and you still have a long journey ahead of you. You have a real family now, one that will shelter you from any storm or blizzard that comes your way. You have-!" Stylus cuts themself off and hesitates to continue. "You have me, don't I-…" they look away from her, overcome with guilt. "Sorry, that's not fair to say" "Say it" Symphony demands, yet they stay silent. Attention stolen by their screaming joints, she lets it go. Stylus looks as if they want to say something but stays frozen for a while. Then finally, "Is it okay to bunt you? I-… I just really need to be close to you…" they say while looking to the floor. Symphony is pleasantly taken off guard.
"Even closer?" she questions, and they nod enthusiastically without hesitation. Symphony's body has finally quieted down enough for some movement. With a weary arm she gently grabs their cheek fur and slowly pulls their face closer until their head is resting on her pillow. Looking deep into their eyes she doesn't see a millimeter of the discomfort she expects their awful posture to be giving them right now. Instead, their eyes are lighting up and settling into a simmer of contentment. With their gazes interlocked and her arms comfortably wrapped around theirs, with Stylus softly stroking her face fur with their free handpaw past the point of when she started making a content rumbling noise in her throat, for just a few moments the pain felt so distant that she nearly forgot about it. They bunt each other and Symphony starts to feel drowsy from the sound of their breathing syncing. "…won't run away… from this life…" she assures, "I promise." A silent tear from Stylus runs down the pillow and lands on her maw before soaking into the foul smelling fabric. Her comfort streamer becomes increasingly more incoherent as she drifts ever closer to slumber, with the last thing she hears before rest being something gently whispered in her ear.

Hi Gomz! Been so inspired by your art, I'm considering picking up digital drawing again haha. What device and app do you use? What would you recommend if I wanna restart drawing? Would be great if you can answer with doodles :D thanks!
Hello Cumi! Thank you very much for this ask, to think I can inspire other people with my doodles means a lot to me <;3 ((def not cryin rn))
In this ask response, I'll include some links that you can check out for the appropriate stuff! I hope you can understand some things by the end of it :D
Disclaimer: im no professional, so most of this is just based on my experience!!
Okie dokie first off:
What device and app do I use?
I draw using a drawing pad, the Deco Mini7 on my laptop, and I use Krita to draw :3
Tumblr media
Krita is free to use! You can download it here, or if you can afford it, clip studio paint is definitely a popular choice out there, some people use adobe too!
I will say it may seem complicated at first BUT it is relatively easy to learn once you get the hang of it, there have a full tutorial on their website with videos included if you wanna know more! digital art apps usually works the same way, once you get the fundamentals you can draw on any app tbh
Or if you do want to start using Krita, then you can send me another ask in the future and I'll share you my tips and tricks (which are honestly pretty scuff HAHA))
Tumblr media
Other recommendation if you want to draw on phone/tablet/ipad!
Tumblr media
2. I know you didnt ask this, but I wanted to share my experience starting out with digital painting/using the drawing pad for the first time
the thing about digital painting is that there's a lot of features here and they serve to make the process easier, but it can be quite overwhelming when you start off! examples are layers
Tumblr media
drawing pad also means getting used to not looking at the pad and the screen at the same time + getting used to the pen, I had a hard time with it but the more I use it, the more i got used to it :D
Tumblr media
funnily enough, I actually gotten this drawing pad bcuz I started using lecture notes online through pdf and such xD
3. What would you recommend if I want to restart drawing?
Not really sure what you mean about restarting, but Im assuming like finding a new artstyle or trying out different art medium is it? (like from traditional pencil doodle to stylus pen) but if you mean literally restarting then uhhhh XD I guess you gotto start drawing then haha?
I think my motto when it comes to drawing is that no matter what it is, just do it
"its gonna look bad" its okay bcuz at least I drew it, yk? xD the thing with art is the more you draw, the more you're familiar with it, the less intimidating it will become(tho it can still be scary, but hey! baby steps right?)
perhaps what I would recommend is testing out all kinds of artstyle, ask yourself:
what am I going to draw? ex: I wanna do self potraits! I wanna do silly doodles of my favourite characters!
what style do I wanna do? ex: Chibi, non-chibi, landscapes
Sometimes, you won't know those answers to those questions until later on, which is exciting dont you think? one day I said "im gonna draw Ghost in full gears" then the next I decided "actually nah screw that im gonna make Ghost cute" -w-
Tumblr media
didchu know my first few digital doodles were done on OneNote? haha yes! and on my lecture notes nonetheless pfttt (this was around october 2022)
Tumblr media
When in doubt, always ALWAYS start small and simple. Draw a circle, draw a blob, anything! Make it manageable :D
You can, of course, challenge yourself and go big! the most important key is you're drawing for yourself :3 and you should do something you're happy with!
well, sometimes there are moments where you wont like what you draw or artblock, when it comes to those time Id recommend taking a break xD
Finding your artstyle is an ever growing journey, I would suggest looking through websites like Artstation or Pinterest and collecting artstyle that you like! then learn from it, replicate it, trace it(AS LONG AS YOU DONT CLAIM IT AS YOUR OWN AND YOU DO IT FOR PRACTICE PURPOSES!!!) and study it :3
like heck I just found a new artstyle yesterday literally HAHA so you know, enjoy the fun!
4. Other helpful links and video for starting out digital painting:
Marc Brunet, has a ton of tutorials that are useful! my fav one being this one about face drawing and cell shading
Tumblr media
Bluebiscuits, very cute artstyle and the videos are always soothing and calming to watch! they did this video about finding your artstyle which I highly recommend! their face drawing tutorial is also really good :3
Tumblr media
I also watch tppo occasionally, his video focuses more on how he study other people's artstyle and then implementing it on his own! If you like art studies you can give it a go, like this one!
Tumblr media
practice, practice and practice! things like art takes a while to master and get happy with :) like i said, keep trying and dont forget, all of this is for fun!
Tumblr media
have a good day! feel free to ask me anytime if you want if you want some clarification <3

Tablet and Studying
Tumblr media
Hi! I'm Adel, a Food Technology student. Today, I'm gonna talk about how getting a tablet affected my grades and changed the way I study (completely).
So, I know that Ipads are kind of overhyped. Like, I've seen youtubers such as studyquill and fayefilms talks about overhyped study trend and Ipad is included in both videos together with things such as fancy stationary.
Coming from a childhood where I watch youtubers using fancy things such as sharpies, mildliners, and tombow brush pen (yes in my country sharpies are sooo expensive, they're very uncommon and for the price of 1 sharpie I can get like 10 regular markers) I used to think that I need those fancy things to recreate what they're making. Until I actually saved money and bought the exact same things, I still can't recreate it lmao. So I know that I don't need fancy things and I can just utilize what I already have.
A little background information, my GPA in 1st semester was hella good, it was 3.97. But then I had to take academic leave during my 2nd and 3rd semester to work full time. Coming back from 1 year of academic leave, I can say I forgot how to study :D My GPA falls to 3.56 real quick. It was drastic and I had a pretty bad mental breakdown, considering I used to have such high GPA.
The next semester, the grades were dropping again as the classes transitioned from hybrid into fully offline class + I am still working full time. I had a rough time trying to balance work and studying. My GPA was 3.33! However at this point I started to get chill about it, but I know I have to go back on track (my target is to maintain my overall GPA to be above 3.5).
During the 1st semester, I was studying at least 3 hours/day and it can go up to 12 hours/day during exam season. I utilized traditional note taking, but I do type down my notes sometimes. But mostly I use pen and paper. However, I can't continue this method of studying on my 4th semester because I am working full time. I have no time to write down my notes with hand, that's why I upgraded my laptop. I started typing all of my notes down. I also bought a pen tablet to handwrite organic chemistry answers (because handwriting on paper and digitalizing it during exam is sooo stressful, might as well get a pen tablet). But then this method isn't that useful since my grades were dropping.
So in the 5th semester I started to type out everything I hear during lecture and stopped using the pen tablet. At this time I stopped bringing pen and paper, I only bring my laptop. I only used the pen tablet once during the final exam and I don't feel the need to use it anymore, so I sold it. However this method also doesn't work for me because during class I would just open a bunch of games and started playing instead of listening to the lecture. So using laptop to study also not really helpful for me. My laptop is big and heavy so my back was hurting as well. At this point I know I won't be able to bring my laptop everyday to campus and I might need to buy a tablet. Not only for health reason, but this time I really need to find new method of studying since other digital methods are not working for me. I feel like tablet would also motivates me (but at this point I'm still not sure with this).
So, for my 20th birthday, I bought myself a Xiaomi Pad 5 with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. I wanted to get an Ipad so that I can use the goodnotes app, but I can't afford it. Learning from my past experience, I know I can still use alternatives to achieve the same thing (study, ofc). So I went for the cheaper version and hands down, this was the best big girl purchase I've ever made to this day. I started exploring different apps for note taking and eventually bought the stylus as well. I used to use Samsung notes on my laptop but I can't seem to install it in my tablet, so I use an app called Flexcil, which I recommend! I started writing down important notes directly on the lecture presentation. I record every lecture and started engaging in class whenever I can. At first, it was really hard because I'm not the type of person that likes "attention" in class and I don't like to raise my hand because people will look at me. I was scared of being judged. But after I started answering and asking questions to the lecturer, it became much easier for me to understand the material.
I mean I do play games sometimes during class and I don't feel like writing. In those days, I only record the lecture and highlight important points. I usually ask my friend for their notes on the day I don't feel like studying in class. I mean, there would always be good and bad days, right?
Fast forward to midterm exam, it became easier to study because all I have to do when reviewing is to read my handwritten notes. If there's anything I don't understand, I just simply replay the lecturer recording. I started asking my friend for tutoring and help. If none of my friend is able to help me, I will seek help from the lecturer. This helped me so much and my grades were going up like crazy. My GPA this semester was 3.92 (!!!).
It's really crazy considering I was going from 3.33 to 3.92, a 0.59 increase! Took me a while to find this method but I am grateful that I am able to make it work. My big girl purchase feels so worth it. Although I believe that this can be achieved by printing out the handouts and jot down notes using a pen, but a tablet definitely helped me so much since adding pictures and definitions is just one google search away.
I definitely did not expect that getting a tablet would change me so much. But yeah, it definitely gives me confidence boost and motivates me to study more. Making this type of digital note helped me focus (because I have to take down notes with stylus instead of typing) and understand the materials, making me able to engage with the lecturer during class. Being active in class helps me retain information better, resulting in better grades.
If you want to step up your studying game, you definitely have to try to engage during class because I really do think this was the biggest turning point in my studying life.
Prepare handouts before class (read if possible).
Take down notes directly during class (important points, don't forget to record the lecture to help during review)
Engage in class activities
Try to answer questions and ask if you don't understand (even if it means your lecturer has to re-explain the whole part, you can ask them outside class hours)
Get what you need to get in order to motivates you to study
Take care of yourself!! (eat good food, good sleep, drink water)
I hope my story can give you my point of view of using a tablet for studying.

New LPs!
Three albums from Acoustic Sounds came in a really nice big box. Lots of padding. A total of 5 discs. Once I had to pony up the $36 bucks for shipping I thought load up the box. A low three figure purchase.
Double 45 180 of Willie Nelson "Stardust".
A single 33.33 180 of Lori Leiberman "truly".
A double 33.33 180 of "Jazz at the pawn shop".
Where to start. Busy playing them all.
Why do 45 rpm albums not label themselves as such. I know now but could they put on a note or something! That was Stardust.
"Truly" is a nice jazz album of some old classics and new stuff. It is a digital recording on LP endorsed by Mr. Fremer and he is right the sound is excellent. Ms Leiberman is the person who wrote a poem that became "Killing me softly" a hit with Roberta Flack. The men who helped turn it into a song, denied her credit. That song is here with several others. We all know the truth. She is a good singer. and song writer. The backing group are top tier session people.
Tumblr media
I need to listen again, but good music. There is some You Tube coverage of the production.
youtube
Next up WN in his 1977 Grammy award winning album "Stardust". American Song book. Recorded in a house in Malibu with a studio truck in the driveway. They set up in the living room with a harmonica player in the bathroom. Great sound. This is the skateboard trick recording two discs, with not a mention anywhere about 45 rpm. That became obvious very soon.
Tumblr media
How can I put this, immediate sound, close, realistic, almost intimate. Clarity to die for. Great recording and apparently all 100% analog. Fremer would be pleased. There is lot on this album, and I am tearing through first impressions here. There was a scare as the last cut of the last side made a horrible sound that could have been the death of a tube. Turned out it was a chunk of debris I missed and the stylus went surfing for a bit. cleaned it off and played it again to be sure it was neither the pressing nor the electronics.
Lastly the famous "Jazz at the Pawnshop". It is all it is reputed to be. I have listened on iTunes and guess what, it is better on vinyl. I dislike falling back on golden-ear-speak, but it is palpable. The audience was miked and is clear and well mixed in. The stage had a ORTF pair in front and the drum had its own pair of mikes. So the combo is well mapped out with the drums sounding bigger than if they had only a pair of mikes for everyone. All this is on line in wiki-thing and such. Yes I am rushing through this as I am excited. New stuff to play with.
Tumblr media
Oh the timbre of the vibes is truly amazing. Oh now that sax. The Cl60 loves wind. Good stuff.
I am sure to come back later to these and may even do more blah blah on them here or maybe just listen and keep the laptop on the shelf.
Taking one step back I know that I spent some money getting good copies of these albums. I want the music done well and as clear as I can get it. That is the audiophile conceit. It is a kind of vanity. I admit and confess that. Part of my enjoyment is technical quality which the music does not need to justify its existence. But hey why not?
We are still using the AT7V cartridge on the Phase linear 8000 TT with ARC SP-14 and ARC Cl60 and my invisible speakers.
